TSRS FEATURE “FOGGED OUT” AT NEW EGYPT – POSTPONED TO MAY 30TH
Posted by: | CommentsNew Egypt, NJ (May 9, 2015)...Due to fog and unsafe racing conditions, the officials of both New Egypt Speedway and The Tri-State Racesavers Series found it necessary to postpone the remaining fifteen laps of Saturday’s feature to a later date, which will be on May 30th, when the TSRS sprints make their return to New Egypt. Before the race was called, Adam Carberry, of Bensalem PA, was leading Gabe Fox, Karl Fryer, Tommy Carberry, and Joe Lord around the Central Jersey oval.
There were twenty-six TSRS/NERS sprints taking part of the “Mother’s Day” race, with three heat race wins going to Tim Tanner Jr, Mark Bitner, and Brad Franks. The consolation event was won by Dave Brown Jr. In honor of Mother’s Day, New Egypt Speedway gifted all of the ladies going into the front gates with a flower courtesy of John Gasko & Sons Farm and Greenhouses in Monroe Township, NJ.
The top eight finishers from each heat were qualified for the invert, allowing Gabe Fox and Adam Carberry to bring the field to the green. Gabe Fox led the first two laps of the feature, until Adam Carberry took over the top spot on lap three, charging hard on the outside. Carberry continued to lead heading into the fourth circuit, gaining over a half a straight away over Fox, with Karl Fryer now pressuring Fox for the second spot.
The red flag was brought out on lap five for Bob DeVault, who flipped violently down the backstretch after making contact with the number 99 of Stefanie Palmai, while exchanging for tenth position. Bob was darting through the field from his sixteenth starting spot, setting his sights on the top ten before the accident. DeVault thankfully walked away unhurt, but the condition of his All-State Auto Glass number 10 sprinter could not say the same. Meanwhile, Jeff Geiges exited his car in a hurry due to a fire occurring in his Hamill Flooring number 77, also walking away uninjured.
When the cars were all pushed off, in an attempt to begin the race again, officials decided to call the race, as the heavy fog settled, making it not only difficult for the drivers to see ahead of them, but it was impossible for fans sitting in the grandstands to see the front stretch.
Kody Kinser, cousin to sprint car great Steve Kinser, made his first start in a 305 sprint car this weekend at New Egypt, piloting TSRS rookie driver Zach Burd’s number 5Z. Kinser, who is a 410 sprint car regular, races primarily out in the Mid-West, made the hike from his Brownsburg IN hometown to race with TSRS after hearing about the popularity of the Series. Kinser commented on the difference between the 305’s and the 410’s, stating that even with the smaller motors, they are not easy to drive. At the time of the “fog-out”, Kody was running in 14th position. Kody is interested in coming back east hopefully this summer for the Jersey Rush in August with his 410 sprint car, also expressing much interest in racing with the Tri-State Racesaver Series again in the near future.
The next race on the TSRS schedule is set for Friday, May 22nd, at Bridgeport Speedway. Visit www.tsrs1.com or our Facebook page for more details on upcoming events.

EDDIE WAGNER MAKES A LAST LAP PASS FOR THE WIN AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY (May 2, 2015)
Bridgeport, NJ--Eddie Wagner, of Franklinville NJ, earned his first victory of the 2015 season, making a thrilling last lap pass to win over Dave Brown, Mike Haggenbottom, Jon Haegele, and Bob DeVault. This was Wagner’s first visit to victory lane since November of 2013, and by the looks of how well his season has started off, it does not look to be his last.
There were twenty-two TSRS sprint cars in attendance for the “Camera and Autograph” themed event, with two heat race triumphs going to Mike Haggenbottom and Adam Carberry. Before the night began, fans were able to meet and greet with their favorite drivers, receiving photos and autographs behind the grandstands at Bridgeport Speedway.
The field was inverted by 10, putting Dave Brown and Jon Haegele on the front row. As the field came around to take the green flag, it was Brown who shot to the lead going into turn one. Going down the back stretch and into turns three and four, Mike Haggenbottom and Eddie Wagner seemed to be on a mission, with Wagner advancing from fifth to third and Haggenbottom coming from ninth to the sixth position. The caution came out on lap two for the first time for Tim Smolenyak who spun out in turn four.
On the restart, Brown brought the field to the green and when entering turn one, Jon Haegele went to the high side making an attempt to capture the lead. Going down the back stretch it was Haegele and Brown drag racing for the top spot with Haegele once again sailing his bright orange number 61 CRC sponsored sprinter around the top, this time taking over the lead on lap three. A second caution was brought out on lap three for Scott Frack, who spun in turn three.
With the cars all bunched back together, Jon Haegele lead the field down the front stretch, again using the top side to his advantage, pulling away from the field as the race continued on. Although the 61 was making the high side look like the fastest way around the high speed oval, Eddie Wagner was making his way to the front by working the inside, taking second spot from Dave Brown on lap six. Mike Haggenbottom, who was also maneuvering his way on the bottom moved into fourth position, just in time to make it into the show that was unfolding between the top three.
“With this new clay, the racing is so much better,” says Wagner about the multi-groove racing. “We’re able to run where ever we want, making it a much better show for the fans, and a great time racing out there for us drivers. I can’t thank Danny, Keith, Brian and Dave enough for all they do to provide us with a great race track every time TSRS comes to Bridgeport”.
Lapped traffic came into play on lap nine, and Wagner, Brown and Haggenbottom began to gain some ground on the leader. On lap eleven, the AC Racing number 70 of Eddie Wagner seized the lead from Jon Haegele while chopping back and forth between the slower cars. On lap twelve however, Haegele captured the lead back from Wagner running again on the high side coming out of turn two. Wagner almost got tangled with the lapped car of Smolenyak, who was pulling off onto the quarter mile track down the front stretch, but was able to recover, not losing the second position or much ground on the 61 car. Dave Brown, who was running in third, seemed to have pulled a magic trick out of his hat, when he passed both Wagner and Haegele on the high side in turns three and four on lap thirteen, capturing his early lead back in a crowd pleasing way. Maneuvering through heavy lapped traffic continued with Dave Brown leading, Eddie Wagner second, and Mike Haggenbottom now sitting in third after passing Haegele coming out of turn three. The third and final caution of the night came out for Zack Burd, who was sitting on the front stretch after spinning.
When asked about his preference to the inside lane, Wagner explained “The leaders were running the top, and the bottom was left open, so I didn’t feel the need to go up there. My car always runs well on the inside groove, so I just focused on being fast down there, so when I caught the leaders, I would be able to pass them without any trouble”.

#70 Eddie Wagner #44 David Brown (WoS photo)
With six laps remaining, and no lapped cars in sight, the winner was soon to be determined with at least five possible contenders now in line ready to take to final green flag. Dave Brown took the lead, stretching it out over ten car lengths down the back straight away on the fourteenth circuit, with Eddie Wagner sitting in second, not showing any signs of giving up. Haggenbottom began putting the pressure on Wagner for second, but the number 70 did not let up and continued to hunt down Dave Brown and his Ennis Fuels & Burners Service number 44 machine for the front-running spot. While Brown worked the top and Wagner, again showing favoritism to the bottom, Eddie finally took the lead on lap nineteen and never looked back. With the checkered flag waving, Eddie Wagner took the win, with Dave Brown finishing a strong second place, Mike Haggenbottom coming home in third, Jon Haegele finishing fourth, and Bob DeVault rounding out the top five, finishing fifth.
Eddie, who has had a history of heart breaks throughout his six year sprint car racing career, took time to thank the ones who have helped him through the years. “Without the help of my dedicated crew guys, Mark “Shag” Dundon, Marco Michetti, and Brandon Weber, my family for all of their continuing support, the Purks Family at Langhorne Racing Engines for getting my engine program back in order, AC Racing & Palmco Race Car Repair, tonight would not be possible. I can’t forget my Dad who was unable to make it tonight because he was stuck at work, because without him, I would not be standing here today”.
The TSRS Sprints return this coming Saturday on May 9th at New Egypt Speedway for the second time this season. Pit gates open at 3 pm, front gates open at 4 pm, hot laps start at 5:15 pm, and racing starts at 6 pm. LORD HOLDS OFF WAGNER & HAGGENBOTTOM TO WIN CO-SANCTIONED FEATURE EVENT AT NEW EGYPT
Posted by: | CommentsLORD HOLDS OFF WAGNER & HAGGENBOTTOM TO WIN CO-SANCTIONED FEATURE EVENT AT NEW EGYPT
New Egypt, New Jersey
By Erika Palmai Wagner
Joe Lord, of Allentown NJ, claimed not only his first victory of the 2015 season, but also the very first TSRS/NERS co-sanctioned feature event of the year. Lord led all twenty laps of the electrifying 305 sprint car showdown, with hotshot competitors Eddie Wagner and Mike Haggenbottom lurking closely behind, looking to capture their first win of the season as well. It was Lord though, who ultimately mastered the heavy lap traffic ahead, with Wagner, Haggenbottom, Tim Tanner Jr. and Dave Brown Jr. rounding out the top five.
There were twenty-nine competitors signed in for the night’s events, with three heat race wins going to Bob DeVault, Brad Franks, and Mark Bitner. The b-main event was won by rookie Randy Wilbert.
This was the first time the Tri-State Racesaver Series had returned to New Egypt Speedway in over a year, and what a way to come back!

#70 Eddie Wagner #9 Joe Lord (WoS photo)
Joe Lord and Eddie Wagner set the pace, front running the field to the green flag. Lord took charge of the lead immediately over Wagner. Mike Haggenbottom, who started in sixth place, sling-shotted his way to the top groove of turn one, finding his way to the second position coming out of turn two. By the time the lead cars were coming out of turn four to complete the first lap, the first and only caution of the race came out for Harris Kohen who spun out in turn two. With no laps completed, this meant the field was to return back to their initial starting positions.
On the restart, Joe Lord rushed to the lead with Eddie Wagner following in second. By lap two there was already some excitement beginning to erupt with the battle for third position between Tim Tanner Jr., Mike Haggenbottom and Chris Allen. The leaders reached lap traffic by lap five, but they were having no problem diving in and out of the slower cars. Samantha Lieberman made contact with the turn two outside wall, but saved her car enough not to bring out a second caution.
By lap 12, Lord had skimmed through some of the slower traffic and had clear sights ahead until reaching yet another pack of lapped cars. With the ten car length lead he had gained while running in clean air, Wagner was beginning to close the gap up, with Haggenbottom trailing not far behind.
"I didn't really think about who was behind me and how close they were during that time," stated Lord. "I figured my lead had shortened but it wasn't the main thing on my mind. With the deterioration of track conditions and the traffic, my main focus was to stay calm and patient, and to not force the situation."
In traffic, Wagner, who had reached Lord by lap sixteen, attempted multiple times to make the winning pass, but he could not complete the act. Both drivers showed their patience and skills throughout the feature, while still remaining determined to end as a victor. Mike Haggenbottom reached both cars by lap seventeen, throwing in his attempts to claim the top spot, but like Wagner, he too could not complete the pass.
Lord explained that he did not feel much pressure from Eddie and Mike the last few laps, even though they were closing in. "I knew where my line was and I knew where the lapped cars would be, and knowing that gave me the confidence to keep my cool and pull it off. For the last few laps, patience was the main thing on my mind. I knew I didn't have much tread left in my tires and with the unpredictable lapped traffic, I had to keep a cool head."
On the last tour around the Central Jersey D-Shaped oval, Wagner seemed to gain momentum going down the back stretch, coming up quickly on Lord going into turn three. Wagner dove in high and tried to come out low, peddling the car slowly enough not to break loose the back tires, but Joe Lord came out of turn four a car length quicker, grabbing the win.
Joe, who struggled the first few weeks of the season was very pleased with the outcome of the feature. "I'd like to thank Mark & Fred Bitner for all their help in getting this car dialed in over the past few weeks. I'd also like to thank Mark Smith at Mach 1 chassis, and my sponsors Hamilton Automotive, Lord Legal Nurse Consultants LLC, Bitner Automotive, and the entire Lord Racing Team, especially my cousin Mike Lord and my brother Rob Lord. Finally, I'd like to thank the man who made this all possible, my father, Joe Lord Sr."
Next Saturday, May 2nd, The Hilborn Fuel Injection Tri-State Racesaver Series returns to the “fastest dirt track on the East”, Bridgeport Speedway. The main gates are open at 4:40pm, hot-laps are set to begin at 5:20pm and heat races will be on the track by 6pm. Visit www.tsrs1.com or our Facebook page for more details on upcoming events.

RYAN STILLWAGGON EARNS FIRST CAREER SPRINT CAR VICTORY WITH TSRS AT BRIDGEPORT (Bridgeport, NJ)
By Erika Palmai Wagner
Ryan Stillwaggon, of Burlington, NJ, earned his first career sprint car victory Friday Night with the Tri-State Racesaver Series at Bridgeport Speedway. Stillwaggon held off a hard charging Bob DeVault in a thrilling twenty lap feature event at the newly resurfaced South Jersey five-eighths mile. Adam Carberry, who was a close contender for the win as well settled for third, Mike Haggenbottom, who pitted early in the race, restarted twenty-second and came through the field and finished 4th, and Eddie Wagner round out the top five finishing fifth.
Three heat race events were presented for the field of twenty-two 305 Sprints with victories going to Brad Franks, Mike Haggenbottom, and Eddie Wagner.

#77 Jeff Geiges #11 Ryan Stillwaggon (WoS photo)
Ryan Stillwaggon and Jeff Geiges led the field to the green with Stillwaggon taking strong control of the top spot over Geiges. The first caution was brought out on lap 1, with Tim Tanner clipping the inside wall of turns one and two, side lining Tanner with front end damage, prematurely ending his attempt to challenge for the win.
Restarting the field in double file fashion, Stillwaggon checked out once again with Eddie Wagner climbing up the ranks very quickly from his 5th starting spot, obtaining two positions by lap 2, moving him up to third. Stillwaggon continued to show his dominance with a strong lead, followed by Jeff Geiges, Eddie Wagner, Adam Carberry and Bobby Devault who started back in 12th. Another caution was displayed on lap 5, with Samantha Lieberman spinning and coming to a stop in turn 3.
The green flag dropped to restart the race and Stillwaggon, Geiges and DeVault, who took advantage of the restart slicing and dicing his way to the 3rd spot, were the top three. Another caution was displayed on lap 6, with Dave Brown stopping in turn 3.
On the next restart, it was Adam Carberry and his green number 47 who took advantage of the very fast outside groove, jumping from 5th to 3rd, and then moving quickly to 2nd on the top by lap 10. Stillwaggon, showing the supremacy of his SEC Racing Engine power plant, continued to display his authority over the field with over a half a straightaway lead over the stout competition behind him. By catching up to lapped traffic, this allowed Carberry, DeVault, Haggenbottom and Wagner to reel him in. Bob DeVault, who started the feature back in 12th place, challenged Carberry for 2nd, defeating him and then set his eyes on the lead to which he conquered by lap 16. The caution was brought out for the final time due to a car stopping on the front stretch. Things were about to get interesting.

#10 Bobby Devault #11 Ryan Stillwaggon (WoS photo)
On the final restart, Bob DeVault lead the field to the final green flag, but Stillwaggon, who lost possession of the top spot a lap before, was not going to give it up without a fight. Stillwaggon challenged DeVault in a side by side dash down the back stretch, with the number 11 regaining the lead on lap 17. For the final laps, DeVault continued to challenge Stillwaggon, offering multiple runs at the lead, but Ryan prevailed. With the checkered flag in the air, Ryan Stillwaggon took his Quality Auto Body number 11 sprinter to victory lane with Bob DeVault finishing a close second, Adam Carberry third, Mike Haggenbottom fourth and Eddie Wagner finishing fifth.
