Friesen’s Hundred Lap Providence TQ Win Sets Up Weekend Sweep; Redemption For Daley In Champ Karts

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (March 11, 2012) – Stewart Friesen backed up his Saturday night TQ Midget feature win in Providence, R.I.’s Dunkin Donuts Center with a rousing win the Sunday afternoon. The race was halted three times before the 100th lap was put in the books and each time Friesen had to outrun Erick Rudolph and Joe Payne, Jr. to preserve his winning drive.

“The car was perfect and that was the difference,” said Friesen. “I had some help when the outside (of the track surface) got some water on it and it got slick for guys up there.”

Friesen was also the leader of the 50th lap of the race when the field was stopped as designed by race officials to allow for refueling and minor adjustments. Drivers were able to restart in the second segment regardless of number of laps completed in the first half of the race.

Ted Christopher, who had been a contender in the first half of the event, pressured Friesen after working by Rudolph and Payne but dropped out of the event late in the going with mechanical problems.

Rudolph and Payne challenged Friesen anew over the final circuits but fell short. Ryan Smith was fourth at the checkered flag and Jon Gambuti was fifth.

Numerous accidents punctuated the 100 lap TQ main event including one on the final lap that sent Chris Stockham and Timex Morgan plunging into the homestretch wall. Despite the spectacular nature of the crash, neither driver was hurt although Stockham openly expressed his displeasure with Morgan’s crew as he was exiting the track.

After enduring the indignity of a disqualification the night before, Champ Kart driver Chris Daley of Pleasant Valley, N.Y. was a man on a mission Sunday afternoon. Bryan Shields, Anthony Colandro and Matt Fenn battled for the lead in the early laps of the event. Daley then from the pack to take the lead by lap nine.

“This is my redemption,” said Daley. “It shows that that little bit of motor infraction the night before didn’t mean a thing.”

As the race reached its midpoint, Glen Meisenhelder moved into third place after Colandro and Shields both fell back and out of the top five. David Putnam was also on the move behind Meisenhelder in fourth spot.

Lapped traffic factored into the picture as Daley was clicking off the mid-race laps rapidly. Meisenhelder and Fenn closed in on Daley but with five laps left, Meisenhelder was ensnared in a three kart accident triggered by lapped traffic, taking him out of the race.

On the final restart, Daley sprinted away. The big gainer was Putnam who passed Fenn on the last lap to take second money as Fenn held for third. Nick Hadden, who was outside the top five for most of the race, gained ground over the final three laps to finish fourth and Ron Midford, Jr. claimed the fifth spot.

This Sunday Indoor meet at ‘The Dunk’ was preceded by a full program of events the night before. Stewart Friesen won the TQ Midget main event and Glen Meisenhelder took the big Champ Kart checkered flag.

UNION BEACH, N.J. - Five Formula karting classes will compete in five action-packed racing weekends at four different tracks in the second annual Gearup Challenge. The five class champions will each get a bag of Gearup racing apparel, two roundtrip tickets and hotel rooms to the see what some consider the ‘Superbowl of Karting’ the 2012 SKUSA Supernationals in Las Vegas.

The Gearup Challenege evolved from the F-Series Formula karting, which was started as a memorial race in 2010 to honor a fallen competitor. The event was such a success that in 2011 it was expanded and renamed the Gearup Challenge- The F-Series. (Gearup is a upcoming racing apparel company) In 2011, two more Formula kart classes were added and the event was expanded to three race weekends, at two different race venues.

This year, the Gearup Challenge has expanded again to five action-packed race events, at 4 different racing venues with 5 different classes of Formula karts.

The scheduled Race dates are:

4/28-4/29 at NJ Motorsports Park, Millville, NJ, 5/26 Raceway Park at Englishtown, NJ,

6/29-6/30 at Monticello Motor Club, Monticello, NY, 8-18 (Night race) at Oakland Valley Speedway, NY and 9/22-9/23 at Raceway Park at Englishtown, NJ

Marco Oldhafer, longtime Formula karting competitor and the promoter of the Gearup Challenge said “It is my firm belief that having a small number of classes with fields of 15 karts or more makes the races more exciting for the racers as well as the spectators and having such races on a regular basis will lead to the growth of karting.”

The five classes competing in the Gearup Challenge are: Formula Sportsman (ages 8-12), Formula Jr (ages 12-15), Formula 100 (ages 15& up), Formula 125 (ages 15& up),& Formula 355 (ages 15& up). All karts will follow the Tag racing and WKA tech guidelines.

Several sponsors have come onboard this year; Gearup Apparel, Orbitz travel, MG tires, Pole Position indoor Karting facility, Kartingconnect.com and Contemporary Mercedes Benz. All event information and race results will be found on kartingconnect.com.

More information about this event can be found by visiting http://www.kartingconnect.com/page/fseries or by contacting Marco Oldhafer at (732) 850-1893. kartracer@optonline.net

Pen Argyl, PA: Gasoline Alley TV/Internet Show Hosts Ed And Steve Pados Set To Host 5th Annual NAPA Auto Parts Dirt Track Heroes Show
By:Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media

The extremely popular Gasoline Alley TV/Internet Show left the airwaves on November 7th after ten successful seasons of showcasing the top driving talent nationally and locally throughout the show's 546 editions. The popular show reached across the international boundaries with guests from Australia and New Zealand and a fan base that stretched around the world. Show hosts Ed and Steve Pados made some very tough decisions in regards to stepping away from some of the many events they were involved throughout the year and decided two years ago to halt the famous bus trip to the Reading Reunion show they did for 20 consecutive years. As they approached a new contract for the TV Show, the initial plans were to shut the show down at the end of the contract date in March. After taking two weeks off and receiving more than two thousand emails, phone calls and letters, the Gasoline Alley Gang decided to sign a new contract for six additional months to carry them through the current racing season in 2011. While it was sad to end the show, the Pados Brothers felt the time had come to ease the burden a bit and take some time off for some much needed rest and relaxation. That being said, the time off was well spent and the call to action has the popular broadcasting duo prepped and ready to go as they move into the friendly confines of the Garden State and kick off the 5th Annual NAPA Auto Parts sponsored Dirt Track Heroes event that is set to open on March 4th and will run until March 10th at the Phillipsburg Mall, located on Route 22 East in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. Co-Hosts Ed and Steve Pados will open the seven day run of the Mall festivities with two scheduled shows on Sunday, the first being a salute to Nazareth and Nazareth National Speedways from Noon until 3 PM and then following with a salute to the driving stars that once graced the Lake Mocatek Speedway. The opening of the show has legendary pavement driving greats Tony and Matt Hirschman and dirt racing legends Frankie Schneider and Paul Deasey on board along with NASCAR Whelen All American Series Champion David Polenz along with many of the great driving heroes that put on so many great driving exhibitions at all of the many racetracks that were once part of the local landscape.

The Pados Brothers coined the phrase "the past, present and future" of racing when they first hit the airwaves in 2002 and served the racing community for ten years with their well noted and much acclaimed "theme" show format with their novel approach and exciting look at the past, present and future of the short track world of motorsports. The Gang hosted 546 editions of their show and hosted 334 of those shows on the party channel at WALN Digital Cable and "Happy Jack" Burns on Channels 103 and 137. The popular show has seen the Gang interview more than 8,000 drivers, owners, engine builders, promoters and trophy girls along the way and took their show on the road to many venues including the Thunder on the Hill Shows at Grandview, the Reading Fairgrounds Nostalgia Nationals, the Hinchliffe Stadium, Reading Reunion, Flemington Race Show and all of the Dirt Track Heroes events. WALN will play an integral part of the show as the WLAN Girls Vicky Kidd and Layla Josie will be on hand from 11 AM until 1 PM on the opening day of the show to meet and greet their many adoring fans and will be doing a photo-shoot throughout the Mall confines during their stay at the show along with "Happy Jack" Jack Burns, the well noted Polka King of the Lehigh Valley.

The first four editions of the popular Mall show have been an overwhelming success and the excitement level has been extremely high as the many fans of racing join together with the past, present and future stars of the motorsports world. This event bonds many familiar faces from the past years of the golden era racing to match up with today's current superstars and the future of the sport with the stars of tomorrow in a jam-packed week long show offering that is absolutely free to the public. Legendary racing names from the past including Ken Brenn, Carl "Fuzzy' Van Horn, Jimmy Maguire, Sammy Beavers, Tommy Hager, Ken Wismer Jr, "Rapid" Richie Smith, Gerald Chamberlain, Bill Wilson, Leroy Amey, Scott Kania, Ray Liss, Red Coffin, Earl Derr, Tighe Scott and Mares Stellfox to name just a few are expected to take part in the week long show with each day of the show focusing on another popular aspect of the racing community. Special guests during the week include the aforementioned Hirschman Family, Frankie Schneider and Paul Deasey and David Polenz on Sunday, March 4th and a special appearance by seven time AMA Flat Track Motorcycle Champion and former world land speed record holder for motorcycles, "The Warrior" Chris Carr on Tuesday night, March 6th. Another special edition of the 2012 show will be held on Friday, March 9th edition as legendary racing giants Bill Wimble and Freddy Adam will sell and sign their released books beginning at 4 PM on Friday afternoon and the Legends Showcase will have a host of driving stars joining them for this popular edition of the show. The nostalgia racing groups from Reading, Flemington, Tri State, Nazareth, Dorney Park and Harmony Speedways are expected to be front and center to display their vast collections of racing memorabilia from those memorable days of racing when one didn't have to travel out of the greater Lehigh Valley to witness the great competition that took place on those famous speedways that may be gone from the landscape but never forgotten from our treasured memories. Show co-host Ed Pados made this astute observation, "While we no longer have the weekly racing show, my brother Steve and I always look forward to this great gathering of racing personalities with this great show. While many of us do not see each other on a daily basis, this event becomes the universal melting pot to meet and greet friends, shake hands, tell stories and enjoy a great fellowship of camaraderie within the racing community". He further added, "It takes a great staff of individuals to bring a show like this together and truly the best in the racing business are spearheading and accomplishing this mission in Phillipsburg with Bob and Donna Miller, Greg Collins, all of the show sponsors, car owners, drivers, speedways, nostalgia groups and fans providing the labor and the inspiration for a show of this magnitude, and I must say my brother Steve has been an absolute whirlwind in coming up with another great game plan for this show as I really don't know how he does it but his work ethic speaks for itself with all he does within the racing community".

Joining the Pados Brothers throughout the week will be longtime popular Borger's Speedway announcer/starter Bobby Stull and former Lake Mocatek Speedway co-announcer Justin Beltrame to conduct the nightly interview sessions. IRCO Community Federal Credit Union Vice President and noted Harmony Speedway racing historian Greg Collins join the announcing team this season as the IRCO Group will sponsor the nightly stage area action. Guest announcers for the week long show are expected to include Wall Stadium announcer Earl Krause and Thunder on the Hill and Bridgeport Speedway announcer Jeff Ahlum and Orange County Fair Speedway Assistant Announcer Joel Murns. Invitations to all of the speedways in the immediate area have been sent out with favorable responses being returned as to each speedway's participation on their respective evening. NAPA Auto Parts of the Delaware Valley, Moe Pagni's Outten Used Cars, R&F International Muffler and Brake, Hamlin Speedway/S&S Speedways, Smith Fabrication and the Stage One Modifieds, Martocci's Automotive, Caffe Europa, PR Performance, IRCO, Speedway Promotions, Accord Speedway and GA Motorsports Media have all lent their assistance for what will be another successful event.

Additionally, collectibles, novelties, racing videos and driver's action and still racing pictures will be on sale throughout the week long show. The NAPA Auto Parts Dirt Track Heroes Show will once again be offering a fabulous souvenir T-Shirt and program book.

Race teams seeking to register their race cars for the event should go to the website at: www.thunderonthehillracingsseries.com The show flyer and entry form is located on the main page and the phone number is: 443 513 4456. This event provides a golden opportunity for race teams and their sponsors to receive mainstream exposure from the record number of fans who will be visiting the show. Last year more than 95,000 visitors came through the Mall doors for the show. A nominal fee of $25.00 covers the insurance for the week.

Join the Pados Brothers, Ed and Steve, each day and evening as the Phillipsburg Mall becomes abuzz with racing excitement once again as the 5th Annual NAPA Auto Parts Dirt Track Heroes show kicks off on March 4th and runs through March 10th.

The "Golden Era" of auto racing from the late fifties through the early eighties was an era that saw many changes take place in the way the race cars were constructed. The word "stock" gave way to ingenuity at first and followed closely by technology as the race cars became less stock appearing and relied more heavily on the latest speed part that would make the race car go faster. While the years have changed the look and the cost of racing, the spirit of the competition remains much as it was when racing in the local area was launched. The great fan base of racing can come out to this grand Mall event and be transported back to a time when they could hop into their family jitney and travel less than a half hour to witness the excitement of a night at the races. All historical racing groups including Reading, Flemington, Harmony, Dorney Park and Nazareth will have their memorabilia on display and their many scrapbooks open for the fans to take another long look at the glory years of racing and possibly find a picture or two they want to purchase as a keepsake from past glory or racing exploits.

NEWS FROM: RISLONE SPRINT SERIES

KRAMER WILLIAMSON AND THE PINK PANTHER PLAN RETURN TO URC IN 2012

A three time URC champion and winner of sixty-seven URC feature events, Kramer Williamson of Palmyra, PA will be returning to chase another Rislone URC Sprint Series Championship in 2012.

Kramer is a veteran of the sport and a multi-time champion on the Central Pennsylvania sprint car tracks, and a former winner of the National Open at Williams Grove. Williamson also has his named etched on the World of Outlaws feature win list. In the world of sprint car racing, Kramer has pretty much done it all.

Kramer would not reveal his age, so to put it in perspective, he did share that he was Rookie of the Year at Williams Grove in 1971.

Yes Kramer has been around for a long time and when asked if retirement was in his future, he was quick to reply, "My body will tell me when it's time to stop". Kramer's history brings a lot to the sport like building his own frames and most of his components, and he does it because, that's how they did it years ago. With that said, Kramer remains very competitive with the start of each and every sprint car race and has confidence his the parts he builds. There's an old saying, "Once a Champion, Always a Champion" and that fits very well for Kramer Williamson.

"We do plan to run the entire URC season even though I would like more race dates on the schedule. When you get to this stage of my career, you want to race every possible weekend", added Williamson. "I like the tire prices and this will help with the overall operating cost of a race team, it will definitely help keep more teams running". Kramer also has a view on the double file restarts. "I think it will be exciting and something different and for me, double file restarts will help. I get stronger as the race goes on". Williamson added, "I'm glad URC is trying it and if it makes the racing better for the fans, then we have to do it. . . .after all, it's about the fans".

URC will again offer several higher paying events in 2012, but as we all know, more money often attracts more competition. "Good, bring them on. I want to kick their butts. I have always believed that if you race with good drivers, you'll be a good driver. I believe it's my way to get better". Williamson went on to say, "I remember beating Fred Rahmer at the Grove one night driving Fran Hogue's car and it was so sweet, and I want to do more of that".

Two new tracks are joining the Rislone URC Sprint Series schedule and include Potomac Speedway in Budds Creek, MD and the Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA. "I'm game for the new and different tracks", added Kramer. "I like to race, the more the better so I'll just keep beating my head against the wall and do it over and over again".

The 2012 season will find Kramer once again sporting his #73 well known as the Pink Panther. His crew includes Crew Chief Jason Simmons, Chris Gustin, Cliff Irvin, Dale and Steve Simmons of course his wife Sharon and daughter Felecia. Kramer's son, Kurt prepares all the shocks for the Panther and stays in close contact with the team on race days while he is working with various NASCAR teams. Sponsors on the Pink Panther include Jason Simmons, Armorboard, Boyer Signs, JRI Shocks and Pepsi-Cola.

Kramer remains a present day race who proudly experienced and lived through the old days. To this day, Kramer Williamson is still one of the most popular drivers on the URC roster. At driver autograph sessions, the response from the crowd and media requests almost always include the name Kramer Williamson.
