Nightly driver interviews and race cars of all types provide the race fan a full appetite of racing fun before the regular racing seasons begins. The Phillipsburg Mall, located on Route 22 East in Phillipsburg, NJ, has proven to be a popular setting for this special event and offers a multitude of race cars, racing memorabilia, collectibles and photos on display throughout the course of the show.

The show continues to be FREE of charge to the mall traffic and the 2019 edition of the show is the trend setter and show stopper of the many shows that are scheduled during the year.

The Quarter Midget stars arrived rarin’ to go to kick-off the show.. Emcee Justin Beltrame opened the show and introduced IRCO Vice President Greg Collins to the crowd. Collins once thanked the local racing community for their support and talked of the various offerings from the IRCO group and added the Tuesday night portion of the show is one of his favorite nights as he truly enjoys the answers and conversations the announcers are able to extract from the young stars, as some were giving their first ever interviews and through the quickly paced show were able to get the racing families on their way back home. Quarter Midget graduate and former USAC National Champion, Anthony “Chops” Chrobak, addressed the young stars with his thoughts of how he transitioned from the quarter-midgets to the next step of his career with a fourth place finish in points one season ago in the 270 Sprints and of his securing two wins in three races in the Stage One Modified Series. Anthony will be a regular in 2019 in a Stage One Modified race car at the Hamlin Speedway.

Justin Beltrame interviewed an energetic group of young driving stars from the area and without question once again proved the future of auto racing is in great hands with the drivers and the generous support of their families. The Quarter Midgets are a great way to begin the careers of the budding young drivers and many graduates of Quarter Midget racing have gone on to great racing careers in the sport and many of the drivers interviewed felt they would race the Quarter Midgets until their age requirements expire and then make the transition into one of the many offerings available in racing and the answers given would make all of us believe all of the speedways in the area will benefit from the early education these young stars acquire for their racing endeavors.

Drivers on hand included former USAC National Champion Anthony Chrobak, Jacob Bierman, Peyton Knecht, Louie Horavath, Charles Horvath, Cheyenne Breidenstein and McKenzie Smith.

The Wednesday evening show will be highlighting Hamlin Speedway, Snydersville Speedway, Accord Speedway and Orange County Fair Speedway and sponsored by Smith Fabrications/Stage One Modifieds and Hamlin/S&S Speedways.

The great fan base of racing can come out to this grand Mall event and be transported back to a time when they could hop into their family jitney and travel less than a half hour to witness the excitement of a night at the races.

All historical racing groups including Tri State, Flemington, Harmony through Greg Collins, Reading, Remembering Nazareth, Bob Snyder Photos and Snyder Video, Mike Ritter Photos and Mocatek Memories through Justin Beltrame and Wayne Stayer have their memorabilia on display and their many scrapbooks open for the fans to take another long look at the glory years of racing and possibly find a picture or two they want to purchase as a keepsake from past glory or racing exploits. PHILLIPSBURG MALL TO HOST FREE TO ATTEND RACE CAR EVENT. . . . .

NORTHEAST DIRT TRACK STAR BOB SCHMIDT MAKING FIRST QUAKER STEAK & LUBE DIRT TRACK HEROES APPEARANCE, WEEKLONG SHOW OPENS SUNDAY, MARCH 3

With the Dirt Track Heroes honoring a famed triple digit car number “555” in Richie Smith another three-digit car will be making his first appearance. Bob Schmidt and his familiar “333” will be on hand all week at the Dirt Track Heroes show. Schmidt whose career began at age 16, at the Beach Lake race track continues today at age 79 in the Vintage Modifieds. Schmidt raced many tracks such as Honesdale, Moc A Tek, Weedsport, Penn Can, Herb Harvey, Accord, Nazareth, Orange County and even in Canada throughout his racing career. He was the 1975 Sportsman champion at the now defunct Moc A Tek Speedway. During that 1975 season, Schmidt accomplished an amazing feat by winning three 100 lap features in one weekend. This started at Penn Can on Friday, then Moc A Tek Saturday, and capping of the trifecta at Herb Harvey’s on Sunday. In 1976, he switched to Orange County as this was his favorite track growing up as a kid. Schmidt dreamed of winning on the “Hard Clay” and that he did in a memorable season in 1977. He won two of the first three features of the season and was set to contend for the Sportsman title. The native of Greeley, PA wound up with a pair of feature wins, two runner ups and six other top 5 finishes but came up 68 points short of the title. The title was won by a young up and coming star by the name of Brett Hearn.

Today Bob is following the Northeast Vintage traveling series and still competing at a high level. He had to make a few modifications to the car by adding the roof flap to help exit the car easier, but on the track, he is still a force to recon with. In 2017, Bob had a scare at the Accord Speedway, as he got into the loose stuff and hit the wall which sent his car barrel rolling over three times before coming to a rest on its’ hood. He was fine without a scratch on him but more disappointed in himself. Last year during Nostalgia night at Orange County, Schmidt charged from the back to second place, and was closing in on the leader but ran out of laps. With victory lane still in his sites he is energized for the 2019 season in his Precision Engine powered “333”. These are just a few stories of Bob’s career, and he is excited to be a part of the 2019 Dirt Track Heroes Show to see some familiar faces from years past, and share even more stories with the crowd.

GERALD CHAMBERLAIN TO APPEAR AT 12th ANNUAL QUAKER STEAK & LUBE DIRT TRACK HEROES EVENT

The Quaker Steak and Lube Dirt Track Heroes Show will have one of the great racing legends back at the event as "The Everett Express" Gerald Chamberlain has informed the show staff he has made plans for the show. Gerald was already a legend in racing when he first set foot onto the Reading Fairgrounds site in 1968, having captured track titles at the South Penn Speedway in 1964 and 65 with dominating performances in which he captured 18 wins in 22 events to dominate the racing action. Chamberlain captured a Hesston Speedway title in 1965 and added another championship 1967 when he captured the track title at the paved Hershey Stadium. Taking over the seat of the famed Paul Deasey owned 707 "Big Donkey," Chamberlain quickly figured out the fast way around Reading and was able to put the sometimes unpredictable Donkey into victory lane on a steady basis.

Teaming with the potent Joe Bullock Team in 1970, Chamberlain captured 22 wins in 1971 and came back the following season to break his own record with 31 feature tallies. Chamberlain went on to capture 92 wins at Reading. Chamberlain captured two Daniel Boone 200 lap wins and captured the Eastern States 200 in 1976. Chamberlain captured two titles at Flemington the first one 1974 and again in 1976 and captured 31 wins in his tenure at the Square. Chamberlain has been inducted into the DIRT Hall of Fame as well as honors at Bedford, Hagerstown and Winchester and the Reading Fairgrounds. Gerald Chamberlain has been a strong supporter of the Dirt Track Heroes Show and he and his wife Joanne look forward to once again seeing his many friends at the Phillipsburg Mall.

Quaker Steak and Lube Restaurants is the lead sponsor for the Dirt Track Heroes Show. The Quaker Steak and Lube chain annually sell more than 80 million wings per year and "The Lube" is recognized as "The best wings in the USA." The Phillipsburg location has also been dubbed "The Official Restaurant of the Dirt Track Heroes" show. To contact the restaurant, call: 908 454 2900 or check out their website at: www.thelube.com Before or after the show head to Quaker Steak and Lube and get recharged and refueled in a great sports setting.

The Dirt Track Heroes Show is extremely proud and thankful to the great list of associate sponsors assembled for the upcoming show. To our loyal racing fans, we ask that you please support these fine institutions whenever you have the opportunity to do so. These great sponsors are the life support of the show and to do the show without them would be extremely difficult to accomplish.

Sponsors in 2019 include IRCO Community Federal Credit Union, Phillipsburg Easton Honda, Premio Foods, Smith Fabrications/SOM Modifieds, Adams Brothers Used Auto Parts, Hamlin Speedway/S&S Speedways, A.R.M Automotive, R& H Auto Sales, APS Powdercoating, Upstate Auto, JPA Masonry, Gardner’s Auto Service, Speed Tec, Murante Auto Repair, Jeff's Automotive, Smitty’s Collision Center, Carl’s Auto Repair, Dean Auto Sport and Joe’s Garage.

Current and Vintage or restored race cars represent racing's past, present and the future of racing and the past represent what many race fans refer to as the "Golden Era" of auto racing. Either way, the spirit of the event itself takes the great fan base of the event back to a time when they could hop into their family jitney and travel less than a half hour to witness the excitement of a night at the races. While some of the cars in attendance are original works, some of the race cars are replicars, re-created to look much like the racers the legendary drivers drove to glory at one of the many speedways that hosted racing events. Those great cars and the preserved memories gain far more impact when the fans have the opportunity to chat with many of the drivers who will be making special appearances during the week long event.

All historical racing groups including Flemington, Tri State, Dorney Park, Harmony and Nazareth will have their memorabilia on display and their many scrapbooks open for the fans to take another long look at the glory years of racing and possibly find a picture or two they want to purchase as a keepsake from past glory or racing exploits. Dale Snyder Videos and Bob Snyder Photography, MiBest Collectibles, Wayne Stayer and Mocatek are also in place for the show.
