NAPA AUTO PARTS CELEBRATES 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES AT GRANDVIEW. . . . . .

CHRISTOPHER BELL POCKETS $10,000, JEFF STRUNK WINS MOD THRILLER AS GRANDVIEW DEFEATS MOTHER NATURE TUESDAY NIGHT, JULY 2

BECHTELSVILLE, PA (July 2, 2019) – Mother Nature offered a reprieve to race fans Tuesday Night at Grandview Speedway, providing just enough clear weather for Norman, Oklahoma’s Christopher Bell to claim the 410 Sprint Car main event, while Boyertown, Pennsylvania’s Jeff Strunk scored the win in the Modified portion of the double-header event. A big crowd turned out for the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill event attracting a field of thirty 410 sprint cars and thirty-eight modifieds. The battles were plentiful all night but the biggest story was how the Grandview Speedway track crew fought back after a thunder stormed drenched the speedway surface. The outstanding work by the track crew with help from the modifieds quickly returned the speedway back into race ready conditions after a one hour and fifteen minute rain delay. As the checker flag fell on the modified feature, the rain once again began to fall, but the show in its entirety was presented.

Bell used up every inch of the racetrack on his way to a $10,000 payday as part of Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek. This was Bells first ever Thunder on the Hill Racing Series victory.

“I had a hard time figuring out where the car worked best, I just kept moving around,” Bell explained in post-race victory lane ceremonies. “I almost crashed a couple of times.”

Pole-sitter Lucas Wolfe and Bell raced down to the drop of the green, but action slowed quickly for a six-car tangle that sidelined Pennsylvania Speedweek point leader, Freddie Rahmer.

Bell didn’t bat an eye on the ensuing restart racing around Wolfe and disappearing from the competition – a man on a mission, Bell encountered lapped traffic on the 8th circuit dodging slower cars with his sight set on the winner’s purse.

James McFadden, aboard the Kasey Kahne Racing No. 9 machine, slid passed Wolfe on the 12th lap and it didn’t take long for him to rope in Bell and challenge for the lead. The red flag flew just prior to the halfway when Jessie Attard got upside down in turn three.

Bell had his hands full on the restart with McFadden and Lance Dewease right on his rear bumper.

“I struggled just passed halfway, I used every inch of the race track and tried to block those guys behind me,” Bell explained.

McFadden would make one last-ditch effort for the victory, but ultimately settled for second, Lance Dewease finished in third, Lucas Wolfe in fourth, and past Thunder Cup winner Aaron Reutzel finished in fifth.

Christopher Bell’s sweep included the Quick Time with a lap of 11.617. Heat Races were won by Aaron Reutzel, Lucas Wolfe, Danny Dietrich, and Kyle Reinhardt. Mark Smith scored the win in the B-Main.

Brett Kressley and Mike Gular started on the front row of the NASCAR 358 Modified feature event, with Gular gaining control of the top spot. Gular dominated the first half of the 30-lap event clicking laps off with a strong contingent of Modified drivers behind him.

The top three competitors were door-to-door in the closing portion of the event, with Gular, Kressley, and Strunk all moving to the point in a single lap. Strunk would score the upper hand threading three-wide between Gular and Kressley.

Strunk led the final ten laps of the feature event with Kressley well within striking distance and riding the rear bumper of #126 on the final lap. Kressley rolled home in second, Mike Gular finished in third, Craig VonDohren in fourth, and Duane Howard rounding out the top five. Kressley worked his way to victory lane, but this time to congratulate the great run by Strunk. The thirty lap modified win was worth $3,000.

NASCAR Modified Heat Races were won by Don Norris, Jr., Steve Young, Brett Kressley, and Ryan Watt. Consolations were won by Craig Whitmoyer and Glenn Strunk.

Rain delayed the start of the event with 410 Sprint Car Time Trials finally rolling off at 8:45 PM, the rain fell again at the drop of the checkered flag.

The 30th Anniversary season of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series continues on Tuesday, July 30 at Grandview Speedway with the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship event dubbed Ken Brenn Midget Masters. NASCAR 358 Modifieds are also on the card.

NAPA AUTO PARTS PRESENTS. . . . . .

ALAN KRIMES, THE RAHMER BROTHERS, LUCAS WOLFE & T.J. STUTTS EYE THE $10,000 PRIZE AT THUNDER ON THE HILL TUESDAY NIGHT, JULY 2 AT GRANDVIEW

BECHTELSVILLE, PA JUNE 23, 2019 . . . . . . . . . . . There is a big prize on the line Tuesday night, July 2 at the Grandview Speedway when the Pennsylvania 410 Sprint Car Speed Week Series invades “the hill”. It’s all part of the 30th Anniversary season for the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series and $10,000 will go to the winner of the 35 lap 410 sprint car feature event. Making this event even bigger, the 358 NASCAR Modifieds will be on the program with $3,000 going to the winner of the 30 lap modified feature. In the 2018 running of this event, NASCAR star Kyle Larson won the sprint feature as Jeff Strunk won the modified feature after starting last in the field of twenty-four cars.

The 410 sprints always attract the cream of the crop. Alan Krimes will be in the field looking for his first Thunder victory. A few years back, Krimes was in the perfect spot to score the win but a flat tire denied him of a visit to victory lane. Lucas Wolfe is an early entry as well. Wolfe was the 2007 Thunder on the Hill Champion but has not won a Thunder on the Hill feature as yet. Lucas wants to change that Tuesday night, July 2. The Rahmer Brothers, Freddie and Brandon are pre-entered and ready for Grandview. Their father Fred is a nine time Thunder on the Hill feature winner, Freddie won the All Star event in 2017 and Brandon hopes to add his name to the Thunder on the Hill winners list.

And along came T.J. Stutts. A few years back, Stutts set fast for the night and was a contender for the win when mechanical problems sidelined him from action. Stutts knows the fast way around Grandview and is always considered a contender to collect the $10,000 pay day.

The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series will also showcase the 358 NASCAR Modifieds on Tuesday night, July 2. Ryan Watt was the winner of the last two Modified Thunder events and he’ll be looking for three in a row. Craig VonDohren, Duane Howard, Jeff Strunk and Ryan Godown are expected to chase the $3,000 to win 30 lap modified feature.

On Tuesday night, July 2 gates will open at 5 PM with warm-ups at 6:45 PM. The 410 sprint cars will open the show with time trials followed by the 358 modified and 410 sprint qualifying. This will all lead up to the $10,000 to win 35 lap Speed Week Sprint car feature event and the 30 lap Modified feature.

THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES

WHERE IS BRADY BACON WITH THREE LAPS TO GO?

AMSOIL USAC EASTERN STORM TO BE PART OF NAPA AUTO PARTS THUNDER ON THE HILL SERIES OPENER AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY TUESDAY NIGHT, JUNE 11

BECHTELSVILLE, PA JUNE 9, 2019 . . . . . . . Where oh where will Brady Bacon be with three laps to go?

At the previous two AMSOIL USAC Sprint Eastern Storm events at the Grandview Speedway, Broken Arrow, OK driver Brady Bacon was in the right place at the right time. Bacon, the defending winner of the last two Jesse Hockett Classic events took the lead with just three laps to go in both 40 lap feature events. This Tuesday night, Brady Bacon will attempt the “hat trick” of three wins in a row on the “hill”. This year the Jesse Hockett Classic will pay $10,000 to win so Bacon just may be racing a little harder to get that lead position a little earlier in chase of the biggest payoff of the 13th Annual Eastern Storm.

The AMSOIL USAC sprints will bring a field of talent to the “hill” in chase of the $10,000 to win 40 lap Jesse Hockett Classic. Also on the card will be the NASCAR Modifieds chasing a $3,000 payday for the win in their 30 lap feature. The USAC Sprints will open the show with time trials and a series of qualifying events followed by the Modifieds that will take part in qualifying heats and a consolation. Gates open at 5 PM with qualifying getting underway at 7:30 PM.

Advance tickets may be ordered for the Tuesday, June 11 USAC Sprints & Modified show by calling 443 513 4456. Please speak slowly and clearly when leaving a message and be sure to provide your name and number of tickets you will need. Tickets may be paid for and picked up at the WILL CALL Window on race night after 3:30 PM. Advance ticket holders may entitle you to enter the grandstands at 4:30. Adult admission tickets are $30, children 6 to 11 $10 and children five and under will be admitted for free. Advance tickets may be order until 9:00 AM on Tuesday, June 11. General admission tickets will go on sale at 5 PM at the Grandview Speedway.

Be sure to come out early and be part of the Low, Down & Dirty pre-race activities taking place at the main gate at Grandview Speedway from 5 PM to 6 PM. You’ll have a chance to meet and greet USAC drivers Robert “The Madman” Ballou, Issac Chapple, Timmy Buckwalter and Joey Biasi. The crew of Low, Down & Dirty always ask drivers “the right questions”, far different then the normal interview. You’ll get a great feel for who these drivers really are. In addition, an Eastern Storm Autograph Card will be available at the Meet & Greet Free of Charge thanks to Racing Fans Worldwide. Be sure to inquire about the benefits of Racing Fans Worldwide. For a minimal membership free you’ll enjoy discounts on rental cars, Delta Airline tickets, other travel and hotel discounts, plus much, much more. Visit their website for more details; racingfansworldwide@outlook.com

See cars and representatives from the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing (EMMR) at Grandview on Tuesday night. The EMMR will have at least two restored Weikert Livestock sprint cars on hand and you are invited to meet the folks from the museum and chat about racings past memories. The EMMR will be located in the first turn grandstand area from 5 to 7 PM with interviews going on from 6 PM to 6:45 PM. Enjoy the memories and become a member of the EMMR and help preserve racing history.

The AMSOIL USAC non-wing sprints come east just once a year and this show at Grandview Speedway is a must see event. These guys make even the time trials exciting, as they bicycle, pull wheelies and send roaster-tails flying high in sky, and that’s with just one car at a time on the race track. The heat races earn the drivers their ticket to start the 40 lap $10,000 to win Jesse Hockett Classic. When the green flag drops in the feature, you won’t know where to watch as the field of twenty-two cars race three abreast, pull off slide jobs, take part in some wheel banging and yes, run countless laps with their rear bumpers inches from the outside boiler-plate. You’ll see all this on the one-third mile high-banked Grandview Speedway on Tuesday night, June 11.

13TH ANNUAL USAC EASTERN STORM

THERE’S A STORM HEADING EAST. . . . . . . . . ..

USAC AMSOIL SPRINT CAR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP EASTERN STORM OPENS AT GRANDVIEW TUESDAY NIGHT, JUNE 11, $10,000 TO WIN JESSE HOCKETT CLASSIC

BECHTELSVILLE, PA . . . . .Rain and bad weather has not been a friend to local short track racing of late, but all race fans welcome and look forward to this storm, the thirteenth annual EASTERN STORM for the USAC AMSOIL Non-Wing Sprint Cars, and it’s coming to the Grandview Speedway on Tuesday night, June 11 with the $10,000 to win Jesse Hockett Classic. The NASCAR 358 Modifieds will be part of this big doubleheader with qualifying events leading up to the 30 lap, $3,000 to win feature even.

This wildly popular traveling series comes east just one time a year and this show is one you just can’t miss. Watch the non-wing sprints slide and glide around the one-third mile high banked Grandview Speedway and you’ll see some wheel banging, rooster tails and wheelies. And that’s just warm-ups.

For the thirteenth consecutive year, the USAC AMSOIL Non Wing Sprint Car National Championship returns East with stops at the Grandview Speedway, Bridgeport Speedway, BAPS Motor Speedway, Port Royal and Weedsport Speedway’s. The five race swing, in keeping with tradition will open with the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill signature event at the Grandview Speedway. The Tuesday night, June 11 show will boast the USAC $10,000 to win Jesse Hockett Classic joined by the 358 NASCAR Modifieds with racing getting underway at 7:30 PM. This year also marks the 30th Anniversary of the Thunder on the Hill Racing Series.

Wednesday night, June 12 the Bridgeport Speedway will present the USAC AMSOIL Non-Wing sprints in a double header with the 600 micros, Thursday night, June 13 the tour moves to the BAP’S Speedway joined by the 360 Sprints and Super Sportsman. Saturday night, June 15 the traveling non-wing racers invade the Port Royal Speedway before closing out the swing at the popular Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, NY on Sunday night, June 16. Defending USAC Eastern Storm Champion Chris Windom is already planning his trip East.

USAC brings a long and rich history especially to Berks County. USAC first raced in Berks County at the Reading Fairgrounds in 1956 and it was Oley, PA driver Tommy Hinnershitz who won the first three USAC events on the Reading half-mile. The USAC/Berks County tradition continued until April 1979 when Paul Pitzer took the win at what would be the final USAC event at the Reading Fairgrounds.

Grandview Track Owner Bruce Rogers and Thunder on the Hills’ Bob Miller made several attempts to bring 410 non-wing sprint cars back to Berks County, presenting CRA and SCRA events in the 1990’s . After many discussions, a deal was worked out and in June 2007, USAC made the trip to Grandview and it was Levi Jones who took the win in a historic USAC return to Berks County. Now in 2019, the Eastern Storm will mark its’ thirteenth tour to the East, opening on the famed “hill” of Grandview Speedway.

Drivers from all over the country will gather on the “hill” Tuesday night, June 11 for the 40 lap Jesse Hockett Classic and the roster will include Chris Windom, Justin Grant, C.J. Leary, Brady Bacon, Chase Stockon, Justin Grant, Tyler Courtney and Robert Ballou.

The Berks County one-third mile high banked Grandview Speedway is just the perfect setting for a USAC National Non-Win Championship event. USAC time trials at Grandview are usually more exciting than the main divisions elsewhere, so don’t miss time trials.

Advance tickets may be ordered for the Tuesday, June 11 USAC Sprints & Modified show by calling 443 513 4456. Please speak slowly and clearly when leaving a message and be sure to leave your name and number of tickets you will need. Feel free to leave your phone number as well. Tickets may be paid for and picked up at the WILL CALL Window on race night after 3:30 PM. These tickets will entitle you to enter the grandstands at 4:30. Adult admission tickets are $30, children 6 to 11 $10 and children five and under will be admitted for free.

Start planning now for the 13th Annual Eastern Swing, Tuesday night, June 11 to Sunday night, June 16.
