The NASCAR star earns his second World of Outlaws win this month and third overall

OHSWEKEN, Ontario — July 31, 2012 — Tony Stewart, Ohsweken Speedway and Victory Lane are beginning to become synonymous.
The NASCAR driver led all 30 laps on Tuesday to claim his third career World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victory and his second in a row at the 3/8-mile oval. Counting Monday’s win in Corr/Pak Sprints action, he has ended his last three events at Ohsweken Speedway a top the podium.
“Last year we won the thing running through the middle and tonight we were really good right on the top edge of the race track,” Stewart said. “It wasn’t really anything consistent between the nights. It’s just a neat, little race track. It’s a lot of fun. You can race all over the place.
“And what an honor it is to stand here with this group of guys. To win with the World of Outlaws is awesome.”
A year after picking up his first-ever Outlaws win, Stewart dominated in the return to Ohsweken Speedway in front of the largest crowd in the track’s history. He maneuvered from third to first in the opening turn of the dash and held off World of Outlaws championship standings leader Craig Dollansky for his first dash victory of the season.
That earned Stewart the pole for the feature on a track that had started to slick off early in the heat races. The main event was caution free and featured a variety of close calls throughout traffic for Stewart and Dollansky, who stayed within several car lengths the entire race.
“He’s rolling around here good,” said Dollansky, who has recorded a top three in four of his last five events. “He did last year and he did again this year. We were with him and working through lapped traffic. A couple things go a little bit different in lapped traffic, I think we had a shot at the win.”
The duo entered traffic on lap nine, which forced both to move around the track and leave the preferred top groove. Midway through the feature Stewart had to check up as a car slid in front of him exiting turn four, which allowed Dollansky to close to the rear bumper. However, Stewart maintained the position and later held off a late rally from Dollansky, who closed to within two car lengths on the final lap.
“You just had to play when you caught those guys a little bit and make sure you didn’t get to a part of the corner where you just got stuck,” Stewart said. “Just keeping the momentum up was the big thing just to get by those guys.”
Had there been a late caution, Tony Stewart Racing driver Steve Kinser could have played a spoiler role. Kinser charged from 12th to sixth in the first 12 laps and cracked the top five at the midpoint of the feature.
As Kraig Kinser worked past Donny Schatz for third place with five laps remaining, Steve Kinser split the duo and eventually gained third place on the ensuing lap. He finished third to earn a podium for the second consecutive race after starting in the middle of the field.
“We’re making recoveries, but that’s not the way to be doing it,” Kinser said.
Kraig Kinser, who set quick time in qualifying, placed fourth and Schatz was fifth. Cody Darrah ended sixth, Chad Kemenah seventh, Sammy Swindell eighth, Kerry Madsen ninth and Michael Parent charged from last – 24th – to round out the top 10 and earn the KSE Hard Charger Award.
Darrah, Schatz and Swindell each won a heat race, and Jamie Collard claimed the Last Chance Showdown.

New Egypt’s Friends of Mike 100-Lap Race Rescheduled for Wednesday, August 1
Posted by: | CommentsNew Egypt Speedway
New Egypt, NJ (July 29, 2012) – After a third round of thunderstorms hit New Egypt Speedway this past Saturday afternoon, the much anticipated annual Friends of Mike event was postponed for the first time in its seven year history. With an already saturated racing surface, and more severe storms predicted throughout the evening, management was left with no other decision but to reschedule Saturday’s racing program.
‘We had everything in place on Saturday. The fans, the cars, the auction, the barbeque, you name it but we just couldn’t control the weather,’ offered a disappointed track manager Danny Serrano. ‘You have no idea how bad we wanted to get this race in on Saturday but it just wasn’t meant to be I guess. We looked at many options for a rain date trying to take NES’s schedule, the driver’s schedules, and the auction into account. After extensive talks we felt it would be best to have it this coming Wednesday, August 1,’ Serrano explained.
This coming Wednesday, August 1 has been set for the Friends of Mike make-up race date. The original schedule of events has been revised in order to accommodate a mid-week racing program. The big block modified 100-lap $10,000-to-win, $1,000-to-start Friends of Mike race will highlight the evening’s festivities. Joining the modifieds will be Outlaw Stock division, where they will compete in a special $1,000 to win 20-lap feature. The Sportsman portion of the originally scheduled July 28 program will be made up a later date soon to be announced.
An all-star studded field of modifieds had already assembled in the pit area on Saturday before the rains came. The state of New York was well represented as Matt Sheppard, Tim McCreadie, Stewart Friesen were in attendance, while Billy Decker, Bobby Varin, and Danny Johnson were en route to the speedway when the official cancellation was made. New Egypt’s own Ryan Godown, David Van Horn, Sammy Martz, and Willie Osmun were just a few of the NES regulars already checked in. NES non-regulars Richie Pratt, Jimmy Horton, Kenny Brightbill, Wade Hendrickson, Gary Tomkins, Ryan Watt, and Rick Laubach are already pre-entered for the 100-lap affair.
The Xtreme Graphics Rogie Rumble III will still be on the docket this coming Wednesday as a dozen drivers will be vying for the ‘winner-take-all’ $1,000 to win match races. Heat races for the modified field will still pay a generous $500 for each 10-lap qualifier.
The popular ‘Chinese Auction’ will once again start the F.O.M. events off on Wednesday afternoon. Lucky fans will be able to take home hundreds of beautiful prizes that will be up for grabs throughout the night in the turn four picnic area.
Both Pit and Front gates will open at 3pm on Wednesday, August 1. Hot laps begin at 6pm with racing scheduled to start at 6:30pm. Adult admission is $30, students 12-15 are $15, and children 11 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $40 no license required (NES DRIVER license holders will be acknowledged as if it were a regular Saturday event). Wristbands from Saturday will be honored at on Wednesday or any other Saturday event for the remainder of the season.
For more information please call the speedway at 609-758-1900 or log on to www.newegyptspeedway.net.
BLACK SUNDAY 61 YEARS AGO TODAY
Posted by: | CommentsBlack Sunday .. On this day in 1951 (61 years ago), three big-time drivers, each of whom were veterans of the Indianapolis 500, and who together constituted the 11th (last) row for the 1951 starting field, lost their lives on this day. At the Williams Grove Speedway in Pennsylvania, Walt Brown was warming up an ill-handling car, the Jack Robbins Special. This car, as the Noc-Out Hose Clamp Special, had been driven to victory in the 1941 Indianapolis 500 by Floyd Davis and Mauri Rose. Brown suffered critical injuries during a slow tumbling accident in the second turn, and died just after arriving at Carlisle Hospital. Meanwhile, at the Winchester Speedway in Indiana, Cecil Green lost control and went over the embankment between the first and second turn while attempting to qualify the J.C. Agajanian "98jr." car. He died on the way to the hospital while the other drivers waited for the ambulance to return. Next in the qualifying line was Bill Mackey, driver of the Joe Langley Special. No sooner had the ambulance returned than Mackey began his qualifying attempt, only to fly out of the track at the same spot Green had, also suffering fatal injuries. Mackey, whose real name was William C. Gretsinger, Jr., had been having reservations about continuing his racing career, in spite of a run of recent success, including the recent participation in his first Indianapolis 500 in May. During the second wait for the ambulance to return, drivers in the qualifying line had considerable time to ponder the hazards of their profession. Fortunately, the next driver up was the inimitable Duane Carter, the defending AAA Midwest sprint car champion. He had come to Winchester only because promoter Frank Funk had offered him a special appearance bonus to assure himself of at least one "headliner," while most of the stars were racing at Williams Grove. Without a flicker of reluctance, Carter raced through three consecutive laps, all under the track record. After establishing these records and winning the fast qualifier of the day accolades, he proceeded to win both his preliminary heat race and the day's feature race.
