All Star Cup 100 Weekend Next Up On New Egypt Speedway Docket October 2nd & 3rd; NEWS Sprint Cars Added
NEW EGYPT, NJ - The 8th Annual All Star Cup will be held on Friday and Saturday night October 2nd and 3rd at the New Egypt Speedway. It will all be culminated by a 100 lap, $10,000 to win Modified event on Saturday night that will pay $500 just to start the event.
The Crate Modifieds will do battle in a 30 lap event paying $1,000 to win, the 4-Cylinders will do battle for $500 to win and the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars Presented By: The Meat Shoppe have recently been added as well.
It kicks off with Open Practice on Friday night October 2nd from 6-10pm, any NJ legal race car is welcomed to take part in the event. The top eight fastest Modifieds, Crate Modifieds, 4-Cylinders & NEWS Sprint Cars will partake in an 8-lap dash with the winner receiving an automatic redraw spot for Saturday nights’ events. Gates will open at 5pm and pit admission will be $25.
On Saturday the 3rd, Pit Gates will open at 3pm for tech inspection, Grandstands will also open at 3pm. Fan fest will take place off the fourth turn from 3:30-4:30pm, Hot laps will hit the Speedway at 5pm and the first green flag will fly at 6pm on the night.
Invaders from all over the region are expected to take on the New Egypt regulars in the extra distance affair.
Adult (16+) admission will be $30 with Seniors (65+) being $28, Teens (12-15) and Military w/ID are $18 with kids 11 & under being FREE. Pit Admission will be $40.
Previous winners of the All Star Cup Shootout include Gary Butler in 2013, Billy Pauch Jr in 2014, & 2016, Brandon Grosso in 2017, Ryan Godown in 2018, and Duane Howard in 2015 & 2019.
New Egypt Speedway, which is New Jersey’s premier dirt racing facility, is located on Route 539 just minutes from Six Flags Great Adventure and the New Jersey Turnpike. THE WAY BACK: Donny Schatz Returns To Victory Lane At Plymouth Speedway
Brad Sweet extends his points lead while Schatz cuts into his points deficit
PLYMOUTH, IN — Sept. 24, 2020 — Eighteen races. That’s how long 10-time World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series champion Donny Schatz went without a win.
The last time he went on a winless streak that long was in 2012 when he didn’t win for 33 straight races throughout the summer months.
He put a stop to the idea of going that long without a win again Thursday night at Plymouth Speedway. With one of the best performances he’s had in two months, and a bit of luck, Schatz parked his CARQUEST Auto Parts #15 in Victory Lane at the Indiana track for the first time in his career.
“These (Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing) guys kept digging,” said Schatz, of Fargo, ND. “We know the road to the top. We know the road to the bottom. These guys just keep working. They’ve tried to get a handle on the horsepower (of the Ford FPS 410 engine). This is a different combination for tonight and obviously everything that’s happen shows it’s going in the right direction. We’re happy about that.”
Schatz teased the speed of his TSR car around the 3/8-mile track in August by setting a new track record. However, he had to wait until Thursday night to unleash the full potential of his ride due to rain postponing the August event.
While he wasn’t able to match his track record, qualifying sixth, Schatz did outrun NASCAR-star Christopher Bell in their Drydene Heat Race to claim his ninth Heat win of the season. He then finished second in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash, behind winner Gio Scelzi, to lineup on the outside pole for the 35-lap Feature.
Sheldon Haudenschild spoiled Schatz and Scelzi’s hopes of leading the first lap of the Feature, though. Hooked around the bottom, Haudenschild passed Schatz for second in the first corner and then snuck by Scelzi for the lead the next. His moment of glory lasted for three more turns before Scelzi pulled the trigger on a slide job entered Turn 3 and cleared Haudenschild for the lead before the exit of the corner.
For the next half of the race, Scelzi held Haudenschild at about a car length’s distance back, while Haudenschild did the same to Schatz. Lap traffic changed that. The slower car of Brinton Marvel blocked Scelzi’s line around the bottom for two laps, allowing Haudenschild to close in and plan his attack.
With 17 laps to go, Marvel nearly chopped Scelzi’s nose on the exit of Turn 4. Scelzi had to go from throttle to brake, while Haudenschild was all throttle off the corner and rocketed by the Logan Contractors Supply #18 car to take the lead.
Schatz worked his way by Scelzi for second a lap later. Perfect timing.
After holding the runner-up spot for a lap, Haudenschild handed Schatz the lead. The NOS Energy Drink #17 suffered a broken shock with 15 laps to go. Haudenschild’s time in the work area for repairs expired before the field resumed racing, forcing him to remain there and eventually end the night 23rd.
On the final restart of the night, Schatz powered ahead of the field to lead his first laps of Feature. Reigning champion and current points leader Brad Sweet slid by Scelzi for second on the restart but didn’t have the speed to challenge Schatz.
“Donny was definitely a little better there,” said Sweet, of Grass Valley, CA. “He could get through the lap cars. We caught the first lap car and couldn’t pass them. I just need to be a little better. Obviously, we missed the setup. I think we were better in the Heat Race and made our car worse in the Dash. But they reworked the track. We made some not so great decisions. But we win as a team. Lose as a team.”
Looking like the dominant Schatz of races past, the multi-time champion cruised to a two-second victory over Sweet.
“It feels good to finally get a win here,” Schatz said with a chuckle. “I can’t remember the last time. It’s been a while.”
The victory is Schatz’s fourth of the year and 298th of his career.
Kasey Kahne Racing ended the night with two podium finishes. Sweet finished second and James McFadden finished third in the Karavan #9 car. Jacob Allen nearly edged McFadden for third at the line but had to settle for fourth. Behind him, Tyler Courtney had an impressive fifth-place run – his first top-five finish with the World of Outlaws.
Sweet was able to extend his points lead with 11 races remaining. He entered the night with an eight-point lead over Logan Schuchart and, with Schuchart finishing eighth, ended it 20-points ahead.
Schatz’s win helped him cut his points deficit to 88 points behind Sweet.
Haudenschild took a points hit. He remains fourth in points but is now 148 points behind Sweet. Carson Macedo, who earned the KSE Racing Hard Charger by racing from 22nd to ninth, is fifth in points, only four points behind Haudenschild now.
For the time being, there's one number Schatz is most happy to about. Zero. His new winless streak.

David Gravel scores Governors Reign title at Eldora for $52,000
ROSSBURG, Ohio (September 23, 2020) - Watertown, Connecticut’s David Gravel etched his name in the Eldora Speedway history books twice in the last two days, first setting a new Eldora Speedway track record of 12.599 during the Governors Reign opener on Tuesday, September 22, then trumping that statistic with a victory in the Governors Reign finale the following evening, scoring a $52,000 top prize in the process while also earning a fourth-career Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 victory.
The pilot of the Jason Johnson Racing/Weikert’s Livestock/Durst/JRC Transportation/High Performance Lubricants/The Boyd Family/Mesilla Valley Transportation/Saich Family/No. 41 sprint car led all 35 circuits of the Governors Reign finale, but certainly not without a challenge, forced to navigate through doses of heavy traffic, all while trying to fend off a late surge by Elk Grove, California’s Kyle Larson.
“I just gotta thank this entire team. I am confident we had one of the best cars all week,” David Gravel said in Eldora Speedway victory lane. “To come out here and set two quick times, one a track record, and get a win says a lot about this team. I’m happy to win tonight rather than last night because tonight pays way more. This field was just as stout as any field we’ve seen all season. All of the best are here. It feels really good to beat the best. Anything that pays over 50 grand is a crown jewel to me.”
Larson, who started tenth on the grid, powered his way into the top-five just before the halfway point, eventually snagging fourth from Sheldon Haudenschild on lap 18, then gaining another position over his hired gun, Carson Macedo, the following circuit. A caution on lap 20, the main event’s first and only besides a hiccup on the initial start involving Jacob Allen and James McFadden, allowed Larson to advance again, this time getting by Tuesday night winner, Brent Marks, on the bottom of turns one and two.
Meanwhile, Gravel continued to set a torrid pace, quickly escaping to a healthy advantage after the lap 20 restart. Although traffic eventually re-entered the picture, Gravel was able to maintain his momentum, using both grooves of the speedway to drive under or around bundles of slower cars.
By lap 33, Gravel’s advantage had all but depleted, now feeling some pressure by the season-leading All Star winner, Kyle Larson. In a last-ditch effort on the final lap, Larson dove to the bottom of turn three and attempted to slide the familiar No. 41, only to lose in a drag race to the finish. Sheldon Haudenschild would cross under the final checkers behind Gravel and Larson, followed by Brent Marks and Carson Macedo.
“When you get into lapped traffic, it gets tough to see the cushion. It’s all you can do to not slide the tires,” David Gravel continued. “When I saw the top open up in three on the last lap, I figured I gotta take it. Even if (Kyle Larson) would have slid me, I figured I could turn back underneath him. I saw someone poke their nose before that and I figured it was him. I was just worried about making a couple good laps. I knew he was closing. Sometimes you’re better off being in second in traffic.”

The Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 will conclude the 2020 season with the two-day Jim Ford Classic at Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio, on Friday and Saturday, October 9-10. Brent Marks wins Governors Reign Opener at Eldora Speedway for $10,000
ROSSBURG, Ohio (September 22, 2020) - The first-ever Governors Reign at Eldora Speedway may lack live spectators, but open wheel fans from around the world witnessed history on Tuesday evening at The Big E, as Myerstown, Pennsylvania’s Brent Marks drove his way to Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 victory lane to secure the opening night win of the inaugural Governors Reign worth $10,000, broadcast exclusively on FloRacing.
Marks, driver of the CJB Motorsports/M&M Painting and Construction/BAPS Auto Paint and Supply/Eagle Hotel/No. 5 sprint car, started fourth on the A-Main grid and marched his way to the front by lap ten, eventually out dueling Kasey Kahne Racing’s James McFadden in a slide job after slide job battle from lap ten through lap 12. Although the former Outlaw and current Williams Grove Speedway championship contender was able to put McFadden by the wayside, Marks was later forced to deal with an ill handling race car, as apparent front-end damage plagued the familiar No. 5 with less than five circuits to navigate.
Despite a late charge by Kerry Madsen, nearly pulling even with the CJB Motorsports entry with just two circuits remaining, and a string of three consecutive cautions including a red flag incident on lap 21, Marks held strong, ultimately crossing under the final checkers to nail down a third-ever All Star Circuit of Champions victory, his first since 2015.
The “Madman” Kerry Madsen held on to finish second at Eldora Speedway, followed by Shane Stewart, a hard-charging Logan Schuchart who advanced 17 positions, and Kyle Larson Racing’s Carson Macedo.
“I was just trying to hold on there at the end,” Brent Marks said on the Eldora Speedway victory lane stage. “I hit a pretty big clump of mud at one point and I think it messed up my steering a little bit. It honestly felt like something could have been broken. At that point, I was just trying to hang on.
“I’m really confident heading into tomorrow, but I think we’ll have a little bit of a different track surface,” Marks continued. “I can’t thank my team enough. Everyone works so hard and I appreciate what they do. Hopefully we can come back here and do it again.”

Eldora Speedway’s first-ever Governors Reign will continue on Wednesday evening, September 23, with a second, full Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 program, this time awarding a $52,000 payday. Housworth Highlights New Egypt Speedway Championship Night; Takes Two Track Championships
NEW EGYPT, NJ - In 2019, Jim Housworth lost the Sportsman championship by a scant two markers, the equivalent to just one position on the race track. Housworth who picked up Crate Modified championships in 2010 & 2011 came back with a vengeance in 2020 and earned not one, but two New Egypt Speedway track championships in the Sportsman and Ice Less LLC Crate Modified divisions respectively, becoming the first driver to win two different titles in the same season at NES.
“It’s good to be the first to win two titles in one season, I can’t thank my crew enough, these guys, both cars, two championships, everybody makes it possible. My sponsors make it so if we need something we can get it. It was a lot of hard work and dedication by those guys. It means alot, New Egypt is my home track, this year things just rolled our way,” said Housworth post race.
In the Ice Less LLC Crate Modifieds it was Robbie Holzwarth and Aaron Weaver bringing the field down to the green flag with Holzwarth jumping out to the early lead before fourth place starting Robby Dunn would make his move, taking the top spot on lap three.
Trouble would strike on lap 11 when Glenn McIntyre would end up getting stuck on top of the turn one fence. When green replaced yellow Dunn continued to lead the way over 10th place starting Johnny Bangs. The red flag would fly on lap 14 when Holzwarth made hard contact with the frontstretch wall and then rolled over, he would be ok. When racing resumed Dan Fleming was able to wrestle the lead away from Dunn on lap 15 bringing Bangs back with him into the runner-up position just three laps later. The final yellow of the event flew on lap 18 when Aaron Weaver crept to a stop in turn four. Over the final two laps Bangs would take his shot at Fleming but it would be to no avail. Fleming went on to dedicate the win to his mom who is doing better in the hospital after being involved in a car accident on her way to the track last week. Bangs came home as the runner-up, Robby Dunn third with Jeremy Martino fourth and Sammy Martz Jr. fifth. Crossing the line sixth and picking up the 2020 Ice Less LLC Crate Modified title was Jim Housworth.
In the Sportsman main event it was Jimmy Amato and Marty Resnick leading the field to the green flag. Title contender David Burns would shoot to the lead on lap number two after starting sixth and appeared to be in control of his first Sportsman championship, that was until a restart just prior to the halfway point when Burns was put back one row after Speedway officials deemed he was taking other title contender and second place running Jim Housworth up the Speedway twice in a row. That handed the lead to Housworth who ran away and hid into the Central Jersey night, picking up the victory. Will Dupree came home second, Burns third, with Ryan Heim and Bob Lineman Jr. fourth and fifth. Housworth would win the Sportsman title by 13 points over Burns.
Heidi Hedin led the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Car Presented By: The Meat Shoppe main event at the start but it was Brad Schaale leading the first lap when Hedin got out of shape coming down to complete lap one. Schaale went untouched the rest of the distance to score his first career Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Car Presented By: The Meat Shoppe victory over Heidi Hedin, Rich Mellor, Brian Spencer and Kevin Nealis. By virtue of his third place finish Rich Mellor is the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Car Presented By: The Meat Shoppe titleist for the second consecutive season.
Larry Reed was awarded the Street Stock victory when Shanon Mongeau and Mick Search were both disqualified in post-race tech inspection. Brian Ludwig came home second with Spider Ensinger Sr., Lee Allen and Joe Reid rounding out the top five. Ludwig wrapped up the 2020 New Egypt Speedway Street Stock Championship with his second place finish, his first in 18 seasons of racing.
Mike Fox picked up his third 4-Cylinder main event of the 2020 season at NES over Joe Garey Sr., Justin Dunn, Joe Garey Jr. and Shea Willis. Justin Dunn and Garey Sr. would tie for the points title. For Garey it is his third in a row and Dunn his first at New Egypt Speedway.
In Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman competition Paul Mancini did exactly what he needed to do which was win Saturday night’s event as he too would end up tying Mason McGee for the overall 2020 championship.
In the 20+ year history of New Egypt Speedway there has only ever been one tie for a championship and that occurred in 2006 when Bryan Driver and Mike Smith tied for the Rookie Sportsman championship, in 2020 it occurred twice.
While we are dark next Saturday night, we return on Saturday night October 3rd for the All Star Cup 100 for the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds paying $10,000 to win, $1,000 for 10th and $500 just to make the 100 lap feature. The Ice Less LLC Crate Modifieds will do battle in a 30 lap main event paying $1,000 to win event with the 4-Cylinders completing the racing card. Gates will open at 3pm on the 3rd with hot laps hitting the Speedway at 5pm and racing beginning at 6pm.

ANDREW KRAUSE WINS DAD'S MEMORIAL RACE AT WALL SATURDAY
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Using speed, handling and a strategy that included a late race pit stop for two new tires, Andrew Krause of Holmdel raced through the field in the closing 28 laps to win the third annual “Cliff Krause Memorial” presented by NAPA Auto Parts Modified stock car race at Wall Stadium Speedway Saturday night. Andrew Krause also won the first edition of the event in 2018.
The race, which paid $7,127 to the winner, is contested each season to honor the man who is credited by most for reestablishing the third mile paved oval's rich racing heritage. Cliff Krause passed away in January, 2018, of natural causes. His family continues to operate the speedway.
2019 race winner Eric Mauriello of Brick was the first leader of the contest as Krause began his climb to the front of the 24-car field from a 12th starting spot. Mauriello fought off a host of contenders, including Jason Hearne of New Egypt, Jon Mandato of Toms River, Tyler Truex of Little Egg Harbor and Howell's Jimmy Blewett, through the caution plagued first 79 laps. During a lap 79 caution Mauriello and many of his fellow top runners ducked into the pit area for tires and Krause took over the lead.
During the following 20 laps the new tires on the top runners' cars proved to be important as the group tracked down Krause. Krause then elected to pit on lap 99 for two new tires and the added traction propelled him from the rear of the field to the front. Krause then wrestled for the top spot with 15 laps remaining before securing the lead and racing on the to emotional win. Blewett and Mauriello were second and third, while Steven Reed of Jackson, who was always in contention, was fourth and Truex was fifth.
'I wish my dad was here to enjoy this win with me,” Krause said after the race. 'He was my best friend and I miss him so much. He loved this place just like my mother and sister do. Wall Stadium meant a lot to him.
“I have to thank my family and everyone who works on the car for this. I think a lot of people were second guessing us when we pitted late for tires. I guess it worked!”
Former champion Mike Montano of Freeport, N.Y. won the companion 25-lap race for the Factory Stocks, grabbing the lead from Howell's John Carpenter near the 20-lap mark. Elliot Wohl of Beachwood, Rahway's Billy Both and point leader Bryan O'Shea of Neptune City wrapped up the top four. Carpenter was fifth.
Point leader Ryan Maher of Neptune City raced to the lead on lap 18 and took his third win of the season in the 4 Cylinder Stock 25-lap race. Alonzo Morales of Burlington raced to second and early leader Ian Ashford of Farmingdale was third. Hazlet's Sal Liguori and Billy Pross of Hazlet were fourth and fifth.
Mike Alcaro of New Milford took the lead early and never looked back in winning the Legend Cars 25-lapper. Riley O'Keefe, Wall's Rob Silver, Peter Bruno of Little Silver and Quinn Trimmer of Waldwick wrapped up the top five.
The 2020 Saturday night regular season continues this Saturday (Sept. 26) evening with the Modified stock cars racing in a 40-lap event while the Factory Stocks, 4 Cylinder Stocks, Sportsman cars and the Limited Late Models are on the card in 25-lap main events. The pit area will open at 1:00 p.m. Grandstands will open at 4:30 p.m., qualifying starts at 5:30 p.m. and main event action starts at 7:00 p.m.
