THE EASTERN STORMS OPENS. . . . . .

CHASE STOCKON WINS JESSE HOCKETT CLASSIC AS TIM BUCKWALTER TAKES ARDC WIN TUESDAY NIGHT IN NAPA AUTO PARTS THUNDER ON THE HILL EVENT

Chase Stockon of Elizabethtown, IN was the class of the field as the 8th Annual USAC Eastern Storm opened Tuesday night at the Grandview Speedway. Stockon earned $6,000 for the win in the 40 lap Jesse Hockett Classic, an event run in the memory of the “Rocket Man” Jesse Hockett who lost his life in a garage accident. This was the one-hundred and eleventh NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series event presented by Window World, Pioneer Pole Buildings and GALCO Business Communications. Tim Buckwalter came hone the winner of the twenty-five lap ARDC feature. The event ran against high odds of bad weather, with at least two rain delays through the night. An electrical issue required some down time during one of the rain delays as well. A big crowd was on hand despite the bad weather throughout the area.

The Amsoil USAC sprints competed in time trials with fast time of the night going to Tracy Hines with a time of 13. 776. USAC heat race events were won by Brady Bacon, Robert Ballou and Hunter Schuerenberg as Landon Simon won the “B” main.

In the forty lap Jesse Hockett Classic, Chase Stockon was the leader at the drop of the green flag with Jon Stanbrough and Justin Grant in the chase. Grant made several challenges at Stanbrough for second on laps 6-8 with Stanbrough retaining a solid hold on second.

Stanbrough then closed the gap on Stockon but never offered a challenge for the lead. Justin Grant, Dave Darland and Brady Bacon were not mixing it up for third with Darland taking a hold on third on lap eleven. A light mist began to fall on lap fifteen but that never stopped the three wide racing throughout the field. Then on lap twenty-one, the yellow flag was displayed due to the amount of ran now accumulating on the speedway. The USAC sprint cars were sent to the pits. At the same time, an electrical issue developed with the track lights, so the electrician and maintenance team used the rain delay as an opportunity to make electrical repairs.

After a thirty minute delay, the USAC sprints returned to the speedway with twenty-one laps in the book. The recently fallen rain made the track super fast and Chase Stockon just checked out from the rest of the field when green flag racing resumed.

Jon Stanbrough immediately went on the defense as Dave Darland took a run at the runner-up spot. Justin Grant and Brady Bacon reeled in Darland and Stanbrough as there was a four car race for second with Stockon holding a comfortable lead.

In the closing laps, Stockon was working his way masterfully around the slower traffic as Stanbrough came up short to challenge for the win. Dave Darland finished third with Justin Grant fourth and Brady Bacon fifth.

A field of twenty-nine ARDC Midgets took part in the program with heat race victories going to Trevor Kobylarz, Ryan Greth and Bruce Buckwalter as Danny Straton won the “B” Main.

In the twenty-five lap feature, Trevor Kobylarz led the first four laps with Tim Buckwalter taking the top spot on lap five. Kobylarz fought to take back the lead but gave up the runner spot to Bruce Buckwalter Jr.

At the halfway mark, Tim Buckwatler was the leader over Bruce Buckwalter, Brett Arndt, Steve Buckwalter and Billy Pauch Jr.

By lap seventeen, Bill Pauch was third and closing on Brett Arndt. With the five laps to go sign showing, Pauch moved into second. Pauch ran short of time and settled for the runner –up spot at Tim Buckwalter took the win. Making up the top five were Steven Buckwalter, Brett Arndt and Steven Drevicki.

8th Annual AMSOIL USAC EASTERN STORM

NAPA AUTO PARTS THUNDER ON THE HILL CONTINUES WITH JESSE HOCKETT CLASSIC presented by WINDOW WORLD

THE SHOW OF ALL SHOW’S. . . . TAKE OFF THE WINGS, STAND ON THE THROTTLE, HERE THEY COME. . .USAC NON-WING SPRINTS AT GRANDVIEW TUESDAY JUNE 3RD

If you have never seen a non-wing sprint car race, you don’t know what you’re missing.

So plan to be at the Grandview Speedway Tuesday night, June 3 when the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series continues with the Jesse Hockett Classic for the USAC non-wing sprint cars and ARDC non-wing midgets presented by Window World. Race time is 7:30 PM.

The nation’s best non-wing sprint car drivers from around the county will gather on the “hill” Tuesday night. Drivers like Jarrett Andretti of Indianapolis, IN, Shane Cottle of Kokomo, IN, the “ Modern Day Cowboy” Daron Clayton of Sikeston, MO, Dave Darland, Lincoln, IN, Tracy Hines of New Castle, IN, Kevin Thomas, Jr. of Cullman, AL, Robert Ballou of Rocklin, CA, Nathan Moore of Tyler, TX, Chad Boespflug of Hanford, CA and Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow, OK are some of the expected entries. Look for ARDC defending champion Trevor Kobylarz of Birdsboro, PA to make his initial non-wing sprint car outing at Grandview and some other locals to include Billy Pauch Jr and Central PA driver Mark Smith.

Non-wing sprint car racing is not for the “faint of heart”. This is as extreme as dirt track racing gets.

In many forms of racing, time trials can be a yawner, but not when the USAC cars take to Grandview Speedway. Some say, USAC time trials along are worth the price of admission. Well, have no fear, there is much more to the show then just time trials.

These non-wing sprint car drivers use the outside boiler-plate as a way to slow down. There is always wheel rubbing, countless slide-jobs and racing in a pack is just the norm. In the 2013 running of the Jesse Hockett Classic, Daron Clayton did it all to win the $6,000 first place prize. In a three car battle for the win, Clayton, Levi Jones and Bryan Clauson were on the inside berm, glazing the boiler-plate and offered a three car battle for the lead for the final fifteen laps. Daron Clayton may have failed trying to move the outside boiler-plate at Grandview, but he did win the prestigious event.

Gates will open at 5 PM and for advance ticket holders, you may enter the grandstands at 4:30 PM. Warm-ups will begin at 6:45 with time trials getting underway at 7:30 PM.

USAC time trials, heat races and the 40 lap Jesse Hockett Classic are on the program along with the ARDC non-wing midgets, competing in a series of heat races all leading up to a 25 lap feature event. On May 25 at Grandview, ARDC put on the best show of the night, with Alex Bright taking the win in the non-stop 25 lap feature with Bright starting twenty-first. . . It was an awesome race!

The popular pre-race pit tours introduced at the May 25 Thunder on the Hill event will be offered on Tuesday night as well as the Inside/Out Promotion where fans may watch the warm-ups from inside turn four. What a treat with USAC on the hill.

And don’t forget to welcome our newest sponsor, Window World, America’s largest home improvement company. Window World of Lehigh Valley is your local specialist to help you with your window, vinyl siding, entry door or patio door needs. They can be reached at 610-432-6878, online at www.WindowWorldAllentown.com or at their show room 5925 Tilghman St, Allentown, PA 18104.

Following Grandview, the AMSOIL USAC Eastern Swing will include stops at the Lincoln Speedway Wednesday, June 4, New Egypt Speedway, Thursday, June 5, Port Royal on Saturday, June 7 with the finale set for Sunday, June 8 at the Susquehanna Speedway.

Window World of the Lehigh Valley presents. . . . . . .

NAPA AUTO PARTS THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES WELCOMES THE USAC NON-WING EASTERN STORM, OPENING AT GRANDVIEW TUESDAY, JUNE 3

ANDRETTI NAME RETURNS TO DIRT TRACK RACING IN PENNSYLVANIA AS THE MODERN DAY COWBOY DARON CLAYTON IS BACK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN

There’s a storm heading east.

The AMSOIL USAC Eastern Storm will make their first stop at the Grandview Speedway on Tuesday night, June 3 in an event presented by Window World of the Lehigh Valley. The 8th Annual AMSOIL Eastern Storm will showcase the USAC National Non-Wing sprint cars in a five race east coast swing that will open as part of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series as Grandview.

This event, labeled the Jesse Hockett Classic will remember one of the all-time great sprint car drivers who lost his life in a freak garage accident in 2010. In the 2009 running of the Amsoil Eastern Storm, Jesse Hockett won two USAC sprint car features in the same night at Grandview, an exciting and memorable night for this popular sprint car icon.

Andretti, one of the most popular names in auto racing will echo at Grandview Speedway Tuesday night, June 3 as Jarrett Andretti of Indianapolis, IN will make his first start ever at Grandview. At age twenty-one, Andretti is a member and weekly competitor with USAC and sponsored by Window World. “I have always heard great things about Grandview Speedway and appreciate their support of the USAC Sprint Car Series. The larger Pennsylvania tracks, Grandview included, are really able to show fans what the cars are capable of and give us a break from the Indiana bullrings. I am looking forward to my first trip to PA and thankful for USAC and all the tracks for making it all possible, “ said Andretti.

The Staff of Thunder on the Hill welcomes Window World to their roster of sponsors. Window World is America’s largest home improvement company. Window World of Lehigh Valley is your local specialist to help you with your window, vinyl siding, entry door or patio door needs. They can be reached at 610-432-6878, online at www.WindowWorldAllentown.com or at their show room 5925 Tilghman St, Allentown, PA 18104.

The Tuesday night, June 3rd event on the Hill will also include the ARDC Non-wing sprint cars and no doubt, Alex Bright will be in the field. Bright thrilled the race fans at the Grandview Speedway on Sunday night, after starting twenty-first and winning the non-stop 25 lap ARDC feature event. Gates will open at 5 PM with race time set for 7:30 PM.

Fans who attended the 2013 Grandview USAC show will remember the “Modern Day Cowboy Daron Clayton”, the eventual winner of the 2013 40 lap Jesse Hockett Classic. Lap after lap, Clayton grazed the outside boiler plate as Levi Jones and Bryan Clauson thrilled the fans with a fifteen lap, three car battle for the win. Clayton of Sikeston, MO is a pre-entry for this years’ Eastern Storm. Dave Darland of Lincoln, IN, Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow, OK, Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, IN, Chris Windom, Canton, IL and Tracy Hines are a few of the pre-entries.

If you have never seen a non-wing sprint car race, you can’t miss the Eastern Storm. Side-by-side is the norm, a little wheel-banging, a slide job or two and drivers using the outside boiler plate to stay in bounds is just part of the show.

On Wednesday night, June 4, the USAC non-wing sprints will head to the Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, PA for a sensational double-header to include the Rislone URC 358/360 winged sprint challenge. Wow, the best of both all in one night, winged and non-wing sprints in a huge double-header on Wednesday night. In the history of both organizations, this is the first time ever both USAC and URC are brought together on the same racing program. Race time is set for 7:30 PM.

Then on Thursday night, the USAC sprints make a return visit to the New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, NJ on Thursday night ,June 5. USAC and ARDC will team up for this double-header that is sure to please the New Jersey based crowd.

The Eastern Storm also has stops at the Port Royal Speedway on Saturday night, June 7 followed by a Sunday night stop at the Susquehanna Speedway.

In fact, this could be URC’s biggest season of change, joined by a welcome statement of, “Come one, Come All”. The transformation of URC is one of inclusion, to continue to bring together new drivers and race teams, different venues and a “new deal” for 2014.

To drop the green flag early on 2014, the Rislone URC Sprint Series boasts a schedule of twenty-four race dates with two additional events still in negotiations. URC’s “Super Series” will offer nine events taking place in Central Pennsylvania, with six visits to the Selinsgrove Speedway and three stops at the Williams Grove Speedway. Special events include the $3,500 to win Jack Gunn Memorial at Selinsgrove on Saturday night, May 10, the 9th running of the $4,000 to win Rislone Nationals at Williams Grove on Friday night, August 1st followed by the 1st running of the Kramer Cup, to be run in memory of Kramer Williamson on Saturday night, August 9 at Selinsgrove. URC will again co-sanction the $8,000 to win 14th Annual Mach1 Chassis National Open at Selinsgrove on Saturday night, September 27.

URC’s “new deal” with an invite of “Come One, Come All” to the competitors will offer the following upgrades.

* Rislone returns as URC Tour Sponsor for the 16th consecutive season.
* Pioneer Pole Buildings returns to the URC Series for the fourth season.
* Open draw for heats, redraw for the feature.
* Revenge Redraw for the feature at designated events.
* Elimination of the 3 out of 5 handicapping penalty.
* Elimination of the top 3 from the previous event penalty.
* American Racer Tire to return to URC with new sizing and compounds at 2013 pricing.
* 2014 URC Driver & Owner Champion to each earn the “Champions Pit Pass” at each URC event in 2015.
* $250 to take the green at all regular events with a 22 car starting field.
* URC Technical Committee of six owners will be formed to provide recommendations on car specifications to URC Management.

* URC Novelty Stand to Return with URC apparel.
* “Champions Celebration” to replace the Banquet with emphasis on fun, food, music, DJ, casual attire, affordable ticket prices, presentations only to the Champions.

* Ladies Auxiliary to be formed to organize the Champions Celebration and various race night autograph sessions, and other activities.

* Bolt on weight will be permitted in 2014 with some safety requirements.
* 305 sprint rules incorporated into URC car specification rules
* URC Rule Book modifications-streamline, simplified, made to be user friendly, eliminate many of the penalties.

* URC website enhancements to showcase the drivers and owners of URC.

URC is currently working on some other modifications to enhance the “new deal” of 2014 but we are still working on some of the final details. A complete list will be finalized for the Motorsports Show in January 2014.

The 2014 season will introduce many new ideas and a different way for URC to be doing business. We’ve talked to many owners, drivers and race track Promoters since the middle of the summer. URC Owners John and Cher Zimmerman and Bob Miller have listened closely to the comments. There have been countless great suggestions, and we feel we took the very best idea’s while staying within our cost to the Promoters. Our sponsors remain strong with our organization and the outlook for a prosperous 2014 looks brighter than ever.

URC . . . .building the New Deal with a Come One, Come All approach!

GODOWN, SAMMONS, WILLIAMS & BITNER TEST & TUNE AT NEW EGYPT WEDNESDAY NIGHT

JERSEY RUSH III COMING TO NEW EGYPT, TUESDAY, AUGUST 20

In anticipation of the Tuesday night, August 20 NAPA Auto Parts JERSEY RUSH III presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings, the New Egypt Speedway opened their track for a special test and tune on Wednesday night. Popular modified driver Ryan Godown was on hand to take his first ride in the #747 410 sprint car as Davey Sammons took over the wheel of Godown’s modified. Modified driver Neal Williams also brought out his 410 sprinter for the first time. Local Trenton, NJ sprint car driver Mark Bitner had his 410 sprint our for the test and tune as well.

Williams struggled with some early night mechanical problems but was turning some fast laps later in the practice. Ryan Godown also got his feel of a 410 sprint car but following some track preparation, Godown spun and backed into the wall, turning over the #747 sprinter. There was minor damage to the car and plans are still in place for Ryan Godown to be an entry in the Jersey Rush III on Tuesday night. Davey Sammons enjoyed his turn with the modified and is also looking for the 410 Sprint and Modified Double-header on Tuesday night, August 20.

A quality field of 410 sprints are expected to include Greg Hodnett, Mark Smith, Lance Dewease, Fred Rahmer, Danny Dietrich, JJ Grasso, Ryan Smith, Billy Pauch Jr., Robbie Stillwaggon, Rick Lafferty, Ryan Bohlke and Sammons. The 410 sprints will chase a $5,000 to win payoff plus $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green as the modified feature winner will collect a $3,000 payday for 30 laps.

Sammons, Godown and Williams are expected to be challenged in the modifieds by New Egypt Speedway’s Billy Pauch and Willie Osmun. Expected entries include last year’s JERSEY RUSH Modified winner Jimmy Horton, Craig Von Dohren, Duane Howard, Frank Cozze, Dave Witte, Mike Frantz, John Stangle, Tad Cox, Jimmy Blewett, David VanHorn, Sammy Piazza, Richie Pratt Jr., Sammy Martz, Lou Cicconi, Jared Umbenhauer, and Davey Sammons.

Making the Modified portion of JERSEY RUSH III even more interesting, event organizers have created a blend of rules to bring together the Big Block Modifieds and the PA/New Egypt Legal 358 Modifieds. Big Block Modifieds will have a 467 cubic inch limit, they must run with windows only, and on gas with a weight of 2,500 pounds. For the PA/New Egypt Legal 358 Modifieds, sail panels are allowed, gas with a weight of 2,275 or alcohol with a weight of 2,350. Nine-to-one compression ratio Steel Block engined cars will have a weight of 2275. American Racer Tires will be required (no stamp necessary) with the fronts at 33 or harder, the left rear at 44 or harder and the right rear at 48 or harder. This blend of rules was designed to attract drivers from various speedways and should bring together a vast number of talent laden entries.

With New Egypt regulars making their 410 Sprint debuts, a big field of 410 Sprinters already entered and an innovative Modified rules formula designed to be all-inclusive, JERSEY RUSH III is taking shape as one of the most anticipated auto racing events in the state of New Jersey.

The NAPA Auto Parts/Pioneer Pole Buildings JERSEY RUSH III will get underway at 7:30 PM, with gates opening at 5:00 PM . The extremely popular 410 Sprint Car Pit Side Meet & Greet, always a highlight of this event, allows race fans to enter the pit area from 5:00 PM, to 6:00 PM.

This huge event is a co-promotion between Lenny, Danny and Davey Sammons and special events organizer Bob Miller.
