DYLAN SWINEHART AND BRIAN HIRTHLER SHARE THE LIMELIGHT AFTER WILD NASCAR FEATURES SATURDAY NIGHT AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. July 12, 2020 . . . The saying it’s not over until it’s over certainly held true for the outcome of the T.P. Trailers Modified NASCAR Advanced Auto Parts 30-lap feature and also the 25-lap T.P. Truck Equipment NASCAR Sportsman feature on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway.

In the Modified feature Jeff Strunk, whose last win came August 31, 2019, appeared to be on his way to victory lane with Tim Buckwalter in hot pursuit. Earlier Brett Kressley was the one on the move running a solid second until contact with the lapped car of Louden Reimert caused him to hit the wall and the axle broke sending Kressley into the fourth turn wall as misfortune continued to plaque him. The single file restart with Strunk first and now Tim Buckwalter second had the pair ending up side-by-side rubbing door handles and neither one lifted since both were determined to win. Buckwalter put the Norm Saxton-owned mount in front on the one lap signal. Still swapping paint Strunk made contact with the back bumper of Buckwalter causing both drivers to spin ending a chance to win. The turn of events put early leader Dylan Swinehart in first and he held on to earn his second career win in the Bailey Fabrications No. 81. The ironic part was he won last year on the same weekend.

Sportsman feature action seemed like a new name – Mike Mammana would be added to the win column, but a lapped car and Brian Hirthler dashed those chances as the current point leader won his second feature to be the first repeat winner in the division.

Providing the feature winners met the necessary requirements, they received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers and a certificate from VP Fuels for product awards. The Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award recipients were Strunk and Mammana. Jesse Leiby earned an extra bonus from the track for being the highest finishing crate engine with his third place finish.

Dylan Swinehart, who had two 27th place finishes in the past races, set the pace for nine laps from his second starting grid until Strunk, who started eighth, got underneath him coming out of the fourth turn. Swinehart didn’t give in easily as he stayed right with him trying to regain control.

Within a few laps Strunk began gaining distance over his fellow competitors.

Kressley, took over second on the 15th circuit and took chase after Strunk.

By the 24th lap slower moving traffic allowed Kressley to close the gap Strunk built up and would soon be pressuring him. Unfortunately Kressley made contact with a lapped car which ended his night on the end of a tow truck and the yellow to be thrown. Even though it was a single file restart it didn’t take Buckwalter long to get even with Strunk and the bumping began. After Buckwalter passed Strunk for first and headed into the first turn, Strunk hit the back bumper of Buckwalter and they both went around causing the caution the come out. Quick action on Swinehart’s part while in third, allowed him to inherit the lead.

Swinehart kept hard charging runner-up Jared Umbenhauer at bay on the restart and went on to score the win. Third went to rookie racer in the division Brad Grim followed by Duane Howard and Doug Manmiller. Rounding out the top ten were Ryan Grim, Kyle Weiss, Rick Laubach, Craig Von Dohren and Joe Funk III.

Heat winners were D. Swinehart, Justin Grim, Bobby Gunther Walsh and Mark Kratz. Von Dohren and Mike Gular won the consies.

After two unsuccessful attempts to complete the first lap of the Sportsman feature, polesitter Mammana grabbed the early lead trailed by Jesse Leiby, Jack Butler, Hirthler and Kyle Lilick.

While Mammana opened daylight, a three-way battle for second ensured between Leiby, Butler and Hirthler which allowed Mammana to pull away even more.

Hirthler took chase after Mammana once he took over second on the 11th lap to try to change the status.

Lapped traffic that the front runners came upon on the 17th lap slowed Mammana’s momentum and now Hirthler was reeling him in.

Mammana and Hirthler were constantly switching lanes as the slower cars made it difficult to get past despite being told via in car radio the leaders were right behind.

The lead changed for the second time with two to go when Hirthler slipped underneath Mammana into first.

Hirthler never faltered and went on to victory followed by Mammana, Leiby, Butler and Lilick. Last week’s feature winner Brad Arnold finished sixth with Chris Esposito, defending point leader Brad Brightbill, Parker Guldin and Jimmy Leiby trailing.

Mammana, Kenny Bock and Kenny Gilmore won the heats. The consi was won by Kyle Lilick.

The 3-lap Diamond Disposal Cash Dash sponsored by fellow driver and business owner John McGovern was won by Brad Brightbill for an extra $100. Bock and Mammana each received $50. Brightbill got into the event since K. Gilmore, who won a heat, chose not to participate which allowed runner-up Brightbill a chance to compete.

Next on the schedule at Grandview is an action packed July 18th tripleheader that will feature the United Racing Club Sprint cars, T.P.Trailers Modifieds and T.P. Truck Equipment Sportsman. Expected to head up the action for the Sprinters will such standouts as Josh Weller, Adam Carberry, Curt Michael, Austin Bishop and a host of others.

All three divisions will take part in qualifying events leading up to a 25-lap feature for the Sprinters, 30-lap feature for the Modifieds and 25 laps for Sportsman. The stock cars are all part of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series.

Adult admission is $25 while youngsters 6 through 11 pay $5. Under 6 are admitted free. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. while racing gets the green at 7:30 p.m.

MANMILLER TOPS NASCAR MODIFIED STANDINGS AT GRANDVIEW, BRIAN HIRTHLER LEADS THE SPORTSMAN STANDINGS

MODIFIEDS AND SPORTSMAN IN ACTION ON JULY 11, URC SPRINTS JOIN THE ACTION JULY 18TH

BECHTELSVILLE, PA July 7, 2020 . . . Veteran Modified stock car racing talent Doug Manmiller tops the standings in the T.P.Trailers NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Modified point standings at Grandview Speedway with 576 tallies. Manmiller is looking for his first championship at the Berks County clay oval where he has visited victory lane 28 times.

Brian Hirthler, Sportsman champion in 2017, is looking to add a second title as he leads the early season T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman standings with 477 counters.

Both Manmiller and Hirthler will be looking to improve on their record as they take part in the Saturday, July 11th doubleheader featuring the Modifieds and Sportsman.

Second in the Modified standings is 10-time champion Craig Von Dohren who has racked up 108 career wins at his home track. The last time Von Dohren won a title was in 2017. Von Dohren is just six points behind Manmiller. Jared Umbenhauer holds down third with 566 points. Defending Modified champion Duane Howard sits fourth in the early season point battle with 548 points and Brett Kressley is fifth with 489 counters.

Sitting second in the Sportsman standings is Jack Butler, the winner of the first point race of the season, with 446 points. Mark Kemmerer is third having earned 443 points. Fourth spot is held by veteran Ryan Beltz with 423 tallies followed by defending Sportsman titleholder Brad Brightbill who has earned 399 points in the first two point events of the season.

Saturday’s doubleheader of Modifieds and Sportsman will get the green flag at 7:30 p.m. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. Adult admission is just $15 while youngsters under 12 are admitted free.

The United Racing Club Sprinters will top the program on Saturday, July 18th, for their only appearance of the season. Making it a tripleheader show will be the Modifieds and Sportsman, part of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series. Adult admission will be $25 with youngsters 6 through 11 paying just $5. Kids under 6 are admitted free. As is the norm for Saturday night racing action will get underway at 7:30 p.m.

BRAD ARNOLD A FIRST TIME WINNER OF FIRECRACKER 40 AT GRANDVIEW, KEVIN HIRTHLER GETS MODIFIED VICTORY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. July 5, 2020 . . . Brad Arnold and Brian Hirthler were rubbing wheels and trading paint as they came in for the checkered on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway, but it was Arnold that came out victorious to win his first Firecracker 40-lap T.P. Truck Equipment NASCAR Sportsman feature for a $2,000 payday.

Courteous of Jim and Missy Bowman 3 Sportsman drivers received American Racer right rear SD-48 tires. Parker Guldin received one for being the first driver to get a right rear flat, Brad Brightbill was another recipient since his 10th place finish was the highest finisher that qualified through the consi and a random draw for second through fifth-place finisher went to fourth place finisher Mark Kemmerer. W*T*Fans (We The Fans) awarded Jimmy Leiby $150 for being the highest crate engine finisher and he also received the weekly award of $100 from the track giving him $250 in bonus bucks.

The TP Trailers Modified NASCAR Advance Auto Parts event saw Brian Hirthler end his winless streak by a comfortable margin over runner-up Jared Umbenhauer to collect his first win of the season. The last time Hirthler stood in the Modified victory lane was April 8, 2017.

Rookie racer and polesitter Decker Swinehart grabbed the early lead in the Firecracker 40 trailed by Jimmy Leiby, Mike Mammana, Derrick Smith and Ryan Beltz.

Swinehart had a slight edge built up over his fellow competitors, but by the tenth lap Leiby erased the margin to challenge him.

The lead changed hands on the 11th lap when Leiby moved to the head of the pack.

While Leiby set the pace, Swinehart, Smith, Arnold and Parker Guldin jockeyed for the remaining positions.

Guldin brought out the first yellow when he stopped in the second turn. Leiby was still in the lead when action resumed, but now Arnold advanced to second to challenge him with Hirthler right on his bumper.

A second turn tangle between John McGovern and Nate Mohr on the 21st lap caused the next caution. On the restart Arnold shot to the outside and into the lead. At the same time Ryan Beltz took over the runner-up spot.

Within no time Arnold had a sizeable lead built up, but that was erased when the red flag had to be thrown after early leader Swinehart flipped in the first turn. He was uninjured, but the car sustained heavy damage. When the race resumed Beltz briefly got the edge on Arnold as the pair raced side-by-side, but when the lap counted it was Arnold still in first.

The race for second soon developed into a heated battle between Beltz, Brian Hirthler and Kenny Gilmore with neither one giving up while Mark Kemmerer held down fifth in hopes of advancing a position.

Gilmore’s solid fourth place run ended on the 36th lap when he pulled into the infield out of contention.

With two laps remaining, a tire came off of Lex Shive’s car bringing him to an abrupt halt in turn two for the final yellow. On the single file restart with Arnold first and now Hirthler second, Arnold wasted no time keeping the Esterly Concrete sponsored mount first, but Hirthler stayed right with him trying to gain control.

Coming in for the checkered Arnold and Hirthler were making contact since Hirthler wanted to make things interesting. Arnold was determined to win and never lifted until he pulled into the winner’s circle for his sixth career win with Hirthler right on his bumper for a close second. Following the pair across were Beltz, Kemmerer and Kyle Lilick. Sixth through tenth were Jimmy Leiby, Kyle Smith, last week’s feature winner Jack Butler, Ryan Higgs and Brad Brightbill.

Heat winners were Lilick, Mike Mammana and Jimmy Leiby. K. Gilmore won the consi.

Before the first lap of the Modified feature could be recorded leader Ron Myers spun right in front of the 28-car starting grid causing a nine car tangle. Dylan Swinehart and Eric Biehn were eliminated while the others could rejoin the action at the back of the pack after several made pit stops. Hirthler, who didn’t even qualify for last week’s show, luckily avoided being involved and inherited the lead and wasted no time keeping the Green Lane/Wm Penn, Whitetail Disposal No. 117 first followed by Ryan Grim, Ray Swinehart, Craig Whitmoyer and Jared Umbenhauer.

Swinehart, who had fallen back to seventh, spun in turn four on the seventh lap for another yellow. It was still Hirthler showing the way on the restart with Umbenhauer, Grim, Doug Manmiller and Whitmoyer in tow.

Positions were constantly changing behind Hirthler who increased the distance between himself and his fellow competitors and chasing him down by lap 20 were Umbenhauer, Manmiller, Tim Buckwalter and Whitmoyer. Trying to get into the top five was Craig Von Dohren, who was involved in the first lap incident and he succeeded in two laps to go.

Hirthler kept his rapid momentum, until the drop of the checkered to chalk up his 13th career win. Narrowly posting his season best finish at the line was Umbenhauer followed by Manmiller, for the second week in a row; Buckwalter and Von Dohren. Rounding out the top ten were Whitmoyer, Duane Howard, Brett Kressley, R. Grim and Louden Reimert.

Myers, Howard and Umbenhauer won the heats. The consi was won by Von Dohren.

Coming up at Grandview on Saturday, July 11th is another excitement filled doubleheader featuring the T.P.Trailers Modifieds and T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman, both part of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Series. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. Adult admission is just $15 and those under 12 are admitted free.

URC Sprints join the Modifieds and Sportsman for a giant tripleheader card of racing action on Saturday, July 18th.
