INDOOR AUTO RACING ACTION SET FOR BOARDWALK HALL TWO NIGHTS, JANUARY 26-27
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ January 23, 2018 . . . The most prestigious Indoor Auto Race meet in the east, the Atlantic City NAPA Know How Indoor Race, is ready to roar inside Boardwalk Hall this Friday and Saturday January 26 and 27 with the most coveted prize of all, the Three Quarter (TQ) Midget Gambler’s Classic victory, at stake.
Only eight men have won the Gambler’s Classic since its first race in 2003. Anthony Sesely of Matawan, NJ and Erick Rudolph of Ransomville, NY. have dominated the recent event history, each winning three of the last six Classics
Both are entered in this year’s race and are among the favorites.
Two time past winners are Joey Payne of Fairlawn. NJ. Lou Cicconi, Jr., of Aston, PA, and the late Ted Christopher. Canadian Andy Mackereth, Jeff Heotzler of Wallkill, NY and Mike Tidaback of Little Falls, NJ are the three single Classic winners.
Payne is an entrant in this year’s race along with his son Anthony. Cicconi is not driving but has entered several cars as an owner.
The NAPA Know How Weekend and the Gambler’s Classic is part of the Indoor Auto Racing Series Fueled By VP Racing Fuels.
Ryan Flores of Cornelius, NC is the defending Series champion. He will be joined in Boardwalk Hall by Jimmy Blewett of Howell, NJ, who maintains Flores’ TQ Midget. Blewett missed the Series opener earlier this month in Allentown, PA while Flores was leading both features late in the race when a slow tire leak and a failed oil filter ended his bids in each race.
Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, NY and Scott Kreutter of Buffalo, NY are also expected to be extremely competitive, having each won a TQ Midget feature in the Allentown opener. Over 70 TQ entries are expected.
The quest for victory in the prestigious NAPA Know How weekend will begin on Friday, January 26th, with TQ Midgets racing in four 20 lap events to determine the front end of the starting lineup for Saturday’s Gambler’s Classic. Each of the 70 TQ’s entered will compete in what often is the best races of the weekend on Friday night.
The unpredictable Slingshots and agile Champ Karts will also run Friday night events that will help set their line-ups for Saturday races.
Cale Ross of Lambertville, NJ is the defending Champ Kart Atlantic City race winner. Ross, a dirt Sportsman racer, also won the Indoor Series race opener in Allentown, PA earlier this month.
The Slingshot division promises to be a wide open affair. with defending race winner Gary Hieber, Jr. not entered this year.
The NAPA Know How Atlantic City Indoor Race moves into high gear on Saturday, January 27th with the running of a full slate of qualifying races and the 16th annual Gambler’s Classic TQ Midget 40-lap main event. Champ Karts and Slingshots will also run 25-lap features on Saturday.
On Friday, January 26th doors will open for spectators at 6:00 PM with racing starting at 7:30.
The Saturday schedule calls for doors to open at 5:00 PM with racing starting at 7:00 PM.
The early opening of the Boardwalk Hall doors Saturday is to allow fans extra time to visit ‘Fan Fest’, a fun and exciting time for fans of all ages to meet the drivers and car owners, have their souvenir programs and event shirts autographed and have pictures taken with their favorites before the racing starts.
Good seats remain available for both nights of action through Ticketmaster or at the Box Office.
The Indoor Series finale will be a first annual event in New York State, on Friday and Saturday night February 9th and 10th in the Times Union Center in downtown Albany, N.Y. Both events in Albany will be complete shows with features each night for the TQ Midgets and the Slingshots. Champions will be crowned after Saturday night’s main events.

JIMMY BLEWETT READIES FOR NAPA KNOW HOW WEEKEND INSIDE ATLANTIC CITY’S BOARDWALK HALL FOR 16TH RUNNING OF THREE QUARTER MIDGET GAMBLER’S CLASSIC
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ January 15, 2018 . . . Versatile Jimmy Blewett, whose racing resume of 125 career feature wins includes victories on both asphalt and dirt, is ready to race in the NAPA Know How Weekend inside Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall over the January 26th and 27th weekend.
“I didn’t have my own car ready for the Allentown race and spent the weekend helping my friend Ryan Flores with his car,” Blewett, who races out of Howell, N.J., said. “Now, the red, white and blue No. 76 is ready to win.”
Blewett’s talent as Flores’ setup man in Allentown was evident when Flores moved to the front of the field in both races. A slow tire leak and a cracked oil filter took Flores out of the lead late in each of the two races.
Blewett and well over 70 other Three Quarter (TQ) Midget drivers will be seeking victory in the prestigious Gambler’s Classic, a race first run by Len Sammons Motorsports Productions in 2003.
Only eight men have won the Gambler’s Classic. Anthony Sesely and Erick Rudolph have dominated the recent event history, each winning three of the last six Classics.
Two time past winners are Joey Payne, Lou Cicconi, Jr., and the late Ted Christopher. Andy Mackereth, Jeff Heotzler and Mike Tidaback are the three single Classic winners.
Blewett won ten times in three different classes of race car this past season at Wall (NJ) Stadium en route to winning the Modified championship, his first at the speedway in 15 years.
The fiery speedstar, whose nickname is ‘Showtime’, will go to post in Atlantic City aboard a Lafler chassis TQ Midget with a Dave Orange-prepared engine.
Blewett’s quest for victory in an Indoor Auto Racing Series Fueled By VP Racing Fuels race has been a five year chase. Despite several Series second and third place finishes, Blewett remains winless.
That’s a situation that could very well change, particularly in light of the fact that at the 2018 Indoor Auto Racing Series opener over January 5th and 6th, Justin Bonsignore, of Holtsville, N.Y., and Scott Kreutter, of Buffalo, N.Y., two drivers who had been trying for their first wins as long as Blewett has, each won for the first time.
Both Bonsignore and Kreutter are expected to provide Blewett with plenty of competition, as will Erick Rudolph, Ransomville, N.Y., an eight time Series past winner who didn’t score at Allentown but finished second and third in the pair of feature events.

Christopher Bell Goes Back To Back At The Chili Bowl
Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (January 13, 2018)... With the thunderous applause of packed grandstands, Oklahoma's Christopher Bell added his name to the history books yet again with his second Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire victory in as many years.
Handing Keith Kunz his seventh win as a car owner, and fourth consecutive since 2015, the weekend included three preliminary night wins and a Saturday night podium sweep.
"Once in a lifetime. This week was once in a lifetime," commented Kunz on his team's achievement.
Despite the win, Bell felt a sense of disappointment after he regained the lead in the closing laps when Kyle Larson's night ended with mechanical failure under the bonnet of No. 01.
"It's special to win the Chili Bowl. With over 300 something cars, it's always going to be special, but I'm disappointed. I feel like Kyle got robbed, I got robbed, and the fans got robbed. I wanted to race it out, and I know the fans wanted us to race it out too so I'm disappointed we didn't get to do that, but I'd rather be lucky than good any day," commented Bell.
Chasing Kyle Larson through the first 10 laps as the freshly tilled clay of the Tulsa Expo Raceway began to evolve, a restart on Lap 11 saw Bell charge the cushion for the lead off the fourth turn.
Caution on Lap 17, Larson held off the charge of Christopher Bell with the two pulling away from the field. Running down the back of the field, it was a high-speed chess match with Larson making the right move on Lap 26 to reclaim the top spot. Steadily pulling away as Bell found himself mired behind slower cars, the race came under caution on Lap 34.
Back to green with Bell unable to keep pace, Kyle was well ahead before his pace began to slow a few laps later. With Bell closing, the reason for the drop in speed made itself known as the engine gave out a massive cloud of smoke on Lap 41.
Ducking into the infield, the iRacing No. 01 came to a rest well away from the racing surface.
With a straightaway advantage and slower cars around, Bell was pursed by Rico Abreu but the traffic was not enough to slow the No. 71w enough for Rico to challenge as the checkered flag fell with Bell winning by 3.162 seconds, and lapping past 10th place.
Rico Abreu in second, the third member of the Kunz camp on the podium was Spencer Bayston. Racing through the field from 17th, Tanner Thorson's day began in the first C-Feature before ending with a fourth-place run in the A-Feature. Earning the final transfer from the first B-Feature, California's Ryan Bernal stormed through the field to fifth after starting 23rd.
Despite an issue with the engine, Brad Sweet held on to finish sixth with Justin Grant in tow. Chase Johnson's first appearance in the Saturday finale ended in eighth with Kevin Thomas, Jr. ninth. Rolling from 24th, Chad Boat made up the top-ten.
Saturday's round of Alphabet Soup began with double N-Features. The biggest mover through the soup was Shane Stewart who advanced from L-Feature to I-Feature competition. 11 more drivers saw action in at least three features with another 91 in at least two features.
The weeklong Fastenal Flip Count reached a total of 70 among 60 drivers. All were able to walk away with Simpson also in on the mix at flips 25 and 50. For the 25th flip, a HANS Device was awarded to Brady Bacon with the 50th flip getting Seatbelts, which went to Shane Pace.
The 33rd Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire will take place January 14-19, 2019. Information on the event will be released in the next few weeks.

Chili Bowl Day 4

Picking up his second Friday night win at the Chili Bowl in as many years, California's Justin Grant worked the cushion masterfully on Vacuworx Qualifying Night (Chili Bowl / DB3 Imaging)
Justin Grant Hustles To Vacuworx Qualifying Night Victory
Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (January 12, 2018)... Justin Grant found the cushion early and never left it during Friday's 25 lap Vacuworx Qualifying Night A-Feature in the 32nd Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire.
Rolling past 2008 Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals Champion, Damion Gardner, on Lap 17 to claim his second consecutive Friday night victory for Clauson-Marshall Racing in the NOS Energy No. 17bc, Grant was ultimately pursued to the checkered flag by Spencer Bayston with Andrew Felker charging from 11th to grab the final transfer spot from Gardner on the final lap.
I'm always thinking about going high," commented Grant on his line of choice. "I knew the bottom would be slowing down. It was getting pretty thin there so I figured I could just bail off to the top and make up some ground on them."
Rolling off the grid second to Chad Boat, the Lawson Rock and Oil No. 84x bolted to the lead and took command of the cushion on the start. Setting the pace for four laps, Damion Gardner rolled the hub on the fourth lap to jump from third to first. Keeping pace over Boat with the pair staying within a half-second of each other, Grant began closing for the runner-up spot before the caution flew on Lap 14.
Taking advantage of the slow pace set by Damion to the start, Grant jumped to the runner-up position with Kasey Kahne in tow. With the cushion deep at both ends of the Tulsa Expo Raceway, Grant let momentum work to his favor with his move for the point coming on Lap 17 with the high-side pass off the second turn.
Leaving Damion to contend Spencer Bayston the following lap, the KKM No. 97k took second on Lap 18 and would begin to close the gap on Grant, but time was not on the side of the Indiana driver as Justin Grant picked up the win.Bayston in second was joined on the podium by Missouri's Andrew Felker. Suffering a crash that damaged the frame on Monday, Felker counted himself lucky to even be racing the Chili Bowl.
"I managed to make about three-quarters of a lap in practice and flipped it," explained Felker. "We took it to a chassis shop, and they normally work on Micros, so as they were straightening it, it sprung out of the braces and actually flipped off the table so it's been quite a week."
Damion Gardner ended up fourth with Kasey Kahne fifth. Pole Starter, Chad Boat, slipped back to finish sixth with New York's Tim McCreadie picking up 10 positions to finish seventh. Bricen James was eighth with Sheldon Haudenschild and Dave Darland making up the top-ten.
The B.C. Forever Pole Shuffler powered by Pizza Express will see 11 rounds of competition to set the first 12 starting spots in Saturday's 55 lap A-Feature. The Pole Shuffle will take place following the D-Features. Saturday, January 13, 2018 gets underway with Hot Laps for twin N-Features at 9:30 A.M. The first competitive green flag is set to drop at 10:00 A.M. Opening Ceremonies, Parade of States, and more will take place at 6:00 P.M. with the event going live on the MAVTV Motorsports Network at 7:30 (CT).
General Admission tickets, which double as a Pit Pass, are sold at the event and are $60 on Saturday. The ticket never sells out.

Christopher Bell led start to finish in Thursday's A-Feature, securing his place in Saturday's championship event, and another shot at a Golden Driller (Chili Bowl/Richard Bales)
Christopher Bell Dominates John Christner Trucking Qualifying Night
Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (January 11, 2018)... Treating Keith Kunz to his third trip to Victory Lane in as many nights during the 32nd Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire, Oklahoma's Christopher Bell put his title defense in high-gear with a dominating performance during Thursday's John Christner Trucking Qualifying Night.
Three for three in prelim night wins, Bell commented on the run by saying, "It's just good racecars. That's what it really boils down to. All my teammates have been really fast all week long. Keith just brings really, really good cars here."
Asked about the fact that Kunz is three-for-three on the week, Bell simply stated, "It's pretty remarkable."
Earning the pole in Thursday's 25-lap feature event, Bell stretched his lead to over a half straightaway before the race's first caution on Lap 4. Preferring the hub of the Tulsa Expo Raceway, Bell again gapped the field with Chase Jones working the hold onto the runner-up spot from Caleb Armstrong.
Slowed again on Lap 14, Bell saw a 4.760-second advantage evaporate as the field rolled single file to the green with Shane Golobic now in the mix with Chase Johnson on the restart.
Taking over second with eight laps to run, Golobic pursued the No. 71w on the cushion with Bell advancing off the hub as Shane came into view on the LED Screens in the closing laps. Looking like Bell was on his way to an easy victory, the caution flag took the place of the white; setting up a two-lap dash to the finish.
Keeping pace with the Bell through the first two turns, Golobic carried his run to the back-stretch, but a tap to the concrete and his momentum was gone as Bell ran to nearly a second advantage at the checkered flag to lock into his fifth career Saturday night A-Feature.
Going to his sixth championship feature with his runner-up performance, Shane Golobic was joined on the podium by Chase Johnson to secure his first trip to the big dance. Just missing the final transfer, Indiana's Tracy Hines crossed fourth with Caleb Armstrong shuffled to fifth.
Rolling from 17th, Ryan Bernal came up to sixth with Billy Pauch, Jr. seventh. Matt Sherrell from 13th came across eighth, followed by Tim Crawley in ninth. Jerry Coons, Jr. made up the top-ten.
While Bell grabbed the win, two drivers made headlines with runs to the A-Feature from D-Main competition. Suffering woes during their Heat Races, Michael Pickens and Tanner Thorson had to claw their way to the feature with Tanner Thorson advancing position 37 times to end up 11th in the A-Feature while Michael Pickens knocked down 39 spots to end his A-Feature 14th.
With John Christner Trucking Qualifying Night in the books, 258 drivers have drawn in for competition during the 32nd Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire. Thursday's lineup had 87 of those competitors on hand with 95 more slated to run on Friday. The Fastenal Flip Count saw some tense moments but ended the night at 42 on the week with all drivers able to walk away.
The 32nd Lucas Oil Chili Bowl National presented by General Tire continues on Friday, January 12, 2018, with the night sponsored by Vacuworx. The River Spirit Expo Center opens at 9:00 A.M. with Hot Laps at 4:00 P.M. and racing at 5:00 P.M. (CT).
