Hamlin, PA - Hamlin Speedway Ready To Rock The Poconos With Season Opener On April 21st
By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

The Hamlin Speedway track staff has been extremely busy getting the speedway prepped and ready for the new 2018 racing season and if the initial sneak preview last week on "Bug Day" was any indication of what is in store for the loyal race fans, "Well then, you ain't seen nothing yet!" The premier racing attraction in the Pocono Mountains hosted a stellar field of driving stars last week to allow the teams to work their magic on the new clay installed over the past month. Promoters Randy and Denise Smith gave all race teams an opportunity to dial in their racing equipment and all drivers were elated with the new surface. The season opener is Saturday, April 21st with all of the speedway's seven divisions taking part in the opening day festivities.

The Smith Family graciously thanks Chad Wheeler Excavating LLC and RLE Enterprises/Johnny Gentile for their generous support with the project.
The 2018 racing season will serve as the thirteenth year in sequence for the Smith Family at the helm of the popular multi-division speedway and all indications for another banner season is highly anticipated with seven divisions included in all of the weekly events. A change from a season ago will find the 270 Sprint Division placing the wings on top as the drivers voted for the change back at the rules meeting in March.

JPA Masonry returns to sponsor the Rookie 600 Sprint division in 2018. With the continued growth of the entry level division, most of the events for the rookies last season constituted two feature events for the division to give all of the competitors equal track time to refine their skills to transition into the premier division in due time.

The continuing sponsorship from Hampton RV and Trailer for the Smith Fabrications/Stage One Modified division has created a new buzz and excitement and has many drivers weighing out their options as to which path to take when they go racing in 2018. The Stage One Modifieds have been on various racing circuits since 2007 and have been a welcome addition to the already great racing found at Hamlin every Saturday nights. The Stage One Modifieds are a small scale model of the Northeastern Modified division and powered by Briggs and Stratton powerplants and fabricated by former Northeastern Modified great "Rapid" Richie Smith. This growing class of race cars will find some new drivers moving into the division and with it adding another dimension to the already great speedway driving roster and the early indication from the racers is finding much interest from those who are seeking a new class to compete with.

With the Smith Family beginning their thirteenth season at Hamlin, the speedway has become the starting point for many drivers who have transitioned with much success into the many divisions of racing offered on the East Coast. Drivers such as Ryan Smith, Anthony Perrego, Tyler Dippel, Billy Van Inwegen, Kyle Rohner, Jesse Leiby, Jordan Thomas, Tyler Johnston, Kyle Lick, Tommy Kunsman, Brett Michalski, Bobby Butler, Jared LaBagh, Daniel Morgiewicz and Brandon McGill are just a few of the names who have moved into other forms of racing and have found success in doing so. The existing stars at the speedway, however, will take a backseat to no one as they offer their own brand of excitement on the racy 1/5th mile Hamlin facility. Promoters Denise and Randy Smith have always welcomed all racers and will leave the welcome mat displayed for all racers who have yet to decide on their speedway of choice for the new season ahead.

The landscape surrounding various raceways in the Northeast has changed drastically in the past few seasons and the successful Hamlin Speedway promotional team has proven time and time again to work hard at presenting some of the best racing available for small car division racing and each show is professionally produced with a great working staff on board to insure the success and the excitement of each passing week.
