HOWARD, SHUEY AND HOUSWORTH WIN NASCAR STOCK CAR FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA April 17, 2017 . . . Duane Howard lost the T.P. Trailers NASCAR 358 Modified opener feature at Grandview as he had the lapped cars as obstacles that allowed eventual winner Craig VonDohren to reel him in and pass him for the win. In the second outing Howard didn’t want another one to slip by him. He was glad lapped traffic, “obeyed the move over flag, even though he had to work through them in the closing stages.” He could run the Petruska-owned Atlas Paving No. 66 on the top or bottom as the crew, “worked hard this week to provide him with a top notch car.” Howard showed his appreciation when he won the 35-lap Modified feature to claim $3,500 plus in his 69th career win by a comfortable margin over runner-up Mike Gular in the event broadcast by RCN-TV.

Brian Shuey, a three-time Late Model point champion stepped away from racing for several years, but he always had the desire to return if the right opportunity came along. Scott Lee, a former driver himself, contacted the Shoemakersville resident and they decided to team up for the 2016 season.

The opener didn’t farewell for them, but the next attempt was a success as Shuey returned to the winner’s circle for the first time since August 2010 by leading from start to finish holding off Wayne Pfeil’s constant challenges in the 20-lap BRC NASCAR Late Model feature.

Jim Housworth became a fixture at the track three years ago behind the wheel of the Ryan McNichol Sportsman No. 72. He said, “He knew the first one is always the hardest, but he didn’t think it would be this long.” He didn’t have an easy time capturing the victory in the 25-lap Sportsman feature since Brett Gilmore was on his bumper practically the entire race leaving Housworth know he was there.

All three feature winners received additional monetary awards from T.P. Trailers, Limerick ‑ $250, for the Modified and $100 for both the Late Model and Sportsman winners plus the Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award.

NASCAR stock car racing action returns to Grandview Speedway on Saturday, April 23rd at 7 p.m. with the T.P.Trailers 358 Modifieds, BRC Late Models and Sportsman all seeing action. An added attraction will be the Blast from the Past Vintage Cars seeing action. Gates open at 5 p.m. Adult admission is $15 with youngsters under 12 being admitted free.

At the initial start of the Modified feature Kenny Gilmore was the early race leader.

The yellow flew on lap two when Rick Laubach hit the third turn wall with heavy impact, but escaped injury despite a heavily damaged race car. The restart was void when Ryan Watt spun with VonDohren, Steve Swinehart and Kyle Borror also involved. Everyone continued under their own power. Gilmore still led the restart with heavy pressure from John Willman.

Willman became the new leader on the fourth circuit with Gilmore, Tim Buckwalter, Brett Kressley and Mike Kellner in tow.

A few cars back Howard was making his run to the front from 14th on the outside lane and by the tenth lap he was challenging Buckwalter for second.

Willman held on to first until the 15th lap when Howard dove underneath him out of two and into the top spot.

With Howard now in control the battle for the remaining spots developed between Willman, Gular and Jeff Strunk.

Positions were constantly changing behind Howard with Gular, Strunk, Willman and Buckwalter the top five with 23 laps in the books and everyone working slower traffic.

Before the checkered unfurled Kellner spun in the second turn erasing Howard’s deficit giving everyone a last opportunity on the single file restart.

Howard kept the Billy The Kid powered mount ahead and went on to score his first win of the season and 69th career win. Trailing were Gular, Strunk, Buckwalter and VonDohren, who came on strong the final lap. Rounding out the top ten were Doug Manmiller, Willman, Kressley, Gilmore and Jared Umbenhauer.

Heats were won by Manmiller, Watt and Umbenhauer. Danny Erb won the consi.

Before the first lap could be completed in the Late Model feature a third and fourth turn tangle brought out the yellow. The next try caused the red to be thrown after defending point champion Chuck Schutz was bounced off the backstretch wall, spun into traffic and was hit hard by Lou Egrie Jr. and Cory Merkel. All drivers escaped injury with Schutz’s car receiving the brunt of the damage and Egrie Jr. was also through for the night. Merkel continued, but eventually dropped out.

Once action got underway polesitter Shuey, who lost power steering in the heat, took the early pace while Bryon Sipe, returning after a year hiatus; Pfeil, Egrie and Ron Kline in pursuit.

Pfeil advanced to second on the third lap, but Sipe didn’t give up easily. Pfeil next wanted to track down Shuey and take the lead away.

By the half-way marker Pfeil was reeling Shuey in as the front runner neared lap traffic.

Despite the fact that Pfeil closed the gap Shuey built up, he couldn’t muster up enough steam to get past him and Shuey went on to capture his season first win and 16th career victory. Finishing second was Pfeil followed by Kline, another driver that returned after being away from the division a few year; Sean Merkel, opening night winner and Egrie. Sixth through tenth were Sipe, Dave Ogin, Devin Frey, Bill Henning and Joe Fanelli.

Pfeil and Egrie won the heats.

Sportsman action saw Housworth pull away quickly followed by Brett Gilmore, Mike Lisowski, Ken Eckert Jr. and Dean Bachman.

The front runners came upon lap traffic by the 11th lap, but they continued to battle intensely.

As the front runners came out of turn four on the 16th lap, a lap car spun in front of them making for some tense moments. Housworth and Gilmore got past, but Lisowski wasn’t as fortunate as he got caught up in it. He could continue, but lost valuable positions since he had to go to the rear of the field. Housworth held onto the lead on the restart, but now Eckert was second.

A fourth turn spin brought out the final caution period on the 17th lap. Housworth held his ground, but now Gilmore was back in second.

Housworth never surrendered the lead in his Lombardo powered mount and went on to score a well-deserved first career victory. Following him across the line were Gilmore, Henn, Eckert Jr. and Bachman. Craig Whitmoyer, opening night winner; Joe Funk III, Kyle Lilick, Ryan Lilick and Mike Koffel completed the top ten.

The four sportsman heat winners were Brad Brightbill, Bachman, Ryan Beltz and R. Lilick. Brad Grim and Paul Houseknecht won the consies.

VONDOHREN, SEAN MERKEL AND CRAIG WHITMOYER WIN OPENING NIGHT NASCAR STOCK CAR FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA April 3, 2016 . . . Eight time NASCAR T.P.Trailers 358 Modified champion Craig VonDohren, 52, of Oley, PA ducked underneath Duane Howard, 51, of Oley, PA, who was the 358 Modified race leader from the drop of the green, racing through Turn 4 with the white flag waving to steal the top spot and grab the win Saturday night at Grandview Speedway in the 30-lap 358 Modified main event. The down-to-the-wire thriller was a non-stop crowd-pleasing feature event completed in just over eight minutes, as the defending track champion claimed career win number 96 at the Bechtelsville, PA track.

Craig Whitmoyer, 39, of Hamburg, PA knifed his way under the top two running cars, who were battling each other for the top spot while caught up in heavy lapped traffic, racing through Turn 2 on Lap 18 and went on to earn his sixth career Sportsman victory at the Grandview oval. The non-stop 25-lap main event took just over seven minutes to complete.

Sean Merkel, 30, of Boyertown, PA started from the pole in the 25-lap Late Model feature go, immediately grabbed the number one position with the green and remained out in front from green to checkers to earn his eleventh career win by a comfortable margin. The victory for Merkel had the veteran racer out in front by a full straight-away most of the distance.

The entire three division season opening program was completed in just over three hours on a very chilly and somewhat blustery night at the high-banked third-mile clay oval in Berks County.

The Modified racers used the Saturday night event as a tune-up for this coming Saturday when the T.P.Trailers 358 Modifieds will race in their first special of the season, a 35-lapper paying at least $3500 to win. The 7 p.m. tripleheader will also feature the Sportsman and BRC Late Models.

With each feature going off with a heads-up start, Merkel took the lead immediately in the Late Model main event followed by Cory Merkel and Bill Henning. Cautions on Lap 6 and Lap 7 tightened things up. The new green showed Sean Merkel out in front ahead of Cory Merkel, his younger brother. On Lap 8 Lou Egrie advanced up to third and two tours later Dave Ogin took fourth.

Merkel remained out in front, winning by a comfortable distance over Cory Merkel, Dave Ogin, Lou Egrie Jr. and Lou Egrie to round out a strong-running top five.

“This year we just wanted to get off to a better start,” explained Merkel, known at the speedway as “Big Sexy.” “With the win we can say we started off better already. I got a little worried, though, running through the lapped traffic, but that’s racing. It is what it is, I guess?”

Merkel was awarded a $100 bonus from T.P. Trailers of Limerick, PA and also received the halfway leaders hoagie from Dan’s Deli in nearby Boyertown, PA.

In the 30-lap NASCAR 358 Modified main event, five-time track champion Duane Howard started from the pole wheeling the No. 66 Atlas Paving Mike Petruska owned ride and quickly found the horsepower he needed to pull away to a comfortable advantage. Danny Erb was second on Lap 1, with Ryan Grim moving into second for Lap 2. VonDohren climbed to third on Lap 10 and Howard held a full straight-away lead after 12 circuits were put in the record books.

By Lap 17, the eight-time track champion, VonDohren claimed second. The next 6-laps or so Howard was tied up in the heavy lapped traffic as VonDohren closed the gap. On Lap 27 VonDohren was on Howard’s rear bumper and a circuit later VonDohren was racing wheel-to-wheel through the lapped traffic with Howard. Racing through Turn 4 on Lap 29 VonDohren ducked low, underneath Howard and became the new leader exiting the corner with the white flag waving.

VonDohren crossed the line first with Howard in close pursuit, finishing as the runner-up. Grim held on for third-place, with 10-time speedway champion Jeff Strunk bringing it home in fourth. Mike Gular rounded out the top five finishers.

Howard was given the halfway leaders hoagie award from Dan’s Deli, while VonDohren was awarded $250 for winning by T.P. Trailers. VonDohren wound up walking away with $2,750 for his triumph.

Brad Arnold started the 25-lap Sportsman feature from the pole and quickly jumped out in front of Brian Hirthler and second-generation driver Brad Grim. Joe Funk was fourth after the first tour. On Lap 2 Funk was third and by Lap 3 he was up to second-place, followed by Hirthler and Grim. Laps 5, 6 and 7 Funk started to apply heavy pressure, chasing the race leader, Arnold.

Whitmoyer raced into fourth-place at the halfway point, as the top three were fighting it out in heavy lapped traffic. In Turn 2 on Lap 18 Funk and Arnold slipped up high, as Whitmoyer used the bottom to slip past the leaders and move out in front down the back chute. With two to go Funk ducked under Hirthler in Turn 2 to move into second. Never seriously challenged, Whitmoyer easily scored the triumph over Funk, who simply ran out of laps and couldn’t get close. Third was Brad Brightbill, who closed in on the leaders late, followed by Hirthler and Arnold to round out the top five finishers in that order.

“My car just came to me, there, at the end,” Whitmoyer commented. “I could see the top two were having trouble with the lapped traffic. I just felt I could get it in there, underneath, racing through the turn. We were all fast running down the straight-aways, but I was confident I could get under them through the corners. Tonight the track surfaced slicked off and made it real racy. It’s better racing that way. We’ve got a real good, fast field of cars this season and everyone raced me clean. We stepped our program up a little this year and it paid off tonight in a big way.”

Arnold was awarded the Dan’s Deli halfway hoagie, with an additional $100 handed to Whitmoyer courtesy of T.P. Trailers.

Heat races for 16 Late Models were won by Sean and Cory Merkel.

With 38 Sportsman cars in the crowded pit area, Arnold, Jim Housworth, Hirthler and Brad Grim were the heat victors.

In the 358 Modifieds, Howard, Erb and VonDohren were heat race winners , with 34 358 Modified cars signed in.

Ryan Watt won the 358 Modified consolation, with Josh Adams and John McGovern claiming the Sportsman consolation races.

THUNDER ON THE HILL RACING SERIES

DUANE HOWARD WINS “MODS AT THE MADHOUSE” THRILLER, BRIGHTBILL & HAGGENBOTTOM SHARE THUNDER WINS AT GRANDVIEW

The fifteen year tradition of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series Halloween Party returned to the Grandview Speedway with the MODS at the MADHOUSE triple header on Saturday night. When the Halloween treats were finally collected, it was Oley, PA driver Duane Howard who won the 40 lap $5,000 to win Modified feature as Brad Brightbill won the sportsman feature with Mike Haggenbottom winning the TSRS Sprint car feature event. Ninety-two cars took part in the action as a strong crowd turned out on cold and windy night.

Modified heat race events were won by Billy Pauch Jr, Duane Howard and Doug Manmiller as Craig VonDohren won the consolation.

#66 Duane Howard (WoS photo)

In the 40 lap MODS at the MADHOUSE feature event, Brett Kressley was the early race leader, taking the top spot from pole sitter Danny Creeden. Ryan Watt, Billy Pauch Jr and Kevin Hirthler followed to make-up the top five as the field crossed the line on lap five. On lap nine, the caution was displayed for Ray Swinehart. When green flag racing resumed, Ryan Watt powered into the lead followed by Kressley and Pauch. Watt remained the pace setter with Billy Pauch Jr. now in the chase and in a position to challenge for the lead.

Jeff Strunk was on the move, racing in third followed by Duane Howard and Kressley as the field passed for the halfway sign. Watt held off Pauch until lap twenty-three when Pauch made the move to take the lead. Following Pauch was Howard, Watt, Strunk and Kressley.

Howard began reeling in race leader Billy Pauch Jr. and on lap thirty, Howard was on the rear bumper of Pauch and challenging for the lead. Slower traffic was ahead of the race leaders and Pauch was lapped cars. The battle went on for the lead.

The turning point of the race took place on lap thirty-six, as Pauch and Howard were in a side-by-side run for the lead, Pauch slowed and it appeared that he broke, with his car nearly coming to a stop in turn two. The caution was displayed and shortly after, Pauch regained power. The yellow was displayed for Pauch so he was required to restart at the rear of the field.

This advanced Duane Howard to the lead followed by Ryan Watt, Jeff Strunk, Craig VonDohren (who started 19th) and Brett Kressley. At the drop of the green flag, Howard was on top with Watt trying to hunt down the leader as Jeff Strunk and Craig VonDohren were in the thick of the battle with just five laps remaining.

Howard maintained his lead to win the inaugural running the MODS at the MADHOUSE followed by Jeff Strunk, Ryan Watt, Craig VonDohren and Rick Laubach driving the Glenn Hyneman 126. Billy Pauch Jr who brought out the caution on lap thirty-six and restarted at the rear of the field, worked his way back to a solid tenth place finish. Doug Manmiller, winner of the third heat race did not start the feature due to a rule infraction with the motor. Craig VonDohren was forced to run the consolation after losing a wheel during the running of a heat trace.

Brad Brightbill (WoS photo)

A twenty-four car starting field answered the call for the twenty-five lap Sportsman feature. Joe Funk led the first lap with Brad Brightbill taking the lead on lap two. Brightbill was challenged numerous times by Jorden Henn and later Ryan Lilick was chasing the race leader. At the halfway point of the event, Brightbill remained the leader followed by Ryan Lilick, Henn, Craig Whitmoyer and Funk.

Brightbill easily handled the competition and with five laps to go, he maintained a comfortable lead. Brightbill took the win over Ryan Lilick, Craig Whitmoyer, Jorden Henn and Brett Kressley.

Mike Haggenbottom (WoS photo)

The TSRS sprint car feature was the final event of the evening and Tim Tanner was the leader at the drop of the green flag after two previous attempts to start the 25 lap feature. After the feature got started, the twenty-five lap main ran non-stop to the checker flag. Leavittown, PA driver Mike Haggenbottom caught Tanner on lap seven and one lap later, Haggenbottom was the new leader. Haggenbottom established a solid lead but deep in the pack Kevin Nagy, David Brown and Adam Carberry where heading to the front. Nagy and Brown advanced to third and fourth and began chasing down Tanner.

In the closing laps, slower cars were now playing a factor as Tanner inched closer to Haggenbottom with Nagy and Brown reeling in Tanner. Haggenbottom rallied home the winner. In victory lane, Hagenbottom was thrilled that after twenty-five years, he finally won a feature at Grandview Speedway, and he did it in convincing style. Tanner finished second followed by Kevin Nagy, Dave Brown and Adam Carberry.

CRAIG VONDOHREN WINS FIFTH FREEDOM 76 MODIFIED CLASSIC, POCKETS MORE THAN $25,000 AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA. September 20, 2015 . . . For the second time in his racing career at Grandview Speedway, Craig VonDohren scored a three-peat. In 2006 he won the Forrest Rogers Memorial, the Freedom 76 and was the track point champion. Saturday night the Oley speedster repeated the same accomplishment. The victory coming at the wheel of the Harring Transportation/Pioneer Pole Buildings #1c marked the first time since 2008 that the Oley, PA racer was able to grab the top spot in the rich classic and the win marked the 30th year since the veteran talent won his first Freedom 76 back in 1985.

The newly crowned champion earned $25,000 for the win, plus over $500 in lap money. The victory didn’t come easy as he out-dueled Billy Pauch, Duane Howard and Jeff Strunk throughout the race and finally close runner-up Billy Pauch Jr. along with dicing through heavy lapped traffic. He also received the Dan’s Deli ½-way leader hoagie award.

Through the luck of the draw, dirt track racing legend Billy Pauch started on the pole and set the pace for the 32-car lineup for two laps before Kevin Hirthler spun in the fourth turn for the caution. On the restart VonDohren, third-place starter, shot to the outside coming off the second turn to move into the lead.

It didn’t take VonDohren long to outdistance himself leaving father Pauch and son Billy Jr. jockey for second while Jimmy Horton and Danny Erb completed the top five. Ryan Watt, seventh-place starter, soon joined the thick of the battle.

John Willman stopped along the homestretch for the 19th lap caution. VonDohren continued his dominance, by but now second through fifth consisted of Pauch, Howard, who started 16th; Pauch Jr. and Watt.

Howard cleared Pauch on the 24th lap and took chase after VonDohren, already encountering lap traffic as they were racing for positions as well.

On the 35th lap Ryan Godown hit the guardrail which slowed his momentum. Pauch coming full steam made contact and the two tangled in the fourth turn. Godown, not happy with the turn of events, refired and drove into Pauch not once, but twice, to show his displeasure. This continued with neither one giving up and both were disqualified for their auctions. At the same time a mandatory fuel stop brought out the red.

The restart lined up with VonDohren, Howard, defending race winner Stewart Friesen, who worked his way up from 15th; Horton and Strunk, who started deep in the pack in 27th. Von Dohren moved the Nick Gatto powered car out quickly as he knew the others behind him had the same incentive in mind – win the race.

A three-way battle for the lead ensued by lap 50 between VonDohren, Howard and Friesen with Strunk closing quickly.

Andy Bachetti, John Willman and Ryan Grim spun in the first turn as the front runners bore down on them bringing out the 59th lap caution. VonDohren and Strunk, who moved into second on lap 58, got by, however Friesen wasn’t as fortunate and he made contact with the melee. Friesen was through for the night towed back to the pits out of contention. Howard, who had fallen to fourth, pitted with a flat tire, but after a quick pit stop rejoined the race. On the restart Von Dohren maintained the lead on the high line with Strunk trying to get by on the inside.

On the 66th lap VonDohren on the outside and Strunk trying a run one groove higher yet made contact along the homestretch. VonDohren said later that he saw Strunk on the outside of him, but at the time he was committed and they made contact.

The final yellow was on the 68th lap when Horton and Doug Manmiller tangled in the second turn. Manmiller was put to the rear for the incident. Before the restart Strunk had to pit with a flat tire and was able to rejoin the race.

It was still VonDohren in front on the restart trailed by Pauch Jr., Ray Swinehart, Kenny Gilmore and Howard who was coming back to the front strong.

VonDohren kept the competition behind and pulled into the winner’s circle for his fifth win of the season followed by Pauch Jr., Swinehart, Howard and Gilmore. Rounding out the top ten were Tommy Scheetz III, Erb, and Frank Cozze, who received the $581 Bobby Gunther-Walsh Hard Charger award in memory of Mike Bailey; Strunk and Rick Laubach.

The Don Schaeffer Racing Minuteman 20-lap event which was the last chance for five drivers to get into the 76er field was won by Frank Cozze. Tim Buckwalter was the leader for eight laps until Cozze charged past him.

Once Cozze was in front Buckwalter, Kyle Borror, Manmiller and Nate Christman diced for the remaining positions.

Cozze never surrendered first and secured a position in the running of the 45th annual Freedom 76 along with Borror, Buckwalter, Manmiller and Christman.

Tommy Scheetz III, Howard, Swinehart, Addison Meitzler, Kevin Hirthler and Meme DeSantis won the six 12-lap qualifying events. Consolation race winners were Kyle Weiss and Eric Biehn giving them an opportunity to participate in the Minuteman.

The 10-lap Pioneer Pole Buildings Cash Dash worth $1,000 went to Howard.

This was the last Saturday event at Grandview Speedway until October 17th when the Halloween Party Thunder on the Hill special is presented featuring a Modified/358 Modified event along with Sportsman and TSRS Sprints.

And on Sunday, October 18th, 12 noon, the Outlaw Enduro racers will be back in action along with the Blast from the Past Vintage racers.

Champions and outstanding performers from the 2015 season will be honored at the annual Awards Banquet set for the Gibertsville, PA Fire Co. Social Hall on Saturday, November 21.

HOWARD REBOUNDS FOR FOURTH WIN OF THE SEASON IN NASCAR MODIFIEDS, OGIN AND RYAN LILICK GRAB FEATURE WINS ON SUPERIOR RACING PRODUCTS NIGHT PRESENTED BY BERNHEISEL RACE CARS AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 30, 2015 . . . Duane Howard had a dismal 27th place finish last Saturday night at Grandview Speedway after an accident on the 21st lap of the Modified feature caused major damage to the rear end of the Petruska team-owned No. 66 and put him out of action. The five-time point champion rebounded 26 positions this week to pull into victory lane for the fourth time this season in the T.P. Trailers NASCAR Whelen 30-lap 358 Modified feature. Kevin Hirthler, whom he battled with for several laps before he made the pass when Hirthler got hung up behind lapped traffic came home second on Superior Racing Products Night presented by Bernheisel Race Cars.

Dave Ogin, having the best season of his career, put the Taylor White and Wanda Brown owned No. 31 into the winner’s circle for his second career win in the 30-lap NASCAR BRC Late Model feature.

Ryan Lilick scored his third win by taking home the checkered in the 25-lap NASCAR Sportsman feature.

All feature winners received monetary awards from T.P. Trailers, Limerick. VP Racing Fuels had product awards for the top finishers using their product. And Superior Racing Products/Bernheisel Race Cars gave out thousands of dollars in product awards for Late Model racers that qualified.

At the onset of the Modified feature, polesitter Ron Haring Jr. set the pace for seven laps before Hirthler, seventh-place starter, took control of the reigns.

With Hirthler now in control, trying to unseat him were Mike Gular, Haring Jr., Ryan Grim and Kyle Borror.

Meme DeSantis brought out the yellow on lap 11 when he stopped along the backstretch out of competition. The restart was void after Borror hit the backstretch wall with heavy contact. He was uninjured. Haring Jr. was sent to the rear for the incident. Hirthler was still in front on the restart, but by now Mike Gular, Grim, Howard and Doug Manmiller, ninth, fifth, 14th and 13th-place starters respectively were the challengers.

Howard overtook second just as the caution flew on the 17th lap when Todd Smith stopped on the backstretch. It was still Hirthler running the high lane ahead with Howard trying to make a move on the inside.

While Hirthler and Howard diced for first, the action behind them was hot and heavy between Grim, Gular and Jeff Strunk, who came from 18th. Craig Von Dohren, who started 15th, was trying feverishly to break into the top five.

With three to go, Howard made the pass for the lead along the backstretch when Hirthler wasn’t able to get around a lapped car quick enough.

Grim, who was right in the thick of things having a solid fourth-place run at the time, was plagued with mechanical problems once again and came to a stop in turn two with two laps remaining. Howard pulled away fast since he knew Hirthler wasn’t about to give up without a fight.

Howard kept the competition at bay and chalked up career win No. 68 followed by Hirthler, a three-time feature winner this season; Gular, for his best finish; J. Strunk and Von Dohren. Sixth through tenth were Danny Erb, Nate Christman, Manmiller, Jared Umbenhauer and Frank Cozze.

Heats were won by Smith, Borror and Hirthler while Umbenhauer took the consolation race.

After two failed attempts, the Late Model feature finally got a lap in with Steve Wilson in the lead followed by Shawn Horning, Kyle Merkel, Steve Gross and Kory Fleming.

K. Merkel moved into second on the third lap and put in his bids for the lead running the high line. K. Merkel made several runs to overtake Wilson with each try uneventful.

With a few laps Wilson soon had some breathing room since K. Merkel and Ogin jockeyed for second with Ogin overtaking the spot on the 16th lap.

Now not only did Wilson have to contend with the slower moving cars, Ogin was right on his bumper with five to go.

Ogin made his move off the second turn and was able to make the pass stick for first with two laps left.

The lead never changed and Ogin went on to pick up the win. Chasing him across were Wilson, Fleming, Dan Green and K. Merkel. Chuck Schutz, Lou Egrie Jr., last week’s feature winner; Wayne Pfeil, Jason Miller and Sean Merkel completed the top ten.

Egrie Jr. and Bill Henning won the heats.

Steve Young was the early pacesetter of the Sportsman feature with Mark Kemmerer, already a feature winner; Kyle Lilick, Paul Kline and Ryan Lilick in tow.

R. Lilick was making very bold moves as the front runners approached lap traffic and at the completion of lap 10 he was the new leader.

Current point leader Brett Kressley was out of competition after he spun in the second turn bringing out the yellow and was finished for the night in 24th. R. Lilick was still ahead on the restart.

By the Dan’s Deli Halfway mark R. Lilick was pursued by Kline, Young, Jim Housworth and last week’s feature winner Brad Brightbill.

With five laps to go Brightbill overtook second and took chase after R. Lilick.

No one was able to pass R. Lilick and he was able to win his third career victory. He won his first ever feature on July 18, 2015 and has been knocking on the door every week. Brightbill hung on for second followed by Kline, Housworth and Jordan Henn. Rounding out the top ten were Brad Arnold, Kemmerer, Brett Gilmore, Mike Lisowski and Young.

Young, Kyle Lilick and Kemmerer won the heats. The consolation race went to Ryan Shupp.

The final tripleheader Saturday night show of stock car racing for the 2015 season is set for Saturday, September 5 when Marshall Home Services of Skippack Night is presented. This will be the final point events, the championships decided, for the NASCAR T.P.Trailers 358 Modifieds, BRC Late Models and Sportsman racers. Action will get the green at 7:30 p.m. Admission for adults is $15 while youngsters under the age of 12 are admitted free.

Advance tickets for the Freedom 76 are still available for $35 for adults, $10 for youngsters 6-11 and those under 6 are admitted free. There are still lap and heat sponsorships available for the September 12 Modified Classic that rewards the winner with $25,000.
