Hafertepe Dominates Round Two Of The 2017 Dirt Cup At Skagit Speedway

ALGER, Wash. (June 23, 2017) What a difference 24-hours can make as Sam Hafertepe, Jr. went from being a lap down on Thursday at Skagit Speedway to Victory Lane on Friday with a run that was hotter than Seattle Coffee during Friday's 25 lap preliminary A-Feature in the 46th Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup presented by the Skagit Casino and Resort.

"Everybody knows, at least the guys that race with us, when it gets a little rough like that, our car doesn't normally do very good and I'm not as young as I used to be for that cowboy up," said Hafertepe on the subject of the overnight difference in his performance.

"The track being a little slicker for us, it got close to what we had last year on Saturday night. Steve's done a great job. To work as hard as he has, to get what we had tonight form what we started with, hats off to Steve."

Hafertepe's eighth win on the season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, the Texas native will roll off fourth in Saturday's $15,000 to win A-Feature.

Positioning his Hwy. 79 Collision No. 15h on the pole through Friday's Heat/Qualifier format, Hafertepe shot to the point immediately with Roger Crockett in tow.

Keeping the field at bay through a pair of early race cautions, and a red flag involving Seth Bergman and Wayne Johnson, the restarts yield little opportunity for Crockett to attack. Pacing ahead of third running Travis Rilat early on, the No. 39c came under fire from Blake Hahn with the Griffith Truck and Equipment No. 52 taking the show position as Hafertepe began approaching the back of the field.

Green from Lap 7 on, traffic did little to slow Hafertepe's run with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour point's leader crossing 5.188 seconds ahead of Roger Crockett, but it's the driver of the No. 7n that will lead the field to the drop of the green on Saturday.

"We had a good start to last night, and starting second row tonight, we didn't have any of the cars from last night starting around us so I knew we were in good shape," commented Crockett.

On his prediction of the track for Saturday, Roger said, "I think it'll be a lot like tonight. It usually gets hard on tires later in the race, which is good, it makes you save your car, but we've got a lot of work to do to catch Sam."

Blake Hahn completed the podium in the Lucas Oil No. 52 with 10th starting Aaron Reutzel fourth.
The run by the No. 87 earned the outside of the front row for Saturday's A-Feature. Jason Solwold finished fifth from ninth with Travis Rilat in tow. Colton Heath seventh was trailed by Matt Covington from 14th. Skylar Gee was the night's CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the night with a run from 17th to ninth. Austen Wheatley made up the top-ten.

The finale of the 46th Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup presented by the Skagit Casino and Resort on Saturday, June 24 will be preceded by a Fan Fest Party by the track's main entrance as well as the NSCHoF Charity Auction in the grandstands. Both begin at 1:00 P.M. (PDT).

Modifieds will join the lineup of classes with racing getting underway at 7:00 P.M. (PDT). For more information on the Skagit Speedway, log onto http://www.skagitspeedway.com.

Hafertepe Continues Lucas Oil ASCS Domination At Lawton Speedway

LAWTON, Okla. (June 14, 2017) Sam Hafertepe, Jr. continues to show no signs of slowing down as the Keith Dobbs Motorsports No. 15h unmercifully dominated Wednesday's Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network Speedweek stop at the Lawton Speedway.

"This thing was awesome," said Sam of his seventh National Tour score of 2017. "I don't care if we win it by five seconds, or a tenth of a second, as long as we get the "W", that's all the really matters and when a car is as good as this, it's fun because you can take you time and be smooth rather than rip it too hard."

Referencing his 5.291 second advantage at the drop of the checkered flag, Hafertepe was challenged once during the 25 lap feature event with Justin Henderson leading the field through the first two turns, before slamming the wall off the fourth turn as Sam rolled by for the lead.

"I knew he [Henderson] was going to be running hard there to and stay ahead of us. I got a good run off turn-two on the top and just decided to drive in real hard on him and see how hard he'd run it, and he just went a little too hard and hit the wall. We've run here a lot and it usually goes away coming off of four so if I pressured him, that might happen but I didn't expect him to slam the wall like that," said Hafertepe of the opening lap battle.

Single file on a Lap 2 restart, the green was short lived with no laps completed. Having gone into the work area with a flat right rear, Justin Henderson made it back to competition with Wayne Johnson and Blake Hahn also having to work on their machines.

Green for four more rotations, the caution again blinked on for a pair of cars stopped atop the second turn. Slowed once more near the race's half way point, Hafertepe quickly put distance over the field on every restart.

Working traffic with less than 10 laps to run, the advantage for the No. 15h stated at roughly a straightaway as the race from third through fifth saw Josh Baughman, Jason Barney, and 18th starting Aaron Reutzel trade slide-jobs and three wide passes several times before Reutzel moved to the show position. Tracking down second running Alex Sewell, the closing laps advanced Aaron to the runner-up spot for the night's CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night. Aaron also jumped from fifth in tour standings to third.
Side by side at the line, Josh Baughman edged Sewell for third as the pair made contact at the line with Alex tipping over to draw the red flag. With the leader taking the checkered flag, the race was official with the finish split between the four drivers who crossed and the running order on the white flag lap.
Channin Tankersley, with a fresh engine under the hood, moved up two spots to fifth with Jason Barney ending his night sixth. Coming from 14th, El Paso's John Carney II advanced to seventh with Johnny Herrera eighth. Matt Covington and Joe Wood, Jr. completed the top-ten.

The appearance of 41 drivers at the Lawton Speedway saw five Heat Races going to Jason McDougal, Dustin Morgan, Brad Queen, Alex Sewell, and Josh Baughman. The 40 plus car field brought about Qualifiers which were topped by Channin Tankersley, Wayne Johnson, and Sam Hafertepe, Jr. A pair of B-Features went Skylar Gee and Aaron Reutzel. Three Provisionals were used by Harli White, Kyle Bellm, and Jared Sewell.
The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Networks rolls to Round 5 of the ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek on Thursday, June 15 at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla. Racing begins at 8:00 P.M. (CDT).

ASCS National Sprint Series

Sam Hafertepe, Jr. Perfect At Lucas Oil ASCS Devil's Bowl Summer Nationals

MESQUITE, Texas (June 13, 2017) Four ASCS sanctioned visits to the Devil's Bowl Speedway in 2017, and just as many wins to show for it, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. rebounded from a weekend of DNF finishes with a dominating performance in Round 3 of the 2017 ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek, leading non-stop in the 44th Devil's Bowl Summer Nationals with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.

"We had to do some frame repair to this thing after I got on my lid on Friday night, but I've got to thank Triston Dycus. Whatever it takes to keep us going, he does what he has to do. He was supposed to race tonight, so I feel bad because I'm probably half the reason he didn't race, but you can't replace friends like that," said Hafertepe of his sixth National Tour victory of the season.
Career victory No. 5 for Sam Hafertepe, Jr. at the Devil's Bowl Speedway since 2011, Sam has eight overall ASCS wins on the 2017 season.

"I know what my car can do here. I feel like I've made a million laps here and it showed tonight, but my hats off to my crew. I know I chew their asses a lot, but I want them to be perfect. We try to be perfect every night, and they've busted hard the past two days, so this win is for them."
Running to a Heat Race win, the Hwy. 79 Collision No. 15h made the redraw with a runner-up starting spot for the A-Feature. Rolling green next to Dalton Stevens, the race into the first two turns when the way of Hafertepe.

With a nearly straightaway advantage built within the first five laps, the back of the field was already in view. Picking his way through slower traffic, the tiptoe moves seemed to do little to slow the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour point's leader.

Slowed once on Lap 15 for Justin Henderson who came to a stop just off the top of the third turn with a broken Sway Bar, the lineup found a pair of lapped cars between Sam and second place, Aaron Reutzel.
Running away again at the drop of the green, Sam was uncontested with a nearly straightaway advantage at the drop of the checkered flag.

Racing for the runner-up spot on the closing lap, things got a little more than close between Dalton Stevens and Aaron Reutzel as wheel to wheel contact between the two sent the No. 87 off the track in the first and second turns, allowing the No. 99x to take second in his first Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour A-Feature start.

Matt Covington also benefited from the contact to take over the final podium step as Reutzel was shuffled back to fourth. From 10th, Seth Bergman made his way through the field to complete the top-five.
Advancing 12 positions after having to race through the BMRS B-Feature, El Paso's John Carney II was the CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night. Skylar Gee crossed seventh with Blake Hahn eighth from the 16th starting spot. Ninth went to Dustin Morgan with Wayne Johnson crossing tenth.

Round three of the ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek brought 31 drivers to the Devil's Bowl Speedway with four Heat Race wins going to Aaron Reutzel, Matt Covington, Martin Edwards, and Sam Hafertepe, Jr. A single B-Main went to Johnny Herrera. One provisional start was used by Jake Greider.

The 2017 ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek and Bob Westphal Memorial Cup continues on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla. Hot Laps begin at 7:45 P.M. (CDT). Sam Hafertepe, Jr. Dominates ASCS Gulf South At The Devil's Bowl

MESQUITE, Texas (May 27, 2017) Sam Hafertepe, Jr. has stated that the Devil's Bowl Speedway is his favorite track, and so far in 2017 the Sunnyvale, Texas racer is perfect at the Mesquite half-mile with Saturday's $3,000 paycheck coming with the Griffith Truck and Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region.

Sam's third win on the year at the Devil's Bowl, and seventh overall in ASCS competition, the Hwy. 79 Collision/J&J Auto Racing No. 15h shot straight to the lead from the fourth starting spot to pace all 25 laps for his 11th career ASCS Gulf South score.

Just off his first ASCS victory of the season one night ago, Ray Allen Kulhanek kept his momentum going with a runner-up finish while Washington's Seth Bergman came up to finish third. Switching cars after Friday night, Johnny Herrera wheeled to a fourth place finish after starting 12th with John Carney II placing fifth.

Matt Covington sixth was followed by Sammy Swindell in seventh from 16th. Channin Tankersley, Harli White, and 17th starting Blake Hahn completed the top-ten.
One night of racing remains on the weekend on Sunday, May 28 with the Griffith Truck and Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region headlining action at the Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, Texas.

ASCS National Sprint Series

LAWTON, Okla. (May 20, 2017) Topping a stout field of 29 drivers at Lawton Speedway with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley's Racing Products, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. won the battle through traffic to pick up $2,000 and his sixth ASCS sanctioned victory of the 2017 season.

Taking off from the pole of Saturday's lineup, the opening lap lead fell into the hands of John Carney II, who rolled the outside of the front row. Working into traffic by the seventh round, Carney had opened up a comfortable advantage as the MVT No. 11x began weaving around back markers. Making moves as fast as Carney, the distance between first and second began to close.

Working low into the first and second turn on Lap 15, Carney hit the back straightaway with Hafertepe charging off the cushion. Turning down the track, Sam found the low side of turn three first, forcing Carney to the middle and in turn, to second off the fourth turn.

Caution working Lap 16, the field reverted back to the previously completed lap. Still showing Hafertepe on point, the green saw Carney dive the first turn in an attempt to slide Sam for the lead, but the move would be denied as John fell back in line.

High in one and two, and low and three and four, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. built a 1.5 second advantage over the No. 11x. Searching either end of the track, Carney began running the cushion at both ends. Picking up time on the No 15h, traffic again came into play; allowing Carney to close right on Hafertepe's back bumper with only three laps to go. Still able to thwart any attempts at the lead and again pull away, Sam cleared the checkered flag with a 1.415 second advantage.

Skipping over the cushion in the final turns, Carney would relinquish the runner-up spot to Oklahoma's Alex Sewell with John Carney II holding on to complete the podium. Seth Bergman fourth was joined by Wayne Johnson to round out the top-five. Blake Hahn crossed sixth with Matt Covington, Danny Jennings, Brandon Long, and Johnny Herrera rounding out the top-ten.

The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley's Racing Products returns to Lawton Speedway on Wednesday, June 14 with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network for round four of the 2017 ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek.

Sam Hafertepe, Jr. Gets One For The Thumb At Missouri State Fair Speedway

SEDALIA, Mo. (April 15, 2017) Tying a record set by Gary Wright in 2005, Sunnyvale, Texas shoe Sam Hafertepe, Jr got one for the thumb at the Missouri State Fair Speedway with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network; beating out Johnny Herrera by mere feet at the drop of the checkered flag.

"Let me tell you, Johnny and I raced well together last year and it's the same this year. I've got a lot of respect for what he does, and he shows the same towards me and when we can put on a show like that in front of these fans, that's what makes them want to come back every time," said Hafertepe was congratulated in the car by Herrera.

Asked about his fifth win in as many starts, Sam replied, "This is incredible. We really didn't have the best car early on. We were way to tight and I had to start making it work, especially in three and four where they were just eating us up but just hats off to my guys."

Fighting the tight race car though the opening laps, a restart on Lap 8 would prove pivotal for Hafertepe who was able to maneuver out of dirty air. Advancing into the chase for the lead, Hafertepe trailed Johnny Herrera by just shy of a half straightaway as the pair began to find traffic at the races midpoint.

With the aid of traffic the Hwy. 79 Collision No. 15h quickly reeled in the No. 45x and began to challenge on the fifteenth round. Pulling even with Herrera of the following lap, Sam was able to secure the lead and begin putting slower cars between he and the MVT No. 45x.

Caution on lap 18 for Jake Greider and Seth Bergman breathed new life into the battle for the top spot as Herrera charged the bottom side of the speedway through turns one and two to capture the lead as the field advanced to the back stretch.

Challenging in kind though the third and fourth turns, Hafertepe was able to get back on point as Herrera fell to a ten car length deficit. Fighting an increasingly tight machine through the high side of turns one and two, the No. 15h saw his advantage being to dwindle. Rolling to twin flags, Herrera was there. Pulling to Sam's back bumper, the pair raced under the white flag with Herrera trapped in dirty air. Shuffled up the racetrack, Johnny quickly regain momentum and again challenged as the leaders hit the final two turns.

Holding Hafertepe to the top of the race track, Johnny hustled the bottom for everything he had but would come up a mere feet shy of the win.

To the approval of his hometown fans, Jonathan Cornell would run third in the Starline Brass No. 28 with Blake Hahn posting his first top five of the season in the Pizza Express No. 52. Having to rebuild his car after a flip at Texas Motor Speedway, Missouri's Kyle Bellm advanced from eighth to fifth in the RAMS No. 14k.

Posting his best finish of the season, Canada's Skylar Gee crossed sixth with Aaron Reutzel earning the CP Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night with a blistering run from 18th to seventh. Justin Henderson crossed eighth with Sammy Swindell from 12th to ninth. The top-ten rounded out with Oklahoma's Wayne Johnson.

The 25 car field was split into three Heat Races with Kyle Bellm, Skylar Gee, and Justin Henderson earning wins. New for the 2017 season, a Dash for Cash was run for the drivers with the Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region presented by Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps with Randy Martin making the closing laps pass to pick up a nice $600 bonus.

The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network hits the track again on Thursday, May 11 at the McCarthy Auto Group KC Klassic presented by RacinBoys.com at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.

Hafertepe Remains Perfect With Lucas Oil ASCS Following Texas Motor Speedway Sweep

FT. WORTH, Texas (April 8, 2017)... Sam Hafertepe, Jr. continued his dominance of the 2017 season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network with his fourth win in as many nights this past Saturday to complete the weekend sweep of Tony Stewart's Texas Sprint Car Nationals presented by Machinery Auctioneers at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.
Asked about his run in Victory Lane, Sam replied, "It was predominantly top groove track, so it made it tough to get around lapped cars so we weren't going to make any dumb moves and try to force anything. We've been in that situation several times, but I knew we had a good enough car and we didn't have to flex our muscles early. At some point, we could take care of it."

On the weekend and the crowd on hand, Sam thanked Tony Stewart and the Texas Motor Speedway crew hosting the event. Setting a new series record with four consecutive victories, Hafertepe added his fourth triumph at the Texas Motor Speedway to his resume'.

Gridding the lineup on the pole, Sam would play the role of hunter as Wayne Johnson jetted off with the lead. Chasing the Outlaw Wings No. 2c down, the pair began going slide for slide around the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track on the third round. Showing Hafertepe leading, the slide-jobs did not stop for several laps before the No. 15h earned some breathing room. Working back to Sam's rear bumper as the pair worked slower traffic, the race was brought to a halt on Lap 10 for a crash in turn four involving Kyle Bellm and John Carney II, of which both drivers were unharmed.

Jettisoning to a sizable advantage on the restart, Hafertepe was untouchable. Through traffic, the No. 15h slid by with ease as the race from second through fifth was anyone guess.

Back and forth between Aaron Reutzel, Josh Baughman, and Christopher Bell, the battle came to a head as Bell tried to slow for a slower car while racing under Aaron Reutzel; sending his No. 88 machine up the track where both drivers would flip into the turn four catch fence. Both drivers were okay.

Moving Baughman to second and Johnson back into the top-three, there was no catching the No. 15h, who crossed the line 2.231 seconds ahead of the PPG No. 17.

Wayne Johnson brought his Oil Medics No. 2c home on the final podium step with Tony Stewart coming from 11th to fourth in the Rush Truck Centers No. 14. The top-five rounded out with the MVT No. 45x of Johnny Herrera.
