John Romano Memorial Next Up On New Egypt Schedule
NEW EGYPT, NJ - The Sportsman have their night in the spotlight at New Egypt Speedway this coming Saturday night September 5th with the John Romano Memorial paying $840 to win and $84 to start.
The event held in memory of the nine time New Egypt Speedway winner is the one that all the Sportsman competitors have had circled on their calendars all season long.
Romano, who passed away after a brief illness in 2009 did anything and everything that he absolutely could to help a fellow racer, whether it was lend them a motor, help change a flat or even run back to his own house to get parts. You name it; John did it to help them out.
Will Dupree is the defending winner of the event.
Also in action will be the Vahlco Wheels Modifieds, Ice Less LLC Crate Modifieds, Street Stocks and the Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman.
Like we do every year on Labor Day weekend, we will move everything back an hour, Pit Gates will open at 3pm, Grandstands at 4pm, with hot laps hitting the speedway at 5pm and the first green flag flying at 6pm. Adult (16+) admission will be $20, Seniors (65+) will be $18, Teens (12-15) & Military w/ID are $10 with Kids 11 & Under being FREE!.
New Egypt Speedway, which is New Jersey’s premier dirt racing facility, is located on Route 539 just minutes from Six Flags Great Adventure and the New Jersey Turnpike. A racy 7/16-mile D-shaped dirt oval, New Egypt Speedway serves Garden State race fans with some of the best competition in the country. New Egypt’s state-of-the-art facilities feature daylight-quality lighting and excellent sightlines from any seat in the house. The grandstands are fully wheelchair accessible with wide, clear, and well-groomed walkways.

MODIFIEDS HEADLINE WALL STADIUM THIS LABOR DAY WEEKEND SATURDAY (SEPT. 5)
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ The Modified stock cars will take center stage at Wall Stadium Speedway this Saturday night (Sept. 5) as they compete in a 40-lap main event.
Along with the Modified main event. the Sportsman cars, 4 Cylinder Stocks, Legend Cars and the open cockpit Three Quarter Midgets will fill out the card in 25-lap main events. Grandstand seating will open at 4:30 p.m. and qualifying is set for 5:30 p.m. The evening’s main event action will follow around 7:00 p.m. Active military and veterans, with proper identification, will be offered a discount admission of just $10 for this Labor Day weekend event in appreciation for their service to our country.
On the third mile high-banked paved oval “Country Pride Night” competition will see Garden State Classic winner Blake Barney of Jackson, Steven Reed of Jackson, Andrew Krause of Holmdel, Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan, Derek Hopkinson of Toms River and Jackson's Jason Treat, just to name a few, competing in a 40-lap Modified feature race.
Saturday’s schedule will see the competitor pit area open at 1:00 p.m. Regular practice will start at 3:00 p.m., while spectator seating will open at 4:30 p.m. Qualifying for the night’s program starts at 5:30 p.m. and main events will follow at 7:00 p.m.
Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on Saturday evenings through October 10. Special events are also featured in the fall including the three day season ending Turkey Derby on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend.
The speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B. COMPETITION IS THE NAME OF THE GAME AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
“HARD CHARGER CHALLENGE” SET FOR SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5
HOPE MORTGAGE TEAM NIGHT OFFERS BIG WIN MONEY FOR BOTH DIVISIONS SEPT. 12
BECHTELSVILLE, PA SEPT. 1, 2020 . . . Competition is the name of the game in NASCAR stock car racing at Grandview Speedway. With ten nights of racing, counting toward the championships, there has been seven different winners in the T.P.Trailers Modifieds while in the T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman there has been ten different winners.
Just 115 points separate the top three in the Modified standings with 248 points is the spread between first and fifth in the Sportsman. Ten time champion sits on top of the standings in the Modifieds while Doug Manmiller, looking for his first title, is second with 2517 counters. And defending champion Duane Howard holds on to third with 2491 counters. In the Sportsman Brian Hirthler continues to lead the standings with 1977 points. Less than 100 points behind is Brad Arnold with 1868 points followed in third by Ryan Beltz, last Saturday’s winner, with 1807 tallies.
At present just two nights of point racing remain in the 2020 season, shortened by the virus issues.
All interest now turns to Saturday, September 5, when the first “HARD CHARGER CHALLENGE” is presented along with the T.P.Trailers NASCAR Modifieds and T.P.Truck Equipment NASCAR Sportsman, part of the Advance Auto Parts Racing Series featuring speedways across the nation.
The Challenge, created by car owner Joe Fanelli, will have Modified racers not in the top 15 Modified point standings as of August 29, have run in at least 3 races and have never won a Modified race at Grandview, racing in a 22-lap feature race that will reward the winner with a $1,022 check created by Joey Adams plus other awards. Second and third spots will offer cash prizes. Additional awards, which continue to grow, are available to others.
Taking place right after the national anthem the top prize will be a last place starting position in the Modified feature race. However the winner can also choose to run in a qualifying heat race in an effort to improve their starting position.

Once the “Challenge” is complete the championship chase continues with qualifying events for the Modifieds and Sportsman will be presented with the best finishers moving on to the 30-lap feature for Modifieds and 25-lap feature for the Sportsman. Adult admission is $15 while youngsters under 12 are admitted free. Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. with green flag waving for racing at 7:30 p.m.
The chase for the championships is scheduled at present to finish up on Saturday, September 12 with a doubleheader Hope Mortgage Team Night for the T.P.Trailers Modifieds and T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman. Thanks to the folks at Hope the features will pay an extra $1,000 to win in both divisions. That has the Modified feature winner earning $3750 including the big bucks from Hope along with the T.P.Trailers weekly bonus. The Sportsman winner, thanks to Hope Mortgage Team and T.P.Truck Equipment, will earn $1,750. Each division will also have a Cash Dash, Hard Charger and Hard Luck giving racers more chances to earn more money. A great way to close out the championship chase.
The biggest and richest event of the season is set for Saturday, September 19th when the 50th Annual Freedom 76 Modified Classic is presented. Some of the area’s top dirt track Modified talents are expected to enter. And the night before the Freedom 38 is presented for Sportsman racers plus practice sessions for Modified racers taking part in the 76’er. Full details on this exciting weekend will be released in the next few days.
Race teams are reminded that entry blanks for the 50th annual Freedom 76 set for September 19th are available at the track or at www.grandviewspeedway.com. For those planning to camp at the track during the 76’er weekend rules can be found on the website.

Aaron Reutzel outruns Danny Dietrich to become first repeat All Star winner at Bedford Speedway
BEDFORD, Pa. (August 30, 2020) - The first seven visits to Bedford Speedway resulted in seven different winners, but two-time and defending Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 champion, Aaron Reutzel, crossed into the mult-time threshold on Sunday night and claimed a second Bedford Speedway feature win, doing so over Central Pennsylvania rival and recent Series winner, Danny Dietrich. The All Star victory, accompanied by a $5,000 top prize, was Reutzel’s ninth of the 2020 season, well on his way to a third consecutive Series championship with 11 events remaining on the schedule.
“I really can’t say enough about this team. I can’t be more proud of them,” Aaron Reutzel said, driver of the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports, Folkens Brothers Trucking, Fischer Body Shop, Hollywood Blasting and Coating, Precision Catalyst, No. 87 sprint car. “To come back after everything that’s happened, and to win like we did, I couldn’t be more proud of everyone involved. We are really proud of this one tonight.”
Despite starting from the pole position, Reutzel did not lead from start to finish. In fact, the Clute, Texas-native lost the initial battle for the top spot, allowing Dietrich, who started from the outside-pole position, to drive away and lead the first two circuits. A caution on lap three would act as Reutzel’s saving grace, giving the championship hopeful a second chance at controlling the field.
Reutzel’s ensuing restart went off without a hitch, nearly tied to the back bumper of the Gary Kauffman Racing entry as the lead duo raced by the single-file restart cone. Keeping that momentum handy, Reutzel immediately dove to the bottom of turn one and slid across the nose of Dietrich, officially capturing the lead at the exit of turn two.
Although finding a few opportunities to catch Reutzel in traffic, Danny Dietrich would have to settle for second, followed by Paul McMahan, Brent Marks and Cory Eliason.
“I knew I wanted to be right on his back bumper when we came down for the restart. The smart thing for (Dietrich) to do would have been to slide himself, but he left the door open for me and I was able to go in there and slide him,” Reutzel continued. “I knew that restart was going to mean everything because clean air was so important here tonight. Regardless, we had a phenomenal race car. I just couldn’t be more proud.”

The Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 will hit the road and revisit the home of “Ohio’s Finest Racing” during Labor Day weekend, setting-up shop at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, on Friday and Saturday, September 4-5. The two-day Attica Ambush will award a total winner’s share equaling $15,000; $5,000 on Friday and $10,000 on Saturday. About the All Star Circuit of Champions:
All Star Enterprises, LLC, wholly owned by Tony Stewart, d/b/a the All Star Circuit of Champions, is a winged sprint car series. The All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series is one of the oldest traveling 410 sprint car organizations and is a staple of grassroots, open-wheel racing. Formed in 1970 by Bud Miller, the series has largely been considered the first 'outlaw' Sprint Car organization of the modern era. Motorsports entrepreneur Tony Stewart agreed to terms with Guy Webb to become the sole owner of the original winged sprint car tour in January of 2015.

'GOOD TO BE BACK': Brad Sweet Returns To Victory Lane At I-80 Speedway
The reigning champion is now tied with Logan Schuchart for the championship points lead
GREENWOOD, NE — Aug. 30, 2020 — With half of a lap to go before Brad Sweet could see the checkered flag at I-80 Speedway Sunday night, yellow lights flashed around the track.
An accident between two cars racing for 18th evaporated the reigning champion’s 3.8 second lead over Carson Macedo and induced flashbacks of horror.
The night prior he lost the win on the last corner of the last lap.
“I couldn’t believe, take the white flag and the caution comes out,” Sweet said. “I thought, ‘Well, maybe it’s not meant to be.’”
It had been 57 days since his seventh win of the season at Cedar Lake Speedway in early July. Since then, he’s endured multiple nights of bad luck – suffering four DNFs – and heartbreak from wins that never were.
A green-white-checkered finished extended his anxiety an extra lap, making the Feature 31 laps in total.
He didn’t let that faze him, though. When the green flag reappeared for the final time of the night, Sweet mastered his throttle better than the field behind him and launched to about a four-car-length lead ahead of Macedo. From then on, he only extended it, giving no one the opportunity for a last lap pass. He crossed the finish line with a 1.5 second lead to claim his eighth win of 2020, his first at I-80 and 58th career Series win.
“It’s been some trying times,” said Sweet, of Grass Valley, CA. “This NAPA Auto Parts team never gives up. We’ve gone through DNFs and race cars and wild crashes. You know, things that we’re not accustom to. But that’s the adversity of the World of Outlaws tour. Never giving up and trying to stay positive each and every night. We lost a heartbreaker last night, so it is really easy to get down and get frustrated. But come back here and get the car better and better all night.”
The Kasey Kahne Racing team unloaded a dominate car for Sweet Saturday night, but on Sunday at I-80 they had to work toward that. He started the night with a 12th place qualifying effort and was able to translate that into a second place run in his Drydene Heat Race. Sweet managed to find the runner-up spot, again, in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash, however Dash winner Jacob Allen showed he had a car capable of delivering him his first career win.
That thought continued in the first 12 laps of the Feature with Allen able to fend off attacks from Sweet and Macedo.
After a restart with 18 laps to go, Sweet’s car came to life. He dove under Allen into Turn 3 and took the lead from him off Turn 4 to officially lead Lap 13. However, Allen got a run back underneath the NAPA Auto Parts #49 car and bolted back ahead of him into Turn 1.
Allen was unable to hold his car straight off the corner, allowing Sweet another run back underneath him. The two performed a ballet of slide jobs through Turns 3 and 4 with Sweet first sliding in front of Allen on the entrance of the corner to take the top lane and Allen throwing his car down into the corner before sliding back in front of Sweet on the exit of Turn 4.
Sweet cut back underneath Allen down the straightaway and rocketed ahead of him into Turn 1 to claim the lead and run away with it. Allen was then left to fend off his teammate Logan Schuchart, who had made his way from 14th to third, and Macedo in fourth.
As the laps clicked off, Allen eventually faded to sixth while Macedo fought his way back to second and Schuchart, in third, had his hands full with Sheldon Haudenschild – who worked his way up through the field from 18th.
Sweet found traffic late into the Feature and experienced little hinderance from them. Macedo cut a few tenths of a second off Sweet’s lead in the closing laps but had nothing for his fellow Californian once Sweet found clean air. The defending champion was on his way to a near four second victory.
Then, the caution came out. His apparent victory went on hold. Macedo had one last chance to get his second win of the year. However, Sweet had enough of heartbreak. He perfected the restart, picked up the $10,000 check and trophy and left Macedo to wonder, “what if.”
“I feel bad,” said Macedo, of Lemoore, CA. “My guys did a really good job. I felt like I had a car good enough to win there. I really made poor decisions on restarts I felt like… I felt like I was gaining on Brad a little bit and got into the fence over there in (Turns) three and four. I was driving super hard to try and get back by him. That’s the way it goes. He did a great job. That’s why he’s a World of Outlaws champion and I had a lot of fun racing with him.”
Schuchart was able to hold off Haudenschild – who earned the KSE Racing Hard Charger Award for coming from 18th to fourth – and finish third for the second night in a row, after having to change a motor before his Drydene Heat Race. He’s now tied with Sweet for the championship points lead.
“We had a fast race car, just some issues early in the night we had to fight through and keep on pushing,” said Schuchart, of Hanover, PA. “This is what it all come down to. You’re going to have bad nights. You’re going to face adversity and get back up there. That’s what this Drydene Performance Products race team did.”

SMACKDOWN IX IS ALL SUNSHINE FOR A 3RD TIME

Kokomo, Indiana (August 29, 2020)………Snakebitten is a word that has been used to describe Tyler Courtney’s misfortunes at Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway throughout the 2020 season. It’s almost hard to imagine that fact for a driver who has become synonymous with victory lane at the track in recent years.
Courtney rediscovered the fountain of success once again Saturday night in the Sprint Car Smackdown IX finale at Kokomo, a track in which he had won at six times in his USAC National career between sprint cars and midgets, and an event in which he had hoisted the coveted champion’s belt at twice before in 2017 and 2019.
The Indianapolis, Ind. native tracked down Brady Bacon 13 laps from the conclusion to score his 28th career USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car feature victory, equaling the total of fellow series champions Levi Jones and J.J. Yeley for 15th all-time, in his efforts worth $11,000 aboard his Clauson-Marshall-Newman Racing/NOS Turbo - CSI - ZMax - Schoenfeld/Spike/Rider Chevy.
In the process, Courtney became the second driver ever to win Smackdown three times in his career, joining the series’, and Kokomo’s, winningest sprint car driver, Dave Darland, who won three-straight in 2013-14-15.
“Dave’s a guy I grew up watching and I watched him win all three of his Smackdowns,” Courtney recalled. “To tie a guy like that here at his home track, it’s just unreal. I never would’ve thought that, when I started racing sprint cars, or started racing Smackdown nine years ago, that I’d even win one of these things, let alone three. To tie a guy like Dave Darland is something that will probably take a while to sink in.”
Back to the snakebitteness, however, the two-time USAC National champion had encountered trouble three separate times while leading or running second at the track in USAC competition this year. During Indiana Midget Week, he flipped while leading two-thirds of the way through. During Indiana Sprint Week, he clipped a turn two infield tire while leading, sending him spinning and stopping just three laps from the finish. In Thursday’s Smackdown opener, while running second, contact with a lapped car flattened Courtney’s tire, putting him out of contention for victory once again.
“I told my guys I’ll take a little bit of bad luck from the last three races if it meant I could win this one,” Courtney said. “This is one you put on the calendar, especially when we were putting our schedule together this year with us not running full-time. We had a gameplan coming into tonight and stuck to it and it worked out. We got a technical racetrack and it almost bit me a little bit, but somehow, I made it through a couple of those situations, and it worked out.”
Courtney started sixth on the grid for the 40-lap feature, and for much of the first half of the race, remained relatively stagnant, holding the fifth position nearing the midway point. Up front, however, the night’s B & W Auto Mart “King of the Hill” winner and pole sitter, Brady Bacon, was in control of the 23-car field as C.J. Leary and Kyle Cummins gave chase in second and third, respectively.
The first of two reds during the feature was displayed on the ninth lap when 19th running Carson Short rode out a flip down the front straightaway from which he walked away unscathed.
Under the ensuing stoppage, 12th running Justin Grant’s misfortune continued when his car didn’t re-fire following the red, ending his night prematurely with a 21st place finish.
When racing resumed, Cummins, who was aiming to become the first driver to win four USAC Sprint races in a row since Rick Hood in 1985, made his way to 2nd past Leary while race Rookie Buddy Kofoid, in just his 3rd career series start, flexed his muscle to take 3rd as Leary got shuffled back to 4th.
The second and final red flag period of the feature arrived on lap 15 when 14th running Clinton Boyles barrel rolled near the outside wall in turn four. The incident also collected the 15th place car of Jake Swanson who spun and stopped in the melee. Both were uninjured, but both were finished for the remainder of the evening.
On the race’s resumption on the 15th lap, Cummins showed Bacon a nose below in turn two, then did so again on the 16th lap. However, quickly shooting into the frame was Courtney, who had exploded from 5th to 3rd on the restart, then was just within arm’s reach of both Cummins in 2nd and Bacon, the race leader, as the top-three ran nose-to-tail on the topside on lap 17.
“We were getting close to halfway there and I knew I needed to start making my moves and not let Brady (Bacon) get too far out because his car was pretty good and Cummins was running 2nd, and obviously, he’s been good the first two nights,” Courtney explained. “I wanted to get by those guys and be able to run my own race. I could tell when I was running behind them that I was a lot better, so I knew if I could just get out and make some clean laps, I’d probably be all right.”
Courtney’s next move came on the 21st lap when he slid past Cummins for second in turn four, gliding from the bottom of turn three all the way up to the outside concrete at the exit of turn four to complete the pass, then, in no time, was challenging Bacon for the race lead.
Courtney hounded Bacon, the two-time USAC National Sprint Car champ, for the next several circuits, seemingly stalking his prey as he readied himself to pounce on any inkling of a misstep. That came on the 28th circuit when Bacon snagged his right rear tire on the lip exiting turn two, knocking him slightly askew as Courtney shot under to snag the lead going away. A reeling Bacon slipped back to 2nd, 3rd and 4th over the next three laps as Cummins, then a resurging Leary, slotted back into the top-three.
“Brady messed up a little bit off two, and I got by him closely, but we got by clean,” Courtney remembered. “I just put the hammer down and tried to put a gap between us because I knew my car was better.”
Courtney quickly gapped his challengers with a 3.6 sec. advantage as he worked traffic around the quarter mile with the race dwindling down to the final four laps.
With the race, and victory, seemingly in hand, Courtney had a couple “moments” down the stretch while possessing a fairly substantial gap between he and Cummins. None bigger than the one he experienced in turn one coming to the white flag as he got some airtime after hitting the cushion, and nearly knocked down the wall and dumped the No. 7BC, before gathering it up and motoring on, albeit while his heart was in the process of skipping a beat.
“That was wild,” Courtney exclaimed. “I got in, biked and got tight up on the wall and thought, ‘Oh my god, you’re really going to throw it away with three laps to go. Come on.’ Luckily, I got down off that and made a couple clean laps at the end. I love Kokomo. I love Smackdown. It was a really, really cool night.”
That “really, really cool night” concluded with Courtney taking a 3.699 sec. margin of victory in the end over Cummins, Leary, Bacon and Kofoid. For Courtney, it was his seventh career USAC National victory at Kokomo, and his five career USAC National Sprint Car feature wins at the track have him third on the all-time list, trailing only the two greatest masters in Kokomo Speedway history, Dave Darland (9) and Tony Elliott (8).
Earlier in the evening, Bacon became the first three-time B & W Auto Mart King of the Hill champion in a series of two-car, three-lap elimination races to determine the starting field. Bacon (Broken Arrow, Okla.) defeated Leary in the final round to win the pole, after previously doing so in both 2014-15.
Meanwhile, a big shuffle in the points saw Grant fall from first to third while Bacon shot from third to first. In fact, the top-four in the standings are only separated by a mere 18 points with Bacon leading Chris Windom (-4), Grant (-7) and Chase Stockon (-18).
