Grosso Gets Job Done At New Egypt; Simmons Mr. Crate Modified 2019

New Egypt, NJ – Belle Mead, NJ’s Brandon Grosso picked up his first New Egypt Speedway victory of 2019 on Saturday night during Jeep Night 2. Ryan Simmons was crowned Mr. Crate Modified for 2019 by winning the Mr. Crate Classic while Rich Mellor picked up his sixth Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Car feature with Dominick Antonelli scoring his first career Mike’s Performance Center 4-Cylinder feature.

Blaine Bracelin jumped out to the early lead and would lead the first five laps of the Modified feature with Danny Bouc in tow after getting to the second position on lap two with Brandon Grosso following him up through the field. Grosso would wrestle the lead away from Bracelin on a lap five restart with Bouc now in second followed closely by Billy Pauch Jr. and last week’s winner David Van Horn. Pauch Jr. would move in to the runner-up spot on lap six and began to chase down Grosso. Pauch Jr. would officially lead lap nine by a bumper over Grosso with an outside pass but a yellow would fall negating the pass before the field was past the stripe handing the lead back to Grosso. On the ensuing restart Grosso would take the outside lane and pulled away to a five-car length lead over Pauch Jr. The field would encounter lapped traffic at the halfway mark, as Brandon Grosso’s lead would fluctuate as they diced through the back of the field. Finally with just three laps to go Pauch Jr. would shrink the lead to just a couple car lengths closing even more with two to go, but it would be to no avail as Brandon Grosso would take the win by just two car lengths over Pauch Jr. David VanHorn would come home third with Danny Bouc and Davey Sammons rounding out the top five.

“On that restart I picked the top after he was trying to play games, I just had to play some of my own games and I got away from him and that was it”, said Grosso post race. “These guys that race here are tough no matter where you start, its tough to beat these guys. Once I got the lead I felt comfortable up top so I just stayed there.”

Ryan Simmons was the eventual winner of the 30-lap Mr. Crate Classic after Steve Davis took the checkered flag first but was found illegal in post-race tech inspection. The $750 victory was Simmons’ second win of the 2019 season after picking up the win on opening night. Jeremy Martino, Steve Hicks, Eric Palmer and Anthony Tramontana Jr. completed the top five,

“Ill take it, I’m happy to be here and we did it the right way”, spoke Simmons after the races.

Rich Mellor picked up his sixth Larry’s Hot Rods and Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Car win of 2019 on Saturday after an epic battle at the front of the field throughout the closing laps of the event. Brian Spencer would come home second for the second straight week, Larry Drake, Duane Nixon and Brad Schaale were the rest of the top five.

Dominick Antonelli would finally shake the monkey off his back and win his first career Mike’s Performance Center 4-Cylinder win at the New Egypt Speedway. Joe Garey Sr., TJ Graves, Justin Dunn and Joe King completed the top five.

David VanHorn Blitzes the Field on Youth Football Night at NES

(July 27, 2019): David VanHorn of Ringoes, NJ won his second Vahlco Wheels Modified feature event of the season on Eastern Auto Parts Warehouse Youth Football Night Saturday at New Egypt Speedway. The 2018 Modified champion, DVH charged to the front quickly and never looked back as he recorded his 8th career victory in the 30 lap non stop event, which was completed in just 9 minutes and 14 seconds.

“I have to thank the guys up at DKM Fabrication, This car was on rails tonight!”, stated an elated VanHorn in victory lane, “I also want to thank my Dad for all of his help and Fred Vahlsing for giving me the opportunity to drive this car and all of his support”

JR Fulper and Pat Wall brought the field to the green flag with Fulper taking command. This was short lived as Wall drove under Fulper on lap 3 to take over the lead. Wall had his #5w glued to the inside guardrail as he tried to open up a little breathing room on the field. Danny Bouc, who started in fifth, was on the move racing into second on lap 5. Meanwhile VanHorn was charging thru the field using the top groove and was suddenly in third closing in on the leaders. Before Bouc could mount a serious challenge on Wall for the lead, DVH flew by on the outside sweeping to the front. Bouc quickly switched to the outside and followed VanHorn by Wall and into second. Bouc set his sights on reeling in VanHorn, however this was not to be as VanHorn’s #323 drove off into the night, while Bouc did everything he could to keep pace. With just 10 laps remaining lapped traffic came into play, but DVH handled it masterfully and cruised to the victory. Bouc settled for a solid and well-earned second place finish. Point leader Billy Pauch Jr. marched thru the field from his 13th starting position to come home third, Pat Wall used the inside groove to perfection finishing fourth and Mike Butler, who fell back in the pack early, came on strong late to finish in the top five.

Rich Mellor of North Hanover Twp., NJ padded his point lead by scoring his 5th victory of the season in the Larry’s Hot Rods and Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint cars. Mellor took the lead before the halfway point of the 20 lap event and drove to his 7th career win. Brian Spencer came home second in his new car, followed by Heidi Hedin, Duane Nixon and John Brammell.

David Burns of Flemington, NJ was victorious in the Hammer Sportsman 20 lap feature event, as he led his car owner and teammate Marty Resnick for most of the event when the races only caution flew on the final lap. Burns kept control on the restart and scored his first win of 2019. Three-time champion Bob Lineman Jr. grabbed second on the final turn as Resnick settled for third. JT Trstensky and Art Liedl rounded out the top five.

Brian Spencer outdueled point leader Billy Liedtka in just his second start for the 15 lap Street Stock victory. Spencer raced side by side with Liedtka over the final laps, beating the all-time leading Street Stock winner by a bumper at the stripe. Todd Dige finished third in his first time out this season, followed by Billy Wroble and Jim Avery.

Next week Sat. night August 3rd, it is Scout night & Jeep Night 2 at New Egypt Speedway. All Scouts in uniform will get in for free & everyone who brings their Jeep will receive ½ price general admission and there will be a Jeep parade on the track at intermission. The Vahlco Wheels Modifieds will once again headline the event, and they will be joined on the track by the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harleys NEWS Sprint Cars, the Crate Modifieds and the Mike’s Performance Center 4-cylinders. Sammons Links Up Win Number Two On Premio Foods Night At New Egypt Speedway

New Egypt, NJ – Bordentown, NJ’s Davey Sammons picked up his second career and second Vahlco Wheels Modified feature event win of the season at the New Egypt Speedway on Saturday night on Upper Freehold/Hamilton Township night presented by Premio Foods. Also earning victories on Saturday night were Ricky DiEva in the Mid Atlantic 305 Sprint Cars, Matt Miller in the Crate Modifieds and Bill Liedtka in the Street Stocks.

Milford, NJ’s JR Fulper led the Vahlco Wheels Modified feature event to the green flag with Davey Sammons in tow. After some yellow flag fever to start the Modified feature, Fulper would set a torrid pace and appeared to be on his way to his first career Modified win until lap 16 when Fulper entering turn three would tangle with a lapped car ending his night. Fulper’s mishap would then hand the lead to Davey Sammons who would go on to win his second career and second Modified win of 2019 at NES. Following a lap two tangle that sent him pit side with a flat tire Billy Pauch Jr. rallied to finish second, further extending his point lead. Brandon Grosso, Rich Rutski and Ryan Krachun would round out the top five. Sammons would dedicate his win to long time supporter John Chemedlin who recently passed away.

“This one is for John, I thought about that with two laps to go, I had a tear running down my eye”, said Sammons post race. “It’s a shame, JR was running a good race, I thought I would be able to get to the lead on the top early but I couldn’t get off of two so I just fell in line and rode behind him for a little bit. I got a little tight early and I thought he would come back to me but he wasn’t. I thought I would get a shot at him in lapped traffic and it’s unfortunate what happened to him but we had a good car.”

It was a pair of young guns dueling in Crate Modified action between Matt Miller and Anthony Tramontana Jr. Miller would control the distance over Tramontana until Tramontana had a driveline issue under caution. Miller would then hold off a hard charging Joe Toth to pick up his first career Crate Modified victory. Toth would take over the point lead with his runner-up finish. Miller’s best career finish prior to this Saturday was a 12th. Steve Davis, Ryan Simmons and Johnny Bangs completed the top five.

Mid Atlantic 305 Sprint Car Rookie Ricky DiEva led wire-to-wire in the 20 lap main event picking up his first career Sprint Car win. Mark Bitner was a man on a mission trying to catch DiEva in the late stages of the event but it would be to no avail. Bitner, Jeff Geiges, Tim Tanner Jr. and Eddie Wagner rounded out the top five.

Bill Liedtka just keeps adding to his all time leading Street Stock win total, picking up the win on Saturday night over a fast Brian Spencer, Jimmy Avery, Joe Reid and Billy Wroble.

Six AMA Flat Track Motorcycles took part in three exhibitions throughout the evening in anticipation of next Sunday’s AMA Garden State Flat Track Classic.

(June 22, 2019): Cale Ross of Lambertville, NJ won his first career Vahlco Wheels Modified feature event on Graduation night Saturday at New Egypt Speedway. The 2016 NES Rookie champion, turned Modified Rookie this year, dominated the evening winning his heat race and then leading all 30 laps of the non stop event in just 9 minutes and 13 seconds. Ross survived a late race challenge from John McCelland in heavy lapped traffic to record the victory in just his 11th Modified start.

“I am really surprised to be standing here, We were broke after warm-ups”, stated a shocked Ross in victory lane, “But our engine-builder Gary Bouc ran around & got us fixed and here we are!”

McClelland and Ross brought the field to the start with Ross seizing control as they exited turn two. Ross, with McClelland in tow, pulled away from the rest of the field over the first half of the event. Danny Bouc & Ryan Krachun were the fast movers in the early going as they raced into the top 5. Point leader Billy Pauch Jr. charged up from 14th starting position and began challenging for a top five spot as the race reached the halfway point. By lap 19 Ross had almost a full straightaway lead over McClelland as he began to encounter lapped traffic. The traffic slowed him up a bit but he continued to smoothly lap each one as McClelland began to cut into his advantage. With 7 laps to go he approached the cars of Jimmy Blewett and JR Fulper racing side by side for position. After several laps of trying to find a way past them “Johnny Mac” had just about erased his big lead. But with 2 laps remaining Ross made the move of the race as he “threaded the needle” between the two cars going into turn three and then cruised to the popular victory. John McClelland finished in the second position posting his season best finish, as Rich Rutski also posted his season best finish crossing the line third. Pauch Jr. and Bouc completed the top five.

Aaron Weaver of Upper Black Eddy, PA was also a first time winner on this evening as he recorded his first career win in the Crate Modified 20 lap feature event, which ran the final 19 laps non-stop. Weaver held on in lapped traffic as Jeremy Martino and Tom Princiotta, both searching for their first win, applied late race pressure before settling for second and third respectively. Dan Fleming finished fourth and Ryan Simmons rounded out the top five.

Steve Davis visited victory lane for the second time this season with the Hammer Sportsman. Davis avoided an early race pile-up and then held off a persistent Will Dupree to win the 20 lap event. Joseph Brown came home third, chased across the line by 2018 Rookie champ Ryan Heim and 3 time Sportsman champ Bob Lineman Jr.

The Lyons Construction/MetalFab Rookie’s ran their final event with Ryan Krushinski winning for the second straight week. Vinny Troia nipped DJ Hunt at the line for second in the 12 lap Graduation night finale. Anthony Tramontana Jr. of Vineland, NJ was crowned the 2019 NES Rookie champion after finishing fourth.

Vern McLaughlin out ran point leader Billy Liedtka for the 15 lap Street Stock victory. Billy Wroble, Joe Reid and Dennis Seeley chased the duo at the finish.

This Tuesday night it is the third annual Garden State Gunfight for the Modifieds. The Modifieds will race in a 60 lap Feature event paying $6000 to win and $400 to start. Also in action will be the Crate vs.Open Sportsman in a 30 lap Main event paying $1000 to win and $100 to start. Billy Osmun III led the Vahlco Wheels Modified’s to the green flag and would get out to the early lead. Osmun would lead the first four laps of the 30-lap affair until the first yellow flag flew when PJ Oliver came to a stop in turn number four. Osmun would lead the field back to the green on the ensuing restart but it would be Mike Butler jumping out to the lead clearing Osmun off of turn two. Ryan Krachun would be the man on the move as he charged up to fourth place behind Butler, Osmun and Kevin Vaclavicek.

Butler would continue to lead the way over the course of the next 22 laps when John McClelland came to a stop in turn two. Under the caution for McClelland Ryan Godown went pitside with a left-rear flat tire. On the restart Butler would again jump out to the lead but less than a lap later the yellow flag would come unfurled again when Pat Wall spun off of turn four. Butler again would jump out to the lead following the yellow. Brandon Grosso would enter the top-5 for the first time on lap 27. Butler would take the white flag as the leader but the final caution would wave on lap 29 when Danny Bouc came to a stop on the frontstretch setting up a one-lap dash for the win. Butler would again jump out to the lead and beat Osmun back to the stripe to pick up his first career Modified win. Kevin Vaclavicek, Ryan Krachun and Brandon Grosso would round out the top 5.

“We had some bad luck last week and this is a hell of a way to capitalize on it. It’s been years since I’ve seen Victory Lane. The last thing I wanted to see was caution after caution going for your first win. I can’t thank everyone enough that makes this possible”, said Butler postrace.

Duane Nixon jumped out to the lead during the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Car feature event and would not look back as he as well picked up his first career victory over Brad Schaale, Kevin Nealls, Eric Degler and Chace Leahy.

Robbie Holzwarth III also would score his first career Crate Modified feature event as he controlled virtually the entire distance. Holzwarth would hold off a hard-charging Johnny Bangs. Ryan Heim would come home third with Steve Hicks and Eric Palmer completing the Top-5.

Ryan Krushinski would complete the first career win trifecta winning the Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman feature over Anthony Tramontana Jr., DJ Hunt, Zach Merola and Vinny Troia.

(June 8, 2019): Defending Modified champion David VanHorn of Harmony, NJ captured his first Vahlco Wheels Modified feature event of 2019 in thrilling fashion Saturday night at New Egypt Speedway. In a race that will be talked about for a long time, VanHorn grabbed the lead from Pat Wall and Ryan Krachun with just two laps remaining and held on for his 7th career win ay NES. The trio had a spirited battle over the final 5 laps, racing three-wide on several occasions including the race-winning pass.

“We weren’t good on the outside early in the race”, exclaimed a jubilant VanHorn in the winner’s circle, “The moisture was coming up on the low side and you just had to be patient. It was a tough week and our team really needed this win tonight!”

Blaine Bracelin & John Pakenham brought the 24-car field to the start for the second week in a row. On the second attempt the two made contact with both bringing out the yellow after collecting Billy Osmun and Wade Hendrickson. With a new front row of Pat Wall and Ryan Krachun the race was on with Wall getting the lead only to see Krachun make a nice pass and assume command. Krachun pulled out quickly to a half straightaway lead while battles raged behind him throughout the top ten. When the caution appeared on lap 9 this gave Wall another shot at the leader and on the restart Wall went back out in front with Krachun working on the inside of him. Lap 12 found tenth starting Davey Sammons racing into third and challenging the leaders. Sammons made it a three car battle until the yellow flag flew just before the halfway point of the event. The restart was wild as the top ten shuffled positions behind the lead duo and last weeks winner Ryan Godown charged into third from his 16th starting position. Godown began pressuring the leaders as defending champ David VanHorn, who had been treading water in the back of the top ten suddenly found a bite on the bottom of the speedway. With ten laps remaining Wall continued to hold off a fast and persistent Krachun on the high groove as VanHorn raced by Godown into third and caught the leaders. The three raced together in close quarters and as the flagger signaled five laps to go each decided it was time to make their move. What ensued brought the crowd to their feet as the trio raced side by side and at times three wide for the top spot with Wall continuing to be shown the leader each lap. As the two-to-go signal was given DVH finally found the grip he had been patiently waiting for on the inside as all three cars raced side by side for the lead and he surged to the front. Wall and Krachun were both not done as the stayed right with VanHorn challenging the veteran over the final two circuits but it proved to be VanHorn’s night as he crossed the stripe just in front of Wall. Krachun settled for a very close third ahead of point leader Billy Pauch Jr. and Davey Sammons.

The Hammer Sportsman 20 lap feature saw three-time champion Bob Lineman Jr. post his first win of the season and 21st of his career. Lineman used a late race restart to charge from 4th to the lead on the high side of the track passing leader Jim Housworth, who settled for a hard fought second. Joseph Brown, last week’s winner Steve Davis and 2018 Rookie champ Ryan Heim rounded out the top five.

The Lyons Construction/MetalFab Rookie feature was won for the fourth time by point leader Anthony Tramontana Jr. as he bested DJ Hunt by three car lengths. Ryan Krushinski finished third followed by Zach Merola.

The Mike’s Performance 4-Cylinders were won for the third time this season by point leader Mike Fox. Fox inherited the lead on lap 11 when leader Dom Antonelli suffered a broken motor. Justin Dunn chased Fox across the finish line followed by 2 time winners TJ Graves and Joe Garey Sr. with Jim Avery completing the top five.

The Street Stock feature was won Bill Liedtka for the third time this year. Liedtka beat out Jim Avery and Joe Reid for his 29th career Street Stock triumph at NES.

Next week Sat. night June 15th it is Jackson Twp. night at New Egypt Speedway. All residents of nearby Jackson NJ will receive free general admission into the speedway with proof of residency. The Vahlco Wheels Modifieds headline the evening joined on the track by the Larry’s Hot Rods and Harley’s NEWS Sprint cars, Crate Modifieds, and the Lyons Construction/MetalFab Rookie Sportsman. In addition the annual Father’s Day races will take place at the end of the night, as the driver’s dads will jump into their son’s cars and challenge each other. Admission will be $20 for Adults, and gates will open at 5pm, with warm-ups at 6pm and the first race taking place at 7pm.
