WINDOM GROOVES AT THE GROVE FOR EASTERN STORM NIGHT 2 WIN

Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.....June 15 - Chris Windom grew up racing and winning at Williams Grove Speedway.
No, not in the physical sense. But he was a regular at the famed track in his younger days every time he sat down in front of the tube and plugged in his PlayStation 2.
Winning at The Grove in virtual reality is one thing. Winning at the half-mile dirt oval in real life is the real deal. Now, the Canton, Illinois wheelman can say he's done it twice in two different types of racecars.
Two years following his spectacular Silver Crown win there, Windom returned to Williams Grove victory lane, this time in a USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car, Friday night in round two of the 12th annual "Eastern Storm" tour.
Windom lined up 5th in the 23-car field for the 30-lapper as Robert Ballou spurted to the lead from his outside front row starting position. Thursday night Grandview winner Brady Bacon was electrified as well, knifing between Timmy Buckwalter and C.J. Leary to migrate from 4th to 2nd heading into turn three.
Ballou and Bacon were the class of the field early on, gapping the third-place car of Leary to the tune of a half-straightaway by the 5thcircuit. Ballou, who swept all three races of the 2015 Eastern Storm series, was aiming to put his name on the board as a winner for the first time this year with USAC. He was at the right place as nearly half his 28 career series wins have come on tracks a half-mile in length. Ballou proved his prowess on the bigger venues by negating Bacon for nearly the first two-thirds of the race.
By that point, Windom held down the third spot and was searching the Pennsylvania countryside for a way to rope the top-two in. The heavy racing surface providing lightning-quick lap times throughout the night, with newly-established track records set in qualifying and the heats, but proved to be a challenge for drivers trying to pick their way through a murderer's row of front runners that included the three most recent series' champs.
"It was just so locked down and heavy, and with a full fuel load, we couldn't really get on the throttle early on," Windom explained. "It finally started cleaning off a little bit on entry at both corners. I kind of started to haul it in there a little harder and try to get into a groove instead of just sliding wherever your car was going to go. (The track) started moving up and the bottom came in a little better, which worked out in our favor."

On the 20th lap, Bacon remained in attack mode, ready to swat the lead out of Ballou's hands at a moment's notice. In turn two, it finally came to fruition as Bacon powered off the bottom to rip by Ballou for the race lead. One lap later, Windom parroted the act, jetting past Ballou for 2nd.
Windom was now on the charge and Bacon was his intended target. Windom took a chance on laps 24 and 25, nearly nipping the inside guardrail with his left front rubber on corner entry in his pursuit of Bacon. Bacon's car began to shower sparks out of the rear as Windom zeroed in on the 26th go-around. Windom stuck a nose underneath Bacon between turns one and two, completing the process by the time the two hit the back straightaway to secure the top spot.
"The track finally started blowing off some with about 12 laps to go," Windom recalls. "(Bacon) was leading and I don't think he knew that he was missing the bottom or there was even more moisture. This place is so tough to get by a guy down the straightaways. I wanted to make sure that, when I made my move, I cleared him. I know he's a smart racecar driver. If I would've showed him a nose, he probably would've moved down, and I would've never been able to get by him."
Windom began to stretch his lead and the red-carpet, yellow brick road entrance to victory lane was a near certainty as the white flag loomed on the horizon. That is, until the yellow flag intercepted the proceedings for a turn 4 spin by Trevor Kobylarz, thus setting up a green-white-checkered finish and a chance for the two champs to duke it out one more time.

One night earlier, after losing the lead to Kevin Thomas, Jr. late in the going, Bacon's bid for a win seemed futile until the final two laps when he figuratively rose from the grave to reclaim the lead on his way to victory in the Eastern Storm opener.
Windom wasn't about to let this one slip through his hands as he hustled his Baldwin Brothers Racing/Fox Paving - AMSOIL/DRC/Claxton Mopar on the restart, gapping Bacon by five car-lengths as he led the field into turn one.
Windom was never fazed and never threatened following the final restart, finishing out his night with a 0.558 margin of victory over Bacon, Ballou, Thomas and series Rookie Timmy Buckwalter, who scored a career-best fifth-place result.
The win was the 20th of Windom's career, making him the 27th USAC National Sprint Car driver to reach the 20-win mark.

Hodnett Masters Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series At Williams Grove Speedway
MECHANICSBURG, Penn. (May 4, 2018) Wheeling the Trone Outdoor/Lealands.com No. 27 to a $4,000 score with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, Pennsylvania's Greg Hodnett dominated the 11 Oaks Farm Battle of the Groves at Williams Grove Speedway.
"Anytime we can win at this point is great for us," chuckled Hodnett. "We've been struggling this year so it's great anytime we can come out and compete. These guys are the best of the best in this type of racing. Mark [Smith] can go anywhere and win, and guys like Sam [Hafertepe] being a past champion, he's excellent so I'm just proud of this team."
The fifth winner in just as many events in 2018, Hodnett earned the FSR Radiator and Racing Products High Point Driver of the Night through the combination Heat/Qualifier format to position himself on the pole of Saturday's 25-lap A-Feature.
"We were lucky enough to position ourselves up front and take advantage of it and that was huge with the rubber coming in towards the end where there wasn't much passing. Everything went our way with this car just because we never got into traffic because of the yellows. Every time we came up on something, I would like it was going to get hairy because I didn't know what I was going to do, but everything just fell into place."
Working to slower traffic on Lap 10, the race's first caution flew for the No. 29 of Jason Shultz whose rear axle snapped rolling down the backstretch. Reverting to the last fully completed lap, Mark Smith tried to build a run on the No. 27 but would be denied as Steve Buckwalter went after Smith for second. Unchanged in the top-three, the cautions lights blinked on again on Lap 12 for Blake Hahn who came to a top in turn-four.
Rolling to green, the race at the front was for fifth as Lucas Wolfe set sights on Wayne Johnson. Finally getting a break for the fifth spot, on Lap 18, the following lap was Wolfe's last for the night as the left sideboard peeled off the wing of the No. 5w. Putting Johnson back to fifth, the final restart was not enough for anyone to get a run on Greg Hodnett, who sped away to a 1.082-second advantage at the drop of the checkered flag.
Mark Smith second was joined on the podium by Steve Buckwalter. Grabbing fourth, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. has taken over the point's lead with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com by 17 points. Completing the top-five was Wayne Johnson.
Chad Layton in sixth was tracked to the checkered flag by New York's Jason Barney. Picking up seven positions, Washington's Trey Starks was Friday's CP-Carrillo Hard Charger. Johnny Herrera crossed ninth with Davie Franek tenth.
A field of 46 drivers from 15 states, Australia, and Canada was on hand on Friday night's 11 Oaks Farm Battle of the Groves opener. Five Heat Races went to Johnny Herrera, Mark Smith, Jason Barney, Ryan Smith, and Chuck Hebing. A trio of Qualifiers was topped by Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Lucas Wolfe, and Greg Hodnett. Two B-Features went to Chuck Hebing and Seth Bergman, with Seth tearing from 11th to win the second B-Feature. Two provisional starts were utilized by Blake Hahn and Matt Covington.
The 11 Oaks Farm Battle of the Groves continues at Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday, May 5, 2018, with racing getting underway at 7:00 P.M. (ET). More information on Selinsgrove Speedway can be found online at http://www.selinsgrovespeedway.com.

Lance Dewease wins Tommy Hinnershitz Memorial from row seven
All Stars continue Central PA swing Saturday at Port Royal Speedway
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (April 13, 2018) - Fayetteville, Pennsylvania's Lance Dewease made it look easy on Friday night during the annual Tommy Hinnershitz Memorial, charging forward from the inside of row seven to move the Pennsylvania Posse to a perfect 33-0 against the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 at Williams Grove Speedway.
Dewease, pilot of the Don Kreitz, Jr.-owed/Schannauer Plumbing and Heating/Jimi's Thing/No. 69K sprint car, earned $5,000 for his efforts at the world-famous, paperclip-shaped half-mile, taking the lead officially on lap 24 to snag a second consecutive Tommy Hinnershitz Memorial title against the traveling All Stars. Impressive enough, the victory raised Dewease's overall Series win count to 36, seven of which at Williams Grove Speedway.
Brock Zearfoss, who led the first 23 circuits before surrendering the top spot to the National Sprint Car Hall of Famer, finished second, followed by Danny Dietrich, Chad Trout, and six-time and defending All Star champion, Chad Kemenah.
“Don, Davey; these guys just keep plugging away,” Lance Dewease said in victory lane. “I'm just so fortunate to be a part of this deal. We are having a lot of fun. Even when we aren't winning, we are still having a lot of fun. That's what this is all about. My guys work a lot harder than what people realize. That's why we run the schedule that we run. We just kinda keep things within our budget and do what we do.”
Dewease started his march toward the front right from the drop of the green flag, solidifying a position inside the top-five with just ten laps in the books. By lap 12, Dewease moved by Chad Trout for fourth, eventually working around Alvada, Ohio's Chad Kemenah to secure the third spot at the midpoint of the 30-lap program.
By lap 18, Dewease was all over Danny Dietrich for second, racing to the back bumper of the familiar Gary Kauffman Racing entry while the duo battled through traffic. Soon enough, Dewease drove around Dietrich to secure the runner-up spot, officially setting his aim on race leader, Brock Zearfoss.
Although Zearfoss had the clear advantage, maintaining a quick pace around the very topside of the speedway, Dewease closed the gap in a hurry, moving within striking distance at the exit of turn four on lap 23. Despite losing a drag race to the start/finish line, Dewease made his winning move at the entrance of turn one on lap 24, squeezing underneath the “Jonestown Jet” as the pair battled through turn two. From that point forward, it was all Dewease at the front of the field, ultimately surviving two consecutive cautions on lap 28, the only cautions of the main event, as well as a green-white-checker finish.
“I didn't even know I was leading,” Dewease explained. “Starting as far back as we did, I was just trying to move around cars as quickly as I could. When we got by [Danny Dietrich] and [Brock Zearfoss], I knew I had to be getting close. Then, when I got to the five-to-go signal, I was like ‘oh shit I'm leading this thing.' At that point, I knew I had to slow down. I needed to conserve my equipment and make sure I made it to the end.”
“I didn't know [Lance Dewease] was coming,” Brock Zearfoss said. “I was getting a little higher and higher in turns three and four, so I was able to see most of the racetrack. I kept looking down to see if anyone was there. When [Dewease] got down there below me, I knew I didn't want to give it up without a fight. I raced him clean, but I wanted him to earn it, which he did. Hats off to those guys. They deserve this one. We'll try again tomorrow at Port Royal Speedway.”
“We were really good in our heat race, but we really couldn't show it,” Lance Dewease continued. “Hats off to this track crew. They did a lot of work tonight to help us get a second lane. That helped out this race track a lot. If not, it would have been locked-down around the bottom.”
The Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 will continue their Central Pennsylvania invasion with a visit to Port Royal Speedway on Saturday, April 14. The first of three All Star appearances at the Juniata County Fairgrounds half-mile in 2018, the annual Keith Kauffman Classic will headline action at the “Speed Palace” tomorrow evening, honoring 129-time Port Royal Speedway winner, Keith Kauffman. Like the 2017 Hinnershitz Memorial, Lance Dewease conquered the 2017 Keith Kauffman Classic, keeping a pair of former All Stars, Ryan Smith and Dale Blaney, at bay.

12TH USAC AMSOIL NATIONAL SPRINT CAR SERIES EASTERN STORM THURSDAY, JUNE 14
BECHTELSVILLE, PA – One of the hottest tickets of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill season, the wingless warriors of the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Championship kick off their only East Coast tour at Grandview Speedway on Thursday night, June 14. The tradition continues as the Thunder Series opens this wildly popular annual tour.
In 2007, Thunder on the Hill special events promoter, Bob Miller and the Rogers Family, brought the nation’s longest touring Sprint Car group back to Pennsylvania after a nearly 30-year absence from the region.
“I vividly remember USAC being such an integral part of the Reading Fairgrounds history,” Miller recollects. “In some ways, my love of Reading made me so passionate about bringing USAC back to the east coast and specifically back to Berks County at Grandview.”
USAC came back in full force and remains one of the must-see events of the racing season.
Forty Eastern Storm events have been held since the debut of the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Championship in 2007. Levi Jones and Bryan Clauson are tied with the most wins of Eastern Storm history with six victories each. Five different drivers reached victory lane in 2017 – three for the first time in Storm history -- while Chris Windom went on to win the Eastern Storm Championship.
Heading into the 12th Eastern Storm, the Bechtelsville, PA 1/3-mile dirt track opens the tour with the Jesse Hockett Classic, a 40 lap battle for the non-wing 410 sprint cars. Joining the program will be the popular 358 NASCAR Modifieds. Gates open at 5 PM wit race time set or 7:30 PM. Grandview and Thunder on the Hill are the only facility to have held a USAC event in every year of Eastern Storm history. Defending winner of this event on the hill is Brady Bacon.
The series heads to Mechanicsburg, PA’s Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, June 15, while Port Royal Speedway brings the series into night number three on Saturday, June 16.
York Haven, PA’s Susquehanna Speedway lands on the schedule for the sixth consecutive year, on Sunday, June 17. For the first time, United States Auto Club drivers head to Bridgeport Speedway on Monday, June 18 and the Storm concludes on Tuesday, June 19 at Weedsport Speedway.
Past Eastern Storm winners like Robert Ballou – who swept all three 2015 events, Brady Bacon – who holds wins at Grandview Speedway and Port Royal Speedway, Chad Boespflug, and Chase Stockon are expected for competition.
The Eastern Storm kicks off on Thursday, June 14 with the Jesse Hockett Classic – dedicated to the memory of the 2009 Grandview race winner. Joining the USAC non-wing Sprint Cars are Grandview’s popular 358 Modifieds.

Advance ticket holders may enter the grandstands at 4:30 PM – a full 30 minutes before tickets go on sale to the public.

David Gravel, CJB Pocket $50,000 at Champion Racing Oil Williams Grove National Open
Donny Schatz, James McFadden both lead laps but settle for 2nd and 3rd
MECHANICSBURG, PA - September 30, 2017 - David Gravel passed Donny Schatz for the lead on lap six and went on to capture his 16th win of the season aboard the CJB Motorsports entry. It was Gravel's second career Champion Racing Oil National Open win at Williams Grove worth $50,000. Schatz and James McFadden completed the podium.
David Gravel was second in National Open event points, lining him up second in the Craftsman Club Dash. Gravel went on to win the event, lining him up on the pole of the $50,000 to win, 40-lap Feature.
Donny Schatz got the jump on the initial start and led the first five laps before Gravel took the lead on the front stretch, leading lap six. Friday night's winner, James McFadden worked by Schatz on lap 18 just before the yellow came out for a slowing Brian Montieth.
On the ensuing double-file restart, Gravel opted for the top giving McFadden the bottom, a somewhat unexpected move.
"I made a mistake and gave McFadden the bottom, luckily I was able to get around him on the top in three and four," a relieved Gravel said in Victory Lane.
McFadden hit the rubber off of turn two and took the lead down the backstretch and led lap 19, before Gravel powered back around the Australian the following lap. The next circuit Shane Stewart shredded a tire running sixth bringing out another yellow.
Schatz worked by McFadden on the restart and set his eyes on the CJB Motorsports No.5. A red flag on lap 28 for Jason Johnson, Kraig Kinser and Shane Stewart brought out an open red. All drivers were okay.
With the bottom being the preferred line around, Gravel was forced to slow his pace as he closed in on the back of the field. Schatz cut the lead down and was on Gravel's bumper as they received the two to go signal. Before Schatz could make a move, the final yellow of the night flew for Brian Brown, who cut down a tire running in the top ten.
The caution gave Gravel an open track which secured the $50,000 payday for he and the CJB Motorsports No.5 team.
"It's been a special year. I'm happy to solidify my place here with 3 wins at Williams Grove this season," Gravel said. "I wish we could have raced a little more tonight, but I'll take it."
Schatz settled for second. "We hit traffic and needed to stay there if we wanted a chance to get back by for the lead. We'll try and pick up some more wins this year and get that Championship," the eight-time and defending and current Series point leader said.
McFadden wished he would have been more aggressive once taking the lead, but was nonetheless happy with his weekend. His finish was easily good enough to secure the National Open Rookie Award worth $2,250 thanks to BeerHill Gang TV.
20th-starting Logan Schuchart earned the KSE Hard Charger award coming to fourth with Daryn Pittman completing the top five. Greg Hodnett, Kerry Madsen, Sheldon Haudenschild, 16th starting Brock Zearfoss and Jason Sides completed the top ten.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to action next Saturday October 7 at the Fulton Speedway in New York before returning to Central Pennsylvania the following weekend at the Port Royal Speedway.

James McFadden Scores First Career World of Outlaws Win on Night 2 of Williams Grove National Open
Donny Schatz, David Gravel, James McFadden and Daryn Pittman locked in to Saturday's Craftsman Club Dash
MECHANICSBURG, PA - September 29, 2017 - Australian James McFadden scored his first career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series win in exciting fashion holding off Greg Hodnett and Donny Schatz to win the second night of the Williams Grove Champion Racing Oil National Open. Heading into tomorrow's finale, Donny Schatz leads the National Open points and will be locked in to tomorrow's Craftsman Club Dash. David Gravel, McFadden and Daryn Pittman are also locked in to tomorrow's Dash.
McFadden, who has spent the majority of the past two Summer's running in Central Pennsylvania for Matt Highlands, won his heat race and the Craftsman Club Dash to earn the pole of the 25-lap Feature.
Racing was delayed twice due to rain throughout the evening, once during the C Main and again after the initial start of the Feature.
After the final rain delay, McFadden got the jump on the complete restart over fellow front row starter, Greg Hodnett. A lap three red flag for Jac Haudenschild, who went for a wild ride after Danny Dietrich and Trey Starks got together, halted the action. Haudenschild walked away from the incident. On the ensuing double-file restart, Dale Blaney received contact and ended up on the hook setting up a single-file start.
McFadden once again was strong extending his lead as he approached traffic. McFadden had no problems with the first few lapped cars but was slowed significantly as he approached Alan Krimes, on the bottom, and Brian Brown, on the cushion.
"The track was equal. The bottom and the top were nearly the same speed. Krimes kept hitting the bottom perfectly and Brown was flirting with that cushion. I nearly destroyed myself and ended up in the trees trying to get by them," McFadden said.
McFadden followed Krimes and Brown for the better part of the last ten laps, waiting to make a move. McFadden eventually got around Krimes but then was pinched hard by Brown, forcing him across the track allowing Krimes to get back by down low and more importantly allow Greg Hodnett and Donny Schatz to be on the leader's back bumper.
Luckily for McFadden, he was able to work through lapped traffic and fend off a late race effort from both Hodnett and Schatz to score both his first career World of Outlaws and Williams Grove win.
"This is pretty amazing. I have never won on a half-mile before and to do so in Pennsylvania is pretty crazy," an elated McFadden said in Victory Lane. The result was good enough for McFadden to lock into tomorrow's Craftsman Club Dash as he sits third in event points.
Hodnett, who finished just .244 behind McFadden, and Schatz completed the podium. Brad Sweet and Shane Stewart completed the top five.
The Champion Racing Oil National Open comes down to Saturday night where the winner will take home a hefty $50,000 check.

SCOTT ELLERMAN TOPS THE CHARTS IN CO-SANTIONED MASS/PASS RACESAVER SPRINT FEATURE AT WILLIAMS GROVE MECHANICSBURG, PA

Scott Ellerman took home quite a bit of hardware Friday night after winning the co-sanctioned Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series/PA Sprint Series Racesaver/IMCA twenty lap feature event at Williams Grove Speedway, as well as the Beer Hill Cup Summer Series championship which was sponsored by the famous Beer Hill Gang. Austin Bishop, Bobby Butler, Jaremi Hanson and Zach Newlin completed the top five.
An astounding forty-five cars came together at the historic Central PA half mile oval, with heat race victories going to Stephanie Dodson, Bobby Butler, Dave Brown and Jaremi Hanson, and two consolation wins going to Colby Dice and Jon Haegele.
The third place starting PA Sprint Series regular took the lead from Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series young gun Bobby Butler on lap five after an exciting battle for the top spot ensued between Ellerman and the two pole sitters Dave Brown and Butler. After taking over command of the top spot, the fight for the lead continued throughout the entire duration of the race with Butler staying within a car length away from Ellerman for the remaining fifteen laps.
“I knew we were going to have to be good on the top in order to be fast tonight, so we worked on the car in the pits after the heat race, and we kind of just threw something at it, and I’ll tell you what, if my front nose didn’t break, I think we could have had that race,” Butler said post-race.
“I heard him behind me, but I just kept on hitting my marks, and holding on to make sure he wouldn’t get by,” Ellerman explained. “We’ve won here before last year, and then one earlier this year at Susquehanna, so it’s a great feeling to be able to win tonight, and on top of that, the Beer Hill Cup! I just want to thank Matt Miller and the Beerhill Gang for sponsoring PASS and for allowing us to have the opportunity to be able to earn a little extra on top of what we already do. It’s great to have the support they give us.”
In the final circuits, fifth place starter Austin Bishop, who was steady running in third, began to catch ground on the top two running cars, looking more and more like another possible contender for the win as the laps counted down. Bishop, who has been a “bridesmaid” more times than one in his rookie season has been persistently eyeing his first career Racesaver/IMCA Sprint Car win, with just recently finishing in second the week before.
“Those first few laps, we had a hard time getting heat in the tire with those cautions, so once we were finally able to run some green flag laps, I started to figure out the line on the top,” Bishop stated. “I saw Bobby and Ellerman fighting up ahead, so I kind of took advantage of that, ran them down, and I took second from Bobby on the bottom, and by the time I looked up, the race was over. I’m defiantly looking for a win here real soon, so we are going to take this finish and what we learned tonight, and bring it to Bridgeport next weekend!”
With a three-race weekend on tap for the PA Sprint Series, many MASS drivers and teams like Dave Brown, Eddie Wagner, Tom Carberry, David Bonner, Scott Frack and Austin Bishop will continue onto Selinsgrove Speedway tonight, and then ending the extended race weekend tomorrow night at Susquehanna Speedway. Next Saturday, the Engler Machine and Tool Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series will return back to New Jersey, at Bridgeport Speedway, for the Mach 1 sponsored event. Teams will have the opportunity to compete for the advertised purse, as well as a bare front axle and nerf bar kit provided to the series by Mach 1 chassis.
