AFTER THREE STRAIGHT RAINOUTS NASCAR STOCK CAR RACING RETURNED TO GRANDVIEW ON SATURDAY NIGHT WITH WINS GOING TO VONDOHREN, SIPE AND BELTZ IN FRONT OF STRONG CROWD

BECHTELSVILLE, PA May 29, 2016 . . . Paint swapping, racing action finally returned to the 1/3-mile high banks of Grandview Speedway on Saturday night following a three-week vacation courtesy of Mother Nature.

T.P.Trailers NASCAR 358 Modified action saw rookie Modified racer and 2015 Sportsman point champion Brett Kressley squeezed out of the lead by defending point champion Craig VonDohren on the white flag lap in the 30-Lap feature. VonDohren went on to score his second win of the season in which he also received $250 from T.P. Trailers and a $150 bonus in products from VP Racing Fuel for running their gasoline. VonDohren gave credit to Kressley on the battle the two ensued and also to Brad Missimer and the entire track crew for the preparation prior to the event.

Bryon Sipe became the fourth different BRC NASCAR 25-lap Late Model feature winner as he led from start to finish to stand in victory lane for the first time since his last win June 23, 2007. Sipe left for a few years and figured he’d return to the only track where he won a feature. He also garnered $100 from T.P. Trailers and also the Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award.

A new name entered the winner’s circle in the NASCAR Sportsman feature when Ryan Beltz, who has been competing for several years but never quite able to win, finally got the monkey off his back to win his first 25-lap NASCAR feature. An elated Beltz commented that the crew only consists of himself and his father and thanked his wife Stephanie for putting up with his racing career.

Twelve different drivers have now made it to victory lane in feature races in all three divisions after five weeks of racing.

NASCAR stock car racing action returns to Grandview Speedway on Saturday, June 4 with another great tripleheader card featuring the T.P.Trailers NASCAR 358 Modifieds, BRC Late Models and Sportsman with racing starting at 7:30 p.m. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m.

Ron Seltmann Jr., who won his first Modified feature last season, set the pace for four laps before Steve Swinehart, returning to action this year behind the wheel of the Ron Krex No. 9K, took over the lead.

The yellow was displayed on the seventh lap when Chris Esposito stopped in the second turn. S. Swinehart held his own on the restart, but now he had to contend with his day Ray in second trailed by Jared Umbenhauer, Mike Kellner and Doug Manmiller.

Charging towards the front on the outside was Kressley and by the 13th lap he held down the runner-up position. Behind them, R. Swinehart, VonDohren and Manmiller diced for third through fifth.

Kellner brought out the final caution on the 16th lap when he spun in the fourth turn. This time Kressley shot into first with R. Swinehart, S. Swinehart, VonDohren and Mike Gular in pursuit. It didn’t take Kressley long to outdistance himself from the rest. VonDohren regained second on lap 22 and set sail after Kressley who began to encounter lap traffic.

VonDohren closed the gap and made several advances, but to no avail since Kressley held his challenges off. Von Dohren ran Kressley up high numerous times trying to dive under, but couldn’t capitalize on it.

Coming out of turn four for the one to go signal VonDohren took Kressley up a little higher and was able to squeeze him back to second.

The lead never changed and VonDohren chalked up his second with Kressley a well-deserved disappointing second trailed by R. Swinehart, Gular and St. Swinehart, who posted his best finish. Sixth through tenth were Kenny Gilmore, Umbenhauer, Jeff Strunk, Duane Howard and Manmiller.

Seltmann Jr., R. Swinehart and Eric Biehn were the heat winners. The consi was won by Esposito.

Before the first lap of the Late Model feature could be completed the red was thrown when Lou Egrie Jr. hit the first turn wall with heavy impact coming to a rest in the infield between one and two. He got out of the car under his own power, but was shaken up a bit.

When action resumed Sipe was the leader trailed by Devin Frey, Chuck Schutz, driving Buddy Mertz’s No. 00; Drew Weisser and Randy Stoudt.

Weisser found himself in the second turn wall after contact with Stoudt and the yellow was out on lap four. Stoudt was put to the rear for the infraction.

Sipe was still the leader on the restart with Frey, Schutz, Ron Kline and Dave Ogin in tow.

The final caution was on the 14th lap after Ogin and Cory Merkel got together on the backstretch with Merkel spinning. Also involved having nowhere to go were Brian Shuey and Lou Egrie Sr. Only Egrie Sr. could continue. Sipe motored away quickly on the restart.

No one was able to pass Sipe and he went on to claim a well-deserved win trailed by Frey, Schutz, Kline and Ogin. Rounding out the top ten were Bill Henning, Dan Green, Joe Fanelli, Shawn Horning and Egrie Sr.

C. Merkel and Shuey won the qualifying heats.

In Sportsman competition John McGovern took the early lead at the onset of the Sportsman feature.

Battling for positions behind him were rookie Dylan Swinehart, Beltz, Nathan Mohr and Brandon Whitmoyer.

Beltz moved into second on the sixth lap restart needed when Kenny Bock spun in the fourth turn and began to pressure McGovern.

The lead was swapped on the 14th lap just after McGovern picked up the Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award as now Beltz was at the front of the pack.

With five laps to go Swinehart overtook second and took chase after Beltz.

The long wait was finally over for Beltz as he pulled into victory lane for a long overdue triumph. Finishing an impressive second was Swinehart, who showed sportsmanship and went over to congratulate Beltz, followed by McGovern, for his best finish; B. Whitmoyer and Mohr, who also turned in his best run ever. Completing the top ten were Jim Housworth, Craig Whitmoyer, who came from deep in the pack after taking a provisional and starting 27th; Mike Lisowski, Brian Hirthler and Ryan Lilick.

NAPA AUTO PARTS THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES

MS. MOTORSPORTS ARYNNE MOODY TO SING NATIONAL ANTHEM AT THUNDER SERIES OPENER, SUNDAY, MAY 29 AT GRANDVIEW

TRIPLE THUNDER THIRLLER PROGRAM TO INCLUDE BIG BLOCK VS 358 MODIFIEDS, SPORTSMAN & TSRS SPRINTS 7:30 PM

Ms. Motorsports Arynne Moody of Etters, PA will be part of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series open set for Sunday, May 29. This Triple Thunder Thriller event, presented by Pioneer Pole Buildings will find the Big Block Modifieds challenge the weekly 358 Modifieds in a 40 lap main event that will pay $5,000 to the winner, $1,000 for tenth and a hefty $500 payoff just to start the main event.

As an added treat, the talented Ms. Motorsports will also sing the National Anthem in a salute to the red, white and blue on this Memorial Day weekend.

This big racing event will also find the Sportsman and the TSRS Sprints on the card competing in a series of heat race qualifying all leading up to the Triple Thunder Thriller “big 3” feature events. Craig VonDohren, Duane Howard, Jeff Strunk, Billy Pauch Jr, Ryan Watt and Rick Laubach are just a few drivers eyeing the $5,000 payoff. Gates will open at 5 PM with race time set for 7:30 PM.

The popular 2016 Thunder Series schedule has a lot to offer this year including the return of the USAC Non-Wing Sprints in the 10th Annual Eastern Storm. This year, the 358 NASCAR Modifieds will do double-duty with USAC on Tuesday night, June 7. If you have never seen the USAC Non-Wing Sprints at Grandview, this is a “must see” event. Some say watching the USAC time trials along is worth the price of admission. In any case, the norm for the USAC Non-Wing Sprints is plenty of side-by-side racing, numerous slide jobs, some wheelies, a little wheel banging and a bounce or two off the outside wall. So, if you are accustomed to single file races or winners from the pole, you will not see that type of show at Grandview Speedway on Tuesday night, June 7.

The Thunder on the Hill Racing Series mainstay activities and promotions, providing fun for the fans with elements such as: Pre-Race Pit Tours, the Inside/Out Experience - where fans can sign-up to watch hot laps from the infield, the Low Down & Dirty Radio Show pre-race Meet & Greet, JOE "THE PIZZA DUDE", giveaways, fireworks, and appearances by the Thunder Girls will all be part of the coming season, plus a few added surprises presented by GALCO Business Communications and Quaker Steak & Lube restaurants.

NASCAR STOCK CAR RACING FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW GO TO HOWARD, SHUEY AND HENN ON SATURDAY NIGHT

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. May 1, 2016 . . . Racing action was fan pleasing wild and furious at the “fast” 1/3-mile high banks of Grandview Speedway on Saturday night.

Duane Howard survived the numerous skirmishes to become the first repeat winner in the T.P. Trailers NASCAR 358 Modified All-American Racing Series 30-Lap feature. “We were driving like a bunch of animals and there wasn’t one car that wasn’t bent,” commented Howard in victory lane. He also garnered $250 from T.P. Trailers.

Late Model action also had a two-time season winner as Brian Shuey scored his second BRC 25-Lap feature victory in the Scott and Sue Lee-owned No. 177. He also received $100 from T.P. Trailers and the Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award.

Jordan Henn, who has been close on numerous occasions to winning a 25-Lap NASCAR Sportsman feature, finally was able to put the “Moose” Eisenhard No. 77 in the winner’s circle by a narrow margin over runner-up and last week’s feature winner Mike Lisowski to claim a well-deserved first career win. He also was awarded the T.P. Trailers $100 bonus and the Dan’s Deli ½-way Hoagie award.

VP Racing Fuels product awards went to the top finishing racers in each division that used their racing gasoline and carried the proper decals and patches.

NASCAR stock car racing action returns to Grandview Speedway on Saturday, May 7th at 7:30 p.m. when the T.P.Trailers NASCAR 358 Modifieds, BRC Late Models and Sportsman stock cars are in action. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. The weekly Meet and Greet featuring three different drivers and their race cars each Saturday takes place at the main gate at 5:30 p.m. Adult admission is just $15 while youngsters under 12 are admitted FREE.

The Modified feature took three tries to complete one lap in which seven cars were eliminated in the multiple incidents.

When the first lap was recorded Ron Haring Jr. was the early pacesetter followed by Chris Gambler, Ray Swinehart, Tim Buckwalter and Jared Umbenhauer.

Swinehart, who almost rolled his car on one of the many early cautions never losing a position, charged past Haring Jr. on the second lap multi-car caution to become the new leader.

Buckwalter overtook second on the third lap to challenge the veteran leader. He made several bids to pass him, but to no avail as the door was shut on him as Swinehart protected his lead. Advancing to third from his 16th starting spot was 10-time point champion and the point leader going into the feature, Jeff Strunk who was gaining ground on the pair.

Lapped traffic moved into the picture by the half-way mark and by now Strunk was second challenging Swinehart for first.

The lead changed for the third time on the 1th lap when Strunk put the Glenn Hyneman-owned No. 126 into first.

Strunk’s lead was short-lived as mechanical issues sidelined him on the 20th lap which also caused him to drop in the standings giving the lead back to Swinehart.

While Swinehart and Buckwalter diced for first, this allowed Howard, behind the wheel of the Petruska-owned Atlas Paving No. 66 to gain ground on them.

It wasn’t long before a five-car battle brewed between Swinehart, Buckwalter, Howard, Umbenhauer and Craig VonDohren as they all built momentum coming out of the fourth turn.

Howard got a strong run coming off the turns and stormed past Buckwalter and then Swinehart to take charge of the top spot on the 24th circuit.

Jeremy Banos stopped in the second turn with a flat tire unable to pull into the infield bringing out the caution on the 26th lap. Howard held his ground on the restart while Swinehart and VonDohren battled for second with Buckwalter and Umbenhauer waiting in the wings for something to happen.

Something did occur when Swinehart and VonDohren headed into the first turn. Contact was made, Swinehart went around and VonDohren continued with the yellow out on the 28th lap. Umbenhauer barely squeezed by as he made contact and the innocent victim was Ryan Grim being through for the night along with Swinehart. It was still Howard first when action resumed with VonDohren trying to unseat him.

Despite a one-lap shoot-out set up when Danny Erb and Mike Kellner tangled in the fourth turn, Howard went on to chalk up his 70th career win trailed by defending point champion Von Dohren. Finishing third and fourth for their season best outings were Buckwalter and Umbenhauer with Mike Gular, fifth. Sixth through tenth were Doug Manmiller, John Willman, Billy Pauch Jr., Don Norris Jr. and Brian Houseknecht.

Ray Swinehart, Brett Kressley and Steve Swinehart won the heats. The consi went to Chris Esposito.

Drew Weisser was the early leader of the Late Model feature and he held onto that spot until Shuey dove underneath him coming out of the fourth turn on the eighth lap. Weisser didn’t surrender easily as he made several attempts to regain first.

In a matter of time Shuey had a comfortable lead built up and was running up on lap traffic.

The yellow was thrown for Ron Kline when he was stopped in the second turn with a flat tire on the 21st lap. At the same time Weisser relinquished second and pulled into the infield out of competition. Shuey pulled away quickly with Cory Merkel now second giving him a run for the money.

Shuey managed to keep C. Merkel behind him, “not knowing he was there,” and went on to score another win. Following them across were Lou Egrie Jr., Dan Green and Bill Henning. Rounding out the top ten were Lou Egrie, Randy Stoudt, making a rare appearance; Wayne Pfeil, Dave Ogin and Sean Merkel. Chuck Schutz, last week’s winner and defending point champion dropped out early in the event finishing a disappointing 17th.

Bryon Sipe and Weisser were the heat winners.

Rookie Andrew Kreis was the early pacesetter on the Sportsman feature.

The red was thrown on the fourth lap when cars went three-wide in the second turn and found themselves out of racing room. As a result Jim Housworth, who scored his first career victory recently, hit the wall, got turned into traffic and flipped along the backstretch with others involved as they all scattered. All drivers involved were uninjured, with Housworth’s car sustaining heavy damage.

On the restart Mark Kemmerer grabbed the lead trailed by Kreis, another rookie Ryan Higgs along with Henn and Jack Butler, another rookie.

Ken Eckert Jr. brought out the yellow on lap seven as he stopped in the turn one infield at a dangerous spot. The restart was void for a multi-car first turn tangle. On this restart Henn powered into first as Kemmerer seemed to be experiencing problems since he started to fall off the pace loosing several positions.

Challenges for Henn came in the form of Higgs, Kreis, Dean Bachman and Butler with Lisowski, last week’s winner, soon joining the thick of the battle.

Lisowski advanced to second on the 19th lap and set his sights on Henn who had a slight edge built up.

With two laps to go Higgs, who was running a solid third, hit the fourth turn infield marker tire putting him out of contention with the yellow out. Henn was still the leader on the restart with Lisowski giving him no room to error.

It was a drag race to the checkered between Henn and Lisowski, but Henn hung on for the win. Third went to Brett Gilmore followed by Brad Brightbill and Bachman. Completing the top ten were Joe Funk III, Kreis, Butler, Brad Grim and Brian Papiez.

Higgs, Ryan Lilick, Butler and Lisowski were the heat winners. Consies went to Ken Eckert Jr. and Brad Brightbill.

COZZE, SCHUTZ, LISOWSKI, PECK AND SMITH GARNISH FEATURE VICTORIES AT GRANDVIEW SATURDAY NIGHT

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. April 24, 2016 – Nine features have been run at Grandview Speedway since the 2016 April opener and thus far it has produced nine different winners in the three regularly scheduled NASCAR divisions.

Frank Cozze, in his second season behind the wheel of the Tom Umbenhauer-owned/Harry’s U-Pull It sponsored mount now sporting the No. 4, was MIA last week attending his daughter’s wedding. He returned this week and started the evening off right by winning the second heat. He then led the T.P. Trailers NASCAR 358 Modified All-American Racing Series 30-Lap feature from start to finish and one-hour prior to winning the event he learned his son and daughter-in-law made him a grandfather. The 60-year old Wind Gap veteran, who hasn’t won since July 2013, didn’t have an easy task in scoring his second Grandview victory. He dealt with lapped cars, three-wide racing with Kenny Gilmore and eventual runner-up Rick Laubach. “The track was tricky tonight because it was slippery and I didn’t want to make any stupid mistakes with the lap cars commented the elated winner and this win really helped the team.”

Defending late model champion Chuck Schutz and the Ty Zeigler-owned team really worked hard the past week to repair the No. ONE car that suffered significant damage the week before in the feature and arrived late to the track as they were putting the finishing touches on the car. Things finally went better for the seven-time champ as he turned crash into cash this week to score his first win of the season in the BRC NASCAR 25-Lap Late Model feature. He couldn’t thank everyone enough for all their efforts.

Sportsman action proved that it isn’t over until it’s over. After Craig Whitmoyer, at the head of the pack, and Mike Lisowski, glued to his bumper trying to regain control went into the first turn after taking the one to go signal, Whitmoyer bobbled a bit. Lisowski quickly took advantage of the situation and took back the lead. Lisowski went on to score his first win of the year.

Cozze, Schutz and Lisowski received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers, Limerick and the Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie certificate. The Loot For Lap 6 from Gramia’s Restaurant, Boyertown, went to Cozze, Schutz and Brandon Whitmoyer. The Cargo Trailers certificate recipients were Ryan Watt, Modifieds; Corey Merkel, Late Models and Jordan Henn, Sportsman.

On the initial green of the Modified feature, Cozze shot from second and past Bobby Gunther-Walsh to become the early pacesetter.

A homestretch tangle between Brett Kressley and John Willman brought out the first yellow on lap six with Kressley going off on the hook and Willman continued only to drop out later. Cozze held the top spot on the restart while Kenny Gilmore, Rick Laubach, Gunther-Walsh and Kevin Hirthler jockeyed for positions. Anticipating a slip-up so they could advance were Ryan Grim and Jeff Strunk.

By the 16th lap the front runners approached a gaggle of lap cars and had to thread the needle carefully to get by because some didn’t heed the mover-over flag.

The final caution was on the 24th lap when Eric Biehn slowed his pace and was unable to get into the infield quickly enough. As the yellow unfurled Strunk hit the first turn uke tire knocking it onto the track, but didn’t get penalized since it was after the yellow was thrown.

The battle for the lead went three-wide on the restart between Cozze, Gilmore and Laubach with neither one lifting while Grim and Strunk waited for something to happen.

Cozze held off all the competition and went on to claim his second career Grandview win. Grabbing second at the line was Laubach trailed by Gilmore, Grim and Strunk. First through fourth all posted their season best finishes. Jared Umbenhauer, Craig Von Dohren, Hirthler, Duane Howard and Ryan Watt completed the top ten.

Heats winners were Danny Erb, Cozze and Gunther-Walsh. Meme DeSantis won the consi.

Dan Green led four laps of the Late Model feature before Schutz put the Pioneer Pole Building special in first.

Cory Merkel, who was running a solid fourth spun in the fourth turn for the fifth lap caution. Schutz had just moved into first and resumed the position on the restart with Green and Lou Egrie Jr. trying to change the status.

Behind Schutz the action for second was hot and heavy between Green, Egrie Jr., Drew Weisser and Ron Kline with neither one about to give in.

Weisser was in the backstretch wall on the 15th lap after Dave Ogin and he tangled. Ogin continued not losing any spots. Schutz resumed the top spot on the restart while Green, Egrie Jr., Kline and Ogin diced for second through fifth. Soon joining the thick of the battle was opening night feature winner Sean Merkel.

Positions behind Schutz may have constantly been changing, but he never looked back and went on to claim his 41st career win. Finishing second for his season best performance was Green followed by Ogin, S. Merkel and Kline. Rounding out the top ten were Lou Egrie, Egrie Jr., Bill Henning, Brian Shuey, last week’s feature winner, and C. Merkel.

Green and Shuey were the heat winners.

Before the first lap of the Sportsman feature could be scored, an eight-car fourth turn tangle brought out the red. Once things got underway, Brandon Whitmoyer was in charge and immediately pulled away leaving Andrew Kreis, Kurt Bettler, Dylan Swinehart, all rookies second through fourth and Brett Gilmore in tow. Lisowski overtook second on the fourth lap and set his sights on B. Whitmoyer.

It took Lisowski two laps to reel B. Whitmoyer in and one lap to move into first. Behind the pair making it a three-way battle for first was C. Whitmoyer.

C. Whitmoyer overtook his brother Brandon for second on the 12th lap to pressure Lisowski for the top spot. Lisowski and C. Whitmoyer swapped paint many times, but the lead remained the same.

C. Whitmoyer took advantage of lap traffic on the 22nd lap with the pair still rubbing and move into first. After getting the white flag and on his way to a possible victory, C. Whitmoyer slipped up going into the first turn. Lisowski quickly pounced on the situation and was back in front.

Lisowski didn’t give up first and was in victory lane for his sixth career victory with C. Whitmoyer a close second. Finishing third was B. Whitmoyer trailed by Joe Funk and Gilmore. Sixth was Ryan Lilick followed by Brad Brightbill, Jim Housworth, Dean Bachman and Jordan Henn. B. Whitmoyer, Dylan Swinehart and Housworth won the heats. The consi went to Brad Brightbill.

Ronnie Peck, the ’74 and ’75 Grandview Late Model point champion, and Dave Smith were the winners of the two 15-lap Blast From the Past Vintage Car features.
