Jeffrey Earnhardt makes superspeedway debut at Talladega
Posted by: | CommentsArticle by Heather Baggett
Oct 29, 2010
TALLADEGA – When it comes to NASCAR and superspeedway racing the name Earnhardt has been synonymous with winning.
Dale Earnhardt, known as the Intimidator, placed his stamp on Talladega Superspeedway and Daytona International Speedway. His son Dale Earnhardt Jr. followed in his footsteps, finding victory lane at both tracks multiple times.
There is now a new generation of the Earnhardt family making his debut at Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday in the Camping World Truck Series’ Mountain Dew 250.
Jeffrey Earnhardt, son of Kerry Earnhardt, grew up watching the men in his family race cars for a living. He’s now doing the same thing and has worked his way up to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. After competing in a few truck races this season, Earnhardt is now preparing for his Superspeedway debut at Talladega.
To help get his name out, Earnhardt has spent the past month in Alabama, speaking to children about fire safety and making the rounds at various civic groups. While he admitted to being a little nervous about the idea of basically living in Alabama for a month leading up to the race, Earnhardt said he’s had fun with the experience.
“At first I wasn’t real sure how it was going to go because I’ve never really done much of it,” he said. “I’ve enjoyed it. I’m really glad we did it.”
As for racing at Talladega Superspeedway, Earnhardt said he has mixed emotions entering the race weekend.
“It’s exciting and nervous at the same time,” he said. “I’ve never done it (Superspeedway racing). I’ve played it on the racing simulator. I race Talladega about every night with a bunch of online people. I do good on there or I do decent on there anyway, when I’m not getting wrecked or wrecking somebody.”
In respect to the wrecks, the real experience may not be much different than the video game. Talladega is known for spectacular crashes.
“I think it’s going to be a learning experience,” Earnhardt said. “The biggest thing at Talladega is just getting people to work with you. You can be dead last and you can be in the front in three laps. It’s a matter of who you get to work with you and who you make alliances with. It all comes down to the last lap and who stays out of the big wreck.”
The young Earnhardt said he’s gotten a lot of racing advice from his father, who also races. But when it comes to learning he’ll take advice wherever he can get it.
“My dad’s been a big help,” Earnhardt said. “My dad’s always been there from the start and really taught me a lot about being patient and just doing what your car’s capable of. That’s really the biggest thing I’ve learned in racing. If you’re patient and there at the end, you’re going to make yourself look like a lot better driver.
“A lot of other veterans in the series have helped a lot. I’ve talked to Austin Dillon; he’s been a big help to me at the races. (I take advice) from wherever I can get it. If someone’s willing to help me, I’m willing to take the advice and hear them out.”

Hendrick Motorsports announces 2011 sponsors
Posted by: | CommentsDUPONT EXTENDS SPONSORSHIP
OF JEFF GORDON'S NO. 24 TEAM
NEW CONTRACT WILL TAKE HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS RELATIONSHIP INTO THIRD DECADE
CONCORD, N.C. (Oct. 28, 2010) -- Hendrick Motorsports announced today that DuPont will continue its longstanding relationship with four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon with a three-year agreement to remain a primary sponsor of the No. 24 Chevrolet team through the 2013 season.
DuPont, which has maintained a presence on Gordon's cars since his Sprint Cup debut in November 1992, will have primary paint schemes in 14 races annually beginning next season. The agreement will extend one of NASCAR's most enduring sponsor-driver relationships into its third decade.
"I can't remember what it was like to race without DuPont on board," said Gordon, 39, who with 82 Sprint Cup victories is sixth on NASCAR's all-time wins list. "We've had such an incredible ride together, and I've learned so much about how DuPont applies science and innovation to make a positive difference in the world. It means a lot to me to keep it going for at least another three seasons.
"DuPont has supported me throughout my Cup career, and I feel like we have more wins and championships ahead."
DuPont, which will have prominent brand placement on the No. 24 Chevys in every Sprint Cup race in 2011, 2012 and 2013, will celebrate its 20th anniversary with Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports in November 2012.
"We are proud to continue our relationship with Jeff, Hendrick Motorsports and the No. 24 car. This continues to be a unique opportunity to showcase DuPont innovations," said Cynthia C. Green, chief marketing officer, DuPont. "We look forward to putting the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet on the racetrack for another three years and winning more championships with Jeff and Hendrick Motorsports."
With the exceptions of only auto manufacturer Chevrolet (1984) and tool supplier MAC Tools (1986), DuPont is Hendrick Motorsports' longest-standing corporate partner. The 2011 Sprint Cup campaign will mark the company's 19th full season with a presence on the No. 24 Chevys.
"I firmly believe Hendrick Motorsports would not be where we are today without DuPont's commitment to our company and our sport," said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. "They took a leap of faith by sponsoring Jeff and the No. 24 team back in 1992, and the relationship has been unbelievable ever since. They are terrific people, and it's extremely gratifying to continue into our 19th full season together (in 2011)."
Hendrick Motorsports and Jeff Gordon have teamed with AARP and AARP Foundation on the Drive to End Hunger, an unprecedented three-year initiative to address the growing problem of hunger among older Americans, including 6 million over the age of 60. Drive to End Hunger will be the majority sponsor of Gordon's #24 Hendrick Motorsports team in 2011, 2012 and 2013, with primary paint schemes in 22 Sprint Cup races annually. The #24 Drive to End Hunger Chevy, which will be unveiled at a later date, will race in the next three Daytona 500 events. With Gordon as its spokesperson, Drive to End Hunger will help the millions of older Americans who are facing hunger across the United States. The effort will engage the NASCAR fan base, corporations and charitable organizations via a text-to-donate program; activation at racetracks across the country; further research on the causes and consequences of hunger in older Americans; and an innovative national grant program that will provide resources to address the problem at a local level. Donations from Drive to End Hunger will benefit the hunger programs of AARP Foundation.
