Tim Shaffer Scores Eldora Victory

Shaffer becomes 18th different winner of 2017 with WoO; Schatz and Saldana complete podium

ROSSBURG, OH - September 22, 2017 - The 'Steel City Outlaw' Tim Shaffer held off Donny Schatz to win the Night Before the 4-Crown Nationals at Eldora. Shaffer was strong all night going second quick in his Flight in qualifying, winning his heat and scoring the Craftsman Club Dash victory. As laps winded down, Schatz closed significantly in on Shaffer, but couldn't pull ahead. The margin of victory was .227 seconds. Joey Saldana came forward to complete the podium.

Shaffer earned the pole by winning the Craftsman Club Dash, where Shane Stewart moved from fourth to second to earn the other front row starting spot. Shaffer, who has an Eldora win earlier this year with the Arctic Cat All-Star Circuit of Champions, got the early jump in the Feature working the top side of the famous half-mile. Stewart was closing in on Shaffer before shredding a right rear tire on lap 13. It was the second consecutive night, dating back to last weekend at Calistoga, Stewart lost a tire running in second.

Schatz assumed second as Shaffer once again stretched his lead. With ten laps to go, Shaffer had a comfortable lead as he reached traffic. Schatz began working the line a car-length off of the cushion and closing on the leader, noticeably in turns three and four.

With two to go, Schatz looked poised to make his bid for the lead, but Shaffer's momentum on the top side of the Speedway was too much as he became the 18th different winner with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series in 2017.

"That's a great team," Shaffer said in Victory Lane in regards to Donny Schatz / Tony Stewart Racing No.15 group. "We have a great team too, we keep building and getting better. We've got wins all over this year, but to get an Outlaw win at Eldora is really special. This is one tough place," Shaffer said upon exiting his Demyan-Rudzik Racing No.49X.

Schatz credited Shaffer, "Second sucks, we just couldn't find a way around them. They were really good. We'll take it and move on."

Joey Saldana completed the podium in the Indy Race Parts No.71. "We had a really good car. I felt like I could move around in lapped traffic. The track was so fast. We had a lot of fun," the Brownsburg, Indiana native said about his podium finish.

Jason Johnson and David Gravel completed the top five. Brent Marks picked up KSE Hard Charger Honors coming from 22nd to finish eighth. Early race contender Shane Stewart made it back to 13th.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series travels to Western Pennsylvania Saturday evening for the Commonwealth Clash at the Lernerville Speedway in Sarver.

Donny Schatz Scores 18th Win of the Season at Calistoga

KKR Teammates Pittman and Sweet complete podium

CALISTOGA, CA - September 16, 2017 - Donny Schatz passed Brad Sweet on lap 25 to pick up his 18th win of the season Saturday night at Calistoga Speedway. Sweet, who swept Friday's event, held off a charge from Shane Stewart, who succumbed to a flat tire, before giving way to Schatz in heavy lapped traffic. Daryn Pittman surged late for second while Sweet settled for third.

It has been far from easy the last two weeks for the eight-time and defending champion. Schatz was forced to use a provisional both nights at Chico last weekend and had to switch to a backup car last night. It was evident Schatz wanted to wrap up the West Coast swing on a good note.

Schatz assumed second on lap 10 after Shane Stewart was forced pit-side with a flat tire and lurked behind Sweet's Ollie's Bargain Outlet No.49 as he maneuvered through lapped traffic around the half-mile. Sweet hiccupped in traffic on lap 22, allowing the rest of the field to close in. As Schatz began to make the bottom work, Jason Johnson pulled outside of Schatz looking to make a move of his own.

"I knew someone was outside of me. I had to go," Schatz said. Go he did, as Schatz darted to the bottom and slid up on Sweet to take command on lap 25. Sweet tried to return the favor but incidentally let Johnson get by for second.

An open red on lap 27 set up a three-lap dash to the finish. Schatz was strong on the restart as Pittman, who restarted fourth, slid underneath Johnson and Sweet to take second. The maneuvering behind him allowed Schatz to go unchallenged the final three laps and score his 18th victory of the season.

When asked about his troubles last night, Schatz said, "It was just one of those nights. You don't know if it's a nightmare or a freak show." "That's racing, you have to battle through adversity. These guys never stopped working and here we are," he added.

Pittman, who was working out the bugs of a new car, was happy with the progress his Great Clips No.9 made throughout the evening, "We didn't start off where we needed to be. But these guys worked really hard and made some great changes for the Feature. We'll take this and build on it heading back East."

Sweet, who set fast time and won his heat for the second night in a row, said, "I was trying to get runs on the lapped cars and I opened up the door for Donny. Still, it was a great weekend overall."

Johnson settled for fourth with David Gravel completing the top five. Shane Stewart made it back up to tenth from the rear. Austen Wheatley picked up KSE Hard Charger honors.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series now heads East and will compete Friday, September 22 at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio before heading to the Lernerville Speedway Saturday the 23rd for the running of the Commonwealth Clash.

Brad Sweet Sweeps Night 1 at Calistoga 13th-starting Schuchart and red-hot Stewart complete podium

CALISTOGA, CA - September 15, 2017 - California native Brad Sweet swept the program on Night 1 of the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown at Calistoga Speedway. Sweet passed Rico Abreu on lap three and withstood a charge from Abreu in lapped traffic to pick up his fifth win of the Season. Abreu was light at the scales after running out of fuel. 13th starting Logan Schuchart finished second with Shane Stewart completing the podium.

Sweet actually took the lead from Abreu on lap two but a caution flag gave the lead back to the Abreu Vineyards No.24. Sweet dove to the inside of Abreu to officially lead lap three and while he statistically led the rest of the way, it was not easy. Heavy lapped traffic allowed Abreu to pull side by side with Sweet on lap 11. Sweet would clear a lapped car and re-extend his lead. While Abreu stayed within striking distance for much of the race, Sweet was able to capture his fifth win of the season.

"I just tried to get through lapped traffic as good as I could. I knew Rico would be charging," Sweet said upon exiting his Ollie's Bargain Outlet No.49. "We have a lot of podiums, it's nice to be on the top step tonight where this team belongs," he added.

Numerous cautions, including one for fifth place running Kyle Hirst, led to a handful of teams running out of fuel coming to the finish. World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series officials allocated for 60 combined green/yellow flag laps before a fuel stop and that is exactly how many laps the teams ran as they took the checkered. One more caution would have forced a fuel stop. Abreu, who crossed the line second, was one of the teams that was out of fuel and subsequently his No. 24 was light at the scales. David Gravel, who was running in the top five all race, was another competitor to slow on the final lap.

Logan Schuchart charged forward from his 13th starting position to finish second officially, "This Shark Racing team did a great job giving me a fast car. It was a lot of fun," Schuchart, who also came forward four positions in his heat race, said.

Gold Cup Champion Shane Stewart finished on the podium once again and was quick to thank his Larson/Marks team for their continued hard work.

Donny Schatz battled issues all night. He did not run hot laps, time trials and limped through his heat race before switching to a backup car for the Last Chance Showdown, where he came from ninth to fourth. Schatz muscled his way through the field in the early stages, cracking the top ten (from 22nd) in under five laps. The eight-time Series champion crossed the line fourth. Daryn Pittman completed the all World of Outlaws top five.

Kraig Kinser, 20th starting Bud Kaeding, 23rd starting Brent Marks, Jamie Veal and Jason Johnson completed the top ten.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to the Calistoga Speedway Saturday night for the completion of the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown. Once again, DIRTVision.com will have live video coverage of the event.

Shane Stewart Claims Desired Gold Cup Race of Champions Victory

California locals Justin Sanders and Kyle Hirst complete podium

CHICO, CA - September 9, 2017 - Shane Stewart passed local driver Justin Sanders to win his eighth World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Feature of the season, but his first Gold Cup Race of Champions. Sanders finished a career-best second with Friday's winner Kyle Hirst completing the podium.

Before the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Feature pushed off, Stewart already knew that team owner Kyle Larson picked up the NASCAR victory. Stewart, who is no stranger to Victory Lane at Silver Dollar Speedway, can finally cross off the Gold Cup Race of Champions off of his bucket list.

"When you retire, you are only remembered for the big races you win and this was one that I've always wanted to win. We've been close the last few years and to finally get it means so much to me," Stewart said.

Sanders, in search of his first career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series victory, was strong all weekend. Sanders led the first 11 laps before Stewart got grip on the bottom of turn four to take the lead. Stewart never looked back.

As lapped traffic became heavier Sanders closed back in on Stewart looking to make a move but a caution on lap 28 gave Stewart a clear track sealing the victory for the Larson/Marks Racing No.2

"Before this weekend, if you would have told me that I was going to run second and fifth with the Outlaws, I would have been ecstatic," Sanders said. "I made one mistake in traffic, it's heartbreaking. We are happy no doubt, but we're bummed at the same time.

Kyle Hirst was all smiles after finishing on the podium and thanked the California faithful multiple times for packing the stands all weekend at the Gold Cup Race of Champions.

Australian Jamie Veal finished fourth with 11th starting Willie Croft completing the top five. Brad Sweet was strong coming from 13th to sixth with Carson Macedo coming home seventh. 14th starting Mitchell Faccinto, Jac Haudenschild and 18th starting Logan Schuchart completed the top ten. Donny Schatz, who was forced to use a provisional for the second consecutive night, scored KSE Hard Charger honors coming from 25th to 11th.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to the Calistoga Speedway for the running of the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown Friday and Saturday September 15 and 16.

Kyle Hirst Thrills Hometown Crowd with First World of Outlaws Win at Silver Dollar

Stewart and Scelzi complete podium; California takes top six of seven

CHICO, CA - Kyle Hirst is no stranger to Victory Lane, especially in California. Hirst outdueled Shane Stewart in a thrilling finish Friday at the Silver Dollar Speedway on the opening night of the Gold Cup Race of Champions. It was Hirst's first career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Feature Win. Dominic Scelzi came home third, a career-best for him as well.

Hirst was victorious in Heat 4 after leader Kalib Henry lost power steering and that was crucial as the Craftsman Club Dash Inversion was four, lining Hirst up on the front row of the event. Hirst would walk away with the aforementioned Dash with Shane Stewart coming from fifth to second.

Hirst took command from the drop of the green and led the first six laps before Stewart closed in as traffic thickened. Stewart and Hirst made contact the following lap with the Larson/Marks Racing No.2 leading lap seven. As Stewart navigated traffic, Hirst and Scelzi remained within striking distance.

Coming off of turn four on the 11th circuit, Stewart bobbled on the cushion and allowed Hirst to re-take the lead on lap 12. A caution for Sheldon Haudenschild the following lap allowed everyone to catch their breath.

The lone Red Flag for the evening came on lap 16 when Bud Kaeding got sideways and collected Daryn Pittman and Paul McMahan. All drivers were uninjured in the accident. On the ensuing restart, Jac Haudenschild got contact from another competitor ending his night. Jac was running 5th at the time.

The final 14 laps went non-stop with Hirst and Stewart exchanging slide jobs for the lead multiple times. On two occasions, Stewart cleared Hirst off of turn four for the lead but Hirst turned it under and re-gained command into turn one.

Hirst's win was a popular one among the California faithful and led to an emotion-filled Victory Lane with his Roth Motorsports No. 83 team. "I've been racing for 15 years and I've finally snagged one of these World of Outlaw wins. That's for Chico, California," an exuberant Hirst said in Victory Lane.

Stewart and Scelzi completed the podium. "Coming home second is nothing to shake your head at. We continue to have fast a car and that's a testament to my guys. I feel like we have a shot to win every time we roll out," a content Stewart said.

Cory Eliason and Justin Sanders completed the top five. California drivers took six of the top seven positions as Jonathan Allard, in the second Roth Motorsports entry, and 14th starting Shane Golobic crossed the line next.
David Gravel picked up KSE Hard Charger Honors with an impressive 24th to eighth run. Donny Schatz used a provisional to start 25th and made it up to ninth. Sheldon Haudenschild recovered from a spin mid-race to complete the top ten.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to the Silver Dollar Speedway Saturday night for the conclusion of the 64th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions. DIRTVision.com will have Live Video of the event and if it is anything like it was tonight, you don't want to miss a second of the action.

Daryn Pittman Surges Late for Thrilling Win at Skagit

Gravel earns KSE Hard Charger with second place run

Alger, WA - September 2, 2017 - Former World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series Champion Daryn Pittman is hitting stride and that is not a good sign for the rest of the competition. A night after being collected in an accident going for the lead, Pittman convincingly charged forward late to pocket $12,000 in the Outlaw Energy Showdown at Skagit Speedway. David Gravel picked up KSE Hard Charger honors finishing second with Brad Sweet completing the podium.

In open air, Jason Johnson set a torrid pace. Timely caution flags helped Johnson led the first 34 laps before giving way to Pittman on the 35th circuit. The longer the race stayed under Green Flag conditions, the better Pittman was. Pittman's surge to the front happened in a matter of laps. With the top five cars under a blanket, Pittman surged from fourth to the lead in a span of six laps around the tight 3/10th racing surface.

"Man, I can't say enough about this Great Clips team. I messed up early and kept losing spots on those restarts," Pittman said upon exiting his Kasey Kahne Racing No.9 machine.
One of the biggest storylines of the 2017 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series was Pittman having no wins heading into the month of August. Now, Pittman has three wins - the most of any driver since August - to his credit. "I'm not sure I've ever had more fun driving this race car. It's fast every time it hits the track," a relieved Pittman said in a rare appearance racing in front of his friends and family.

Pittman excelled in turns three and four after getting a big run down the short backstretch. I saw Jason [Johnson] was struggling in traffic. When I got in opening in [turn] three and four, I took it and luckily it was good enough to hold on," the Owasso, OK native said about his race-winning pass.
As Pittman made his charge to the lead, Gravel was equally as fast coming from fifth to second in a span of three laps. By the time Gravel reached second on lap 38, Pittman had already extended a sizeable lead. "We were able to really charge at the end. First through sixth was a hell of a battle and a lot of fun as a race car driver. Just happy to end the race on a good note," Gravel said.

Brad Sweet and Johnson settled for third and fourth respectively with Donny Schatz completing the top five. Shane Stewart, Sheldon Haudenschild, Jason Sides, Paul McMahan and Logan Schuchart completed the all World of Outlaws regular top ten. There was an open red for a fuel leakage on lap 15 after Skagit 360 Sprint Car points leader Robbie Price had nowhere to go after Clyde Knipp and Jacob Allen got together battling. All three were uninjured in the accident.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series stays in Washington with an appearance at the Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma on Labor Day - Monday, September 4th.

Shane Stewart Inherits Lead and Never Looks Back for 6th Win of Season at Skagit

Jason Johnson and Jac Haudenschild complete the podium on first night of the Outlaw Energy Showdown

ALGER, WA - September 1, 2017 - Brad Sweet led the first eight laps before getting together with a slower car and collecting second place running Daryn Pittman. Shane Stewart assumed the lead and never looked back, scoring his sixth win of the 2017 season. Jason Johnson and Jac Haudenschild completed the podium on Night 1 of the Outlaw Energy Showdown at Skagit Speedway with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Cars.

With an inversion of six, Sweet and Kraig Kinser shared the front row of the Craftsman Club Dash. In an action-packed event Sweet powered around Kinser earning the pole position for the 30-lap Feature.

In the Feature, Sweet was strong early as was his Kasey Kahne Racing teammate, Pittman. Pittman made his bid for the lead on the backstretch of the eighth circuit but Sweet muscled back ahead to lead the lap.

The following lap, off of turn four, a chain reaction sent the slower car of Austen Wheatley into the front end of Brad Sweet's Ollie's Bargain Outlet No. 49 ultimately sending the car down the track into his teammate Pittman. Pittman and Clyde Knipp, who was also a lapped down, had nowhere to go on the tight 3/10th mile racing surface.

Both Pittman and Sweet were able to make repairs and return to the rear of the field. Shane Stewart, who was just inches away from being collected as well, assumed the lead with Kinser, Jason Johnson and Jac Haudenschild in tow. 'The Wild Child' used a great restart on the top to shoot into the runner-up position and begin chasing down Stewart for the lead.

A pair of double-file restarts, for cautions on lap 10 and 18 respectively, gave Haudenschild a chance for the lead but the Wooster, Ohio veteran couldn't get close enough to mount a serious challenge. With seven to go, Haudenschild took a chance ultimately opening the door for Johnson to squeeze by for second.

A yellow with five to go gave the field one last chance to steal the win from Stewart. To no avail as the Bixby, OK native piloted the Larson/Marks Racing No.2 to Victory Lane for the sixth time in 2017. Johnson, who has never finished worse than fourth at Skagit, settled for second with Haudenschild scoring a strong podium finish in the Stenhouse Jr./Wood Racing No. 17. Donny Schatz and Jac's son, Sheldon, completed the top five. Greg Wilson picked up KSE Hard Charger honors coming from 14th to sixth. Pittman and Sweet made it back forward to tenth and 12th, respectively.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to the Skagit Speedway Saturday evening for the conclusion of the Outlaw Energy Showdown.
