ATTICA, Ohio – Cap Henry has picked right up where he left off the past two seasons – winning races in Ohio. The Republic, Ohio driver scored his second win of the season Friday, June 26 at Attica Raceway Park, leading all 30 laps of the 410 sprint feature on Burns Electric, Edward Jones of Clyde, Smith Paving Night presented by Integrity Auto and Truck Sales.
Henry, driver of the Lane Racing machine carrying sponsorship from Dragons Milk White, New Holland Spirits, Beer Barrel Bourbon, FK Rod Ends, Wings Unlimited, Kistler Engines, J&J Racing, Linder Shocks, Simpson, Ballistic Designs, Lead Head Water Fowl, Geck Electric and Nemesis Designs, has won three races in the past three weeks, including one at Wayne County Speedway. It was Henry’s 7th career win at Attica.
The victory kicked off the All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products Attica Fremont Championship 410 Series Presented by the Baumann Auto Group and was worth $4,000 thanks to Spanky’s Pizza of Carey.
“This just shows how good the Lane guys have this thing…Zack (Meyers) has this thing real fast and that puts a lot of pressure on me to do the right things,” said Henry.
“We aren’t sure if we are going to follow the AFCS. We have a couple of things going on with Dragon’s Milk and Beer Barrel Bourbon…we have some stuff we have to commit to them so we will see what happens,” added Henry.
Mansfield, Ohio’s Matt Irey, Attica’s 2016 track champion, has been knocking on the door of victory lane all season, recording a pair of runner-up finishes and a third. It all came together Friday as he led all 25 laps for his fourth career Attica victory. The win kicked off the Attica-Oakshade Raceway Late Model Series Challenge for 2020 as well.
“We’ve been fast all year. Last year we brought a back-up car out and won. This is a brand new car again and I can’t beat it. The driver gave one up two weeks ago and I knew I couldn’t give another one up. I want to thank all my guys…Chris, my dad, my mom, my fiancée, Dustin, my fiancée's uncle Doug…we’ve busted our butts and we got something for them this season,” said Irey beside his Mid-Ohio Graphics, Rod Eddleblute’s Garage, Robin Jakubick Realtor, Artisan Concrete, Flenner Water Well & Excavating, Kilgore & Harring CPA backed #36.
Three time Attica 305 sprint champion Paul Weaver took the lead on lap 17 and drove to his second straight win and 51st of his career at the track. Coupled with a win last Saturday at Fremont Speedway, Weaver has won three features in a row.
Weaver’s win makes him a top contender for the NAPA of Bryan AFCS 305 Sprint Series Presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales title. The victory was worth $1,000 thanks to Gressman Powersports.
“You never want to see Jamie Miller coming. The bottom was pretty good. I don’t run bleeders and I was worried about building up too much air and that yellow helped me cool the tires down and run the middle,” said Weaver beside his B&B Drain Services, M&L Excavating, Hampshire Racing Engines, Seagate Sandblasting backed machine. “I want to thank Pam and Steve Brown and if it weren’t for Dave Rice and Bob Hampshire I wouldn’t even been here.”
Henry and Caleb Griffith brought the field to green for the Callie’s Performance Products 410 Sprint feature but Chris Andrews took a tumble necessitating a restart. When the green flew again so did Henry, pulling away from the field while Griffith battled with Nate Dussel with Brock Martin, Craig Mintz, Max Stambaugh, Cale Conley and Chad Kemenah giving chase.
A caution on lap four wiped out a big lead for Henry but once again on the restart he was able to pull away with Griffith and Dussel comfortably rounding out the top three while Martin, Conley and Mintz battled for fourth.
Shawn Dancer flipped on lap nine (he was uninjured) again wiping out a big lead for Henry. The car on the move was Tyler Gunn, charging from 18th to eighth. When the race resumed Henry pulled away from Griffith but when the leaders encountered lapped traffic with just 10 laps to go, Griffith started to close with Dussel, Conley, Mintz and Kemenah in pursuit.
Henry split two lapped cars on lap 23 and drove away to the victory over Griffith, Mintz, Dussel and Conley.
Larry Bellman and Mike Bores brought the field to green for the 25 lap Propane.com/Dirt Nerds Podcast Late Model A-main but fourth starter Irey immediately served notice he was the car to beat, driving into the lead. A multi-car crash on lap two bunched the field up with Bellman, Rusty Schlenk, Bores, Jon Henry and last week’s winner Matt Miller right on Irey’s tail.
Irey was able to pull away while Schlenk moved into second and after a tremendous battle between Henry, Bellman, Bores, Devin Shiels and Miller, Miller was able to finally wrestle the third spot on lap 11. Lapped traffic came into play with 11 laps to go but Irey did not make a mistake and in fact made a brilliant move splitting two lapped cars on lap 18.
Irey drove to the win over Schlenk, Miller, Henry and Shiels.
The front row of the Fremont Fence 305 Sprint feature saw Shawn Valenti and Kody Brewer race to the green with Valenti taking the lead over fourth starter Steve Rando, Brewer, Kyle Peters and Weaver. Rando charged into the lead on lap two and was pulling away before a rash of cautions.
When the green flew again, Weaver jumped from fourth to second with Valenti battling Brewer, Seth Schneider and Brandon Moore for third. At the half-way point Weaver was closing the gap on Rando and by lap 17 drove under him for the lead. Jamie Miller was now on the move from his 12th starting spot and racing up to third with Schneider and 18th starter Matt Foos giving chase.
A caution with three laps to go gave Rando and Miller another shot at Weaver. Miller took second on the restart but could not catch Weaver who drove to the win. Miller, Rando, Foos and Schneider rounded out the top five.
Attica Raceway Park will kick off Ohio Sprint Speedweek with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions on Friday, July 3 on Baumann Auto Group, Ohio Laborers, Ohio Cat Night. The late models will also be in action. There is a $1,000 bonus for any driver in the top 20 in Attica’s points to defeat the All Stars and win the feature.

ROUND ONE KNOCKOUT: Brad Sweet wins first round of AGCO Jackson Nationals
Kasey Kahne Racing gets early win, but Logan Schuchart takes Jackson Nationals points lead
JACKSON, MN – June 26, 2020 – After losing a win by inches last week, reigning champion Brad Sweet dominates the first of two Features Friday night for the 42 Annual AGCO Jackson Nationals.
Sweet, the two-time and defending AGCO Jackson Nationals champion, won his fourth World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series Feature at the 4/10-mile Jackson Motorplex before having to turn around and run another Feature later in the night.
“We were slow in qualifying and had to make up for it," said Sweet, of Grass Valley CA. "Luckily we got the win."
Thursday night’s program was halted by rain and pushed to Friday evening before the official second night of the AGCO Jackson Nationals kicked off.
Sweet had made his way into the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash with a second-place run in his Drydene Heat Race. He then went on to secure another runner-up finish behind winner Austin McCarl in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash – placing him on the outside pole for the 25-lap Feature.
When Feature went green, after a red flag on the initial start for Mark Dobmeier flipping in Turn 2, Sweet snuck to the outside of Austin McCarl and drove around him in Turns 3 and 4 to claim the lead on the first lap. From then on, it was “The Big Cat’s” show.
Sweet pulled away to about a straightaway lead over McCarl by the second lap of the race. He hit lap traffic on Lap 6, but the slower cars didn’t faze him. While McCarl was able to knock off a tenth of a second here and there when lap cars blocked the track in front of Sweet, the NAPA Auto Parts #49 gained those tenths back and more once he found clean air.
"I've felt comfortable here," said Sweet, who's won the last three 410 Sprint Car events at the track. "We have a good package here. Hats of to my guys."
Shane Stewart had an impressive run going in his Feature debut in Guy Forbrook’s #5 car, running third for most of the race. But on Lap 13 he had an issue and had to pull off track. It was a big enough issue to end his entire night. That moved Matt Juhl, who won at Jackson Motorplex in a 360-c.i. Sprint Car the week before, into third.
Neither Juhl or McCarl had anything for Sweet in the closing laps. He pulled his Kasey Kasey Racing car into Victory Lane for the fifth time this year with the World of Outlaws.
"Hopefully we can have a good night overall and it will put us in a good spot on Saturday (for the Jackson Nationals championship $30,000-to-win finale)," Sweet said.
McCarl finished second and Juhl rounded out the podium – career best World of Outlaws runs for the two drivers.
"He (Sweet) got a good run there on the top and got by me," McCarl said. "That's why he's a World of Outlaws champion. One of the best in the world right now."
While Sweet takes home the trophy, Logan Schuchart has the early points lead for the Jackson Nationals with his fourth-place finish in the Feature and other strong performances throughout the format, such as his runner-up qualifying run. Parker Price-Miller is second and Sheldon Haudenschild is third. Sweet is currently 12th in points. He qualified 25th in round one, which put him behind in points.

Sam Hafertepe, Jr. Captures Lucas Oil ASCS Victory At Caney Valley Speedway
Bryan Hulbert – CANEY, Kan. (June 25, 2020) Getting back to Victory Lane in a hurry with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. rallied from seventh to lead the final six laps of Thursday's SawBlade.com A-Feature at Caney Valley Speedway.

Winner Sam Hafertepe Jr (Lonnie Wheatley Photo)
Coming off a rough couple weeks, the win was a much-needed morale boost for the entire team, "My guys worked so hard to get us here, and after getting our ass kicked during the All-Star Speedweek, and Haubstadt last week, we really needed this. For our whole team, for me, it started to feel like we couldn't do this anymore, and you starting thinking if you need to quit, but no one on this team did, and it really showed tonight."
Sam's 49th career victory with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network; the Thursday showdown was the first race back for the National Tour since the world was turned on its head by COVID-19.
Giving chase while Scott Bogucki and Jordon Mallett battled furiously for the lead the first half of the A-Feature, with the pair trading the top spot for a moment on Lap 9, the Heidbreder Foundation/Hills Racing No. 15h advanced to the runner-up position on Lap 15 after Mallett had to hammer the brakes off the second turn when the field came back to green a lap prior.
Moving around the quarter-mile oval, Hafertepe tried nearly every line around the Caney Valley Speedway. Committed to the top of three and four, the opposite end of the Speedway saw varying lines with Sam finally getting the run off the fourth turn as the field clicked off Lap 25.
"It wasn't about one and two so much as it was about turns three and four," stated Sam of his varying lines around the Kansas oval. "The cushion got so far up there, and when it gets like that and gets fluffy, you don't know how much grip is really up there, but I said the hell with it. We didn't come here to run second."
Able to steadily pull away from there, traffic over the final two revolutions was not enough to slow the No. 15h. Scott Bogucki held on for silver, despite losing brakes throughout the final 10-laps trying to keep the car loaded around the bottom groove. Roger Crockett crossed third with Jordon Mallett holding on for fourth. Advancing from eighth, Sean McClelland crossed fifth.
2020 Brodix Rookie of the Year contender, Garet Williamson, was sixth with California's Justin Sanders putting a show from 18th after missing the scales after his Heat Races relegated him to racing through the second BMRS B-Feature. Battling near the front early on, South Dakota's Eric Lutz ended up eighth with Blake Hahn going 23rd to ninth after taking a provisional. Canada's Dylan Westbrook clawed his way to 10th after starting 21st.
Drawing a field if 36 drivers from 10 states and three countries, the Mo-State Construction Clash at Caney Valley Speedway presented by Terry Mattox Promotions saw four SCE Gasket Heat Race wins going to Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Matt Covington, Brandon Anderson, and Scott Bogucki. Heat Race winners also got an extra $50 for Schure Built Suspension. BMRS B-Features were topped by Kyle Clark and Justin Sanders. Three Provisionals were used. Alex Hills and Blake Hahn were based on Lucas Oil ASCS Owner Points, and Avery Goodman was giving an ASCS Sooner Region Provisional.
The next event for the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network will be Saturday, June 27, at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. Opening at 5:00 P.M., the action at I-30 Speedway is slated to begin at 7:30 P.M. (CT) and includes IMCA Modifieds, Dixon Road U-Pull-It Factory Stocks, NOW600 Micros, and, Mod-Lites. The event is co-sanctioned with the ASCS Mid-South Region. Admission is $20 for adults with Kids 12 and under free thanks to Camron's Upholstery.
I-30 Speedway is located on the I-30 Frontage Road, eastbound at Exit 126. More information on the Speedway can be found at www.i-30speedway.com or by calling (501) 455-4567.

HAMLIN SPEEDWAY IS SPECTACULAR FROM THE WORD GO!

Hamlin, PA -Hamlin Speedway Is Spectacular From the Word Go!
By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
Hamlin Speedway Promoters Randy and Denise Smith welcomed in an energetic and overwhelming group of racers on Saturday evening as they hosted an evening of events for the 2020 racing season at Hamlin Speedway. The racing was top notch all of the way in all divisions and what will be a trademark event for a great season at the speedway. The Hamlin driving stars used all channels of the 1/5th mile clay cushioned attraction to keep everyone on their feet throughout the evening of speed. There was a great field of entries assembled in the Pocono Mountains to place their marks on the "Pearl of the Poconos" racing facility. The high flying racing action was sponsored by the good folks at X-Cel Modified Tour Boy/Girl Scout Night on a night where speed, showmanship and even a display from Mother Nature and the pandemic is OVER! The Smith Family didn't let the fans down with a track that was racy from the start and the drivers didn't take their feet off the gas all night long.
The Saturday night action found two rained out feature from the previous week to kick off the racing action. "The Jeffah" Jeff Hineline captured the rained out event while Tony Parlanti captured the Rookie 600 event from the pole. Aidan Donaldson put on a show stopping performance as he led all of the 20-lap feature in the Amantea Real Estate Junior Slingshot feature headliner. "The Ambassador" Wes Hearn was State of the Union all of the way as he captured the the regular Super Slinger feature. The JPA Masonry Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint finale went to Tony Parlanti, who bagged a duece for his night of fun. "The Electric Man" Colin White, a former champion in the division at Hamlin, as he held off another former champion at the speedway in "Bad" Chad Sandt to put the finishing touches on the great run to capture the JPA Masonry Wingless Sprint feature. Scott Neary in the S&S sponsored hot rod, captured the All Star Slingshot event with a great run to the checkered flag. "The Jeffah" Jeff Hineline put on a show as he captured his second feature event for the after holding off the returning "Hot Rod" Kyle Rode in the Jimbo's Gutters Stage One Modified headliner. Travis Fichter was top notch as he led all of the X-Cel Modifeds from the start until the checkered flag fell from Russ Furry.
The rained out events from the previous week were great affairs as it set the stage for what was to occur throughout the evening. Tony Parlanti wasted no time as he jumped into the lead at the start of the feature event and punctuated the event with a no-mistakes run to the checkered flag. In the Jimbo's Gutters Stage One Modfied event Jeff Hineline was on his game as he captured the win
The showcased event for the X-Cel Modifieds found Travis Fichter setting the stage for the event as he led from his pole position start. The feature event went non-stop with Fichter winning the event. Brian Blankenmiller was the runner-up with Hunter Diehl third, Brandon Graner fourth and Tim Bauer closing out the top five. Ty Hoke, Thomas Prychka, Keith VanValkenburg, Olivia Schmeltzer and Shawn Schibilia rounded out the top ten finishers.
In the All Star Slingshot feature, Scott Neary wasted no time as he grabbed the lead at the start of the 20-lap main and in a matter of a few laps you could color him gone as he raced away from the field in the S&S Speedways hot rod. The battle for runner-up honors was a dandy as Wes Hearn held on to the runner-up slot over Taylor Mills. Former Junior Slingshot champion Shelby McLaughlin was fourth with the returning Kyle Herve fifth. Dale Kober, Ashley Kober, Rookie racer Doug Smith, James Benz and Isabella VanOrden rounded out the top ten.
The Jimbo's Gutters Stage One Modified headliner found Jeff Hineline jumping out front early but getting stiff pressure from Kyle Rode. The pair ran first/second until the checkered flag fell with Hineline capturing his second win of the evening Rode was second in a great return to racing action while Mike Samony was third with newcomer Mark Mohr fourth and newcomer Kasey Hufcut in for a top five. Joel Smith was sixth with Joel Price in seventh and newcomer Matt Mertz eighth while John Bachetti and Lawson Szerencitis finished out the top ten.
The Super Slingshot feature event found Wes Hearn unleashing the power on his hot rod and raced away from the field with impressive laps in his number two race car. "Magic Shoes" Mike McLaughlin was the runner-up with Dale Kober in third place and Jim Conroy, Roger Collins and Jeremy Hoffman completing the field.
Aidan Donaldson and Joshua Allen brought the field down for the start of the Amantea Real Estate Junior Slingshot event and it would be Donaldson with the heavier foot. Allen remained in second place but it would be the crowd watching the 75X of James Hendricks as he drove through the field. The "Stars of Tomorrow" really put on a show with nineteen of the hopefuls going to the post for the feature attraction. Donaldson remained in front throughout the event with Paulie Hartwig in for runner-up honors. RJ Sherman was third with Hendricks ending up fourth and Joshua Allen finishing up fifth. Charlene Benz headed up the next five followed by Kylie Hendricks, Dillon Beadle, Cole Perez, and Chase Zimmer.
The JPA Masonry Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint encounter found Tony Parlanti leading the way at the start of the event over Dennis "The Menace" Stawinsky. The pair duked it over the twenty laps with Parlanti showing a big smile in victory lane. "The Whiz Kid" Jack Hanna was third with Dennis Chamberlain fourth and Aidan Donaldson fifth in a new division for him. Cody Powell was solid in sixth place while newcomer Zac Frantz, veteran Carmen Leggio Sr, another newcomer Neal Allison and Jason Garcia rounded out the top ten
Colin White took the lead at the start of the JPA Masonry 600 Sprint event and he would lead throughout with Chad Sandt matching each one of his moves to remain in the runner-up slot. Later laps would have Zac Bealer on the attack racing with Tyler Lindsay. Jack Hanna took a big step to race with the regulars in this one and proved he can handle the traffic with a top five finish. Joel Smith headed up the second five followed by Zack Weisenfluh, a champion last year in the rookies. Newcomer Conner Gross put on an excellent performance with an eight place finish and Connecticut's Kyle Ferrucci was ninth and Michael Nolf took a big step as he changed divisions and ran to a top ten.
PEARL JAMS:
Kudos to Randy Smith for an excellent track surface that once again found Mother Nature making him work extra hard at providing a solid track for the competition. The drivers responded by utilizing the many racing channels throughout the evening of competition. Additional time was taken to keep the track surface smooth and tacky throughout the evening of speed.
Heat races were scrapped this evening as time restraints found the excellent Hamlin staff going to plan B with time trials in order to speed up the time elements. The Junior Slingshots found Paulie Hartwig with a quick machine at 15.562 seconds over Aidan Donaldson, RJ Sherman and Brock Pinkerous. JPA Masonry Rookie Wingless 600 Sprint times found Tony Parlanti just eking out the top spot over Dennis Stawinsky and the surprising "Whiz Kid" Jack Hanna. Jeff Hineline was top time in the Stage One Modfieds over Kyle Rode and Michael Samony. Travis Fichter was the top time in the X-Cel Modifieds. Wes Hearn was the top time in the Supers while Colin White was the number one clock stopper in the Wingless 600 Sprints whole Kasey Hufcut was spot on in the All Star Slingshots.
Lots of new faces and cars for the new season ahead at Hamlin. New Speedway Announcer Bobby Stull apologized to the crowd early on letting everyone know he wasn't going to get all of the names correct on this evening of racing activity. Bobby replaces longtime speedway Announcer Steve Pados who by doctor's orders was forced to step away from his post.
On behalf of the Smith Family and Staff, thank you all for being part of our Hamlin racing community.

Anthony Macri outruns field in Port Royal’s Keith Kauffman Classic for first-ever All Star victory
PORT ROYAL, Pa. (June 24, 2020) - For the first time in his young career, Dillsburg, Pennsylvania’s Anthony Macri is an Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 main event winner, doing so, in unbelievable form, during Port Royal Speedway’s annual Keith Kauffman Classic on Wednesday, June 24. The victory, earning Macri $6,000 in the process, was accomplished in flawless fashion, eventually outrunning the entire field, including a late-charging Kyle Larson, by just under four seconds.
Macri started from the pole position and led every circuit of the 30-lap main event, navigating through waves of intense traffic with ease, and in certain periods, separated himself from the field by upwards of four lapped cars.
“I don’t even know what to say,” Anthony Macri said in victory lane, driver of the Macri Concrete/J&S Fabrication/No. 39M sprint car. “We threw some stuff at (the car) for the dash and we weren’t even sure it was going to work, but clearly it showed that it worked in the dash. So all we did was add some fuel and let her eat in the feature.”
Although imposing no threat on Macri, Kyle Larson, Danny Dietrich, Aaron Reutzel, Brent Marks, and Brock Zearfoss all battled within the top-five over the course of the Keith Kauffman contest, swapping positions on several occasions. It was not until a caution on lap 22, brought out for a slowing Zearfoss, that allowed a few of the teams to find their true finishing potential. In fact, the ensuing restart propelled Larson from fourth to second, banging the boards on the top edge of the speedway to drive around Dietrich and Reutzel on laps 24 and 25, respectively.
A final lap maneuver by Dietrich to get around Reutzel allowed the Gettysburg-native to claim third at the line, followed by Reutzel and Brent Marks.
The All Star triumph included, Macri has now won three-in-a-row at the Port Royal ‘Speed Palace.’
“My team has given me a great car over the last few weeks. I could put the car wherever I wanted,” Macri continued, who earned his pole position by way of dash victory; he started fifth. “I know the fast lane is normally the top of turns one and two, and it normally cleans off in turns three and four on the bottom. After about 15 laps, I pretty much killed my tires. I was actually on defensive mode for a little while just hoping they weren’t going to blow by me. I was trying to push hard through traffic, but I was happy to see the yellows just so I could have some clean air. I knew I could drive the car as hard as I could.
“The month we spent out on the road this year really changed me as a driver. I came back here and I’m ready to win.”
What’s Next:
Diving deep into the heart of Dixie, the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 will continue their 2020 championship campaign with a doubleheader on the highbanks of Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee, on Saturday and Sunday, June 27-28. Dubbed the Food City presents the Tennessee Sprint Car Nationals, the Bulls Gap invasion will feature back-to-back $5,000-to-win main events, also awarding points toward the season-ending championship purse.
Although the Tennessee Sprint Car Nationals visit will be a first during Tony Stewart’s tenure as owner of the All Stars, it is certainly not the first stop in Series history, most recently invading the northern Tennessee facility on March 19-20, 2010, with Joey Saldana and Jason Meyers each earning feature wins.

THORSON MOTORS TO PHOTO FINISH VICTORY AT KOKOMO; LARSON WINS INDIANA MIDGET WEEK TITLE
By: Richie Murray - USAC Media
Kokomo, Indiana (June 21, 2020).........Two nights, two blown engines. Those were the cards Tanner Thorson and his Hayward Motorsports team were dealt in the two races leading up to Sunday's Indiana Midget Week finale at Kokomo Speedway.
Out of powerplants and out of options, the team received a lifeline in the 11th hour from none other than a fellow competitor. A middle-of-the-night scramble ensued, and a borrowed Toyota engine was installed under the OilFire - FK - Walker Filtration - Smith Titanium/Spike 4-Coil car.
Despite the lack of sleep, the thrashing and the unknowns that were unloaded from their trailer Sunday night, Thorson still believed that all signs pointed to victory.
"For some reason, I felt like it was going to be the day to win. I don't know why," Thorson admitted. "I went to bed about 4:30 or 5 this morning and got back up at 8. Dave McIntosh, Cannon Mcintosh's father, is the reason why were able to race tonight - he and Cody Cordell, who takes care of all of Cannon's personal equipment. I can't thank them enough for allowing us to borrow a motor and be able to race."
Thorson (Minden, Nev.) and Team Hayward defied all the odds that were stacked against them to claim their third USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget victory of the season with a slip underneath on a late-race restart with three laps remaining, then outlasting 2020 Indiana Midget Week champion Kyle Larson to beat him to the line in a photo finish by half a car length - 0.065 of a second.
Thorson's 16th career USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget feature victory moved him into the top-40 all-time alongside Rico Abreu, George Amick, Billy Cantrell, Lee Kunzman, Bobby Olivero and Henry Pens.
Thorson started seventh in the 22-car field for the 30-lap feature event, but instead of a instantaneous charge, Thorson dropped back to ninth and then to 10th in the early stages of the race. In fact, Thorson was still right where he started (7th) at the halfway point.
On a lap 19 restart, race-long leader Tyler Courtney bounced through turn one and flipped in an incident in which 3rd running Thomas Meseraull also spun. Courtney walked away from the accident, which sent him to a disappointing 21st place finish. Meseraull restarted and raced his way back to 9th.
Thorson was elevated to fourth on the restart, and although Thorson didn't appear to be a challenger for victory early on, this just happened to be the point where Thorson decided to turn up the wick. He now knew he mustn't be impatient or overzealous in his pursuit for victory because he also knew that, at this point with 12 laps remaining, his car was just beginning to come to him.
"My whole race started off kind of slow," Thorson explained. "The last few nights, I've been backing up at the start of the race, but my car comes in so good at the end of the race, I knew just to stay patient and not get too crazy cranking on the shocks and just let my car come to me."
"I kept seeing everyone blow the exit off of two, and a little bit off of four, and I knew that was going to be my speed because I was stuck with what we have going on right now," Thorson continued. "So stuck and being able to drive off so straight and so fast, and keeping my momentum up even though I was kind of chocking the car up, I knew that was going to be my time to get there."
The two-car Tucker-Boat Motorsports juggernaut of teammates Chris Windom and Larson now occupied the top-two positions. Those two drivers aimed to provide the Tucker-Boat team a complete sweep of the entirety of Indiana Midget Week feature wins, a feat that had only been accomplished once before in 2016 by Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports.
But with Windom a one-time victor at 2020 IMW and Larson already claiming a record four wins and already having this year's IMW title in hand, the two appeared to be odds-on favorites to dominate the top-two spots down the stretch. However, Thorson, the 2016 USAC National Midget champ, had other plans in the hopper, as he tracked down Larson and made his move for second with an inside turn two pass of him with five laps to go to move to second.
"Once I got to Larson on that restart, I kept seeing his left front tire locking up and pushing out, pushing out, and I knew I needed to get in there hard and be able to beat him at the exit because he was blowing his exit way too much," Thorson recalled. "I was able to watch both of them. They weren't getting as close to the infield tires as I was. A couple times, I actually even brushed it and felt it barely tap the wheels. It's crazy how precise you have to be to be able to run down there."
Now with only Windom standing between he and victory, Thorson still had nearly a full second of ground to make up in less than five laps around the half-mile, but received another lifeline when 19th running Ethan Mitchell clipped an infield tire in turn two, which then proceeded to roll into the middle of the racing surface, forcing a yellow flag and a restart with three to go.
It was just what Thorson needed and, as the green flag dropped, Thorson ducked to the inside of Windom exiting turn two and moved to the lead as third-running Larson headed topside and got the groove working just in time to make one last patented charge that saw him pass a series-high total of 41 cars in features throughout Indiana Midget week, including his emergence ahead of Windom on the white flag lap.
On the final lap, Windom attempted to return to the fray up front a car length back of Thorson midway down the back straightaway while Larson held the same social distance length at the top, with Thorson occupying the middle. Thorson closed the lane on the bottom of turns three and four from Windom and came off the final corner to defeat a rocketing Larson on the high line to the stripe by a half-car length in the closest finish of 2020 Indiana Midget Week.

Kyle Larson's first time running the full Indiana Midget Week schedule since 2011 was a major success, winning four of the six events, and finishing second-place in the other two, including Kokomo, to claim his first IMW title by a 73-point margin, trouncing the previous record 44-point margin set by Darren Hagen in 2012.

Behind Thorson and Larson, Windom took third while Clinton Boyles secured a career-best 4th place finish and Kyle Cummins was an impressive 5th after starting 15th.
All the work and time that comes into preparing cars to win USAC National Midget races can be taxing, but for Thorson, he considers his role on this team as one that has helped his resurgence in the 2020 season in becoming already a three-time series winner through the first 11 events.
"I think there's a lot to say about being able to do your own car," Thorson said. "Nothing against Keith Kunz and his whole team, but there's something about that, for my satisfaction, to be able to do my car. I get to build it throughout the week and set it up and there's nothing that means more to me than being able to do that, and I think it drives me even harder. I want to win more than anybody out here and I think a lot of that is because I kind of need to. I make a living off what I make here whether I blow up or not. I might walk out with 5 bucks or I might walk out with 3-grand. It's just a matter of pushing myself as hard as I can. We've been one of the fastest cars all week but just haven't been in the right situations. (We've been) sitting ducks, kind of like those two were tonight. I was able to finally take advantage of that tonight and pull off the win."
For Larson (Elk Grove, Calif.), his first time running the full Indiana Midget Week schedule since 2011 was a major success, winning four of the six events, and finishing second-place in the other two, including Kokomo, to claim his first IMW title by a 73-point margin, trouncing the previous record 44-point margin set by Darren Hagen in 2012.
But, on Sunday night at Kokomo, Larson very narrowly missed the equivalent of a walk-off home run by winning the final race and the Indiana Midget Week title in one fell swoop such as Bryan Clauson in 2009, Brad Kuhn in 2010, Christopher Bell in 2013 and Rico Abreu in 2015.
"The last restart was really exciting," Larson recalled. I wish I would've got the top going a little sooner. I felt like we were running an okay pace around the bottom where the top wouldn't keep up. There, we got to that last caution, and I said 'screw it,' I got to try something else."
