SPIRIT AUTO CENTER SPEEDWAY PRESENTS BILL THOMAS MEMORIAL WEEKEND

Spirit Auto Center Speedway is preparing to wave the checkered flag on the 2016 season with a big three day weekend show - the 6th Annual Bill Thomas Memorial

Bill Thomas was instrumental in the building of the small car divisions on the Bridgeport quarter mile before his untimely death. The Speedway and the Thomas family continue to honor Thomas' memory with the running of this annual event.

Action gets underway on the quarter mile track on Friday evening with qualifying action for the winged 270s and wingless 600s. Both divisions will run qualifying races and then compete in twenty lap feature events that will lock both winners into their big races later in the weekend - the 270s on Saturday and the 600s on Sunday. The Four Cylinder Enduro cars will run their final race of the season on Friday night as well. Practice sessions will be offered for the Winged 600s and Slingshots with the fast time from each division being locked in to their main event on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Gates open at 5pm with racing getting underway at 8pm on Friday.

Saturday's action will highlight the winged divisions - the 270s and 600s. After completing the starting line-up with qualifying races, the 270 Micros will race in a thirty lap feature event with $1,000 going to the winner. The Winged 600s will compete in a forty lap main event with $1,500 as the top prize. (Both payouts are dependent upon a minimum 24 four car field.) The Xcel 600 Modifieds will complete the Saturday race card. The wingless 270s will have practice session at the conclusion of the day's racing. Gates open at 2:00 with racing to begin at 6:00.

It's Wingless Sunday as the 270s and the 600s are featured in the final day of the trifecta. After the field is determined through qualifying races, Wingless 600s doing battle in a forty lap main event with the winner's share posted at $1,500. $500 awaits the winner of the Wingless 270 main event at the end of twenty-five laps. The Slingshots will take to the quarter mile for the forty lap King of the Sling with a $1,000 payday for the race winner. (Both payouts are dependent upon a minimum 24 car field.) The Eight Cylinder Enduros will complete the weekend's action with a thirty lap main event.

This event is sure to attract the best of the best - including Spirit Auto Center 2016 Champions - Tyler Reinhardt and Jon Keller. It was Reinhardt's four consecutive Championship in the 270 division on the former Bridgeport quarter mile. While Keller earned the season title in the 600s, it was invader, Tommy Kunsman who won three races in a row to capture the Poker Series title in the same division. With three wins and a pair of runner-up finishes, Pat Bealer claimed the Poker Series title in the 270s. Chris Kurtz will be in the field for the King of the Sling after collecting four wins and the Poker Series Championship.

Camping will be available on the speedway grounds beginning on Thursday evening. No electric or hook-ups.

The action will be at Spirit Auto Center Speedway this weekend. Will you?

PAUCH RACES TO KING OF THE BIG BLOCKS TITLE

Swedesboro, NJ September 24, 2016 - During his forty plus year career, Billy Pauch has earned many titles. King of the Big Blocks can now be added!

Billy Pauch raced to the win in the first King of the Big Blocks event at the Bridgeport Speedway in front of a huge crowd of racing fans, many of whom were seeing their first race on the 5/8th mile speedway. The King of the Big Blocks is sponsored by K&A Excavating and United Rentals.

Pauch's performance was flawless, starting out with a win in his qualifying event, drawing the pole for the fifty lap feature and then leading from the green to the checkered flag and the $12,000 pay check. Pauch spends most of his Saturday nights racing Small Block Modifieds but the accomplished veteran proved that he's got what it takes regardless of the division that he's racing. "I hope I can do this a few more times before I give it up," Pauch said following the victory.

Pauch took over sole possession of third on Bridgeport's All Time Feature win list as his win in the King of the Big Blocks moved Pauch's total to fifty-nine - just one win ahead of Wade Hendrickson. Pauch first won on the 5/8th mile Bridgeport Speedway in March of 1987.

Pauch held off challenges from 2015 Bridgeport Champion, Jamie Mills to capture the prestigious win. Mills finished second with his Blue Hen No. 30. Dominick Buffalino, the winner of the 2016 season opener, finished third in the Pat Michael No. 51m while former multi-time track champion, Duane Howard finished fourth in a new Norm Hansell owned No. 357. Young Brett Kressley finished fifth after running as high as third in his Kressley Truck Sales No. 19B.

Ryan Godown, Billy Pauch, Jr. and Neal Williams followed the top five across the finish line. Sam Martz and 2016 Bridgeport Champion, Ryan Watt made tremendous comebacks to finish in the top ten after both were involved in early race incidents. Watt was forced to pit on two separate occasions to replace broken shocks.

The Stewart Stainless Crate Sportsman and PennCo Tech Outlaw Stocks joined the Big Block Modifieds on the King of the Big Blocks racing card.

The number to be was 99 in the Crate/Sportsman action as Craig Whitmoyer raced ahead of Brian Papiez to capture the feature win at the end of twenty laps. Whitmoyer last won at Bridgeport in during the 2012 season while Papiez was a feature winner earlier this season..

Eric Kormann finished third with pressure from Brandon Grasso who finished fourth. Ryan Lilick finished fifth, coming all the way from a twenty-third starting position to finish in the top five.

Tom Wills, Jr. picked up his second win of the 2016 season in the Outlaws Stock feature. After running fourteen consecutive green flag laps, there were two cautions before the final lap could be scored.

Wills raced ahead of Ken Watson, Jr. for the win after former track champion, Pat Conaway spun on the final circuit. Spider Ensinger picked up another solid finish to take third over Mike Creamer and Brian Ludwig.

The Bridgeport Speedway will present the bonus hand of the 811 Dig Safely 2016 Poker Series this coming Saturday, October 1st. The Spirit Auto Center Big Blocks, Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman and PennCo Tech Outlaw Stocks will compete in the tripleheader show to be followed by Powder Puff competition on the quarter mile. Drivers have the opportunity to better their poker hands during this event. Racing gets underway at 6pm.

IT'S COZZE OVER PAUCH IN BARNBURNER ON THE EVE OF THE KING OF THE BIG BLOCKS!

Swedesboro, NJ September 23, 2016 - It brought back memories for seasoned racing fans!

It was a show not many will forget as two drivers who have forged stellar careers in stock car racing over the span of forty years battled wheel to wheel and side by side for more than half the race.

Frank Cozze picked up his first Bridgeport Speedway win in more than twenty years as he held off the challenges of Billy Pauch to win the twenty-five lap 358 Small Block Modified feature event at the Bridgeport Speedway on the eve of the first running of The King of the Big Blocks! It was Cozze's seventh Bridgeport Speedway win while Pauch sits tied for third on the track's All Time Feature Winner's List with fifty-eight wins.

It was Cozze's fourth win of the season for car owner, Tom Umbenhauer. Cozze lined up along side of 2016 Bridgeport Champion, Ryan Watt for the start and quickly jumped out in front. Pauch drove into second from his sixth place start on lap eleven and the battle was on.

Lap after lap, Pauch would race ahead of Cozze on the inside as the two battled side by side through the turns but it was Cozze who would roll the outside off the corner to regain the lead. Pauch edged ahead as the leaders raced across the line to complete lap seventeen but Cozze was back in front as the pair exited turn two on the next circuit.

Cozze and Pauch led a stellar field of talent to the checkered flag at the end of twenty-five laps. The amount of racing history represented in those first to spots is nothing less than staggering. Billy Pauch, Jr. finished third in his own Kid Racing No. 15. Dominick Buffalino finished fourth with Brett Kressley racing into fifth on the final laps.

Watt, Tyler Dippel, Craig VonDohren, Ryan Krachun and Rick Laubach rounded out the top ten finishers.

Steph Palmai-Carberry returned to Bridgeport's Victory Lane when she picked up the win in the Hilborn Tri-State Race Savers Sprint Car (TSRS) feature event earlier in the evening after leading from the green flag to the checkered. The winner was greeted in Victory Lane by her father and grandfather who have played integral roles in her racing career.

Tim Tanner raced into second on lap fourteen and began to cut in to the lead but was unable to get to Palmai-Carberry's No. 99 before the checkered. Tanner finished second with Robbie Stillwaggon racing into third in the race's final laps. Tommy Carberry, the winner's husband finishing fourth with Mike Haggenbottom rounding out the top five. It was the final night of points for TSRS as Haggenbottom earned his fifth consecutive title with his fifth place finish.

Several hot lap sessions were offered for the Big Block Modifieds who will take center stage tonight (Saturday) in the first King of the Big Blocks event. Fifty laps of Big Block Modifieds with $12,000 going to the winner in an event sponsored by K&A Excavating Company and United Rental Inc.

The final feature events of the season point chase in both the Big Blocks and Crate/Sportsman were decided in the final three laps. Three For All

On August 16th, the Bridgeport Speedway will present the second Three for All event on the 5/8th mile speedway – a tripleheader show featuring the Super Late Models, United Racing Club (URC) Sprint Cars and 358 Small Block Modifieds with each division competing in qualifying events and a twenty-five lap feature events. It’s a race fan’s dream – guaranteed to offer something for everyone’s taste in dirt track racing!

The Three for All will be sponsored by BRB Contractors of King of Prussia, PA. BRB Contractors is a family owned and operated business, specializing in demolition, excavation, paving, hauling and site work. Bob Lilick and his four sons – Bobby, Brian, Justin and Kris – are competitors at the Bridgeport Speedway. Kris Lilick has won twice this season in the Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman Division and is currently second in the point standings with brother, Bobby in third. The Lilicks and BRB Contractors have been in business for sixteen years.

The inaugural Three for All event saw young Andrew Mullins make full use of a late race caution to erase Glenn Elliot’s advantage as he raced into the lead of Super Late Models as the field headed to the white flag. Curt Michael picked up the win in the URC feature event, earning his fourth win of the 2015 season followed by Robbie Stillwaggon and Josh Weller. Neal Williams earned his first ever Modifed feature win at Bridgeport with a flag to flag victory in the Small Block Modified feature, holding off the challenges of Jimmy Blewett and Ryan Watt.

Glenn Elliot’s second place finish didn’t dampen his enthusiasm for this event. “This is an awesome place,” Elliot exclaimed following the 2015 event. “I would love to come here.” Elliot will have his chance when the gates swing open on the 2016 event.

Echoing Glenn Elliot’s enthusiasm is Ricky Elliot – a former regular competitor in Bridgeport’s Big Block Modified Division. Elliot racked up ten feature wins on the Bridgeport 5/8 mile track during the 2004 season, losing the title by single digit points as he and eventual champion, Duane Howard battled to the final checkered flag for the 2004 title. Elliot made the move into Late Models during the following season. In spite of his success in the Modifieds, Elliot is still looking for his first Super Late Model victory on the Bridgeport clay.

“I thought I was smarter than everyone else,” Elliot said of his strategy in last year’s event. With all of his success and Bridgeport experience, Elliot chose a tire compound that was too hard. He finished fourth. “These cars are about a second and a half faster than the Modifieds (Big Blocks). They are more aero dynamic and a little lighter,” Elliot explained the factors that contributed to his miscalculation. “I’m really looking forward to this event,” Elliot stated. Elliot has been active with the Bridgeport management team, recruiting drivers for the 2016 event.

“Bridgeport has always been one of my favorite tracks,” Elliot related. “The faster you go, the better I like it!”

The inaugural Three for All event was also a red letter race for Neal Williams who picked up his first ever Modified win at the Bridgeport Speedway. Williams is a former Crate/Sportsman Champion at the Bridgeport Speedway with multiple feature wins in that division. It was Williams who gave New Jersey car owner, Sal DeBruno his first Bridgeport Championship while racing in the Crate/Sportsman Division.

DeBruno has fielded cars for many years. The list of drivers who have competed in the Overhead Door of Southern New Jersey No. 0 is like a “Who’s Who” in racing. That list includes drivers like Doug Hoffman, Ricky Elliot, Wade Hendrickson and Richie Pratt to name a few. Williams returned to Bridgeport this season in a second DeBruno owned Big Block Modified No. 0nw, joining rookie, CJ Jones who has won twice in the Overhead Door No. 0 so far this season.

Small Block Modified competition on the 5/8 mile track will find an interesting mix of Bridgeport regulars as well as invaders. Bridgeport Big Block Modified feature winners like Ryan Watt, Rick Laubach, Wade Hendrickson

Curt Michael would like nothing better than to pick up his winning ways when URC returns to the Bridgeport Speedway. Michael had high praise for the track preparation in last year’s event.

The nine time URC Champion from Oceanview, DE has 55 career URC wins and would welcome another Bridgeport victory to increase that total.

Davie Franek picked up a Bridgeport win back in April when URC opened their 2016 season on the 5/8 mile track. Franek has set the benchmark among URC competitors so far this season as he leads the points and has four wins. Robbie Stillwaggon, Curt Michael, Josh Weller and Troy Betts round out the top five in points with Weller being the only other driver to capture a URC victory to date.

If you are a racing fan then the Bridgeport Speedway’s Three for All has something for you! Super Late Models, Small Block Modifieds and Sprint Cars all on the same racing program!

The Bridgeport Speedway is committed to maintaining a safe, fun, family atmosphere, creating life-lasting memories of excitement!

NEW FACES IN VICTORY LANE AT SPIRIT AUTO CENTER SPEEDWAY

On a night with a full schedule of action, two drivers won for the first time this season while two other drivers scored their second win of the season. Matt Smith scored the victory in the wingless 600cc Micro Sprint feature while Colin Bustard scored his first win of the season in the 270cc Micro Sprint feature. The 2015 ServPro Four Cylinder champion, Chris Sammons won for the second time this season. Mike Haggenbottom, the consecutive four-time champion of the TSRS 305 Sprints won his second Friday night feature on the 5/8th mile.

In the Hilborn TSRS 305 Sprint feature, Haggenbottom started seventh after a three pill was drawn for the invert. Randy Wilbert and Ryan Stillwaggon battled for the lead on the opening lap with Wilbert gaining the advantage by the end of the first lap. Wilbert began to pull away from the rest of the field but by lap five Stillwaggon began to close the gap. Jeff Geiges slowed and pulled onto the 1/4 mile to bring out the first caution on lap eight. On the restart, Stillwaggon overtook Wilbert for the lead. The racing action was halted on the twelfth lap for a duel flip in the first turn by John Burnett and Zack Burd. Both drivers were uninjured. When racing resumed, Stillwaggon led Haggenbottom and Wilbert back to the green flap. Haggenbottom dogged Stillwaggon until moving to the high groove to complete the pass for the lead on lap 14. Haggenbottom recorded his second Friday night win. Kyle Purks finished second with Rick Stief gaining third on the last lap. Stillwaggon faded to fourth in the closing laps with Tim Tanner, Jr. finishing fifth.

Smith led the entire distance to record his first win of the season and second of his career at Spirit Auto Center Speedway. Nick Havens and Rich Mellor traded second back and forth until Mellor took the position for good at the thirteenth lap. Jermain Godshall took third from Haven with one lap remaining with Havens finishing fourth. Bill Thomas took fifth with one lap remaining to finish fifth.

Luke Fogg led the opening laps of the 270cc Micro Sprint feature until Lee Reinhardt took command on lap six. Reinhardt continued to lead as Bustard steadily moved from his sixth starting position to the runner-up spot. On a restart on lap 11, Reinhardt restarted the race but quickly slowed and headed to the pits. Bustard inherited the lead and then held off current point leader, Tyler Reinhardt for the win. Joe Bednarek, Ryan Wozunk and Fogg completed the top five.

Rick Burnham, making his first start of the season in the ServPro Four Cylinders, led the opening lap of the feature. Sammons passed Burnham for the lead on lap two and began to pull away from the field. Current point leader, John Webster moved into second on the fifth lap and chased Sammons for the rest of the event. At the checkered Sammons recorded his second win of the season followed by Webster, Joe Garey, Burnham and Todd Francis.

"If you build it, they will come" - everyone remembers that line from the movie Field of Dreams. The Bridgeport & Spirit Auto Centers Speedways opened the gates and they came! With numbers surpassing anyone's expectations, they came - young and old, entire families - they came to the Logan Township race track, many to see their first ever stock car race!

And they saw nine divisions of race cars with racing action taking place on both the 5/8 mile and quarter mile tracks!

The Stewart Stainless Crate/Sportsman staged their starting line-up behind the grandstands, giving everyone a very up close and personal view of the field of twenty-four stock cars.

Scott Hulmes and Billy Briggs led the field to the green flag with Briggs taking the lead from the start. Last week's feature winner, Matt Stangle made contact with the fourth turn, bringing out the first and only caution of the twenty lap main event.

Briggs led the way on the restart as David Crossman took over second. Jeremy Harrington was on the move, challenging Crossman for second on laps four and five and securing the runner-up spot as Briggs led the way on lap five. Dave Damiano took over third on lap six as he raced Crossman out of turn two. Briggs, Harrington and Damiano ran nose to tail on lap seven before Harrington made his move to take the lead.

At half way, Harrington led Damiano, Briggs, Bobby Lilick and Crossman.

On lap twelve, Steve Davis broke into the top five and then took over fourth on the next lap. Tommy Beamer, driving Jeramy Doerr's No. 3D, took over fifth on lap fourteen.

Harrington led the way to the checkered flag with Damiano, Bobby Lilick, Davis and Beamer trailing the leader.

Harrington gave the fans another thrill as he celebrated his second win of the season in Helio Castroneves style by climbing the fence at the start/finish line just as the Indy car driver is known to do.

Tom Sherby was the winner of the DA's Auto Body Rookie feature as he picked up back to back wins over four time feature winner, Chuck Sayres, Jr. Shannon Marshall and Tom Terry followed the leaders across the finish line.

Felton, DE driver, TJ Henry drove to his fourth win of the 2016 season after taking the lead from Scott Dugan on lap three of the PennCo Tech Outlaw Stock feature.

Henry drove to the checkered flag ahead of Jeramy Doerr, Brian Ludwig, Dugan and Tom Wills, Jr. who raced from the rear of the field after an early race incident.

After leading all but the final two laps of a race earlier in the season, Christopher Allen, Jr. earned a flag to flag victory in the Tanner Brothers Dairy/Thayer Performance Poker Series Tri State Race Savers Sprint Car twenty lap feature. Mark Bitner raced to finish second ahead of Logan Diehl, Rick Stief and Jeff Geiges. Both Allen and Diehl made later appearances in action on the quarter mile track. Allen picked up an "Ace" for his Poker Series hand in the second race of the 2016 series.

Racing moved to the quarter mile speedway as Travis Hill drove to the win in the 600 Wingless Micro Sprint feature. Hill has competed in both the Crate/Sportsman and Modified ranks, has been doing double duty this season, racing in both Friday and Saturday night action.

After starting third on the grid, Hill moved into the lead on the first lap and led all of the way to the checkered. Jim Tippin finished second with Jon Keller, Greg Stevens and Austin Quick rounding out the top five.

Robbie Watson was the winner of the 270 Winged Micro Sprint feature over Ryan Wozunk, Logan Diehl, Tyler Reinhardt and Alex Swift. Ryan Heim led the first lap with Wozunk leading laps two and three before Watson took the lead.

After a heated battle among brothers, Lou Partite picked up the win in the twenty lap Speedway All Star Bagel Slingshot feature. Joe Toth finished second followed by Dave McCullough, Dave Morrell and David Bell.

John Webster was the winner of the Serv Pro Four Cylinder Enduros over Chris Sammons and Justin Dunn. Lee Allen picked up the win and the $1000 prize in the Eight Cylinder Enduros followed by Chris Allen, Jr. and Tom Wolf at the finish.
