HOWARD, BALLARD, CONAWAY AND DEVAULT CLAIM WINS ON DAY TWO OF BRIDGEPORT’S BRAY MEMORIAL

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (November 20, 2011) – On day two of the Charlie Bray Memorial, Duane Howard earned $3000 by winning the Big Block Modified feature. Brett Ballard took the checkered flag in the Bridgeport Modified event. The Fallen Friend Fifteen for the Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock Cars was won by Pat Conaway. Bob DeVault scored the victory in the TSRS Sprint Car main event.

Duane Howard

At the start of the 25-lap Big Block Modified feature, Mike Barone pedaled to the front with Craig Von Dohren, Billy Pauch, Jr., Duane Howard and Jack Swain in pursuit. Howard was on the move early as he motored into third with two laps in the books. On the third circuit, Von Dohren tried to grab the lead from Barone but nearly spun out and Howard advanced into the runner-up spot. Howard became glued onto Barone’s bumper until the yellow lights flickered on lap 6 for Sammy Piazza’s stopped car. On the restart, Howard had a strong run and brushed by Barone for the lead entering turn one. As Barone fought back, he spun and Pauch, Jr. was caught up in the tangle. When action got back underway, Howard was now in front of Jimmy Horton and Dominic Buffalino. With ten laps in, Howard had half a straightaway lead over Horton. Horton was beginning to chip away at Howard’s lead when a caution period occurred for Sean Gunther on lap 13. On the single file restart, Howard maintained his advantage over Horton. For the remainder of the race, only two caution flags in the final ten laps would slow down Howard as Horton and the rest of the field could not muster a strong challenge. As the checkered flag waved, it was Howard comfortably in front for his third victory of the year at Bridgeport Speedway. Horton held on for second with Buffalino’s strong run resulting in a third place finish. Richie Pratt, Jr finished fourth with fifth going to Jack Swain. Heat race winners in the Big Block Modified division were Billy Pauch, Jr., Jesse Hill and Richie Pratt, Jr. Ron Robert was the victor in the consolation race.

Brett Ballard

Brett Ballard led every step of the way to take the 25-lap Bridgeport Modified feature. Ballard started on the pole and drove a smooth race to claim the $1000 first place check. For Ballard, it was his second win of the weekend after Saturday’s victory in the open Modified race on the quarter mile track. Second went to Jordan Watson with Dominic Buffalino claiming third. Ryan Watt and Matt Budd rounded out the top five.

After grabbing the lead from Ralph Gargiulo with two circuits to go, Pat Conaway went onto win the Fallen Friend Fifteen race for the Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock Cars. Spider Ensinger led the opening lap before Vern McLaughlin took command. McLaughlin’s mechanical failure on lap 7 turned the lead over to Gargiulo. Starting at the halfway point, Gargiulo and Conaway waged a multi-lap battle for the top spot until Conaway took over on the thirteenth tour. Gary Klimeczak wound up in second with Billy Wroble finishing in third. Completing the top five were Jeff Dirkes and Ensinger. Brian Ludwig and McLaughlin picked up wins in the Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock Car qualifying events.

Bob DeVault

Bob DeVault led all twenty laps to win the TSRS Sprint Car main event. Ryan Taylor finished in second place with third taken by Scott Flammer. John Wyers came on late to finish in fourth and Kyle Reinhardt held on for fifth. Victors in the TSRS Sprint Car heat race were John Wyers and Scott Flammer.

Bridgeport Speedway provides a safe and secure family atmosphere, free parking, giveaways and fan participation games. Billed ‘The Fastest Dirt Track in the East’, Bridgeport Speedway is a banked 5/8th mile dirt oval, featuring a dirt 1/4 mile oval embedded in the center, and is located in Southern New Jersey -- just minutes from Pennsylvania and Delaware at exit 14 off of I-295.

ELLIOTT AND HOWARD LEAD THE ENTRANT LIST FOR BRIDGEPORT’S CHARLIE BRAY MEMORIAL ON NOVEMBER 19 AND 20

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (November 11, 2011) - With a chance at one more checkered flag before winter arrives, many top names in dirt racing including Ricky Elliott and Duane Howard are getting ready for the Charlie Bray Memorial Race on November 19 and 20 at Bridgeport Speedway. This season finale at the Gloucester County complex in New Jersey honors the late Nazareth Speedway Promoter and Bridgeport Speedway Official, who passed away suddenly on December, 8, 2008.

Activity for the two day event gets started on Saturday, November 19 with qualifying and a 25-lap $3000-to-win feature for the Super Late Models. Rick Eckert, the 2011 World of Outlaw Late Model Champion, has expressed interest in attending this event and will confirm his status shortly. KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) - A small jet carrying the owner of NASCAR's top team and his wife lost its brakes and crash landed at a Key West, Fla., airport Monday evening, and the couple suffered minor injuries, officials said.

The Gulfstream 150 aircraft ran off the runway at the Key West International Airport Monday at 7:45 p.m. Rick and Linda Hendrick, a pilot and co-pilot were all taken to Lower Keys Medical Centers. The Hendricks had minor injuries and the pilot and co-pilot were taken in as a precaution, said county airport director Peter Horton.

The plane is registered to Jimmie Johnson Racing II Incorporate in Charlotte, N.C. Johnson is a five-time defending NASCAR champion and drives for Hendrick Motorsports, which Rick Hendrick owns.

Besides Johnson, Hendrick also fields cars for four-time champion Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Mark Martin. The team recently celebrated its 199th career victory in the Sprint Cup Series.

In 2004, a plane Hendrick owned crashed en route to a race in Martinsville, Va., killing all 10 onboard. That included Hendrick's son, Ricky, his brother and twin nieces.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, the pilot and co-pilot radioed that the plane had no brakes upon landing in Key West. Horton said the plane ran off the runway, and then 100 feet beyond a 600-foot safety area that was finished in May.

"If we hadn't done that, it likely would have been a different story," Horton said of the safety area that is meant as a runway overrun space.

Photographs of the crash show the plane largely intact and with its nose resting on the ground about 20 feet in front of a chain-linked airport boundary fence.

The National Transportation and Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.
