Swindell Kicks At Route 66 With The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series

Bryan Hulbert - AMARILLO, Texas (June 9, 2018) Fighting through a rain delay that kept track crews busy all night, Route 66 Motor Speedway was lightning fast with Tennessee's Sammy Swindell wrestling the A.G. Rains owned No. 3 to victory with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com in round-two of the ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek.

"I feel really blessed to be here. There's not too many people my age who get to come out here and do this or be this competitive, so I'm grateful to the Lord for that. Looking forward to a lot more wins and it's great that everyone stayed, they did the best they could with this track and made it pretty fast at the end," stated Swindell who at 62 years old picked up his 16th career win with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com.

Nearly seeing his A-Feature end as it started, the first attempt at green saw Swindell and Colt Treharn make contact going into the first turn; ending the night for Colt with his front axle in two pieces. Able to continue, the contact left Sammy with his hands full the remainder of the 30-lap event as the right rear shock was ripped from the lower arm along with a damaged Jacobs Ladder.

"The incident we had on the start, I didn't know the guy was still there, but we broke the shock and bent the ladder up. The car was good, just a little bit tight, but when I got into traffic it was real tight," commented Swindell. "Even being broke, the car still rolled good."

Keeping any challenge at bay through several restarts, traffic, and dirty air played havoc on Swindell, but it was not enough to allow anyone a chance to advance. Winning by 2.841 seconds, the runner-up position went to Matt Covington who came to the line with Travis Rilat in tow. Rolling from the 12th starting spot, restarts were pivotal for the BDS Motorsports No. 1. Opening his entry into turn one, Rilat would diamond to the bottom and rocket down the backstretch, clearing three and four drivers at a time before finally settling into third, despite several holes in the right sideboard from Colt Treharn's front axle.

Coming from eighth, Blake Hahn crossed fourth with Harli White posting her best finish of the 2018 season in fifth. Ripping through the field from 18th, series point's leader Sam Hafertepe, Jr. was the night's CP-Carrillo Hard Charger with a run to sixth. Tony Bruce, Jr. in seventh was trailed by Scott Bogucki from 14th. Skylar Gee was ninth with Jamie Ball moving up six spots to tenth.

Hafertepe Wins A Wild West Texas Shootout To Kick Off The ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek

Bryan Hulbert - LUBBOCK, Texas (June 8, 2018) Holding off the charge of Seth Bergman on the closing lap of Friday's 30 lap A-Feature at West Texas Raceway, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. picked up his second National Tour win of the season to kick off the 2018 Lucas Oil ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek.

"I knew he [Seth] was coming, lapped cars just had us so bottled up. Running the top in clean air was the best place to be and I'll be honest, once we got rolling and got the tire pressure built up, we didn't have our car really where it needed to be; especially in traffic. This track threw us a curveball all night so to sneak out of here with a win is awesome," commented Hafertepe, who despite not feeling the car was at it's best, lapped up to ninth place.

Trading the lead with Travis Rilat through two starts to open things up, the BDS Motorsports No. 1 set the pace with Hafertepe giving chase. Into traffic in a matter of lap, West Texas Raceway offered grooves from top to bottom with Rilat using them all to hold off the Hills Racing Team No. 15h.

Mired in non-stop traffic, the backmarkers went the way of Travis until Lap 18.
Pinched going into the third turn trying to advance past the No. 99, Hafertepe shot the bottom line to take over the lead. Pulling away to a half straightaway advantage as Seth Bergman rolled into the picture, the red flew on Lap 20 for Rilat as the No. 1 went upside-down in the second turn after contact with the outside wall. Travis was okay.

Restarting with a trio of slower cars between the first two positions, Hafertepe used full advantage to pull a nearly 1.5-second advantage before finding traffic again on Lap 23.

Forced to move around the three-eighths-mile oval, Seth Bergman was running his Oil Field Equipment and Manufacturing No. 23 for all it had. On Sam with two laps to go, Seth worked the bottom of the first and second turns with Hafertepe able to use traffic to keep Bergman at bay. Set up for the run on the closing lap, Seth was there again in turns one and two. Still not able to make the pass, Seth railed the top of the third and fourth turns as Sam ran down a slower car.

Barely clearing the slower machine in the middle of turns three and four, it was just in time to hold off Bergman at the line. Entering tied for the point's lead, the win advanced Sam Hafertepe, Jr. back to the top of the standings by eight over Seth Bergman.

Picking up the night's CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night, Sammy Swindell rolled from 11th to third. John Carney II in fourth was followed by eighth starting Jake Bubak to complete the top-five. Scott Bogucki crossed sixth with Pennsylvania's Mark Smith in seventh. Having to drop to the tail after spinning on the opening laps, Johnny Herrera fought back from 22nd to eighth. Harli White and Matt Covington completed the top-ten.

A field of 22 drivers on hand dropped into three Heat Races with wins going to Scott Bogucki, Seth Bergman, and John Carney II. No B-Feature was needed.

The Lucas Oil ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek continues Saturday, June 9 at Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas with the action getting underway at 7:00 P.M. (CDT). Admission is $20 for adults, $10 for youth 5-10, and free into the grandstand for kids four and under.

Hafertepe Revs Things Up With ASCS Gulf South At RPM Speedway

Bryan Hulbert - CRANDALL, Texas (May 25, 2018) Winning for the 12th time with the Griffith Truck and Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. picked up his third ASCS sanctioned win in a row with his score at RPM Speedway on Friday night in the Hills Racing Team No. 15h.

Racing from the seventh starting position, Hafertepe rolled to second with the lead in the hands of Terry Gray. Searching the track, the race's final caution with three laps to go sent Hafertepe to the high line on the No. 10 of Gray to secure the top spot. Working back to the bottom of the Speedway, Hafertepe worked to hit his marks as the high line was wide open for Blake Hahn.

Restarting fourth at the Lap 22 caution, Hahn grabbed the runner-up spot from Terry Gray at the wave of the white flag. Letting the Griffith Truck and Equipment No. 52 sail the cushion through the final two turns, the top two spots were nearly nose to tail at the drop of the checkered flag. Terry Gray ended up third with Channin Tankersley and Ray Allen Kulhanek to complete the top-five.

Sixth went to Matt Covington with 12th starting Dustin Gates racing to seventh. Harli White in eighth was followed by Michael Day with Louisiana's Koty Adams moving from 18th to finish 10th.

The Griffith Truck and Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region races again on Saturday, May 26 at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas. Gates open at 6:00 P.M. with racing at 8:00 P.M. Along with the Gulf South Region, the night includes USRA Modifieds, Limited Modifieds, and Factory Stocks. Admission is $20 with Seniors, Military, and kids 13-15 admitted for $10. Children 12 and under get into the grandstands for free. Pit Passes are $30.

ASCS National Sprint Series

Bryan Hulbert - SAPULPA, Okla. (May 18, 2018) Taking off from the front row with the No. 15d of Andrew Deal, it was the No. 15h of Sam Hafertepe, Jr. who took off with the lead and never looked back with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley's Racing Products.

Getting laps at the Oklahoma quarter-mile in preparation for a Speedweek return on Thursday, June 14 with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, Hafertepe was chased to the line by Matt Covington who trailed by 2.128 seconds.

Struggling with mechanical issues in his Heat Race, Blake Hahn was on a mission when the green flag dropped for the 25 lap affair, cutting a path from 16th to third with Wayne Johnson and Tyler Thomas, from 10th, rounding out the top-five.
Sean McClelland in sixth was trailed by Micky Walker from 11th. Cannon McIntosh from 13th was eighth with Harli White ninth. From the 20th starting spot, Fred Mattox completed the top-ten.

The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley's Racing Products goes green again at Lawton Speedway on Saturday, May 19 with action getting underway at 8:00 P.M. (CT). Admission is $15 for adults with kids five and under free. Lawton Speedway is located at 3501 SW Sheridan in Lawton, Okla. Bryan Hulbert - LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (May 12, 2018) Scoring his first victory of the 2018 season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. had to hold off Sammy Swindell to get the job done at I-30 Speedway this past Saturday night.
Entering Saturday fourth in tour standings, Sam leaves I-30 Speedway tied with Seth Bergman for the National Tour point's lead with the nod to Bergman who has a pair of wins on the season.

"For the fifth night on this car, we're making strides. Jack Elam called me, and he asked if there was anything he could do, and I said it wasn't anything a little wrench won't fix. We've been working hard the last couple days. We were really disgusted after Lakeside to start on the front row and fall back like we did, but to come out tonight and start fifth and get to the front it was awesome, and winning on Mother's Day Weekend, I have to just thank my Mom and wish her a Happy Mother's Day."

Taking the lead with a Lap 15 pass through turns three and four on race long leader Derek Hagar, the two-time National Tour Champion was joined at the front by Swindell on Lap 18. Clawing his way to second from the 16th starting spot, a restart with three laps to go locked Sammy on the back bumper of the Heidbreder Foundation No. 15h.

"Sammy just had an unfortunate Heat Race. It was one of the last ones where the track changed to the bottom where it was hard to pass, so that's why he had to start that far back, but I knew he'd be coming. He's got this track's number and we all know that he's the guy we have to hold off no matter if he started 16th of 20th, he'd be coming," stated Sam on the front straightaway.

Hafertepe's 31st career Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com triumph, the second attempt at green after Harli White spun in the first and second turns put Sam to third behind Derek Hagar and Wayne Johnson to start things off.

Working Lap 2, the red lights blinked on as Seth Bergman flipped going into turn three. Seth was unharmed, and the race resumed with Hagar starting to put distance over the field. Still chasing Wayne Johnson for second, Hafertepe worked multiple grooves with the No. 2c able to hold until Lap 11 when the cushion in the first turn bit, and sent Wayne flying. Able to stay upright, Wayne rejoined at the tail.

Taking over second with Sammy Swindell already up to third, Hafertepe kept pace with the No. 9jr before finally diving to the lead through the third and fourth turns on Lap 15. Caution working Lap 17 for Skylar Gee who slowed drastically in turn-three with the field bearing down, the laps rolled back to 16 complete with Hafertepe taking off with the lead.

Slowed again on Lap 19, Swindell was all over Hafertepe for the lead. Able to utilize the center through turns one and two to keep his momentum up, Swindell pulled even with Sam at one point, but would not be able to complete the pass.

Never out of striking distance, it was high-speed chess as the pair began racing among the back makers, only to have the caution waved for the final time with three laps to run.

Taking the center through the first and second turns to try and get a run on Hafertepe for the lead, Swindell still trailed with all other attempts coming up short.

Sammy's 33rd career podium finish with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, the wily veteran was joined by three-time National Tour Champion, Tim Crawley, who advanced from the 11th starting spot. Along with Sammy, the "Crawdaddy" was among the few who could make the top of the track work in the feature.

Derek Hagar held on to finish fourth with Marshall Skinner making up the top-five. Picking up the CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night, Howard Moore advanced position 15 times to finish sixth. Oklahoma's Tyler Thomas from 15th crossed seventh with Blake Hahn eighth. Matt Covington put on a charge from 17th to ninth with Johnny Herrera finishing 10th.
Overall, 38 drivers took to the I-30 Speedway on Saturday night. Heats numbered five with Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Derek Hagar, Travis Rilat, Blake Hahn, and Dale Howard picking up wins. A pair of BMRS B-Features went to Cody Gardner and Matt Covington. Two Owner Points Provisionals were used by Roger Crockett and Scott Bogucki. One Regional provisional was awarded to Kevin Hinkle.

Next for the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com will be the start to Speedweek at West Texas Raceway in Lubbock, Texas on June 8.

Seth Bergman Excels At Lakeside Speedway With The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series

(May 10, 2018) The first repeat winner of the 2018 season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, Washington's Seth Bergman tracked down his first career Lakeside Speedway triumph to become the fifth National Tour winner in just as many events at the Kansas oval.
"This was a tough field. I was trying to conserve my tires there at the beginning because the track was wearing tires all night, but we got to a point where [Brian] Brown lid me and I knew I had to get going," stated Seth who went slide for slide with Brown following a Lap 9 restart.

"That race was a workout. I don't know if I've ever driven that hard, but Brown made me get up on the wheel and I think I caught Tony because he was out front and just didn't know where the track was going. He was leaning on the cushion the whole race, and when you're leading, it's hard to move around and search. I was just fortunate enough to be able to mix it up and found a lane that worked."

The third driver to lead the way in Thursday's McCarthy Auto Group KC Klassic A-Feature, Seth found the center line coming into play as the race approached Lap 20. With Stewart railing the cushion at both ends of the four-tenths mile oval, Seth began quickly cutting down his advantage. Setting up for the run with 19 laps complete, Bergman was able to race to the lead on the following lap.

"When you're the leader, it's hard to search and know if rubber comes in. The guy behind you are able to search around and find it, and the two guys that finished ahead of us are really good Racecar drivers and really good Sprint Car drivers," stated Stewart who ended up third for the second night in a row as Brian Brown worked by Stewart's Rush Truck Centers No. 14 on Lap 21.

Chasing Jack Dover the first round, Stewart stuck the right rear to the cushion and grabbed the lead on the second lap with both crossing the line at the same time. Caution on Lap 9 for Harli White who slowed off the second turn, the restart was short lived as Robbie Price and Paul Nienhiser tangled in the first turn with Nienhiser keeping his No. 9 rolling, and thus, keeping the fifth position. Falling to sixth as the field rolled again on the next restart, Paul's night ended with mechanical issues on Lap 12.

Coming to a stop on Lap 14 with Jamie Ball and Chris Martin tangling on the backstretch, the race resumed with Stewart leading over Dover, Bergman, Brown, and Hafertepe in the top-five. Immediately pulling away as Bergman slide Jack Dover to second, the center groove in play put Seth able to run down the No. 14 and lead the final six laps.
Brian Brown in second advanced nine positions to pick up the night's CP-Carrillo Hard Charger.

"My team, Chad, Michael, Dad, everybody on the Casey's General Store/FVP car did good. I just didn't do my job in the Heat Race and got us buried and really at one point, I passed Seth a couple times so I'm kind of kicking myself for not being able to secure that spot because that could have been me standing there, but Seth did a great job."

Jack Dover slipped to fourth in the closing laps with Sam Hafertepe, Jr. making the top-five. From 10th, Wayne Johnson came up to finish sixth with Blake Hahn coming to seventh from 12th. Scott Bogucki grabbed eighth with Terry McCarl ninth. Johnny Herrera from 16th completed the top-ten.

A field of 30 drivers was on hand for the McCarthy Auto Group KC Klassic. Into four Heat Races, wins went to Mason Daniel, Seth Bergman, Scott Bogucki, and Tony Stewart. The night's B-Feature went to Ayrton Gennetten. Three provisional starts were used. On National Tour owner points, Roger Crockett and Matt Covington entered with Curtis Evans qualifying for a Regional Provisional.
