Dick Rathmann drove the Walt Chapman Hudson Hornet to a then record setting 3rd straight NASCAR Grand National victory, winning the 100 mile race on the high banked 1/2 mile paved Dayton Speedway in Dayton, Ohio. Rathmann took the lead on lap 48 and led the rest of the way. It was the 4th win of the season for Rathmann. After the steering wheel fell off of his Plymouth, Ted Chamberlain drove the final 120 laps using just the steering nub (!). 14 of the 15 starters finished.
