Sam Hafertepe, Jr. Dominates Devil's Bowl Winter Nationals Opener

Bryan Hulbert - MESQUITE, Texas (October 18, 2019) A dominating performance for Sam Hafertepe, Jr. at the Devil's Bowl Speedway, the driver of the Heidbreder Foundation/Hills Racing Team No. 15h picked up his 10th SawBlade.com A-Feature win of the season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.

His 47th career National Tour victory, the win was very emotional for Sam. Fighting back tears in Victory Lane, he dedicated the win to his Grandfather, George Hafertepe, who passed away last week at the age of 90.

"All we wanted to do was come out and win tonight for him, and we did it," stated Sam, who will join with family and friends to celebrate his Grandfather's life on Saturday.

Taking off from the right of the front row, Hafertepe chased the lead the opening nine laps as Harli White took off with the top spot. Finding traffic on Lap 7, that allowed the No. 15h to close. Battling with the Dustin's Dream No. 17w through the eighth circuit, Hafertepe snagged the top spot the following lap. Held up by the slower cars, the No. 11 of Roger Crockett took advantage of the situation to take over second on Lap 10.

Trying to run down the No. 15h, the caution lights slowed the field on Lap 11 as Scott Bogucki slowed to a stop in the second turn.

Caution again on the restart for Steven Shebester, the lights around the Devil's Bowl dimmed. Giving a couple of safety laps, officials called off the restart; doing so just, before the lights went completely dark.

Getting the problem fixed and lights restored, the field re-fired with Sam Hafertepe, Jr. absolutely dominating the last half of the A-Feature. Pulling to as much as a seven-second advantage before a caution on Lap 18 for Kevin Ramey, the final result was a lights out performance by the Sunnyvale, Texas shoe with a 3.894 second advantage over Roger Crockett at the drop of the checkered flag.

Diving the bottom of the Devil's Bowl through turns one and two on the Lap 18 restart, Matt Covington went from sixth to third and held on for his 36th career podium finish with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network. John Carney II ended up fourth with Harli White picking up her ninth career National Tour top-five finish.

Blake Hahn picked up a couple of spots to finish sixth with Jack Dover seventh. Chris Martin in eighth was followed by Dylan Westbrook. Picking up 10 positions to earn Hard Charger honors, Colorado's Jake Bubak completed the top ten.

A field of 31 drivers was on hand to open the 46th annual Devil's Bowl Winter Nationals. Four SCE Gaskets Heat Races went to Danny Jennings, Tucker Doughty, Roger Crockett, and Jack Dover. BMRS B-Feature action was topped by Kevin Ramey. Provisionals were used by Alex Hill and Casey Carter.

The 46th annual Devil's Bowl Winter Nationals continues Saturday, October 19 with gates opening at 3:00 P.M. and racing at 8:00 P.M. (CT). Admission is $25 with Seniors, Military, and Kids 13-15 admitted for only $10. Children 12 and under are free into the grandstands. Pit Passes each night are $30. Hafertepe Unchallenged With Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series At Creek County Speedway

Bryan Hulbert - SAPULPA, Okla. (October 12, 2019) Leading start to finish for his ninth victory of the season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. made it back-to-back wins in the John Christner Trucking Fall Fling presented by James Hodge Ford at Creek County Speedway.
Sam's 46th career National Tour victory, the Sunnyvale, Texas driver is now tied with Tim Crawley for fourth in overall wins.

Winner Sam Hafertepe Jr (David Campbell Photo)

"It's been a long time since I've been out of the front straightaway, I don't even remember what it feels like," chuckled Sam who reclaimed the National Tour point's lead by 14 markers.

Taking lessons from the COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tire, Hafertepe was able to put his J&J Chassis anywhere he needed too throughout the 30-lap SawBlade.com A-Feature.

"This was an awesome Racecar. I don't think there was a better car here all night. We didn't touch it, we just left it alone, and we definitely got the balance back in this thing. It's back to a dominate Racecar and going to Devil's Bowl next week, that's one of my favorite tracks in the world. I can't wait for that."

Taking the lead from the right of the front row, Hafertepe was trailed by Tucker Doughty for the opening lap before Matt Covington shot in second. Opening his lead to nearly two seconds, Hafertepe's advantage dropped quickly as the leaders hit traffic on Lap 7.

Caution working Lap 9 for debris, Covington looked for a way around Hafertepe but with no success. Opening his advantage again, lapped traffic was of little issue for the Heidbreder Foundation No. 15h.

Under caution working Lap 28, slower cars in the mix shook things up behind Hafertepe as Roger Crockett moved by the No. 95 for second. With clean air to his advantage, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. raced to the finish with a 2.224-second advantage over Crockett's Route 66 Chevrolet No. 11. Battling a shower of power steering fluid over the final few laps that kept the No. 95 off the cushion, Matt Covington managed to hold on for his seventh podium finish of the season. Tyler Thomas in fourth was followed to the finish by Jordon Mallett.
A comeback night for Howard Moore, who had power steering issues early in the evening, the A.G. Rains owned No. 3 crossed sixth with Seth Bergman hard charging from 18th to seventh after racing ninth to second in the BMRS B-Feature. Blake Hahn picked up three spots to eighth with Robbie Price in ninth. After nearly going upside down on Lap 18, El Paso's John Carney II rebounded to a tenth-place finish.

A field of 34 was on hand for the John Christner Trucking Fall Fling presented by James Hodge Ford. Four SCE Gaskets Heat Races went to Matt Covington, Tyler Thomas, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., and Jordon Mallett. BRMS B-Feature was topped by Sean McClelland. One provisional was taken by Alex Hill.

The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network returns to competition on Friday, October 18 and Saturday, October 19 at the famed Devi's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas. Tickets are on sale now at www.devilsbowl.com.

Blake Hahn Wins The 9th Annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial

Bryan Hulbert - WHEATLAND, Mo. ( September 21, 2019) One win deserves another, and Blake Hahn made it one of the biggest of his career; leading start to finish for Saturday's $10,000 score in the 9th annual Hockett/McMillin Memorial with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.

Hahn's ninth career SawBlade.com A-Feature victory with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, the triumph was enough to retake the series point's lead from Sam Hafertepe, Jr. by 20 markers. Hitting the turn-four wall in his Last Chance Qualifier, Hafertepe's night ended one spot shy of a transfer into the A-Feature.

Winner Blake Hahn (Kenny Shaw Photo)

"I want to thank the fans for hanging out for this awesome, long race," stated Hahn of then night's program, which was nearly claimed by Mother Nature following a late afternoon downpour that delayed the Hockett/McMillin Memorial finale over two hours.

Grabbing the cushion from the start, Hahn pulled away from pole sitter, Josh Baughman, before the caution lights blinked on with three laps complete for Brinton Marvel. Keeping pace with Hahn on the restart, Blake tried the bottom through turns three and four, nearly allowing the No. 17 to get a run before finally moving to the top at both ends of the Lucas Oil Speedway.

Getting into traffic with 10 laps complete, Hahn began searching for lines as Derek Hagar closed in to challenge for second.

Getting the run under the No. 17 on Lap 14, Hagar pushed through the fourth turn; tagging Baughman's left front tire and sending him flying up the track. Avoiding the flip and the wall, Baughman recovered in seventh.

Taking advantage of the situation, Dylan Westbrook peddled by Hagar on Lap 17.
Reeling in Hahn numerous times as the pair weaved through traffic, the Sage Fruit, Co. No, 52 was able to keep the No. 47x at bay all the way to Lap 35. Peeling off the cushion to clear a slower car in the third and fourth turns, Hahn pushed up the track and into the path of Westbrook. With no time to react, the two front runners slammed right rear to left rear; sending Hahn over the hood of the No. 47x, who in turn, flipped off the exit of turn four.
"I hate to see anybody turn upside down," stated Hahn. "I was trying to get underneath some lapped cars and got into the slop down on the bottom and just pushed up in front of him. It was my fault."

Able to keep rolling, Hahn was pursued on the restart by Pennsylvania's Mark Smith.
Committed the bottom of the three-eighths-mile oval, Smith tried for the lead but couldn't make it work as Hahn ran away over the final five laps to a 2.271 seconds advantage over the No. M1 with Brady Bacon hard charging through the field from 16th to complete the podium. Derek Hagar would slip to fourth with Seth Bergman making a charge through the field from 10th to complete the top five.

Racing his way in through a B-Feature, Matt Covington made up for two rough nights to open his Hockett/McMillin Memorial with a run from 17th to sixth. Paul Nienhiser crossed seventh, followed by Jonathan Cornell who moved up to eighth from 13th. Ayton Gennetten in ninth was trailed by Roger Crockett in tenth.

Overall, the weekend saw 71 drivers in attendance from 15 states, as well as drivers from Canada and Australia. The combined attendance of both classes put the overall at 132 Sprint Cars.

ASCS National Sprint Series

Baughman Flies To Friday Night Score At 9th Annual Hockett/McMillin Memorial

Bryan Hulbert - WHEATLAND, Mo. (September 20, 2019) Denied the win in Thursday's opener, Josh Baughman was not about to let that happen again as the Precision Catalyst No. 17 led start to finish on the second night of the General Tire Hockett/McMillin Memorial with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.

With a fifth on Thursday to go with his win, Baughman has secured the pole for Saturday's $10,000 to win Hockett/McMillin Memorial finale.

Winner Josh Baughman (Kenny Shaw Photo)

"We've been close here and just hadn't been able to get it done, so this is pretty cool," commented Baughman of his first career win at Lucas Oil Speedway. "We have Fischer Body Shop here and this is their backyard, so it's really good to win for them and everybody back home. Aaron [Reutzel] won tonight too at Williams Grove, so this is the second time we've both won on the same night. I feel like that says a lot about our entire team."

Leading start to finish for his second career SawBlade.com A-Feature triumph, Baughman's night was nearly cut short a couple of times as the cushion became deeper and deeper off the fourth turn.

"It was getting narrow in turn-four. Just real slick on exit to a big curb and that wall has gotten me plenty of times here. I know how bad it hurts and I didn't want to give it up for this team. I can't say enough for Dylan and Wayne, plus we have R.J. with us this weekend. These guys gave me a badass car every time we pulled onto the track tonight."

Keeping Roger Crockett at bay through a complete restart that came after Sam Hafertepe, Jr. went sideways and collected Bales, Seavey, and Phillips, another red on Lap 5 for Scott Bogucki saw the Rocket Designs No. 11 take another shot at the lead.

Pulling away to nearly three seconds as the race cleared the half-way point, one of Baughman's encounters with the cushion allowed Crockett to close in with Seth Bergman in tow. Getting the run for the runner-up spot on Lap 16, the Young Tool Co. No. 23 grabbed the spot on the following lap. Making up more time on the No. 17, the red lights came on one last time working Lap 19 for Brad Bowden who biked hard and flipped in turn four.

Back to the 18th lap on the restart, Bergman kept pace but could not keep Baughman in striking distance with the Odessa, Texas driver pulling away to a 0.621-second advantage at the checkered flag over Seth Berman with Roger Crockett holding on to complete the podium.
Jumping from Victory Lane with the POWRi Lucas Oil WAR Sprint League 10th on the grid with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series, Oklahoma's Brady Bacon worked to a fourth-place finish with Derek Hagar charging forward 14 positions to complete the top five.

Moving up 10 spots, Jack Dover gabbed sixth with Blake Hahn rallying in the last half of he feature to climb from 18th to seventh. Up as high as sixth from 17th, Mark Smith ended up slipping to eighth with Jonathan Cornell and Tim Crawley making up the top ten.

With Preliminary Nights in the books, Josh Baughman (312) will be joined by Blake Hahn (305) on the front row of Saturday's A-Feature. Roger Crockett (292), Derek Hagar (286), Dylan Westbrook (259), Paul Nienhiser (252), Ayrton Gennetten (249), and Jack Dover (249) made up the top eight that automatically lock into the A-Feature. The remainder of the field will start their night on one of four Last Chance Qualifiers.

Overall, 71 drivers from 15 states and three counties have taken part in the 2019 Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial.

The 9th annual Hockett/McMillin Memorial concludes on Saturday, September 21, 2019. Gates open at 4:00 P.M. with racing getting underway at 6:30 P.M. (CT). More information on Lucas Oil Speedway can be found at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

Blake Hahn Triumphant In Hockett/McMillin Memorial Opener At Lucas Oil Speedway

Bryan Hulbert - WHEATLAND, Mo. (September 19, 2019) The trip to Victory Lane with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network that has eluded Blake Hahn for years finally became a reality on Thursday night, as the Smiley's Racing Products/DriveWFX.com No. 52 battled tooth and nail through Night 1 of the 9th annual General Tire Hockett/McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway.

"This is a win that I wanted really bad. It's not Saturday night, but it's still a big deal for me, especially coming in here with 69 other drivers," stated Hahn.

Winner Blake Hahn (Kenny Shaw Photo)

Blake's eighth career SawBlade.com A-Feature victory with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, the No. 52 took the green from the pole with Josh Baughman in tow from the third starting spot. Caution after the first lap following contact between Dylan Westbrook and Robbie Price that sent the No. 21p around, the caution lights came on again after Lap 3 for Brandon Hanks who slammed into the wall.
Rolling the bottom line on the restart, Baughman showed a nose to Hahn through the third and fourth turns on Lap 4. Adjusting his line low to keep the No. 17 at bay, Hahn slipped out of the groove, letting Baughman take the top spot.

Red working Lap 6 for Jeff Swindell, who went airborne and landed hard on the bottom frame rails but was unharmed, Baughman's lead was short-lived as Hahn rolled by on the cushion through turns one and two before diving the bottom on turns three and four.

On the race for the lead, Hahn stated, "I thought I need to run the top, and then Josh came in and he was working the bottom really well in three and four. After he showed it to me, I knew I needed to get down there and just missed it. Once I got by on the restart, I got back down there and just focused on not letting the car drift and it felt really good."

Putting distance on the No. 17, Hahn continued to work the top of turns one and two and the hub of turns three and four. Finding traffic on Lap 15, Blake's road was blocked, giving the Fischer Body Shop No. 17 a hole to retake the lead on Lap 16.

Diving to the bottom entering turns three to block Baughman from getting the line, the two tapped tires, forcing Josh up the track and giving the race lead back to Hahn on Lap 17. Red flag the following lap for Jay Russell, who went over after tagging an infield tire, Hahn brought the field back to green two more times after that; Sam Hafertepe, Jr. clipped a tire on the restart, followed by Jack Dover going around on Lap 19.

Green for the final time with six laps to run, Hahn darted away as Baughman came under fire from Paul Nienhiser and Dylan Westbrook. Contact with the No. 47x who squeezed between the No. 17 and the wall off the fourth turn, the rub sent Josh sideways as the field clicked off Lap 21 but was able to recover and avoid a caution.

With the race for second giving Hahn all the room he needed, Blake hit the finish line 0.900 seconds ahead of Dylan Westbrook, who came through the field from eighth. Paul Nienhiser grabbed third with Derek Hagar moving from seventh to fourth. Josh Baughman ended up getting shuffled back to fifth.

Roger Crockett in sixth was followed by Ayrton Gennetten. Moving up from 12th, Sean McClelland grabbed eighth with Kameron Key grabbing his first career top-ten finish with the National Tour. Falling back to 16th at the mid-point of the A-Feature, Harli White came back to finish 10th.

A field of 70 drivers from 15 states and three countries were on hand to open the 9th annual General Tire Hockett/McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway. The entire field will run again on Friday, September 20, 2019, with event points from Thursday and Friday combined to set the lineups for Saturday night. Going into Friday, Blake Hahn leads the event points with 169 markers. Dylan Westbrook at 159 is trailed by Paul Nienhiser with 152. Derek Hagar at 147 is followed by Josh Baughman at 144 points.

Friday, September 20, 2019, opens at 4:00 P.M. with racing at 7:05 P.M. (CT). Information on Lucas Oil Speedway can be found at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

ASCS National Sprint Series

Hafertepe Conquers ASCS Field In Lake Ozark Speedway 360 Nationals Finale

Bryan Hulbert - ELDON, Mo. (September 1, 2019) Leaving only four drivers on the lead lap Sunday night, Sam Hafertepe's run in the 10th annual Lake Ozark Speedway 360 Nationals presented by Champion Racing Oil could only be described as utter domination, with Hafertepe leading 40 non-stop laps for his eighth SawBlade.com A-Feature score of the season.

Pocketing $5,000 and taking home a custom championship belt for the win, Hafertepe felt a sense of vindication, after a shot, at victory over the Memorial Day weekend ended with an early trip to the trailer.

Winner Sam Hafertepe Jr (Steve Eichelberger Photo)

"We had that DNF here in the spring and I felt like we had the car to beat that night and just had misfortune so to come back tonight at the get the win is really sweet; especially in front of all these people. This state has badass fans. I feel like you're not going to get a better following for 360 Sprint Cars than these Missouri fans.

Even with the dominant performance, Hafertepe was still focused on how the car could have been better, "We actually started fading there towards the end of the race. It probably didn't look like it because we were still lapping a lot of guys, but I drove the shit out of that thing for 40 laps and that's all she had."

Getting the lead over Roger Crockett going into the first two turns, Hafertepe stayed glued to the cushion as he found the back of the field on Lap 5. Picking through the back markers, Hafertepe disappeared into slower traffic as Scott Bogucki went to work on Roger Crockett for the runner-up spot. Taking over second on Lap 10, the pair used traffic as picks. Keeping the spot through Lap 15, Crockett worked around Bogucki with both trailing the Heidbreder Foundation No. 15h by over a straightaway.

Keeping between five and seven slower cars between himself and the Rt. 66 Chevrolet of Tulsa No. 11, Crockett was able to close some distance through the mid-point of the feature event, but still was not able to close under three seconds at any given time.

Working into the top ten as the race neared the final ten laps, Hafertepe found the top five on Lap 37 but was unable to catch the No. 52 of Blake Hahn before the checkered flag dropped. Crossing with almost 10 lapped cars between himself and Roger Crockett, the margin was 6.857 seconds. Scott Bogucki held on for third as John Carney II, who at one point as next in line to go a lap down, was able to pull away from the No. 15h and work to a fourth-place run after starting 16th. Working up from 11th, Blake Hahn completed the top five.

Ayrton Gennetten was the first driver a lap down in sixth with Jonathan Cornell in seventh. Slipping back from third, Kyle Bellm ended up eighth with Matt Covington in ninth. Kory Bales improved two spots to complete the top ten.

With an overall field of 50 drivers on hand between the two nights of racing, 47 teams were on hand for Sunday's finale. SCE Gaskets Heat Race wins went to Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Paul Nienhiser, Matt Covington, Tony Bruce, Jr., Robbie Price, and Roger Crockett. Hoosier Tire Qualifiers went to Scott Bogucki, Tyler Blank, and Tim Crawley. BMRS B-Features were topped by Jordon Mallett and Evan Martin. Three Provisionals were used by Tucker Doughty (ASCS Owner Points), Ben Brown (Regional), and Bryan Grimes (Promoter).

Back in Missouri on September 19, 20, and 21, the series will take on the 9th annual, $10,000 to win, General Tire Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo. Tickets are on sale now at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

ASCS National Sprint Series

Price is Right At Lake Ozark Speedway With The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series

Bryan Hulbert - ELDON, Mo. (August 31, 2019) Keeping pace through a myriad of restarts at the ultra-fast Lake Ozark Speedway, Canada's Robbie Price held off multiple attempts by Sam Hafertepe, Jr. for the lead to secure the opening night of the 10th annual Lake Ozark Speedway 360 Nationals presented by Champion Racing Oil.

Price's second victory of the season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, Friday's SawBlade.com A-Feature triumph came just 11 starts after his Dirt Cup score at Skagit Speedway.

"Feels good to be No. 1 tonight," said Price with a sigh of relief. "Really have to say thank you to everyone at this track for getting this race in. Most places would have canceled, but they got it done."

Gaining the advantage over Sam Hafertepe, Jr. on the start, the first of several cautions came on Lap 2 for Danny Sams who biked his No. 24d into the wall. Charging the bottom on the restart, Hafertepe couldn't clear for the lead as Harli White nearly sent sailing over the right-side tires of Blake Hahn while racing for third.

Slowed again on Lap 5 right as the leaders found the back of the field, the restart was short-lived as White flipped in the second turn. She was unharmed but unable to continue.

Looking for the slide again, Hafertepe was kept at bay as Price leaned hard on the cushion of the Lake Ozark Speedway. Challenged again on the Lap 9 restart, Hafertepe would get two more shots at sliding the Skagit Speedway No. 21p on Lap 13 and Lap 17 with Robbie running by him as the pair hit the exit of the second turn.

Making his longest run in traffic after the caution on Lap 17, Price was unphased as he opened his advantage to 2.610 seconds at the checkered flag.
"We had a lot of cautions right when I needed them going into lapped traffic," stated Price. "We were really good in clean air, but it would have been interesting to see how things would have gone had we been able to stay in lapped traffic, but fortunately we didn't have too but I have to give a shout out to Shark Racing Engines because I tortured this thing tonight. I was basically wide open for 25 laps."

Sam Hafertepe, Jr. in second was followed by Paul Nienhiser, who picked up three positions for his first career podium finish against the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network. Taking advantage of a misstep by Blake Hahn on Lap 13 that nearly sent the No. 52 into the fence, Matt Covington raced by for fourth with Blake Hahn recovering to finish fifth.

Rolling from 10th, Washington's Seth Bergman made a brief appearance in the top five before ending up sixth in the end. Jonathan Cornell crossed seventh with Austin Alumbaugh making up eighth positions for eighth. Kyle Bellm from 13th made it to ninth with Tyler Blank earning Hard Charger honors with a run from 22nd to 10th in the Blanks Backhoe No. 75.

Combined with the www.Racinboys.com ASCS Warrior Region presented by Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps, Friday's field was 47 strong with the field rolling out into six SCE Gaskets Heat Races with wins going to Brandon Hanks, Austin Alumbaugh, Garet Williamson, Seth Bergman, and Harli White. Hoosier Tire Qualifiers went to Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Matt Covington, and Nathan Mills. BMRS B-Features were topped by Jordon Mallett and Bryan Grimes. Provisional starts were used by Scott Bogucki, Ben Brown, and Evan Martin.
