REED TAKES MODIFIED RACE WIN AT WALL SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ All American Auto Group Modified stock car driver Steven Reed charged toward the front of the field early and took the lead on lap seven to win the 40-lap main event at Wall Stadium Speedway Saturday night. It was the Jackson resident's second win of the season and the 32nd of his career. His first ever win came a little over 15 years ago.

Jackson's Jason Treat was the first leader of the test with Holmdel's Andrew Krause and Reed quickly advancing to second and third. Krause used the inside lane to charge to the front on lap five before Reed and Treat touched in the first turn forcing a caution when Treat stopped in turn two. Reed then used the ensuing restart to throttle into the lead in the outside lane while Brick's Eric Mauriello and Tyler Truex of Mayetta advanced to second and third.

The duo then chased Reed to the finish line while Krause and Ken Matlach of New Hyde Park, N.Y. completed the top five.

“The car was real good tonight,” Reed said after the win. “A lot of guys were bolting on four new tires. We went with three and we were fine. I do want to apologize to Jason Treat. Early in the race when I was on the inside I went into the corner a little hot and that pushed him up.”

The O'Shea's Auto Repair Factory Stocks raced in a pair of 25-lappers, one rain postponed from May and one regularly scheduled. John Carpenter of Howell won the first main event over Scott Riggleman of Manchester, Mike Montano of Freeport, N.Y., Scotch Plains' Tim Majek and Tom Rajkowski of Fords. Defending class champ Montano returned to win the regularly scheduled race over Riggleman, Carpenter, Gerry Koenig of Merrick, N.Y. and Union's Joey Helberg.

In just his fourth start in a Center State Engineering Sportsman car, Neil Rutt III of Edison won his career first 25-lap main event in the division. Title contender Carsten DiGiantomasso of Jackson was the runner-up, with Jonathan Laureigh of Lanoka Harbor, Jake Nelke of Manahawkin and Tomas Stainionis completing the top five.

Ricky Williams of Barnegat won his first 25-lapper of the season for the Surfside Collision 4 Cylinder Stocks taking the lead on lap four. Point Leader Neil Rutt III of Edison, Alonzo Morales of Mt. Ephraim, Neptune City's Jeffrey Loesch and Doug Ashford of Farmingdale were second through fifth.

Brick's Joe Mongeau was the winner of the 25-lap race for the Mike's Performance Center Limited Late Models. Bayville's Mike Tillett, Chris Silvestri of Hazlet and Michelle and Jim Moorman wrapped up the top five.

HEARNE HURTLES TO MODIFIED RACE WIN AT WALL SATURDAY

WALL, N.J. ~ On the same speedway on which his father Gil Hearne won a record setting 101 times, New Egypt speedster Jason Hearne fought off some of the best drivers in the business to win the 40-lap “Ladies' Night” feature race at Wall Stadium Speedway Saturday night. The All American Auto Group Modified win was Hearne's career fourth and his first in just over three years.

Hearne rocketed his famous family trademark No. 12 to the front at the outset but was never alone. Andrew Krause of Holmdel was the first to take a shot at the leader before Howell's Kevin Davison advanced to second and went after the leader starting on lap 12. Krause later advanced to second and went after Hearne again while former champion and current point leader Steven Reed of Jackson was always in the mix in this high speed chase. This battle for the win became even more intense thanks to several restarts due to mostly minor incidents.

At the finish Hearne's bright orange racer parked in the winner's circle while Krause, Reed, Jason's Jason Treat and Derek Hopkinson of Toms River wrapped up the top five.

“It feels great to win again,” Hearne said after the event. “Did I think I was going to win again? The way my luck has been going I didn't think I was going to finish a race again! I have to thank Jim Wolf. He has been with me in this for 20 years. Also want to thank Bob from Echo Hills Farm. He is here every race.”

Jarret DiGiantomasso of Jackson raced to victory in the companion 25-lapper for the Center State Engineering Sportsman cars taking the lead with just three laps remaining. DiGiantomasso took command when early leader Tommy Martino of Farmingdale got out of shape exiting turn two involving several racers including DiGiantomasso's brother Carsten.

Wrapping up the top five at the finish were Neil Rutt III of Edison, Jackson's Shanon Mongeau, Roland DeMartino of Beachwood and Lanoka Harbor's Jonathan Laureigh.

After trying all season for a victory Alonzo Morales of Mt. Ephraim grabbed two Surfside Collision 4 Cylinder Stock main event wins Saturday night. In the first race, rain postponed from earlier in the season, Morales chased Jeffrey Loesch of Neptune City to the line. When Loesch's car failed the post race inspection Morales earned the win over Rutt, Ricky Williams, Brick's Randy Hart and Chuck McDonald of Groton, Ct.

Morales enjoyed the win in the second race as Rutt, Loesch, Ryan Maher of Neptune City, and McDonald wrapped up the top five.

Point leader Shanon Mongeau of Jackson won his sixth Mike Performance Center Limited Late Model 25-lap race of the season while Krause, Hazlet's Chris Silvestri, Andy Gamble and Jim Moorman were second through fifth.

BLEWETT TAKES $5,000 SUMMER SCORCHER PRIZE AT WALL

WALL, N.J. ~ In front of a large grandstand crowd that included over 50 of the speedway's past driving champions Jimmy Blewett of Howell won the “Summer Scorcher 125” for All American Auto Group Modified stock cars at Wall Stadium Speedway Saturday night. The victory earned Blewett $5,000 and a watch from sponsor Mertens Jewelers.

Tyler Truex of Mayetta was the first leader of the contest as Holmdel's Andrew Krause quickly moved in to challenge. Krause was finally able to charge into the top spot on a lap 26 restart. Blewett then wrestled Truex for second before taking over the spot on lap 42. Another caution slowed the race a few laps later and Krause became one of the first to duck into the pit area for a pair of new tires.

Blewett stayed on the track, took command on the restart and led through the middle stages of the race before changing two tires near lap 70. Krause then had climbed back through the field before taking the lead near lap 80. Blewett then had his turn to climb through the pack and landed in second spot just past lap 90. Blewett then shadowed Krause for several laps before racing into the lead in the outside lane on lap 97.

From that point on Blewett held his ground as Krause fought back while running second. The top two were in tight formation at the finish with Blewett taking the checker flag. Ricky Collins of Willow Grove, Pa. Was impressive in finishing third, while Danny Bohn of Mooresville, N.C. and Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan completed the top five.

“Great to be in Victory Lane tonight at Wall Stadium,” Blewett said after the win. “Thanks to Rob Ormsbee, Tom Martino, Rob Fuller, Woody's, my crew, my spotter Tim Riggleman, Wall Stadium management and the fans who packed the place tonight.”

Beachwood's Elliott Wohl caught early leader Scott Riggleman of Manchester in the first half of the race and challenged him for the top spot before taking the lead near the halfway point. Wohl then dedicated his win to his mother Ruth who was celebrating a birthday. Riggleman, the returning Mike Montano of Freeport, N.Y., Wall's Bryan O'Shea and Jackson's Shanon Mongeau completed the top 5 in the 25-lap race.

Point leader Neil Rutt III of Edison continued his winning ways in the 25-lapper for the Surfside Collision 4 Cylinder stocks topping the 25-lapper after a side-by-side battle with runner-up Alonzo Morales of Mt. Ephraim that lasted for the final five laps. Ryan Maher of Neptune City, Edison's Darianne McLaren and Brick's Randy Hart were third through fifth.

Mike Alcaro of West Milford won the 25-lap race for the Green Flag Driving Experience Legend Cars. Invader Mason Magee crossed the finish line second but failed the post race inspection. Howell's Rob Silver, Sean Verwys, Joe McGrath of Brick and Joe Przybylinski were second through fifth.

REED AND HOPKINSON ARE WALL MODIFIED TWIN WINNERS

WALL, N.J. ~ Steven Reed of Jackson and Toms River's Derek Hopkinson were winners in All American Auto Group Modified stock car twin 35-lap main events at Wall Stadium on Saturday night. The wins came in front of a large “First Responders Night” crowd.

In the first Modified race Reed and early leader Andrew Krause of Holmdel struggled for the top spot early before they touched on a restart. Krause went sliding as a result as Reed raced into the lead. Reed then fought off Brick's Eric Mauriello in the late stages of the contest before nailing down the win. Roger Coss of Lafayette was third in the 20-car field, while Tyler Truex of Mayetta and Long Island's Ken Matlach wrapped up the top five.

Hopkinson charged to the front at the outset of the second 35-lapper and never looked back. Matlach haunted him early before Truex advanced to second and challenged. Later in the race Truex had to divert his attention from chasing Hopkinson and fighting off the advances of Reed. Krause and Mauriello were fourth and fifth.

After his car was nearly destroyed in a wreck in his last race here John Carpenter of Howell took the lead with an outside lane pass and then raced to victory in the companion 25 lapper for the O'Shea's Auto Repair Factory Stocks. Wall's Bryan O'Shea and Manchester's Scott Riggleman, who was involved in that recent wreck with Carpenter, was third. Shanon Mongeau of Jackson and John Bowers of Pt. Pleasant were fourth and fifth.

An outside lane pass was also the winning move for Carsten DiGiantomasso of Jackson in the 25-lap Center state Engineering Sportsman feature race. Micheal Carr of Pt. Pleasant advanced to second by the finish with Jonathan Laureigh of Lanoka Harbor, Kyle Scisco of Jackson and Edison's Neil Rutt III finishing third through fifth.

Point leader Rutt continued his winning ways by taking the top spot in the 25-lapper for the Surfside Collision 4 Cylinder Stocks. Early leader Alonzo Morales of Mt. Ephraim was second while Ryan Maher and Jeffrey Loesch, both of Neptune City, and Ian Ashford of Howell completed the top five.

Jackson's Shanon Mongeau won the 25-lapper for the Mike's Performance Center Limited Late Models over Bayville's Mike Tillett, Chris Silvestri of Hazlet, Michelle Moorman and Greg Gastelu.

Featuring a discounted $10 adult admission, Pack the Track Night will feature twin 25-lap main events for both the Sportsman and Factory Stock cars. 25-lappers will also be contested by the Green Flag Driving Experience Legend Cars and the Three-Quarter Midgets.
