WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Nov. 24, 2013) ~ Judging by the packed pit area for Saturday’s final practice session and the brisk tire business leading up to the event, the 40th running of the Turkey Derby this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 29, 30 and Dec. 1) at Wall Stadium Speedway looks like an all-star race for open wheel Modified stock cars.

A strong list of invading drivers is led by 2013 NASCAR Modified Tour champion Ryan Preece of Berlin, Ct. driving the No. 7NY for NASCAR Sprint Cup team owner Tommy Baldwin. Baldwin has formed a super team for the annual Thanksgiving weekend event as a second car; No. 76 will be fielded with many time winner Jimmy Blewett of Howell at the wheel.

Coming off a great 2013 season Matt Hirschman of Northampton, Pa. is expected to return in an effort to win his second straight Turkey Derby classic. Other invaders expected include Les Hinkley of Windsor Locks, Ct., Jimmy Zacharias off Candor, NY, Earl Paules of Palmerton, Pa., Jeff Malone of South Windsor, Ct., Howell’s Jamie Tomaino, Anthony Sesely of Matawan, Rowan Pennink of Huntington Valley, Pa., Jason Hearne of New Egypt, North Carolina’s Danny and Michael Bohn and Dave Sapienza of Riverhead, N.Y., just to name a few.

Wall Stadium will be well represented as almost every regular Modified competitor is expected to see action. 2013 Modified champion Chas Okerson of Freehold will lead the pack with others including Holmdel’s Andrew Krause, Eric Mauriello of Howell, Brick’s Shawna Ingraham, Lavallette’s Adam LaCicero, Howell’s Steven Reed, Oakland’s Chris Hamilton, Derek Hopkinson of Toms River and many others expected to see action.

Many drivers are planning to field cars in both the Tour Modified 150-lapper and the Wall/SK Modified 100-lap main event.

The Turkey Derby is a three day auto racing event held during the daylight hours. On Friday, November 29, the Sportsman cars, Factory Stocks and 4 Cylinder cars will all compete in qualifying and 50-lap main events. The Legend Cars will qualify and compete in a 40-lap feature. The Wall Modifieds will also be on the card as they qualify for their Saturday main event and the restored cars of the Garden State Vintage Stock Car club will also be an important part of the day. The pit area will open at 6:30 a.m. on Friday, while practice will start at 8:30 a.m. Grandstand seating will open at 9:30 a.m., qualifying is set for 12:30 p.m. and main events are planned for 2:15 p.m.

Day two of the 40th Turkey Derby will see the Touring Modifieds qualify and battle in a 150-lap championship race while the Wall Modifieds race for 100-laps. Dirt Modified/Sportsman and Limited Late Models will compete in 50-lap races while the TQ Midgets are set for a 25-lapper. Qualifying, as needed, is set for all divisions on Saturday. The pit area will open at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, while practice will start at 8:30 a.m. Grandstand seating will open at 9:30 a.m., qualifying is set for 11:00 a.m. and main events are planned for 1:00 p.m.

The 40th Turkey Derby weekend will then wrap up on Sunday, December 1 with a championship Demolition Derby, a 75-lap race for the 4 Cylinder cars, a 50-lapper for the Factory Stocks and a ladies’ Powder Puff race. The pit area will open at 10:0 a.m. on Sunday, while practice will start at 11:00 a.m. Grandstand seating will open at noon as qualifying begins and main events are planned for 1:00 p.m.

Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on most Saturdays and Sundays from May through September and special events in October and November. The speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B. The speedway hotline number is 1-732-681-6400, while CKMotorsports@aol.com is the track’s email address. More information is also available at wallspeedwayracing.com.

Fred Rahmer (WoS file photo)

Fast Freddie gets popular win in prestigious 51st annual event
10/5/13
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mechanicsburg – Fast Freddie Rahmer of Salfordville wrote what could be the Cinderella ending to his storybook career at Williams Grove Speedway on Saturday night when he beat the World of Outlaws for a $50,000 payday in the 51st annual National Open for sprint cars at the oval.

It was Rahmer’s first and only win in the prestigious event that came in his final chance for the victory as he declared weeks ago that he would retire from the sport at the end of the year.

Rahmer also discussed prior to the Open that if he were to win, he may just call it a career and walk away after the show and after calming down in victory lane Saturday night, he commented further on his plans, saying that he will take a few days and talk to his family about the decision but he may let Stevie Smith finish the year out in his No. 20S ride.

The race began with Steve Buckwalter on the pole with a souring motor and Rahmer alongside and from the drop of the green Rahmer seemed on a mission.

He stayed right on Buckwalter as the laps ticked off and was able to get by the Royersford driver to lead the ninth tour when Buckwalter hopped the fourth turn cushion.

But Buckwalter went deep in the first corner to reclaim the lead and again have Rahmer pasted to his back bumper when the first caution flag unfurled with 13 laps recorded.

Craig Dollansky, Lance Dewease and Daryn Pittman restarted behind the duo.

Rahmer pounded the bottom groove when action resumed and went out front as the field scored 14 laps following the restart, lifting his right front tire off of the ground as he passed the flagstand to take the lead at the line.

And after getting control, Rahmer pulled out to a near straightway lead by the halfway point with Buckwalter in second followed now by Dewease who was up to third.

Rahmer was just beginning to work the rear of the field with 25 down when Chad Layton brought out another yellow flag, forcing a stoppage for refueling.

Rahmer chose the bottom for the double-file restart and pulled way from Buckwalter when green reappeared as Dewease blistered by for the runner-up position.

And for a moment it looked like Dewease might be able to close on the leader but once the pace got going Rahmer again began pulling away.

With 12 laps to go in the 40-lapper he had amassed a full straightaway advantage over Dewease as he instead now began feeling heat from Pittman who had driven into third on the 27th tour.

Rahmer entered the backmarkers with six laps to go and carefully threaded his way through traffic with a large lead as Pittman overtook Dewease for second with three laps to go with Rahmer out of sight.

And then it was the final lap and as opposed to waiting until the final turn as many times is the case, the mass of humanity in the stands rose to their feet in a wave of motion as the white flag waved and they felt assured of a Rahmer win.

For an entire lap the entire grandstands were up on their feet in an uncharacteristic show of support and appreciation for Rahmer who picked up the thrilling victory by 3.41 seconds over Pittman.

First Rahmer stopped on the backstretch, climbed out of this car and jumped up and down for the fans in the stands before being enveloped in a throng of fans and drivers in victory lane on the frontchute.

“The guys we race against weekly make you good enough to win this thing,” Rahmer said.

“I don’t know what to say but I’ll be drunk as hell tonight!”

“My boy and Moon (Byers) (mechanics), they’re the ones that did it,” Rahmer said of getting him the win.

Rahmer went on to ponder this season and his past few.
“They had me dead and buried but not quite so dead,” he said.
“The one thing I learned the last few years is the people that you are with can beat you way easier than the people you race against.”
“I’m just spent. I’m just spent on a weekly deal,” Rahmer said of his decision to retire after years of weekly competition.

Pittman, the World of Outlaws point leader, was happy for Rahmer, who reclaimed the Williams Grove point lead with his run to the victory after losing the lead in Friday night’s race.

“That’s probably the happiest second I’ve had all year,” the Oklahoma driver said.
“I couldn’t be any happier. I’ve learned a lot about him (Rahmer) over the last four years.”
“He’s a really good person. And it has nothing to do with racing.”

Dewease, a three-time Open winner in his career, rode home third at the finish.

“We gave it everything we had,” he said.

“With it being wet early we didn’t know how far to go with it (car) and we didn’t go far enough.”

“But we left everything we had on the track.”

Paul McMahan was fourth and Dollansky fifth.

Sixth through 10th went to Buckwalter, Greg Hodnett, David Gravel, Joey Saldana and Donny Schatz.

Fast time for the 62-car field was set by Saldana with a time of 17.192 seconds.

Heats went to Rahmer, Sammy Swindell, Gravel, Rodney Westhafer and Logan Schuchart.

Buckwalter earned the feature pole by winning the dash.

The D Main went to Kerry Madsen with Justin Henderson taking the C and Hodnett scoring the B Main.

TICKETS FOR FIRST TRENTON, NJ INDOOR AUTO RACES GO ON SALE SEPT. 25

THREE QUARTER MIDGETS, SLINGSHOTS, CHAMP KARTS TO BE FEATURED FEB. 7-8

TRENTON, NJ, September 19,2013 . . Tickets will go on sale on Wednesday, September 25 at 10:00 a.m. for the first ever Three Quarter Midget Series Indoor auto racing
events to be staged at Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, N.J. The two days of racing, entitled the "Battle of Trenton" will be held on February 7-8. The event will feature the popular three-quarter sized Midget cars driven by top northeast drivers both nights.
On Friday night, the TQ-Midgets will be joined by Slingshot racers and on Saturday will share the spotlight with Champ Karts.
The events are being promoted by Len Sammons Motorsports Productions and will follow the 12th annual Indoor race program at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. slated for January 24.25.
“The opportunity to promote indoor racing in Trenton is a great fit for us and the chance for our drivers to race in central New Jersey has been widely acclaimed,” said Len Sammons.
The TQ Midgets are purpose built racers designed for maximum speed and maneuverability on small indoor and outdoor speedways. Most are powered by Suzuki 750cc motorcycle engines and
each is a one-of-a-kind engineering exercise. Though both the cars and the venue are small compared to outdoor speedways, speeds over 75 MPH have been registered routinely in the Boardwalk Hall races in recent years.
TQ Midget drivers include ‘regulars’ on outdoor TQ circuits such as two-time ATQMRA champion Ryan Tidman and stars from other forms of racing such as 700-time career feature winner Billy Pauch, New England paved track NASCAR Modified specialist Ted Christopher and Wall
Stadium and New Egypt favorite Jimmy Blewett. Anthony Sesely, a paved track champion from Matawan, NJ who has raced this past year on both dirt and asphalt, won the most recent Indoor TQ race last February in Boardwalk Hall.
The Friday night Slingshot cars are identically built cars with aluminum roofs and bodies that resemble the popular dirt Modifieds that race in the area. Slingshots race outdoors on both dirt and pavement.  Because the cars are so similar, a premium is placed on individual driving talent, leading to often spectacular results.
The Saturday night co-featured Champ Karts are go-karts with roll cages that surround the driver for protection. Unlike the Slingshot class, different chassis and engines are permitted. Drivers come from a wide range with as many as ten states of residency represented in
recent Boardwalk Hall race events.
Choice reserved front row tickets are priced at $30 for each night and lower level reserved seats are $25 on both Friday and Saturday.
Adult General admission tickets are $20 each night and children
general admission tickets are just $5.
Racing begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday night and at 7:00 p.m. Saturday.
For more information about Sun Bank National Center’s Indoor Auto
Races, visit www.aarn.com or call 609-888-3618.
After 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, tickets will be available
online at www.comcasttixcom, by phone at 1-800-298-4200 or at the Sun
National Bank Arena box office.

Troopers Release Early Findings in Fatal Race Crash Involving Jason Leffler

West Trenton, N.J. – Because of the media attention and high volume of calls regarding the results of the investigation into the crash that claimed the life of racecar driver Jason Leffler, we are supplying an early summary of the findings. These facts have been substantially vetted even though the full investigative report remains open for some minor additions. The facts we have established to this point are outlined below.

Bridgeport Speedway, Jason Leffler Crash: June 12, 2013, 2025 hours

On June 12, 2013, Jason Leffler was operating a 2013 Maxim chassis, 410 Spring Car in a heat race at Bridgeport Speedway. Leffler was in the second position completing his fifth lap when his vehicle sustained a mechanical failure in turn four. Race vehicles were averaging 135 mph and reaching speeds of up to 150 mph in the straight-aways at this event.

Evidence discovered on the track in turn 4 indicated a tortion stop located on the left side of the vehicle came off and allowed the tortion bar and arm to slide out of its housing. As the tortion bar slid out, the tortion arm became lodged between the inboard flange of the right front wheel and the right steering arm. As a result of this mechanical failure, Leffler’s front suspension failed and his steering became locked. Leffler lost directional control of his vehicle as he exited turn 4. His vehicle rotated clockwise approximately 180 degrees and struck the outside concrete hub rail with the left side of the vehicle. Leffler’s vehicle sustained a lateral impact with the wall then overturned and continued in a south east direction before coming to final uncontrolled rest upright facing north. Leffler remained in his vehicle and sustained fatal blunt force injuries as a result of the crash. Post Mortem examination confirmed that Jason Leffler died as a result of blunt force neck injuries.
