THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES

ALL STAR 410 SPRINTS & NASCAR MODIFIEDS STORM THE HILL THURSDAY NIGHT, AUGUST 22 AS THUNDER ON THE HILL CONTINUES AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA – On Thursday, August 22 the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car series returns to Grandview Speedway to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series.

Presented by Levan Machine and Truck Equipment, the Hodnett Cup combines the 410 Sprint Cars in their final 2019 Grandview Speedway appearance – and the NASCAR 358 Modifieds, in an exciting double-header. Gates open at 5:00 PM and racing starts at 7:30 PM.

While the Thursday night event marks the return of the 410 Sprint Cars, and the return of Tony Stewart’s All Star Series, it will also be the Grandview return of 410 racer Ryan Smith.

One of the most popular drivers among fans, ‘The Kunkletown Kid’ was sidelined after and early-July incident at the Selinsgrove Raceway – and consequently missed the Thunder on the Hill Speedweek event. Returning in fine form a few weeks later, Smith set second-fast time at his first event back and has racked up consistent top-10 finishes in subsequent weeks.

However, Smith is still searching for his first NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series win, after coming close multiple times. Most famously in 2017, when the driver challenged Kyle Larson for the top-spot before a late race attempted pass sent him flipping into turn three.

The August 22 event at Grandview is doubly important to the Kunkletown, PA racer. In late 2018, Smith was tapped to pilot the Mike Heffner-owned machine previously piloted by Greg Hodnett – the namesake of the event -- who died in a racing incident in Central Pennsylvania.

“Greg was one of my idols growing up,” Smith said in a team release announcing his hiring. “I have huge shoes to fill.”

Smith holds eight wins with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Stars, and hopes to lead the Red Robin Gourmet Burgers/Heffner Racing No. 72 machine to Grandview Speedway victory lane.

Tickets for Thursday, August 22 are $30 for adults, $10 for children age 6 to 11, and free for kids under 6. Pit admission is $35 and no license is required. Advanced ticket holder can access the general admission seating at 4:30 PM, thirty minutes before tickets go on sale.

Advanced tickets are available by calling 443-513-4456. Guests may pick-up their tickets and pay for them the night of the event after 3:30 PM. Please leave a message with your name, and the number of tickets you are requesting.

Grandstand gates open at 5:00 PM, with racing starting at 7:30 PM.

Greg Hodnett collected nine Thunder on the Hill Racing Series wins at the Grandview Speedway – sitting third on the all-time win list. The winner of the event will receive the Hodnett Cup -- fabricated from one of Greg’s many trophies, a base was added where names of future event winners will be engraved. As a perpetual trophy, it will be available on race day for Victory Lane celebration, the winner’s name will be added along with the event date, and the trophy will be on display year-round at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing at the Latimore Valley Fairgounds.

REED TAKES MODIFIED RACE WIN AT WALL SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ All American Auto Group Modified stock car driver Steven Reed charged toward the front of the field early and took the lead on lap seven to win the 40-lap main event at Wall Stadium Speedway Saturday night. It was the Jackson resident's second win of the season and the 32nd of his career. His first ever win came a little over 15 years ago.

Jackson's Jason Treat was the first leader of the test with Holmdel's Andrew Krause and Reed quickly advancing to second and third. Krause used the inside lane to charge to the front on lap five before Reed and Treat touched in the first turn forcing a caution when Treat stopped in turn two. Reed then used the ensuing restart to throttle into the lead in the outside lane while Brick's Eric Mauriello and Tyler Truex of Mayetta advanced to second and third.

The duo then chased Reed to the finish line while Krause and Ken Matlach of New Hyde Park, N.Y. completed the top five.

“The car was real good tonight,” Reed said after the win. “A lot of guys were bolting on four new tires. We went with three and we were fine. I do want to apologize to Jason Treat. Early in the race when I was on the inside I went into the corner a little hot and that pushed him up.”

The O'Shea's Auto Repair Factory Stocks raced in a pair of 25-lappers, one rain postponed from May and one regularly scheduled. John Carpenter of Howell won the first main event over Scott Riggleman of Manchester, Mike Montano of Freeport, N.Y., Scotch Plains' Tim Majek and Tom Rajkowski of Fords. Defending class champ Montano returned to win the regularly scheduled race over Riggleman, Carpenter, Gerry Koenig of Merrick, N.Y. and Union's Joey Helberg.

In just his fourth start in a Center State Engineering Sportsman car, Neil Rutt III of Edison won his career first 25-lap main event in the division. Title contender Carsten DiGiantomasso of Jackson was the runner-up, with Jonathan Laureigh of Lanoka Harbor, Jake Nelke of Manahawkin and Tomas Stainionis completing the top five.

Ricky Williams of Barnegat won his first 25-lapper of the season for the Surfside Collision 4 Cylinder Stocks taking the lead on lap four. Point Leader Neil Rutt III of Edison, Alonzo Morales of Mt. Ephraim, Neptune City's Jeffrey Loesch and Doug Ashford of Farmingdale were second through fifth.

Brick's Joe Mongeau was the winner of the 25-lap race for the Mike's Performance Center Limited Late Models. Bayville's Mike Tillett, Chris Silvestri of Hazlet and Michelle and Jim Moorman wrapped up the top five.

Action is slated for the Sportsman, Factory Stocks, Legend Cars and 4 Cylinder Stocks. Once racing is complete Demolition Derby action will be presented. BUTLER REGISTERS HIS SECOND VAHLCO WHEELS MODIFIED FEATURE WIN OF THE YEAR

New Egypt, NJ (August 11, 2019) – On Toms River Night at New Egypt Speedway, Mike Butler registered his second Vahlco Wheels Modified feature win of the year. The Delaware Auto Exchange Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series main event went to Tim Tanner Jr. John Criscione was the victor in the Hammer Sportsman feature. Brian Spencer topped the field in the Street Stock race.

As the 30-lap feature began for the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds, Billy Osmun grabbed the lead with Cale Ross, Pat Wall, Rich Rutski and Blaine Bracelin next in line. By the third circuit and just before the first yellow flag waved for a multi-car tangle, Wall passed Ross for second with eighth place starting Mike Butler advancing into fifth. On the ensuing restart, Osmun maintained his edge with Butler motoring to the runner-up spot. Following another caution period on the fourth tour, Butler bolted to the front as action resumed with Wall in second and Osmun in third. Just as action was beginning to heat up on the fifth lap, Dakota Kessler’s ride came to a stop near the pit entrance and the yellow lights illuminated for the final time. When green flag racing returned, Butler fended off Wall to keep the lead with Osmun running in third. At the halfway point of the contest, Butler was increasing his margin over Wall and Osmun with Ryan Krachun in fourth and Danny Bouc in fifth. On lap sixteen, Bouc slipped by Krachun to move into fourth. With ten circuits left, the top two of Butler and Wall had pulled away from their rivals with Butler having a comfortable advantage. Over the final moments of the contest, Butler went unchallenged as he scored his second career Vahlco Wheels Modified feature win. Wall’s strong run netted him second place. With Osmun finishing third, Bouc came home in fourth after starting eleventh. Fifth place was claimed by Krachun. The winners in the Vahlco Wheels Modified heat races were Blaine Bracelin and Cale Ross.

In the 20-lap main event for the Delaware Auto Exchange Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series, Tim Tanner Jr. powered by Tyler Brehm on a lap six restart to take his second checkered flag of the season. With Brehm finishing second, Mark Bitner completed the race in third. Eddie Wagner’s last lap pass earned him fourth place over Ricky DiEva. Jason Dunn and Mark Bitner won the Delaware Auto Exchange Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series qualifying events.

John Criscione led from start to finish to win the non-stop 20-lap Hammer Sportsman feature. The victory was the first for Criscione in the division. Tenth place starting Bob Lineman Jr. finished in second place. With Joseph Brown in third, fourth place was captured by David Burns. Will Dupree completed the top five. John Criscione and Art Liedl were victorious in the Hammer Sportsman heat races.

After taking the lead from Vern McLaughlin on the seventh circuit, Brian Spencer paced the field the rest of the way to snare the victory in the 15-lap Street Stock race. The win was the second in a row for Spencer. Ninth place starting Mick Search took the runner-up spot. Third place went to Bill Liedtka. McLaughlin crossed the finish line in fourth. DUANE HOWARD EARNS $10K AS HE WINS FORREST ROGERS MEMORIAL AT GRANDVIEW

STEVE YOUNG WINS FIRST SPORTSMAN FEATURE OF THE SEASON

BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 11, 2018 . . . Duane Howard, the current TP Trailers NASCAR 358 Modified point leader, collected a hefty $10,000 payday when he took the checkered in his third Forrest Rogers Memorial 50-lap feature victory on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway in the activities broadcast by RCN TV, Allentown.

It was close for the five-time champion when Jeff Strunk regrouped the field when he slowed in turn four with a flat right rear tire bringing out the caution with five laps remaining in the 49th annual Rogers Memorial.. Despite a single file restart, runner-up Frank Cozze, who has been struggling this season, was all over Howard giving him a run for the big bucks. At one point Cozze nudged ahead coming off of the fourth turn, but when the lap counted it was Howard in front as the side-by-side action created some paint swapping.

Howard was determined to keep the Norm’s Save Station Bicknell No. 357 mount prepared by the hard working crew ahead in front and he went on to chalk up his fourth win of the season at the 1/3-mile banked clay oval.

Howard was honored to win the 49th running of the special event named in honor of founder Forrest Rogers as he has high praise for the entire Rogers family.

Steve Young won his first feature of the year which was his second career TP Truck Equipment NASCAR 25-lap Sportsman feature leading the event from start to finish.

Providing the feature winners met the necessary requirements, they received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers and a certificate from VP Fuels for product awards. The Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award recipients were Howard and Young. Parker Guldin, who finished fifth in the Sportsman feature received an extra $100 from the track for being the first crate engine running.

In the Modified feature polesitter and rookie driver Richie Hitzler took the early lead and set the pace for 11 laps until Ryan Lilick powered into first leaving Howard, coming from the 16th starting grid; Steve Swinehart, Hitzler, who fell back, and Kenny Gilmore jockey for the remaining top five positions.

The lead was swapped for the third time when Howard put the Carroll Hine powered mount into the lead on the 15th circuit.

It didn’t take Howard long to distance himself from his fellow competitors and with 23 laps in the books, he was upon the lap traffic and had to use heads up driving skills to pass them as he realized they were racing for positions also.

Meanwhile as Howard continued his torrid pace the action behind him was hot and heavy between Lilick, K. Gilmore, Cozze and Brett Kressley. Attempting to get into the mix were Kevin Hirthler and Craig Von Dohren, who had to qualify through one of the two consolation races and start 25th.

Gilmore overtook second on the 37th lap and set sail after Howard who had a huge lead built up with Cozze, Kressley and Von Dohren in tow.

Former Rogers Memorial winner Strunk brought out the caution late in the race with a flat tire and after a quick pit stop rejoined the action and was able to muster up a 12th place finish. The single file restart lined up – Howard, Cozze, Gilmore, Von Dohren and Kressley. When action went green again Cozze gave Howard no margin to err as he was right on his bumper. The pair raced door handle-to door handle and it appeared Cozze would put the Tom Umbenhauer-owned car in the lead as he edged ahead slightly, but Howard denied him that chance as he dove underneath out of four to keep the lead when the lap counted. Howard stayed in control and pulled into the winner’s circle to claim the win. Chasing him across the line were Cozze, for his season best finish; Von Dohren, coming on strong in the end; Gilmore, who also posted his best run and Kressley. Rounding out the top ten were Hirthler, Jared Umbenhauer, Lilick, Doug Manmiller, another one that had to get into the race through the consi, and Steve Swinehart.

The four qualifying heat winners were K. Gilmore, Lilick, Jorden Henn and Hitzler. Rick Laubach and Manmiller won the consies.

Sportsman competition saw Young charge into the early lead with pressure from Josh Adams, Parker Guldin, Nate Brinker and B.J. Joly.

Positions were constantly being exchanged behind Young, who had a straightaway lead built up by the ninth lap and was now being chased by Guldin, Brad Arnold, Adams and Mark Kemmerer.

Young encountered lapped traffic by the 12th lap allowing Arnold to reel him in.

An infield tire hit by another competitor and pushed onto the track brought out the yellow on the 18th lap erasing Young’s slight edge. The restart was void when Andrew Kreis hit the fourth turn wall with heavy impact and was uninjured. The next try was no better and Kenny Bock found himself assisted into the second turn wall. When another lap finally was recorded, Young was still first, but by now Arnold, Brad Brightbill, the current point leader; Kemmerer and Guldin completed the top five.

A one lap shoot-out was set up when Kyle Smith was sitting sideways along the homestretch infield. Young wasted no time moving out and Brightbill was now in second looking for another weekend win.

Young kept everyone at bay to go on to claim the win followed by Brightbill, for the third week in a row after he made the last lap pass; Arnold, Kemmerer and Guldin.

Arnold, Young and B.J. Joly were the heat winners.

Coming up next at Grandview Speedway is an August 17th doubleheader featuring the T.P.Trailers NASCAR Modifieds and T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. with spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. Adult admission is $15 while youngsters under 12 are admitted free.
