“Jammin” Jimmy Wells Captures The Modified Cargo For 2nd Win In Accord Speedway Action

Accord, NY- Accord Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer presented a seven division show on Friday evening that went off without a hitch. The weather was just right and the Catskills Mountain scenery is majestic to behold no matter what time of the season. The special show that was set for Wednesday night was unfortunately postponed to a later date to be named later in the summer as Promoter Gary Palmer took a nasty spill off of the grader when preparing the track for racing and has been in quite some discomfort since then. Mr. Palmer soldiered on to have the speedway ready for Friday evening and had the facility “fit as a fiddle” as he always does. Friday night produced another of those great nights as another great crowd was on hand to enjoy the evening of speed sponsored by the good folks at Dig Safely New York. (www.digsafelynewyork.com)

Jimmy Wells rocked the house with an outstanding drive to capture his second Modified win of the season at Accord and in doing so becoming the first driver to double down and collect his earnings in the Insinger Fuels Modified finale. "The Bushkill Bullet" Kyle Rohner captured his fifth win of the season in the Arkel Motors Sportsman main event. Livy Johnson celebrated her 18th birthday by driving past her fellow combatants to capture her first win of the season as she captured the Upstate Auto Pure Stock encounter. "The Travelin Man" Mick D’Agostino raced to his second win of the season in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car feature. Michael Corbin was triumphant in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature event as he captured his ever win at the speedway. The Emmanuel's Marketplace Fireball 4-Cylinder feature was captured by another first time winner as Jesse Torrens found the bottom of the raceway to be his ticket to the checkered flag and was victorious. The Emmanuel’s Marketplace Four Cylinder Enduros closed the show with a rip-snorting and entertaining fifty lap finale that found Shawn Maloney having the hot foot in a rousing win for him.

Eddie Burgess and Danny Creeden brought the field down for the start of the Insinger Fuels 30-lap headliner for the Modifieds. Creeden jumped into the lead from his front row starting spot and immediately found the center lane of the speedway much to his liking as he was able to control the top spot easily though the first twelve laps until a restart slowed the action. On the restart Jimmy Wells would move along side of Creeden and the pair squared off and it would be Wells winning the battle off of turn two to take command of the lead.
Creeden would follow but in the blink of an eye Anthony Perrego came knocking and took over the runner-up slot. By that time Wells had built up a solid lead and Perrego pullled out all of the stops to reel him and did. They would be nose to tail in slower traffic and Perrego took a couple of shots on the inside to try to slip past Wells but it would be Wells crossing the line first with Perrego a nip away in Rich Ricci Jr was third with Jerry Higbie and Danny Creeden completing the top five. The returning Andy Bachetti headed up the second five with Joe Judge, Richard Smith, Mike Ricci and Jesse Marks completing the top ten. The action was jam-packed with excitement throughout the entire 30-laps of racing.

The Arkel Motors Sportsman event found Mike Senecal in the lead for two laps before yielding to the high flying Leo Fotopolous. “The Architect” would roll out to a big lead but a disabled Greg McCloskey would bring out the caution on lap-17. On the restart it would be Kyle Rohner behind Fotopolous and Rohner kicked the race car up a notch as he drove by Fotopolous one lap later and built up a nice margin of victory at the checkered flag. Rohner would carve out a huge advantage over the field as he separated himself from the pack and he would go on to his fifth win of the season. Cole Hentschel was second with Leo Fotopolous, Nick Plumstead and Mike Senecal completing the top five. Alex VanPelt, Tyler Johnston, Danny Morgiewicz, Chris VanDuser and Anthony Recchio would round out the top ten.

Michael Corbin raced into the lead at the start of the WRWD Radio Rookie
Sportsman feature attraction. Corbin had a fast car and enjoyed a quick breakaway from the field. Only in the latter stages of the event did Travis Green get close to make it a solid event. Corbin would go on to capture his ever win at Accord in a full size car with Green in the runner-up role. Joe Coppola recovered from a spin to finish third while John Brown and the returning Samantha Muller would complete the top five positions. Charles Loiodice, Erin Paulison, Jared Miller, newcomers Travis Cogswell and Billy Fiske completed the field.

In the Upstate Auto Pure Stock event Livy Johnson seized the moment and would lead all of the way to give herself a big win on her birthday. Travis Brockner would race to second with Steve Williams, and the returning John Drake completing the top five. Emerson Cargain headed up the second five with newcomer Jimmy Maher, Ray Tarantino, newcomer JB Morris and Mike Arrigoni following.

Mick D'Agostino would jump into the lead off of turn four at the start in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint feature. D'Agostino would lead all of the way as he withstood many challenges from Jeremy Quick to go on and secure his second win of the season at Accord. Quick would finish second with Mark Conolly and Mike Traver finishing as the cars running at the end.

In the regularly scheduled Fireballers feature, Ed King led the first four laps before giving way to Jesse Torrens on a restart. Jesse Torrens would remain in front for the remainder of race and holding off challenges from Jerry Kingeter and Shawn Maloney. Torrens would hold on for his first career win at Accord and enjoy a big celebration in the WRWD Victory Lane. Kingeter, Maloney, Dave Donovan and Jeff DeGroat completed the top five. Anthony Tarantino, Marisol Torrens, Nicole Nelson, Willie DeGraw and Ed King would complete the top ten.

In the Emmanuels Marketplace Four Cylinder Enduro show closer, Jeff DeGroat would lead for the first 22-laps until yielding to the mighty fast Shawn Maloney. Once Maloney was in front he sailed around the competition with ease as he went on to his first win of the season. Jeff DeGroat would hang on for second with Johnny Bankich charging from 15th starting position to nail down third place. George Zeininger returned to action and was fourth with Shawny Hazel completing the top five.
GEMSTONES:

The hotly contested racing action was completed at 10:28 PM. Kudos again to Gary Palmer for working through much pain and agony to give the competitors an excellent race track to display their talents and for the fans to enjoy an evening of great racing action.

A special thanks goes out to our friends at Dig Safely New York. Area Rep John Yehl was in the house and interviewed with Announcer Steve Pados regarding the many benefits of calling “811.”

Writer Marie Doyons was also in the house referencing material she will be doing for the “Chronogram” Magazine. She also interviewed and stated just being on the speedway grounds made her a fan as the excitement spills over with each division that takes to the race track.

Heat wins went to Rich icci Jr, Danny Creeden and Jimmy Wells in the Modified division. Two heats were needed for the Sportsman with wins going to Matt Shultz and Leo Fotopolous. The Rookie Sportsman heats were claimed by John Brown and Michael Corbin. Mick D'Agostino captured the sprint car heat win. The Pure Stock heat wins were captured by Travis Brockner and Livy Johnson. Fireball heat winners included Willie DeGraw and Richard Smith.

Grandma Anne’s Pies were in the house and each feature winner was given a treat worth consuming for their dining pleasure.

Accord Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer have enjoyed a great season thus far in 2018 even though there have been evenings when the skies were threatening and even doused the speedway with precipitation. Through all of the challenges they have been able to promote some of the very best racing action around. They have been able to throw caution to the wind and continue on with their season and the solid fan base has appreciated the hard work and effort the Palmer Family has put into the facility and the ability to dodge most of the challenges they have been faced with. "The Montgomery Missile" Anthony Perrego rocked the house with an outstanding drive to capture his first Modified win of the season at Accord and in doing so keeping the Modified win list at seven different drivers winning after seven events in the Insinger Fuels Modified finale. "The Bushkill Bullet" Kyle Rohner captured his fourth win of the season in in the Arkel Motors Sportsman main event. Steve Williams claimed his second win of the season as he captured the Upstate Auto Pure Stock encounter. "The Captain" Jeremy Quick raced to his third win of the season in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car feature. Garden Stater "The Angle" Cole Stangle was triumphant in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature event and became the first driver to double down in the division. Ray See Sr was triumphant in the Northeast Vintage Modifed finale. The Emmanuel's Marketplace Fireball 4-Cylinder feature competed in two feature attractions and Jerry Kingeter and Shawn Maloney each captured a win.

"The Lightning Bolt" Modified rookie Rich Ricci III jumped into the lead from his front row starting spot and immediately found the center lane of the speedway much to his liking as he was able to control the top spot easily though the first ten laps. Seventh starting Anthony Perrego worked his magic through the field and would begin to pressure Ricci with some baseline moves from both ends of the speedway. Perrego would vault into the lead on lap-13 and began to carve out some distance on those behind him. Mike Ricci would move into second with Jerry HIgbie following suit into third place. Mike Ricci would quickly find the lane he enjoyed and would close in the ranks on Perrego and the two would be nose to tail when a spin slowed the action. On the restart Perrego quickly raced out to a four car length lead he would maintain as the checkered flag fell for Perrego as he captured his first Accord Speedway win of the season. Mike Ricci would earn runner-up honors with Jerry Higbie, Richard Smith and Rich Ricci III completing the top five. Danny Creeden headed up the second five with Rich Ricci Jr, the returning Tyler Boniface, Michael Storms, and Allison Ricci completing the top ten.

The Arkel Motors Sportsman event found Matt Shultz in the lead for one lap before spinning out in front of the field in turn three with the drivers doing some great work in avoiding a potentially dangerous situation. When racing resumed Chris VanDuser would lead for a lap before yielding to the high flying Kyle Rohner. Rohner would carve out a huge advantage over the field as he separated himself from the pack and he would easily race to his fourth win of the season. Cole Hentschel was second with Hunter Lapp, Nick Plumstead and Chris VanDuser completing the top five. Anthony Recchio would head the second five with Matt Shultz, Kevin Stevens, Mike Senecal and Alex VanPelt rounding out the top ten.

Charles Loiodice raced into the lead at the start of the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature attraction. Loiodice enjoyed a quick breakaway from the field as he appeared headed for his second win of the season. On lap-12 Charles Loiodice came to a rolling stop in turns three and four and would be pushed into the pits. Cole Stangle inherited the lead and that was all he needed to lead the final three laps and claim his second win of the season. Travis Green rallied to finish in the runner-up slot while Joe Coppola, Brian Durbin and newcomer Bryan Jones would complete the top five positions.

In the Upstate Auto Pure Stock event Travis Brockner would lead for a lap before yielding to Steve Williams. Williams would lead until a lap-4 crash would take Brockner from the field. On the restart it would again be Williams and he would be challenged each step of the way by John Hechinger. Hechinger pulled close on occasion and on lap-12 smoke began to billow from the Williams race car. He would hold on to capture his second win of the season with Hechinger, Emerson Cargain, Ray Tarantino and Steve Kanuk following.

Mick D'Agostino would jump into the lead off of turn four at the start in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint feature. D'Agostino would lead until a scary wreck would put Dan Malley upside down in turn one. Malley would walk away from the incident. On the restart Jeremy Quick would step hard on the gas pedal and take over the lead and the power move would take him all of the way to the checkered flag for his third win of the season.
Mick D'Agostino would ern runner-up honors while the returning Bobby Tersillo, Jordan Lawrence and newcomer Gary Huston would complete the top five.

In the regularly scheduled Fireballers feature, Jesse Torrens led the first five laps before giving way to Shawn Maloney. Maloney was fast from any part of the raceway and would go on to earn his first win of the season. Jerry Kingeter, Jeff DeGroat, Ryan Heady and Jesse Torrens completed the top five.

In the held over Fireballers event, Williw DeGraw led for the first three laps until Jerry Kingeter sailed by him. Kingeter would lead the rest of the way to pick up his third win of the season. DeGraw would finish second with Jeff DeGroat, Shawn Maloney and Russell Doland completing the top five.

The Northeast Vintage Modified main found third starting Ray See Sr taking the lead on the backstretch of lap one and then leading all of the way despite some final lap heroics from Mike Houghtaling. See Sr, Mike Houghtaling, Mike Brown, Charlie Houghtaling and Bob Harless completed the top five. A great car count was on hand for the event as 15-cars took the green flag to start the event.

GEMSTONES:

The hotly contested racing action was completed at 11 PM. Kudos again to Gary Palmer and crew for whipping the speedway into excellent shape for the evening of racing action.

Heat wins went to Richard Smith, Danny Creeden and Jimmy Wells in the Modified division while three heats were needed for the Sportsman with wins going to Matt Shultz, Danny Morgiewicz and Cole Hentschel. The Rookie Sportsman heats were claimed by John Brown and Charles Loiodice. Mick D'Agostino captured the sprint car heat win. The Pure Stock heat win was captured by Travis Brockner. Fireball heat winners included Jesse Torrens and Richard Smith. Mike Brown and Charlie Houghtaling were victorious in the Vintage heats.

Craig Cuneo returned to action in 2018 and has made the transition into the sportsman division. Unfortunately Craig was caught up in the crash at the start of the feature. Good to see Mark Pullen return to action in the Modifieds. "Double D" Dave Demorest returned to action in the Sportsman. Bryan Jones was a new addition to the rookie ranks in a car that appeared to be similar to a former Bloom owned race car. Good to see Bobby Tersillo return to action in the sprinters.

Mark Conolly got upside down in the sprint car heat but repaired the car in time for the feature although he was early casualty.

Wednesday Evening, June 13th will have the Speedway open for a special event, "The Summer Shootout" for the Arkel Motors Crate Sportsman with $1,000.00 on the line for the winner. The Upstate Auto Pure Stock, the Emmanuel's Marketplace Fireball Four Cylinders, and the All Star and Junior Slingshots will complete the show. The show will be presented by Insinger Fuels.

Accord, NY- Kyle VanDuser Cements the Modified Field For 1st Ever Win In Accord Speedway Action

Accord Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer were very much aware the rain was heading in their direction, but they threw caution to the wind and they and their staff hustled through the evening and completed five of the six divisions before Mother Nature threw her weight around the area. "The Koncrete Kid" Kyle VanDuser rocked the house with an outstanding drive to capture his first ever Modified win at Accord and in doing so besting one of the top names in the history of the speedway "The
Chairman of the Board" Rich Ricci Jr in the Insinger Fuels Modified finale. "The Bushkill Bullet" Kyle Rohner captured his third Accord win of the season in a rim-riding battle with "The Tornado" Tyler Johnston in the Arkel Motors Sportsman main. Emerson Cargain Jr made it three wins for the season as he captured the Upstate Auto Pure Stock encounter. "The Captain" Jeremy Quick raced to his second win of the season in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car feature. Hyde Park, New York rookie Joe Coppola was triumphant in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature event to claim his first ever win at the speedway. The Emmanuel's Marketplace Fireball 4-Cylinder feature will be run at a later date.

VanDuser jumped into the lead from his front row start and pasted his hot rod at the top of the cushion. A spin by Danny Creeden brought the field to a halt on lap six. On the restart, Rich Ricci Jr would make many overtures for the lead but the determined VanDuser had found the zone he wanted and stuck to his guns with Ricci working off of the baseline to find his way into the lead. Just behind the leaders Jimmy Wells, Jerry Higbie, Anthony Perrego and Mike Ricci were working their magic forward.

Ricci would pull out all of the stops and for a few laps the lead duo raced side by side with VanDuser continuing to win the battle off the top of the raceway. VanDuser would not be denied on this evening and steered his VanDuser Concrete Foundation racer into the WRWD Victory Lane. Rich Ricci Jr was the runner-up in a fine drive with Jimmy Wells, Jerry Higbie and Anthony Perrego following. Mike Ricci headed up the second five with Jesse Marks, Michael Storms, Scott Ferrier and Richard Smith completing the top ten.

The Arkel Motors Sportsman event found "The Junior Rock" Matt Shultz grabbing the lead from his front row start. Shultz built up a lead of six car lengths until a caution came out on lap ten for a disabled Jamie Yannone. When racing resumed Tyler Johnston would place plenty of pressure on Shultz and finally slip past him on lap-14. Along with the lead change, Kyle Rohner blasted into the runner-up slot and the the run for the roses took on a whole new meaning.

Johnston was solid as he raced off of the cushion with Rohner testing all of the channels to find a way around him. On lap-21 Rohner found the hot spot of the raceway to make his move and he worked past Johnston. Rohner would lead the final laps and claim his third win of the season. Johnston was tough as nails in second while Cole Hentschel, Nick Plumstead and Chris VanDuser completed the top five. The second five found Corey Cormier, Hunter Lapp, RJ Smith, Chris Stevens and Leo Fotopolous from sixth to tenth.

Joe Coppola raced into the lead at the start of the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature attraction. Coppola enjoyed a quick breakaway but Charles Loiodice worked his way into the second position and began to reel Coppola in. Around the halfway mark Loiodice would spin between turns three and four causing a caution. On the restart, Coppola separated himself from the field and would go to capture his first ever win at Accord. Travis Green, Cole Stangle Mike Travis and a charge back from Loiodice would complete the top five.

A first lap crash slowed the action in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock event as it put fan favorite Livy Johnson on the sidelines for the remainder of the evening. When racing resumed Emerson Cargain grabbed the lead as he got off to a great start and it would prove to be the winning move as Cargain would wire the field on his way to his third win of the season. John Hechinger kept it close with a fine in the runner-up slot. Steve Williams was third even though he nursed a smoking gun to the finish line. Travis Brockner, John Drake, Ray Tarantino and Chris Kanuk completed the field.

Jeremy Quick would jump into the lead off of turn two in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint feature and the power move would take him all of the way in the event as Quick would lead all laps on his way to his second win of the season. The hotly contested racing action was completed at 9:30PM as the heavy rains pelted the speedway hard as the Rookie event came to a close. Kudos to Gary Palmer and crew for whipping the speedway into excellent shape for the evening of racing action.

Heat wins went to Kyle VanDuser, Eddie Burgess and Jesse Marks in the Modified division while two heats were needed for the Sportsman with wins going to Tyler Johnston and Chris VanDuser. The Rookie Sportsman heats were claimed by Joe Coppola and Travis Green. Anthony Davis captured the sprint car heat win. Pure Stock heats wins were captured by Livy Johnson and Steve Williams. Accord, NY- Jerry Higbie Makes a Statement In Modified Triumph At Accord Speedway

With Mother Nature seemingly controlling the fortunes and misfortunes of racing in the Northeast, Accord Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer have been rolling the dice and dodging the crazy weather patterns to keep their speedway operating on schedule. They ushered in the Memorial Day weekend on Friday evening at their superb quarter-mile speedplant located in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. With the sun shining brightly and warm temperatures finally arriving, the Palmer Family had a great field of racers prepared to go racing and an enthusiastic crowd of loyal fans on hand for the event. WRWD Radio 107.3 FM was the headline sponsor for the evening and presented a show with country music from radio personality Uncle Mike Hansen from WRWD Radio. www.wrwdcountry.iheart.com

Not one of the fans left the house disappointed as "The Statesman" Jerry Higbie took over the lead on lap seven and ran away from the field the remainder of the way to capture his first win at Accord in some time in the Insinger Fuels Modifieds. "The Architect" Leo Fotopolous laid claim to his first ever win at Accord in the Arkel Motors Sportsman finale with a stellar wire to wire run to the checkered flag. "The Captain" Jeremy Quick earned his first win of the season in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Cars. Steve Williams put together a masterful run to triumph in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature while the holdover feature event for the Pure Stockers was claimed by Emerson Cargain. Travis Green Scored his first ever Accord win in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman event. In the Emmanuel's Marketplace Fireball 4-Cylinder event, Jerry Kingeter utilized a bump and run maneuver to slip past Jeff DeGroat on his way to his second win to close down the curtain on an excellent night of racing.

Rich Ricci III and Scott Ferrier brought the Insinger Fuels Modified division starting field to the line for the start of the 30-lap headliner for the Modified division. The quick starting Ferrier would jump into the lead with the fourth starting Higbie rocking to the top of the raceway to move into the runner-up slot by lap four. Ferrier enjoyed a big lead early that evaporated quickly as Higbie made tracks to contend for the lead. A mad Scramble slowed the field and on the restart, Higbie moved his Handsome Devil BBQ mount out front and would wave goodbye to the rest of the field as his consistent 13.2 second laps allowed him to open up a huge advantage on the field.

Anthony Perrego would race hard from his tenth starting slot and move into second but by that point in time Higbie was already into slower traffic. Higbie would earn his first win of the season in a stellar performance with Perrego in the runner-up slot. Mike Ricci, from 18th starting position raced to third with Scott Ferrier fourth and Jesse Marks completing the top five. Richard Smith headed up the second five with Danny Tyler, Rich Ricci Jr, the returning Michael Storms and Ray See Jr completing the top ten.

John Brown was fast out of the blocks to kick-off the WRWD Radio Rookie sportsman event. A few jingles early on slowed the pace but on each restart Brown proved to have the hot hand as he continued to set the early pace. On lap six Travis Green got underneath Brown as they entered turn two with Brown going in too hot and getting sideways and allowing Green to take command of the event. Once in front Green had things pretty much his way with Cole Stangle mounting pressure to Green but Green was strong and captured the win with Stangle in the runner-up role. Charles Loiodice raced hard to third with Brown hanging on to fourth and Mike Travis completing the top five. Erin Paulison raced to sixth place with Joe Coppola, Fred Smith, Keith Johannessen and Michael Corbin completing the top ten.

The WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car finale found Andrew Davis leading the first four laps of the event before yielding to the high flying Jeremy Quick. Quick would build on to his lead but before he could settle in he began to find Mick D'Agostino on the charge as he would cut into Quick's lead and find the two warriors going nose to tail the remainder of the event. Quick was able to keep D'Agostino at bay and would go on to capture his first win of the season at Accord. D'Agostino was strong in second place with the Dan Malley third, newcomer Larry Drake fourth and Mark Conolly completing the top five.

The Arkel Motors Sportsman event was a barn-burner and head-turner from the drop of the green flag as Leo Fotopolous would take off with the green flag and built himself a substantial lead through the early portion of the event with Alex VanPelt in the runner-up role. Tenth starting Tyler Johnston was on the fly and used channel after channel of the speedway to race into contention. Hunter Lapp, Danny Morgiewicz and Kyle Rohner began a hard dogfight that would last until the checkered flag fell on the event. Fotopolous had more than power to hustle his way to his first career win at Accord. Johnston was the runner-up with Rohner third, Lapp in fourth and Morgiewicz fifth with great close racing start to finish. Kevin Stevens headed up the second five with Anthony Recchio from 16th, Mike Murphy from 22nd, RJ Smith and newcomer Troy Arnold completing the top ten.

In the holdover Upstate Auto Pure Stock event, Jay Smalley led through the first ten laps before losing the lead to Steve Williams in slower traffic. Williams would race on to the win with Smalley in second and followed by Travis Brockner, John Hechinger and Ray Tarantino.

Emerson Cargain led wire to wire in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock finale to capture his second win of the 2018 racing season. The win didn't come easy as John Hechinger and Steve Williams applied plenty of pressure on him as they would finish second and third respectively. Livy Johnson and Bob Sleight completed the top five. Travis Brockner, Johnny Miracle, Steve Kanuk, Ray Tarantino and James Goetchius completed the field.

In the Emmanuel's Marketplace Fireball 4-Cylinder encounter, Jerry Kingeter would lead the first eight laps until Jeff DeGroat slipped past him. DeGroat would lead through lap fourteen when Kingeter found some extra speed and oomph as he contacted with DeGroat and would drive away with the lead and the win, his second of the season. DeGroat was second followed by Willie DeGraw, Richard Smith and point leader Ryan Heady.

GEMSTONES:

The hotly contested racing action found seven features for the packed grandstands of loyal racing fans. Promoter Gary Palmer and crew worked overtime to have the track to top flight racing standards for the event.

Heat wins went to Ed Dachenhausen, Jesse Marks, Anthony Perrego and Scott Ferrier in the Modified division while Richie Eurich captured the B-Main. Alex VanPelt, Hunter Lapp and Chris VanDuser captured the Sportsman heats. Rookie heats were claimed by Charles Loiodice, John Brown and Mike Travis. The Pure Stock heats were claimed by Emerson Cargain and Livy Johnson. The lone Sprint heat win went to Jeremy Quick. Fireball heat wins were claimed by Ken Barringer, Jeff DeGroat and Jerry Kingeter

Thanks again to Uncle Mike Hansen and WRWD Radio for a wonderful night at the speedway. Uncle Mike and Announcer Steve Pados talked about the many activities WRWD Radio is involved with and of the great tie in with the Accord Speedway.

Many new faces were to be found at the speedway. Michael Storms and Jeff Heotzler were new additions to the Modifieds. Troy Arnold and Jared LaBagh were on hand for the Sportsman. The Rookies found new faces in Dylan Smith, Mike Bull, Pat Mann and Jared Miller hopped rides taking over the Davis Welding number 46. Larry Drake was a new Sprint car in action. Joel Murns, Cooper Henion and Wayne Taylor were new additions to the Pure Stockers. Bob Clarke and Adair DuBois were new faces for the Fireballers.

Former racer at Accord Tom Laner Jr is undergoing some health issues and management and staff at the speedway are praying for his recovery.

Accord, NY- Bachetti Overhauls VanDuser To Capture Exciting Accord Speedway Modified Win

What a difference a week makes as the cold weather might have gone to sleep for now and spring has finally sprung in New York State. Friday evening brought eighty degree weather to the Catskills but it also brought some of that rain stuff the racers and promoters dread. A rainstorm blew in and halted the action for over an hour but Promoter Gary Palmer was relentless as he and with the help of a caravan of race cars whipped the speedway back into shape and along with it produced another great night of racing. A couple of divisions did not get their features in and those races will be added on as time permits. The racing action was sponsored by Rapid Tire Service located in Montgomery, New York. Capturing wins on Friday at the speedway were "The Wild Child" Andy Bachetti in the Insinger Fuels Modifieds as he overhauled young Kyle VanDuser to capture the victory. "The Jersey Force" Anthony Recchio picked up his first win of the season in the Arkel Motors Sportsman. Bob Tersillo celebrated his second win succession on his sponsor's night in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Cars, and Brian Durbin captured his first win in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman. Mike Houghtaling took the road less traveled to come away the winner in the Northeast Vintage Modifieds as he nipped Darrell Hulbert to win yet another event at the speedway.

"Tommy Gun" Tommy Johnson and "The Concrete Kid" Kyle VanDuser brought the starting field to the green flag for the start of the 30-lap Modified headliner. VanDuser wasted no time in blasting to the front of the pack with Johnson and Anthony Perrego in hot pursuit. VanDuser was blasting off of the top of the raceway like a man possessed as he led the field lap after lap. Back in the field their were numerous battles for position and real estate but Andy Bachetti came a calling after starting from fourteenth position. Rich Ricci Jr hustled hard from tenth position and everyone on hand knew this was going to be a show-stopper to the finish. "Iron" Mike Ricci pulled up lame on turn two in lap ten bringing out the caution.

On the restart VanDuser glued himself back up to the top of the raceway and once again forged out front. He held the top spot when another caution for the disabled racer of Nick Johnson on lap-22. The restart had VanDuser back in control but with many drivers chasing him with their eyes on the prize. Ed Dachenhausen would break on lap-25. On the restart Bachetti tested low and then high and was able to drive by VanDuser on lap-27 and go on and capture the win. VanDuser ran a great race and was the runner-up with Perrego steady in third place Danny Creeden charging hard late to grab up fourth and Rich Ricci Jr finishing up the top five. The second five were Jerry Higbie, Randy Green from 13th, Scott Ferrier, Jimmy Wells who drove back through the filed after an earlier altercation and Richard Smith.

The Arkel Motors Sportsman feature headliner was a time-shortened event with Anthony Recchio leading all laps to capture his first win in the regular Sportsman division and doing it with a 2001 minted Bicknell race car. Recchio was in command all of the way. Tyler Johnston was the runner-up and he was getting stronger with each passing lap. Matt Shultz was third with Cole Hentschel fourth and Kevin Stevens rounding out the top five. The second five was headed up by Daniel Morgiewicz with Hunter Lapp, Leo Fotopolous, Chris VanDuser and Tony Kowalchuk completing the top ten.

The WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Cars found Bobby Tersillo up to the task once again as he grabbed up the lead on the opening lap and cruised to his second straight win at the speedway. Corey Wood was the runner-up in a strong outing with Mick D'Agostino in third, followed by Eric Jennings, Jeremy Quick, Heidi Hedin and Mark Connolly.

The WRWD Rookie Sportsman field was a good one and even though the event became time shortened the action was good throughout the pack. Winning his first ever Accord feature was Brian Durbin as he grabbed the lead in turn one and held the field at bay throughout the duration of the event. Charlie Loiodice was the runner-up with Travis Green, Joe Coppola and Mike Travis completing the top five. Samantha Muller recovered from an earlier spin and headed up the second five with Robbie Colburne, Amanda Carson, Fred Smith and Erin Paulison completing the top ten.

Darrell Hulbert lead the entire Vintage Modified race except for the final two turns as Mike Houghtaling saw Hulbert try to go underneath a slower car in turn three and Houghtaling decided to go high and the travel-line brought Houghtaling another Accord Speedway win. Hulbert was the runner-up with Ray See Sr, Mike Brown and Bob Harless finishing up the top five..

GEMSTONES:

Heat winners for the evening event included Matt Shultz, Anthony Recchio and Nick Plumstead in the Sportsman division. Pure Stock heats were won by Ray Tarantino and Travis Brockner. Three heats were needed to set the field for the Modified division with Richie Eurich, Kyle VanDuser and Jimmy Wells claiming wins. Bob Tersillo captured the lone heat in sprint car action that saw Jeremy Quick take a wild ride after hopping a wheel. Rookie Sportsman heats were claimed by Jared Miller and Brian Durbin.
Preliminary Fireball heats were claimed by Jeff DeGroat, Jerry Kingeter and Dave Donovan.

The speedway itself was in spectacular condition both times as Promoter Gary Palmer spent the entire week in working his magic grooming the multi-channeled raceway that saw three and four wide action throughout the evening of events.

Jim and Ginnie Douglas are celebrating their 55th Wedding Anniversary. Congratulations to the happy couple.

Best wishes go out to Kurt Cross as he will have knee surgery this coming Tuesday.

It was nice to see Former Miss Accord Speedway Erica Decker in attendance and she informed us she is planning her wedding coming up shortly.

Jim Silinski was also on hand. Jim is the orchestrator of the First Responders Night at the speedway.
