ELLIOTT AND HOWARD LEAD THE ENTRANT LIST FOR BRIDGEPORT’S CHARLIE BRAY MEMORIAL ON NOVEMBER 19 AND 20
BRIDGEPORT, NJ (November 11, 2011) - With a chance at one more checkered flag before winter arrives, many top names in dirt racing including Ricky Elliott and Duane Howard are getting ready for the Charlie Bray Memorial Race on November 19 and 20 at Bridgeport Speedway. This season finale at the Gloucester County complex in New Jersey honors the late Nazareth Speedway Promoter and Bridgeport Speedway Official, who passed away suddenly on December, 8, 2008.
Activity for the two day event gets started on Saturday, November 19 with qualifying and a 25-lap $3000-to-win feature for the Super Late Models. Elliott headlines the Super Late Model field that is expected to include Kenny Pettyjohn, Donnie Lingo, Dale Lingo, Staci Warrington, Al Cheney, Lou Johnson and a host of others. Rick Eckert, the 2011 World of Outlaw Late Model Champion, has expressed interest in attending this event and will confirm his status shortly. Also on Saturday, the Bridgeport Modifieds will have heat races for Sunday’s 25-lap main event. In addition, the previously postponed $2500-to-win 25-lap Bridgeport Modified feature from the Wingate Classic will occur. Plus, the open Modifieds will do battle on the quarter mile track with qualifying contests and a 25-lap main event paying $1000 to the victor. The day closes out with an Allied Recycling Demolition Derby.
On Sunday, November 20, the Big Block Modifieds return to the big 5/8th mile dirt track with heat races being held prior to the $3000-to-win 25-lap feature. Howard leads a star studded field of Big Block Modified competitors which should include Ryan Watt, Rick Laubach, Richie Pratt, Jr., Craig Von Dohren, Mike Barone, Mike Franz, Billy Pauch, Jr., and many others. After Saturday’s qualifying, a 25-lap Bridgeport Modified feature occurs with a potential of $1200 going to the winner if more than 30 cars attempt to compete. The Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stocks will honor the late Marty Kulesza with the Fallen Friend Fifteen race. Kulesza, a co-owner of Proformance Cuts, passed away suddenly on October 25. Completing the program will be the TSRS Sprint Cars and Vintage Stocks. All of Sunday’s racing will be conducted on the outer oval.
On Saturday November 19, competitors can begin to enter the pit area at 10:00 a.m. with the spectator turnstiles opening at 11:00 a.m. Hot laps get underway at noon with racing slated to start shortly afterwards.
On Sunday November 20, all gates open at 10:00 a.m. A pre-race pit party for all classes and driver re-draw is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. at the pavilion behind the main grandstand. An extra treat is in store for fans as Sunday’s meeting for drivers will be held at the grandstand pavilion. Warm-ups hit the track at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday with racing starting afterwards.
A 2-day general admission pass may be purchased for $45 and a single day grandstand ticket can be secured for $25. Kids 12 and under are admitted for free to the grandstand. Plenty of giveaways are planned for this event as well. A 2-day pit admission pass is available for $60 and a single day wristband to the pits can be purchased for $40. No pit license is required for the Charlie Bray Memorial event.
The rules for this race weekend have been simplified. Any legal 13 x 92 Modified tire can be used for competition in the Big Block Modified, open Modified and Bridgeport Modified divisions on this weekend. No weight rule will be in force for Saturday’s open Modified event on the quarter mile and sail panels are permitted.
For Sunday’s Big Block Modified race, any Big Diamond/Grandview legal 358 Small Block or DIRT legal 358 Small Block must weigh a minimum of 2350 pounds to compete in the Big Block Modified division. Legal 467 Big Block Motors and any Big Small Block engines must weigh 2500.
