STEVE BUCKWALTER AND ADAM CARBERRY WIN FEATURES IN FIRST “OPEN WHEEL SPECTACULAR” AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA June 23, 2014 . . . The first Open Wheel Spectacular at the Grandview Speedway lived up to its name as fans saw some great racing by both the American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) wingless midgets and the Hilborn Tri-State Race Saver Sprint cars as Sunday night open wheel racing made its return to the high banks of the Grandview Speedway after nearly a thirty year absence. The American Racing Drivers Club wingless midget feature had veteran Steve Buckwalter getting the win while the Hilborn Tri State Race Saver winged sprint car feature was won by Adam Carberry.

ARDC midget action saw 2012 ARDC Rookie, Brett Wanner lead lap number one from the pole. Billy Pauch Jr. took the lead on lap two, driving the RT Racing #20 on this occasion. Racing came to a stop with two laps scored as Tommy Kunsman spun in turns three and four, collecting Ryan Watt. Watt flipped the Fred Schell owned #75. All drivers were okay but Watt and Kunsman were unable to continue.

Pauch Jr. led the field on the restart with Steve Buckwalter in hot pursuit. Tim Buckwalter now ran in third with Danny Stratton and current ARDC point leader, Steven Drevicki completing the top five. With the two Buckwalters racing for second, Pauch was able to pull away from the field temporarily. Alex Bright and Bruce Buckwalter Jr. moved in to fourth and fifth as positions changed on nearly every lap.

Steve Buckwalter closed in on Pauch on lap eight and after a two lap battle, wrestled the lead from Pauch to score lap ten.

Wanner drew a caution when he came to a stop in turns three and four with thirteen complete. Steve led Tim Buckwalter, Pauch, Alex Bright and Steven Drevicki with half of the laps on the books.

Steve Buckwalter held off the challenge of Tim Buckwalter as Pauch, Alex Bright and Drevicki raced in the top five with ten laps remaining.

Bright took over third on lap sixteen and then moved in to challenge Tim Buckwalter for second. Bright had the runner-up spot by lap eighteen and he began to close the gap on the leader in the final laps.

Two restarts realigned the field nose to tail but Steve Buckwalter had the race in hand as he led Alex Bright and Tim Buckwalter to the checkered flag. Drevicki finished fourth with Pauch rounding out the top five.

The win was Buckwalter's second ARDC midget win of the season.

Qualifying heats were won by Pauch, Drevicki and Kobylarz.

Adam Carberry (WoS photo)

Adam Carberry and Ryan Stillwaggon led the TSRS Sprint Cars to the start with Stillwaggon taking control at the wave of the green.

The red flag was needed for a multi car incident in turns three and four that saw Ian Detweiler get out of shape and several cars had nowhere to go. Stephanie Steven got upside down in the incident that also involved the cars of Cody Jourdan and Bryant Davis. Only Davis was able to continue.

Stillwaggon returned to the lead on the restart with Adam Carberry in hot pursuit. Tom Carberry ran in third followed by Bob DeVault and Tim Tanner. Adam Carberry went to the outside of Stillwaggon on lap five and took over the lead.

Once in the lead, Carberry immediately put some distance between himself and his challengers. Tanner made his way to fourth with a pass by DeVault on lap eight as the duo raced down the backstretch.

DeVault drew a caution on lap ten after Kyle Reinhardt made a move by three cars to take over fifth. Tanner quickly moved up to third on the restart and then advanced to second with a move by Stillwaggon as Carberry drove ahead of the field.

Adam Carberry caught up to the back of the field on lap seventeen. While Carberry negotiated his way through traffic, Tanner began to close in on the leader.

On lap twenty-one, Carberry and Tanner crossed the start/finish line together. Carberry was back in control the next time around but Tanner was in hot pursuit. The leaders raced each other for position all the way to the checkered flag with Carberry earning his first win of the 2014 season. Tanner finished alongside for second with Tommy Carberry finishing third, preferring the high line around the Grandview Speedway. Joseph Kata won the battle for fourth with Stillwaggon rounding out the top five at the line.

The four qualifying heats were won by Tanner, DeVault, Tom Carberry and Detweiler with Jon Haegele taking the consolation.

Kelly Racing Fuels gave five fuel awards to each organization with each based on the #17 - the car number of former driver, Dave Kelly. Haegele received ten gallons of racing fuel for being the 17th driver to draw. Five gallons of fuel went to Cody Jourdan as the 17th entry, Tom Carberry who is 17th in points, Adam Carberry who led TSRS' last event on the 17th lap and to Mike Haggenbottom who finished 17th in the last TSRS race at Bridgeport.

Ten gallons of Kelly Racing Fuel went to Ryan Watt who started the feature in 17th position. Five gallon awards were given to Greg Fitzpatrick who was the 17th driver to draw, Billy Pauch Jr. who was 17th in points, Steven Drevicki who led the 17th lap of the last ARDC event and John Barnett who finished 17th in that race at Port Royal.

STEVEN DREVICKI IS FIRST TO REPEAT IN ARDC IN 2014

Drevicki Picks up Win in Port Royal Eastern Storm Event

After winning the 2014 season opener, Reading, PA driver, Steven Drevicki picked up his second win of the season as the American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) made their third appearance of the week with the wingless Sprint Cars of USAC, this time at the Port Royal Speedway. Drevicki led all twenty laps on the way to his sixth career ARDC victory.

Drevicki lined up beside rookie driver, Tommy Kunsman Jr. for the start of the twenty lap feature event and wasted no time powering his DeGre Engineering &19 into the lead. Brenden Bright moved past Kunsman to take second as Tim Buckwalter powered into third one lap later. Bruce Buckwalter Jr. moved up to fourth with Steve Buckwalter completing the top five with five laps scored.

Trevor Kobylarz raced into the top five on lap seven with a move by Steve Buckwalter as Tim Buckwalter raced with Brenden Bright for the runner-up spot. Meanwhile, Drevicki continued to pull away from the field.

Austin Burke ran into problems between turns one and two just after the field took the half way sign. Drevicki's lead was erased as the field lined up for the single file, nose-to-tail restart. Once again, Drevicki powered away as Tim Buckwalter raced Brenden Bright for the runner-up spot, moving into second on lap eleven.

Steve Buckwalter had been working the high, outside line of the track throughout the race. With five laps to go, Buckwalter had it the way he wanted as he raced by Kobylarz to move into fifth and then side by side with Bruce Buckwalter Jr. to determine the fourth spot. Buckwalter raced high and wide to pass Bright for third on lap seventeen and one lap later, Tim Buckwalter was the next victim as Steve moved in to second.

Drevicki raced to the checkered flag alone as Steve Buckwalter led Tim Buckwalter, Brenden Bright and Bruce Buckwalter Jr. across the start finish line.

Drevicki's win added more points to his advantage as the current ARDC point leader over Brenden Bright.

USAC EASTERN STORM NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY

BRYAN CLAUSON WINS THRILLER OVER CJ LEARY AS THE USAC EASTERN STORM INVADES NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY THURSDAY NIGHT

Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, IN caught early race leader CJ Leary with just two laps to go and went on to win the 30 lap AMSOIL USAC Eastern Storm feature at the New Egypt Speedway Thursday night. The victory was worth $6,000. CJ Leary, looking for his first ever USAC win led twenty-eight laps of the thirty lap feature. Clauson and Leary swapped the lead twice on lap twenty-nine and on the final lap, Leary and Clauson were side-by-side down the backstretch. Clauson brought the crowd to their feet with his run off of turn four on his way to the checker flag. Clauson won the thriller over CJ Leary. In the twenty-five lap ARDC feature, the race was equally exciting with Steve Buckwalter earning the win over Alex Bright. Buckwalter led the race from the outset, then with five laps to go, Alex Bright took the top spot. Buckwalter regained the lead and went on to the win.

USAC heat race winners were Dalton Gabbard, Mark Smith and Chris Windom as Jon Stanbrough won the semi.

In the thirty-lap USAC sprint feature, CJ Leary took immediate command of the lead with Dave Darland in the chase. By lap four, Bryan Clauson was in second followed by Leary with Darland in fourth. Leary was impressive as he ran to hide from the rest of the field. Brady Bacon was now on a strong run advancing to fourth by lap seven. At the front of the pack, Leary was far ahead and out of sight of runner-up Bryan Clauson.

At the halfway point of the race, CJ Leary was far ahead with no signs of Clauson closing. Dave Darland followed in third with Brady Bacon fourth and Chase Stockon fifth. Brady Bacon was now challenging Darland for third and made the pass on lap eighteen.

The caution flag was displayed on lap nineteen when Jon Stanbrough stopped entering turn one. On the restart, a three car tangle took place in turn four, delaying the race for the final time.

On the restart, Leary was in good company with Clauson and Bacon now challenging. Leary had a six car length lead over Clauson but suddenly, Clauson found a fast lane on the inside of the backstretch. With two laps to go, Clauson, racing on the bottom of the track was now challenging Leary for the win. Leary and Clauson exchanged the lead twice on lap twenty-nine. With the white flag waiving, Leary was back in the lead. Off of turn two, Leary opened the door for Clauson on the bottom and entering turn three, Clauson took the lead. Off of turn four, Leary and Clauson were side-by-side with Clauson edging out Leary for the win at the checker flag. Leary finished second followed by Brady Bacon, Dave Darland and Chase Stockon.

ARDC heat race winners were Steven Drevecki, Tim Buckwalter and Trevor Kobylarz. In the twenty-five lap feature, Steve Buckwalter was the winner but not without a challenge. Buckwalter was the early race leader with Tim Buckwalter in contention. On his way to the front was Alex Bright, racing in fourth on lap four. Bright moved into second on lap six.

Buckwalter had a commanding lead as it was up to Bright to reel him in. At the halfway point, Steve Buckwalter continued to set the pace followed by Alex Bright, Tim Buckwalter, Branden Bright and Trevor Kobylarz. By lap eighteen, Alex Bright was on the leader and the battle was about to start. On lap twenty Bright took the lead but Bruckwalter continued to fight back regaining the lead. The one and only yellow flag of the race was displayed on lap twenty for Tony DiMattia who stopped on the homestretch. At the same time, third place runner Tim Buckwalter retired to the pits.

When green flag racing resumed, Steve Buckwalter held the lead as Branden Bright now moved into second. Alex Bright returned to the runner-up stop and tried to catch the leader but he ran out of time. Steve Buckwalter took the win over Alex Bright, Brenden Bright, Bruce Buckwalter Jr. and Trevor Kobylarz.

The one lap track record for the USAC non-wing sprints was broken twice early in time trials by Bryan Clauson but eventually, it was Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow, OK who set the new one lap mark with a time of 15.655.

USAC 30 LAP FEATURE FINISH: $6,000 Bryan Clauson, CJ Leary, Brady Bacon, Dave Darland, Chase Stockon, Tracy Hines, Justin Grant, Landon Simon, Hunter Schuerenberg, Daron Clayton, Travor Kobylarz, Kevin Thomas, Jarett Andretti, Mark Smith, Robert Ballou, Chad Boespflug, Mark Bitner, Joey Biasi, Chris Windom, Jon Stanbrough, Dalton Gabbard, Shane Chockrum.

NAPA AUTO PARTS THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES

Presented by: Window World, Pioneer Pole Buildings, GALCO Business Communications

THE EASTERN STORMS OPENS. . . . . .

CHASE STOCKON WINS JESSE HOCKETT CLASSIC AS TIM BUCKWALTER TAKES ARDC WIN TUESDAY NIGHT IN NAPA AUTO PARTS THUNDER ON THE HILL EVENT

Chase Stockon of Elizabethtown, IN was the class of the field as the 8th Annual USAC Eastern Storm opened Tuesday night at the Grandview Speedway. Stockon earned $6,000 for the win in the 40 lap Jesse Hockett Classic, an event run in the memory of the “Rocket Man” Jesse Hockett who lost his life in a garage accident. This was the one-hundred and eleventh NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series event presented by Window World, Pioneer Pole Buildings and GALCO Business Communications. Tim Buckwalter came hone the winner of the twenty-five lap ARDC feature. The event ran against high odds of bad weather, with at least two rain delays through the night. An electrical issue required some down time during one of the rain delays as well. A big crowd was on hand despite the bad weather throughout the area.

The Amsoil USAC sprints competed in time trials with fast time of the night going to Tracy Hines with a time of 13. 776. USAC heat race events were won by Brady Bacon, Robert Ballou and Hunter Schuerenberg as Landon Simon won the “B” main.

In the forty lap Jesse Hockett Classic, Chase Stockon was the leader at the drop of the green flag with Jon Stanbrough and Justin Grant in the chase. Grant made several challenges at Stanbrough for second on laps 6-8 with Stanbrough retaining a solid hold on second.

Stanbrough then closed the gap on Stockon but never offered a challenge for the lead. Justin Grant, Dave Darland and Brady Bacon were not mixing it up for third with Darland taking a hold on third on lap eleven. A light mist began to fall on lap fifteen but that never stopped the three wide racing throughout the field. Then on lap twenty-one, the yellow flag was displayed due to the amount of ran now accumulating on the speedway. The USAC sprint cars were sent to the pits. At the same time, an electrical issue developed with the track lights, so the electrician and maintenance team used the rain delay as an opportunity to make electrical repairs.

After a thirty minute delay, the USAC sprints returned to the speedway with twenty-one laps in the book. The recently fallen rain made the track super fast and Chase Stockon just checked out from the rest of the field when green flag racing resumed.

Jon Stanbrough immediately went on the defense as Dave Darland took a run at the runner-up spot. Justin Grant and Brady Bacon reeled in Darland and Stanbrough as there was a four car race for second with Stockon holding a comfortable lead.

In the closing laps, Stockon was working his way masterfully around the slower traffic as Stanbrough came up short to challenge for the win. Dave Darland finished third with Justin Grant fourth and Brady Bacon fifth.

A field of twenty-nine ARDC Midgets took part in the program with heat race victories going to Trevor Kobylarz, Ryan Greth and Bruce Buckwalter as Danny Straton won the “B” Main.

In the twenty-five lap feature, Trevor Kobylarz led the first four laps with Tim Buckwalter taking the top spot on lap five. Kobylarz fought to take back the lead but gave up the runner spot to Bruce Buckwalter Jr.

At the halfway mark, Tim Buckwatler was the leader over Bruce Buckwalter, Brett Arndt, Steve Buckwalter and Billy Pauch Jr.

By lap seventeen, Bill Pauch was third and closing on Brett Arndt. With the five laps to go sign showing, Pauch moved into second. Pauch ran short of time and settled for the runner –up spot at Tim Buckwalter took the win. Making up the top five were Steven Buckwalter, Brett Arndt and Steven Drevicki.

8th Annual AMSOIL USAC EASTERN STORM

NAPA AUTO PARTS THUNDER ON THE HILL CONTINUES WITH JESSE HOCKETT CLASSIC presented by WINDOW WORLD

THE SHOW OF ALL SHOW’S. . . . TAKE OFF THE WINGS, STAND ON THE THROTTLE, HERE THEY COME. . .USAC NON-WING SPRINTS AT GRANDVIEW TUESDAY JUNE 3RD

If you have never seen a non-wing sprint car race, you don’t know what you’re missing.

So plan to be at the Grandview Speedway Tuesday night, June 3 when the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series continues with the Jesse Hockett Classic for the USAC non-wing sprint cars and ARDC non-wing midgets presented by Window World. Race time is 7:30 PM.

The nation’s best non-wing sprint car drivers from around the county will gather on the “hill” Tuesday night. Drivers like Jarrett Andretti of Indianapolis, IN, Shane Cottle of Kokomo, IN, the “ Modern Day Cowboy” Daron Clayton of Sikeston, MO, Dave Darland, Lincoln, IN, Tracy Hines of New Castle, IN, Kevin Thomas, Jr. of Cullman, AL, Robert Ballou of Rocklin, CA, Nathan Moore of Tyler, TX, Chad Boespflug of Hanford, CA and Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow, OK are some of the expected entries. Look for ARDC defending champion Trevor Kobylarz of Birdsboro, PA to make his initial non-wing sprint car outing at Grandview and some other locals to include Billy Pauch Jr and Central PA driver Mark Smith.

Non-wing sprint car racing is not for the “faint of heart”. This is as extreme as dirt track racing gets.

In many forms of racing, time trials can be a yawner, but not when the USAC cars take to Grandview Speedway. Some say, USAC time trials along are worth the price of admission. Well, have no fear, there is much more to the show then just time trials.

These non-wing sprint car drivers use the outside boiler-plate as a way to slow down. There is always wheel rubbing, countless slide-jobs and racing in a pack is just the norm. In the 2013 running of the Jesse Hockett Classic, Daron Clayton did it all to win the $6,000 first place prize. In a three car battle for the win, Clayton, Levi Jones and Bryan Clauson were on the inside berm, glazing the boiler-plate and offered a three car battle for the lead for the final fifteen laps. Daron Clayton may have failed trying to move the outside boiler-plate at Grandview, but he did win the prestigious event.

Gates will open at 5 PM and for advance ticket holders, you may enter the grandstands at 4:30 PM. Warm-ups will begin at 6:45 with time trials getting underway at 7:30 PM.

USAC time trials, heat races and the 40 lap Jesse Hockett Classic are on the program along with the ARDC non-wing midgets, competing in a series of heat races all leading up to a 25 lap feature event. On May 25 at Grandview, ARDC put on the best show of the night, with Alex Bright taking the win in the non-stop 25 lap feature with Bright starting twenty-first. . . It was an awesome race!

The popular pre-race pit tours introduced at the May 25 Thunder on the Hill event will be offered on Tuesday night as well as the Inside/Out Promotion where fans may watch the warm-ups from inside turn four. What a treat with USAC on the hill.

And don’t forget to welcome our newest sponsor, Window World, America’s largest home improvement company. Window World of Lehigh Valley is your local specialist to help you with your window, vinyl siding, entry door or patio door needs. They can be reached at 610-432-6878, online at www.WindowWorldAllentown.com or at their show room 5925 Tilghman St, Allentown, PA 18104.

Following Grandview, the AMSOIL USAC Eastern Swing will include stops at the Lincoln Speedway Wednesday, June 4, New Egypt Speedway, Thursday, June 5, Port Royal on Saturday, June 7 with the finale set for Sunday, June 8 at the Susquehanna Speedway.

ARDC MIDGET ACTION RETURNS TO SUNDAY NIGHTS AT THE GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

It's been thirty years since Sunday night racing at the Grandview Speedway featured midget racing but that is all about to change this Sunday, May 4th with the Open Wheel Spectacular on the high banks of the Grandview Speedway! And what better timing than the 2014 season as the American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) celebrates their 75th Anniversary.

In what will be the first of four doubleheader events, ARDC will team up with the Hilborn Tri-State Race Saver 305 Sprint Cars in a Sunday night program on the 1/3 mile speedway with both divisions featured in qualifying events and twenty-five lap features.

Bob Hilbert Sportswear will be offering several ARDC drivers some additional incentives this season. The Hilbert on the Hill Challenge will award the driver who accumulates the most points in the eight scheduled events at the Grandview Speedway with 100 White Express T-shirts with front and back imprinting. Hilbert will also present the 2nd through 5th place drivers in the series with $100 gift certificates. With the Grandview Speedway located in such close proximity to Hilbert's business, the pairing was just a natural combination.

After rain caused the cancellation of the second event on the ARDC 2014 schedule, ARDC teams are anxiously awaiting their next event at Grandview. Many of the ARDC teams consider the Grandview Speedway to be their home track. "Grandview is one my favorite tracks," 2013 ARDC Champion Trevor Kobylarz stated recently. "We consider Grandview to be our home track since it is the closest to home of anywhere we race. It gives us a chance to bring our sponsors to the track as well as family and friends." Kobylarz continued, "And with this being our (ARDC) 75th Anniversary, it connects us to a part of our history that was very popular. A lot of people have told me how they used to attend those Sunday night races at Grandview."

Many of the drivers share Kobylarz' sentiments and would like nothing better than to visit Victory Lane at the Grandview Speedway.

Kobylarz and regular Saturday night Grandview competitor, Tim Buckwalter were the winners of the 2013 ARDC events at Grandview and both will be in the field for the first Sunday night event in thirty years. Buckwalter moved into competition in the Small Block Modified ranks at Grandview after winning the 2012 ARDC Championship.

Kobylarz and Buckwalter will have plenty of competition from the likes of the winner of the 2014 season opener, Steven Drevicki, Bruce Buckwalter, Jr., Ryan Greth, PJ Gargiulo, Brett Arndt, Tony DiMattia, Alex Bright, Kyle Lick and Nick Wean as well as many more. Billy Pauch Jr. who has an ARDC win at Grandview in the Burke Trucking #54 will be doing double duty on Sunday nights as he races in both the sprint cars and midgets. Modified chauffeur, Ryan Watt will run a team car to Pauch as both drivers wheel entries owned by Jerry & Karen Steward.

A Meet & Greet will allow fans access to two drivers from each organization prior to the Sunday night events. Drivers will be available for pictures and autographs beginning at 5pm on race night, just outside the track's main entrance.

It's been a part of midget history and now will become apart of the present.

Pit gates open at 3:30pm, grandstands at 5:30pm and racing starts at 7:30pm. Adult admission is $15 with children 6-11 just $3. Children under 6 are free.
