Sammons Scores Third While Pauch Jr. Wraps Up 2019 Title At New Egypt

New Egypt, NJ – Davey Sammons and Dakota Kessler led the 30-Lap Vahlco Wheels Modified feature to the green. Sammons would jump out the early lead and led the first six laps when Johnny Guarino, Cale Ross and Wade Hendrickson tangled in turn three. Sammons would jump back out to the lead on the ensuing restart with Kessler in tow. The second caution of the event would fly on lap ten when Kevin Vaclavicek, Dominick Buffalino and Blaine Bracelin got together in turn four. Sammons would again take command of the field on the restart. Brandon Grosso would take over the runner-up spot from Kessler after starting 10th on lap 13. The only slight hiccup that Sammons would have would be on lap 15 when his right side sail panel came loose and folded over which would not phase him one bit as he continued to set a torrid pace. Billy Pauch Jr. who started 12th would now be in the third position as him and Grosso battled for second while they chased after Sammons. 2018 track champion David VanHorn had now raced up from his 13th starting spot while him and Mike Butler put on a crowd-pleasing duel running side by side for the fourth position lap after lap toward the end of the event. They would all be no match for Sammons and he would lead wire-to-wire scoring his third Vahlco Wheels Modified main event of 2019 at New Egypt Speedway. Brandon Grosso would come home second with Billy Pauch Jr. third, David VanHorn fourth, and Mike Butler completing the top five.

“Two weeks ago we changed something on the car and had a motor issue, we got everything back in time for last week and found out we had a bent valve. So, we found something and it took us two weeks to run it. I drove as hard as I could. The track was really fun, I’ve won races where I had to run the bottom and it’s nice to win one where you have to get up on the wheel. We fought for this and we’re just happy to be here”, said Sammons post race.

After clinching the 2019 Vahlco Wheels Modified title the week prior, Billy Pauch Jr. was officially crowned champion this week, for Pauch Jr. it is his second championship in three years and four straight seasons where he hasn’t finished worse than second in points.

“It was a tough and challenging year, we really got going there. We really wanted to win tonight but hats off to Davey (Sammons), Our guys are awesome, this means a lot, I grew up here as a kid, we’ve had a good couple of years here and we have a lot of fun”, Pauch Jr. said following the race.

Brian Spencer picked up his second straight Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Car feature over Rich Mellor, Larry Drake, Duane Nixon and Heidi Hedin. With his second place finish Rich Mellor has clinched the 2019 Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Car championship.

Robbie Holzwarth scored his second Crate Modified win of 2019 and the second of his career over Ryan Heim, Sammy Martz Jr., Matt Miller and Johnny Bangs. The point battle is closer than ever with Joe Toth leading Johnny Bangs by just two points and Ryan Simmons 10 out of the lead in third heading into next week's final points race. The Crate Modified results are currently unofficial.

Rob Longo won the 15-lap feature for the Mike’s Performance Center 4-Cylinders over point leader Mike Fox, Joe Garey Sr., Dom Antonelli and Scott Dunn.

New Egypt Speedway is back in action next Saturday night when Hammer Electric presents Championship Night along with ¼ Midget Night. Former Champs Pauch Jr. & VanHorn Split Twin 20’s at New Egypt Speedway

(Aug. 31, 2019): 2017 track champion Billy Pauch Jr. of , Frenchtown, NJ won his fifth Vahlco Wheels Modified feature event of the season in the first feature, and 2018 track champ David VanHorn of Harmony, NJ took his fourth win of the season in the nightcap at New Egypt Speedway on Saturday night. For Pauch Jr. it was career win number 26, tying him for 4th on the all-time Modified win list with Keith Hoffman and Frank Cozze. VanHorn’s tenth career victory came in one of the most exciting feature events in track history, as he bested Mike Butler and Brandon Grosso in a torrid three car battle for the win.

In the first event, heat race winner TJ Lilly grabbed the initial lead ahead of PJ Oliver, Rich Rutski and Cale Ross. Lilly looked strong in the early going as Rutski took over the runner-up position. Rutski was persistent and finally wrestled the lead away from Lilly on lap 9, but this was short lived as PJ Oliver roared back to life and raced from 4th to the lead on a restart to lead at the halfway mark. Oliver began to stretch his lead as fifth starting Kevin Vaclavicek raced into second and 13th starting Billy Pauch Jr. was now third. Pauch Jr. wasted no time as he quickly charged into second and reeled in the leader. Lap 13 saw Pauch Jr. grab the lead before the caution flew for a tangle between top five runners Danny Bouc and Vaclavicek. The restart saw Pauch Jr. pull away with ease as he cruised to his third Modified victory this week. Ryan Krachun drove from his 9th starting spot to finish a very solid second, besting David VanHorn, Brandon Grosso and Rutski, who completed the top five. In victory lane, Pauch Jr chose the child holding the inversion number 11, meaning that the top 11 finishers would be inverted for the start of the second Twin 20.

Billy Osmun and Danny Bouc made up the front row for the second feature with Bouc racing out to the lead. Bouc quickly opened up a lead with the rest of the pack virtually on his heels racing 2, 3, and twice 4 wide for the top 12 positions in a wild and crowd pleasing battle. With positions changing radically on each passing lap in the top ten Bouc continued to lead each lap. Finally on lap 9 ground swell behind Bouc caught up to the leader as Mike Butler and three other cars passed him on both sides. Two-time winner Butler now had the lead at the halfway sign, but the pressure was relentless from behind as VanHorn and Brandon Grosso raced side by side on his back bumper. The following lap this duo caught the cushion riding Butler and brought the crowd to their feet as they raced under Butler to make it three-wide for the lead. Unknown to the crowd, they would stay on their feet for the remaining last half of the race, as VanHorn & Grosso would not give each other an inch, racing side by side around the speedway lap after lap, and pulling up under Butler to make it 3-abreast in every corner of the speedway. On lap 16 VanHorn showed that his relentless pounding on the bottom groove was paying off as he finally got the bite he was looking for off turn 2 and nosed ahead into turn three. Just as DVH grabbed the lead he got into a little fluid on the bottom of turn four forcing the car to push up the speedway as if he was diving into the pits directly in front of the leaders. VanHorn made an incredible save on the far outside of the track as Butler shot by with Grosso in tow. VanHorn had not only saved it, but was right on the back bumper of the leader down the frontstretch and tried to swing back under Butler, however Grosso was right there as well with the two making hard contact but immediately recovering and both picking up the chase once again. In one lap it was back to the three-wide battle again and as the white flag flew VanHorn grabbed the lead on the low side of turn 4. The final lap saw Butler and Grosso battling for second as VanHorn went on to capture the exciting 20 lap event. Butler came home second, Grosso third, followed by Billy Pauch Jr. and Cale Ross.

Steve Davis of Jackson, NJ was victorious in the Hammer Sportsman 20 lap feature event. Early race leader and new point leader Jim Housworth came home second. John Criscione, David Burns and last week’s winner Ryan Heim rounded out the top five.

The Larry’s Hot Rods and Harley’s NEWS Sprint cars saw a first time winner in victory lane, as Brian Spencer finally posted his first career win after being so close on so many occasions. Spencer got by race long leader Al Cheney, who was also looking for his first career win in a sprint car, and then held off point leader Rich Mellor for the victory. Cheney settled for third, trailed by Duane Nixon and Heidi Hedin.

Dom “the Bomb” Antonelli won his second straight Mike’s Performance 4-Cylinder 15 lap feature. Defending champ Joe Garey Sr. was second, Jim Avery third, Rob Longo fourth and Robby Dunn fifth.

This coming Saturday, Sept. 7th will be the John Romano Memorial 30 lap event for the Hammer Sportsman sponsored by 48Barriers.com along with G&M Dill Trucking and Amwell Auto Body. They will be joined by the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds, Crate Modifieds, and the Street Stocks. Many lap sponsorships and contingency bonuses including heat race $$ continue to come in for The John Romano Memorial event. Anyone interested in getting involved by sponsoring something for this event please contact Pete McDonald at the track office (609)-758-1900. Billy Pauch Jr. is “the Man” on Ladies Night at New Egypt

(Aug. 24, 2019): Billy Pauch Jr. of , Frenchtown, NJ won his fourth Vahlco Wheels Modified feature event of the season on Central Paint Ladies Night Saturday at New Egypt Speedway. The 2017 Modified champion & current point leader powered around race leader Cale Ross on lap 16 and went on to his first win at NES since June 26th.

“We finally got one!” quipped a visibly relieved Pauch Jr. in victory lane, “We had a very good car tonight. These past two weeks are probably the toughest I have ever had racing and I was really down on myself, but we pushed thru and I am really proud of this whole team. This was a much needed win”

Cale Ross, who ran away and hid in his heat race victory, looked to repeat that performance at the start of the 30 lap feature event. Ross with Blaine Bracelin in tow pulled away from the rest of the field when the yellow was quickly displayed with two laps in the books when Kevin Vaclavicek spun in turn 3 and Tuesday night’s winner David Van Horn slammed into him. Despite the heavy contact, both cars were able to rejoin at the back of the pack for the restart which saw Pauch Jr. already up to 6th from his 10th starting slot. Ross again dominated the restart as Bracelin gave chase and Pauch Jr. battled with hard charger Danny Bouc as the duo sliced thru the pack. Pauch Jr. won this battle and quickly caught and passed Bracelin for second on lap 7 and then set his sights on Ross, who was 10 car lengths out in front. Pauch began to pound the outside of the race track as he tracked down and was the bumper of the leader by lap 12. Pauch appeared ready to fly by the leader, however Ross had found grip on the very bottom groove of the track and would power back past the point leader on every turn. Ross thwarted Pauch’s attempts to pass at every turn for 4 consecutive laps, until lap 16 when Pauch drove the car in deep into turn 3 and powered around the leader in turn 4. Ross moved up to the outside and kept up the torrid pace just five lengths back over the remaining distance. Some brief hope came in the form of lapped traffic in the final 5 laps, but Pauch Jr. handled it like the champion he is and went on to his 25th career Modified win at New Egypt Speedway. Modified rookie Ross continued to impress with yet another strong run for second. Bracelin posted his best finish ever at NES in third. David VanHorn rallied back from that lap 2 tangle to finish 4th and Davey Sammons rounded out the top five.

Ryan Heim of Parkertown, NJ won his first career feature in the Hammer Sportsman 20 lap event. Heim took command on lap 4 and led the remaining distance holding off a late race charge by Jim Housworth and Steve Davis, who finished second and third respectively. JT Trstensky and Art Liedl rounded out the top five.

The Crate Modifieds also saw a first time winner in victory lane, for the seventh time this season, as Kevin Borden Jr. outpaced rookie Nick Van Wickle over the 20 lap distance. Veteran racer Steve Hicks came home third, followed by point leader Ryan Simmons fourth and Howie Finch in fifth.

Billy Liedtka scored his fifth win and 31st of his career in the 15 lap Street Stock victory. Liedtka held off Mick Search & Brian Spencer for the popular victory.

The Central Paint Ladies night Powder Puff race winners were Daralynne McCaughey (Sportsman) & Ashley Wroble (Street Stocks).

Next week Sat. night August 31st, it is New Egypt Speedway’s annual Labor Day weekend double dip, with Twin 20 lap features for the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds. Also on the card will be the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harleys NEWS Sprint Cars, the Hammer Sportsman and the Mike’s Performance Center 4-cylinders. Gates will open at 5pm, with warm-ups at 6pm and the first race starting at 7pm.

Reminder, Sept. 7th will be the John Romano Memorial 30 lap event for the Hammer Sportsman sponsored by www.48Barriers.com along with G&M Dill Trucking and Amwell Auto Body. Lap sponsorships and contingency bonuses continue to come in for this must see event. New Egypt, NJ (August 11, 2019) – On Toms River Night at New Egypt Speedway, Mike Butler registered his second Vahlco Wheels Modified feature win of the year. The Delaware Auto Exchange Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series main event went to Tim Tanner Jr. John Criscione was the victor in the Hammer Sportsman feature. Brian Spencer topped the field in the Street Stock race.

As the 30-lap feature began for the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds, Billy Osmun grabbed the lead with Cale Ross, Pat Wall, Rich Rutski and Blaine Bracelin next in line. By the third circuit and just before the first yellow flag waved for a multi-car tangle, Wall passed Ross for second with eighth place starting Mike Butler advancing into fifth. On the ensuing restart, Osmun maintained his edge with Butler motoring to the runner-up spot. Following another caution period on the fourth tour, Butler bolted to the front as action resumed with Wall in second and Osmun in third. Just as action was beginning to heat up on the fifth lap, Dakota Kessler’s ride came to a stop near the pit entrance and the yellow lights illuminated for the final time. When green flag racing returned, Butler fended off Wall to keep the lead with Osmun running in third. At the halfway point of the contest, Butler was increasing his margin over Wall and Osmun with Ryan Krachun in fourth and Danny Bouc in fifth. On lap sixteen, Bouc slipped by Krachun to move into fourth. With ten circuits left, the top two of Butler and Wall had pulled away from their rivals with Butler having a comfortable advantage. Over the final moments of the contest, Butler went unchallenged as he scored his second career Vahlco Wheels Modified feature win. Wall’s strong run netted him second place. With Osmun finishing third, Bouc came home in fourth after starting eleventh. Fifth place was claimed by Krachun. The winners in the Vahlco Wheels Modified heat races were Blaine Bracelin and Cale Ross.

In the 20-lap main event for the Delaware Auto Exchange Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series, Tim Tanner Jr. powered by Tyler Brehm on a lap six restart to take his second checkered flag of the season. With Brehm finishing second, Mark Bitner completed the race in third. Eddie Wagner’s last lap pass earned him fourth place over Ricky DiEva. Jason Dunn and Mark Bitner won the Delaware Auto Exchange Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series qualifying events.

John Criscione led from start to finish to win the non-stop 20-lap Hammer Sportsman feature. The victory was the first for Criscione in the division.
