Another Milestone for Jimmy Blewett, Wins First at New Egypt

New Egypt, NJ (Aug. 31, 2013) – On a night when every feature was decided by one car length or less, Jimmy Blewett of Howell, NJ achieved another milestone in his young but storied career Saturday night as he picked up his first ever victory at New Egypt Speedway in the 30 lap 358 Modified event. Fresh off his first ever dirt win 3 nights earlier, Blewett took the lead on lap 4, and then dueled with defending track champion Ryan Godown over the entire second half of the event to earn the popular victory by just one car length.

Modified Rookie P.J. Oliver and Rick Holsten brought the field to the initial start only to see a 5 car pile up occur in turn two, which sent point leader Billy Pauch to the pits for repairs and ended David Van Horn’s night very early. The restart saw Holsten power to the lead with fifth starting Blewett charging quickly into second. It took only a handful of laps for Blewett to catch Holsten and then another to make the pass for the lead, which occurred on lap 4. Once in front Blewett and Holsten pulled out to a very large advantage, with Blewett in control. A lap 12 caution closed the field back up, and fourth place running Godown quickly charged into second as the green flag flew and immediately started to pressure the leader. Meanwhile, Pauch was charging back from the rear and he raced into third just after halfway. The second half of the event saw Blewett leading Godown and Pauch by just a couple of car lengths, with Godown pulling alongside of the leader on several occasions only to have Blewett masterfully drive back around him. The final 5 laps saw heavy lapped traffic come into play, which Blewett used to his advantage until the final lap. As the white flag flew, Godown mounted one final challenge in the final two turns however Blewett hit his marks perfectly and held on for his first career win at NES. Godown and Pauch crossed the line in second and third, followed by Rocco Infante and Willie Osmun. In a very classy move, Numerous drivers including Godown, Pauch, Osmun and John Stangle drove their cars to victory lane to salute the first time winner with a thumbs-up on their way back to the pit area.

The FASTRAK Crate Sportsman 20 lapper saw Frank Dorry of Ringoes, NJ battle side by side with this years Rookie champ Chuckles Stone for numerous laps, and then with Steve Hicks over the final 5 laps to capture his first win of 2013 by less than a car length. Dorry and Hicks finished one-two after starting on row number 7. Stone completed his best run ever in third place, chased by John Aumick and Matt Carmen.

Mike Haggenbottom of Levittown, PA captured the 20 lap Hilborn/TSRS 305 Sprint Main by half a car length over all-time leading winner Kyle Reinhardt. In an event that was only slowed once early on, Haggenbottom caught and passed Reinhardt with just 3 laps remaining, only to see Reinhardt catch back up and make one last ditch effort on the final turn to fall less than one length short at the finish. Defending champ and current point leader Haggenbottom posted his 4th career win, one behind Reinhardt’s total. Third place went to Mark Bitner driving the Nixon racing #202 for the first time. Adam Carberry, who seemed to be the fastest car on the track until he jumped the wheel of Reinhardt about halfway thru the event going for the lead, held on and finished a solid fourth. Phil Meisner Jr. rounded out the top five.

Sean Frey won his third feature in the 12 lap Fastrak Late Model main event to retake sole possession of the point lead by 1 point. Skip Syester was second and Al Burdge came home third.

Next Saturday Sept. 7, it will be First Responders Night presented by Roma/Investors Bank. All first responders with proper ID will receive FREE grandstand admission and there will be a parade of emergency vehicles on the track during intermission. On the track the 358 Modifieds will take center stage, along with Sportsman and Street Stocks. The Hilborn Fuel Injection/TSRS 305 Sprint Cars will also be on hand competing for the final time at NES in 2013. Racing gets underway at 6pm, with the gates opening at 4pm. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE…

Gary Butler Charges to Second New Egypt Win

New Egypt, NJ (June 8, 2013) – Gary Butler of Phillipsburg, NJ won his second feature of 2013 on Saturday evening as he took top honors in the 30-lap 358 Modified main event. Butler took advantage of a restart on lap 19, charging from 4th to the lead and then went on to beat Billy Pauch by five car lengths at the finish.

Chris Grbac grabbed the lead at the start as Willie Osmun quickly moved to second and shadowed every move that Grbac made. Grbac was not rattled however, as he ran flawlessly our in front thru the opening laps. Butler, who started 10th, quickly moved up to challenge for the fifth spot only to watch 5-time Modified champion Billy Pauch fly by as he advanced to the front. Pauch seemed to be on a mission as he moved into third behind Osmun on lap 12 and began to close in on the two leaders. The yellow slowed the torrid pace with 19 laps in the books setting up a double file restart under the new 2013 fan friendly rule of not going single file until 5 laps remaining. At this point Gary Butler seemed to have leveled out in 6th position and is early race burst was now a memory for most fans. The first attempt to restart found Butler charging around everyone only to have Neal Williams stop on the frontstretch. The second attempt never got past turn two as John McClelland and John Stangle, who were running 4th and fifth tangled. This moved Butler up to fourth, and on the next try he drove around the top three racing side-by-side with Osmun for the lead. Butler then grabbed the lead and pulled away as Pauch battled with Osmun for second. Pauch completed the move in second with five laps remaining but Butler had too much on this night as he took the victory. Pauch settled for second with Osmun crossing the line third. Jimmy Blewett came from deep in the pack to finish fourth and Bob Drayton posted his best finish of the year so far in fifth.

Bob Lineman Jr. of Doylestown, PA also scored his first win since opening night in the 20 lap Sportsman feature event, but in much more dramatic fashion. Lineman got under Ebby Ridge on the final lap and with sparks flying was able to hold on for the win by a mere five feet! Ridge settled for second with Clay Butler, Kevin Vaclavicek, who came back from and early race tangle, and Mike Lyons rounding out the top five. Vaclavicek had an eventful evening as he captured his fourth career win early in the night winning the 20 lap make-up feature from May 18th. John Cornell and Mike Howardson were a very close second and third, followed by Lyons and Lineman.

The TSRS 305 Sprints were on hand with 35 cars in the pit area and Mario Page took a spectacular win in the 20 lapper. Page lead the entire event over Chuck Palmucci, and Palmucci mounted a late race charge over the final 6 laps. Palmucci pulled alongside of Page to lead lap 19 by a wheel and then went in front in turn one. But Page drove back under him with an incredible power move in turn three and four, incredibly getting the car to stick as they exited the final turn. Palmucci was not done however as he pulled back even with him in the final drag race down the front straightaway with the two cars touching about 10 yards from the finish line and Palmucci spinning wildly across the finish line backwards just 1/100 of a second behind Page!! Palmucci fortunately spun thru an opening between victory lane and the first turn guard rail in a cloud of dust unscathed in what certainly will be remembered as one of the most memorable finishes ever at NES.

Bill Liedtka captured his second win of the season in the Street Stock 20 lap feature and has taken the lead in the points as well. Jarrod Burdge was second followed by Dan Collamer, Gary Klimeczak and Billy Wroble.

Next Saturday, June 15, New Egypt Speedway will give the FASTRAK Crate Sportsman and TSRS 305 Sprints a chance to headline as the 358 Mods will be off for Father’s Day to prepare for the big Tuesday 6/18 DIRTcar tour event. The Street Stocks and FASTRAK Late Models will compete as well with the Street Stocks making up their rained-out feature from May 18th. It will also be Country Western night, with prizes being awarded to the best Cowboy and Cowgirl! In addition to all of this, the Dad’s of the drivers will race in special races at the end of the evening in their son’s cars! Gates open at 4:00 p.m. with the first race starting at 6:00 pm. Horton Beats All Obstacles to Win New Egypt RoC Cabin Fever 60

New Egypt, NJ (March 23, 2013) – Jimmy Horton of Neshanic, NJ defeated everything at New Egypt Speedway Saturday evening including the track as he captured the 60 lap RoC Tour Modified feature event. The “Cabin Fever 60” season opener had fierce competition throughout the event on a less than perfect early Spring track surface. “The track was the same for all of us,” stated the winner in victory lane, “We all got beat up but it was a lot of fun racing back and forth for the lead the way we did with Ryan (Godown) and Billy (Pauch). I am sure the fans loved it!”

Matt Sheppard and Billy Decker brought the 27 car star studded field to the green flag with Sheppard grabbing the early lead. Sheppard led the field for the first 10 laps as 3rd starting Sammy Piazza challenged for the lead. By lap 15 Horton, who had started 6th was challenging for the lead with ninth starting Billy Pauch right with him. The duo passed Sheppard on either side simultaneously with Horton taking command. This was short lived as Pauch worked hard on him to get by as defending NES champ Ryan Godown beared down on the two. These three perennial NES stars traded the lead numerous times for over the middle portion of the race while the fans wildly cheered them on as each got to collect lap money. Just after halfway Sheppard dropped out with mechanical issues and shortly after that Pauch retired pit side as well. With 20 laps remaining Godown got a flat and after getting new rubber rejoined at the rear of the field. Piazza and 16th starting Craig Von Dohren now took up the chase and began to pressure Horton, with Piazza leading again momentarily. Horton again was up to the challenge as he took the lead back. The final 10 laps saw numerous yellows for cars breaking, but saw more action than this article could do justice as this event will surely be one of the favorites to buy at the video stand. With 6 laps remaining David Van Horn charged into third only to roll over the cushion and flip in turn one, and with 3 laps remaining Piazza broke while running third. This final caution set up a wild restart with Rick Laubach making a move that many described as one of the best they have ever seen, going from seventh in turn one to second in by turn two driving right down the middle between 5 cars! Laubach quickly chased after Horton, but Horton drove away for his 20th career victory at the speedway. Laubach ran second until he lost the handle in the final turn, causing a collision and then a mad scramble the final 100 yards to the finish line. Jimmy Blewett finished second with Godown completing an impressive comeback in third. Laubach crossed the line fourth with Von Dohren taking fifth. Completing the top ten were Bobby Varin, defending RoC champ Danny Johnson, Pat Ward, Neal Williams and Sammy Martz.

Ken Hammond of Berkshire, NY captured his first win at NES in the 30 lap RoC Sportsman tour race. Hammond raced in or near the top five the whole race before finding grooves that worked in each turn and charging up to challenge the leader. He passed early race leader & teammate Eddie White for second with five laps remaining and then got by NES regular DJ Ruppert with less than 2 laps remaining to post his second career RoC tour win. Ruppert had to settle for second for the second straight year in this race, while White crossed the line third. Jim Housworth and 2012 NES champion Clay Butler rounded out the top five.

Next Saturday, March 30, New Egypt Speedway will host its annual practice day from 12noon-5pm. All divisions will be practicing and fans are invited to come and watch free of charge. Then on April 6th NES will kickoff the 2013 regular season with a full card of 358 Modifieds, Sportsman, and Street Stocks. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. with the first race starting at 6:00 pm. For more information call the speedway office at (609) 758-1900 or log on to www.newegyptspeedway.net. You can also follow New Egypt Speedway this season on Facebook and Twitter.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE…

J.J. Grasso Reigns Over Mother Nature at New Egypt

New Egypt, NJ (July 7, 2012) – On a night when it seemed that Mother Nature would be the big winner, New Egypt Speedway and J.J. Grasso of Pedricktown, NJ had other ideas. Despite two different rain delays, speedway management persevered completing the entire URC Sprint portion of the event, along with all of Modified qualifying, the fan-favorite Modified match races and the speedway’s famous fireworks show. Grasso showed his old form in the 25-lap Rislone URC Sprint main event as he took the lead on lap #3 and sped to his 7th career win at the speedway in the event sponsored by RJS Heating and A/C & Dustin’s Mechanical. Tad Cox surprised the Modified field by winning the final 8 match races to pocket a cool $850 for his efforts.

“What a great job NES did getting this event in tonight!,” raved Grasso in the winner’s circle, “I am so thankful to everyone for everything they did, and also to my crew who gave me a great car tonight.”

Last year’s winner Josh Weller grabbed command at the start from the outside of the front row with 4th starter Grasso and polesitter Robbie Stillwagon chasing him. Grasso wasted no time, as he slid up in front of Weller off turn four to lead lap three. Grasso then pulled away, although Weller kept up the torrid pace thru lapped traffic till the first yellow of the race came out on lap 14 for Kyle Purks who had come to a stop in turn four. Grasso held the lead thru several more restarts over the next 7 laps, including one for a wild end-over-end flip by Andy Best in turn four, who was uninjured. With five laps remaining Stillwagon had taken over second and seemed to have enough to keep pace with Grasso, but he could not muster up enough speed to challenge him seriously. This was evident when with three laps remaining Grasso turned a race best 14.5 second lap, rivaling the times the 410 sprints have turned in past events at NES. For Grasso it was his 21st career URC victory, his first of 2012.

Stillwagon settled for a solid second while Davey Sammons came from 10th and recorded an impressive third place effort. Fourth was Davie Franek and Weller came home fifth.

With two different rain-delays speedway management was forced to postpone the 30-lap Modified feature. The date will be announced soon.

Next Saturday night, July 14, New Egypt Speedway will present their always famous Christmas in July spectacular sponsored by Advantage Financial.

This is the annual U.S. Marine Corp. Toys for Tots fund drive, and each new unwrapped toy donation (or $5 cash donation) will get you a ticket to win one of the many great gifts being given away by Santa, NES and Advantage Financial. Action on the track will feature Twin features for the Big-Block Modifieds, and they will be joined by full shows for the Sportsman and Outlaw Stocks. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. with the first race starting at 6:00 pm. For more information, call the speedway office at

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE…

Ryan Godown Wins Thriller at New Egypt

New Egypt, NJ (May 19, 2012) – Ryan Godown of Ringoes, NJ won his second feature of the season at New Egypt Speedway Saturday night winning the 30 lap main event on Banner night sponsored by Buhler Auto Group. Godown passed Billy Pauch Jr. for the lead with just two laps remaining to pick up his 16th career win at the facility.

John Stangle grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag and immediately pulled away from the field in impressive fashion. Billy Pauch Jr. charged up to second as he and Dave Witte tried to keep pace with Stangle. A lap eight caution bunched the field up, however Stangle was just as impressive on the restart as he again opened up a half of a straightaway lead. Point leader Ryan Godown took advantage of this restart as he powered from 11th to 6th in one lap showing everyone that he was going to figure into the outcome. Godown marched to third by the halfway mark as he began to challenge Pauch Jr. for second while Billy Pauch moved into fifth after starting 15th. With 10 laps to go Pauch Jr. and Godown were beginning to close in on Stangle who was driving the race of his life, catching the leader with 6 laps to go. The ensuing battle brought the crowd to their feet Godown used the low groove and Pauch Jr. rim rode the outside around Stangle in what became a two lap 3-wide battle for the lead! Pauch Jr. finally wrestled the lead away from Stangle on lap 26 but Godown got by Stangle as well and quickly pulled back up along side of him as they approached the beginning of lapped traffic. With just two laps remaining Godown edged in front of Pauch Jr. as they ran side by side all the way around the speedway. The final lap saw Pauch Jr. make one final hard charge into turn one getting him back up alongside of Godown again only to have his right rear tire shred as he exited turn number two. The race was not quite over though as John McClelland had been charging thru the top ten over the second half of the race and had just snuck up on the two leaders. He kept the pressure on Godown’s back bumper to the finish but just ran out of time settling for second. Stangle finished third recording his best finish to date at NES, while Willie Osmun and Billy Pauch rounded out the top five. Pauch Jr. drove around the outside to the finish with his flat tire and was still able to cross the line in ninth.

Of the 25 cars that started the event, 23 finished with 22 of them on the lead lap!

John Aumick of Highland Lakes, NJ continued his fast start winning his third event of 2012 in the Crate-1 Sportsman 20 lap feature. Aumick passed race long leader Mike Carman with 5 laps remaining and then held off a fast closing Jordan Henn for the victory. Henn finished second while rookie Carman held on for his best finish ever in third. Jordan Cox was fourth and Felix Verlangieri came from deep in the pack to finish fifth.

The Tri-State Race Saver 305 Sprint Series also came down to the final lap, as Kyle Purks of Langhorne, PA ducked under leader Mike Haggenbottom in turn two and then held on despite one last hard outside run by Haggenbottom for his first ever win at New Egypt Speedway. Haggenbottom was second while Eddie Wagner brought his mount home in third. Jonathan Swanson and Brian Carber were fourth and fifth respectively.

Jesse Dill of Whiting, NJ took top honors in the HCI/Spike-N-Go Rookie Sportsman feature event for the third time. Kimee Ling came home in second while Lauren Emmons was third.

In the twin Fastrak Late Model 12-lap features, Rob Ormsbee of Wall, NJ swept both ends of the event for the third straight time. The first 12 lap event Ormsbee survived the caution filled event beating Tony Giglio and Skip Syester. The second event Ormsbee handled easily besting PJ Oliver and Giglio.

Next Saturday May 26th New Egypt Speedway will be celebrating Memorial Day weekend with a tribute to the military and the fan favorite Twin 20 lap features for the Modifieds, all sponsored by Joy Auto Parts. The winner’s purse from last week’s Modified feature that was withheld from Billy Pauch due to his DQ for a technical infraction, was equally split up and added to the winner’s share for these twin 20 lap events. They will now each pay a cool $2662 to win! Joining the Modifieds on the card will be the Sportsman, the HCI/SpikenGo Rookies and the Outlaw Stocks. Racing gets underway at 6pm, with gates opening at 4pm. For more information, call the speedway office at (609) 758-1900 or log on to www.newegyptspeedway.net.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE…

Koczon is Kozy in New Egypt Victory Lane

New Egypt, NJ (May 5, 2012) – Ron John Koczon of New Egypt, NJ won his first feature in two years at New Egypt Speedway Saturday night winning the 30 lap main event sponsored by Downs Ford. Koczon passed race long leader Tim Tanner Jr. with just 8 laps remaining to score the popular win.

Darren McCaughey used his pole position to lead the field for the first several laps. On lap four Tim Tanner Jr. had closed in and moved under McCaughey for the lead. Tanner was fast and he quickly began to pull away from the rest of the field. As the race neared halfway Tanner was in full command as he cruised a straightaway ahead of the everyone else, while McCaughey continued to hold onto second over Koczon, Tad Cox and Tommy Carberry Jr. Tanner then soon hit heavy lapped traffic and his lead evaporated quickly, however the caution came on before a serious challenge could be mounted. The restart saw Tanner quickly pull away again, but Koczon and Cox moved by McCaughey just after halfway and quickly zeroed in on the leader. With 10 laps remaining they had caught up to Tanner and two laps later Koczon got under him in turn one followed closely by Cox as he followed suit. One lap later Tanner’s motor expired entering turn one ending his great run and bringing out the races final yellow flag. The final seven laps saw Koczon and Cox fly away from all competition, but not from each other as Cox tried everything he could muster to catch Koczon to no avail as it was Koczon crossing the stripe first. Cox drove a superb race finishing second, followed by McCaughey, Carberry Jr. and Neal Williams.

Point leader Bryan Kuhl of Flemington, NJ posted his first win of 2012 in the Crate-1 Sportsman 20 lapper. Kuhl led almost the entire event and cruised to the fourth victory of his career at NES. John Micek ran second holding off two time 2012 winner John Aumick. Jordan Henn and Chuck Steuer rounded out the top five.

In the Tri-State Race Saver 305 Sprint Series, Kyle Reinhardt of Neptune City, NJ was the winner in the 20 lap A Main. Reinhardt took his time as he patiently chased Danny Massey thru heavy lapped traffic, passing him with just 3 laps remaining and going on to his second career feature win at New Egypt. Massey settled for second after leading much of the way.

Opening night winner Brian Carber crossed the line third followed by Mike Haggenbottom and 13th starter Bobby DeVault.

In the HCI/Spike-N-Go Rookie Sportsman feature event, Jesse Dill of Whiting, NJ took the victory in the fifth race of the series, vaulting him into the Rookie point lead. Kimee Ling had her best finish yet so far with a strong second place effort. Lauren Emmons also had her best finish coming home third.

In the twin Fastrak Late Model 12-lap features, Rob Ormsbee of Wall, NJ swept both ends of the event for the second straight time. The first 12 lap event Ormsbee started seventh, grabbed the lead just 4 laps into the event and took the checkered ahead of a fast Cody Dawson and PJ Oliver. In the second event, Ormsbee started sixth and took the lead from Dawson with just 4 laps remaining to go on to his fifth win of the year in six tries.

Again Dawson was second and Oliver third.

Next Saturday May 12th New Egypt Speedway will be celebrating Mother’s Day as each Mom attending the races will get a free potted plant courtesy of Mr. Green Jeans. The Modifieds will headline the show joined by the Sportsman, the HCI/SpikenGo Rookies and the Outlaw Stocks. The Modifieds will also make up the first of the two rained out 20 lap features from April 28th. This will be the second event on the racing card so plan to arrive on time. Racing gets underway at 6pm, with gates opening at 4pm.
