FREMONT, Ohio – Cole Duncan exhibited maturity beyond his 28 hears Saturday at Fremont Speedway as he was patient on a slick surface and with lapped traffic to claim the 410 sprint feature win on Custom Metal Works of Norwalk Night to open the 2020 racing season.
Duncan, who hails from Circleville, Ohio, took the lead on lap 2 and only had to survive one caution flag and heavy lapped traffic toward the end to score his fourth career Fremont win.
“This is old school Jim Ford Fremont (former track promoter). A lot of these guys have never watched when it was Jim Ford Fremont like this. I might not have a lot of experience on this track like this but I’ve watched a lot of races,” said Duncan in the Engine Pro Victory Lane.
“We were pretty good all night with the exception of the heat race…we weren’t great. We went to work on it…threw a couple of things at it…we wanted to experiment a little bit. It paid off. It’s hard when you get out front like that. You don’t know if you drug someone behind you that’s finding a different line than you did. I was excited to get to lapped traffic and start moving around to see if I could find something. Then I got stuck behind lapped traffic and I started to get a little worried. Worst thing you can do is blow it off the end of the track or run into a lapped car and screw up your race. It’s a fine line between being aggressive and trying to get by lapped cars and being patient and making sure you hit whatever moisture you can to propel the car forward,” continued Duncan beside his Ohio Heating, Helms Construction, Motorcity Auto Transport, Gressman Powersports, FK Indy, Wolf Composites backed #22.
“I’m glad we’re getting back to normal. I’m glad we had these great fans out here tonight…that’s awesome. Hopefully we’re back to normal now and we can start going to some cool track and rattling off some more wins,” added Duncan.
Paul Weaver made it a clean sweep of the weekend in 305 sprint action, earning his 52nd career victory at “The Track That Action Built” putting him eighth on the track’s all-time win list. His victory Saturday came after he won at Attica Raceway Park the previous night.
“Pam and Steve Brown come on board last year to help me and I wouldn’t be here if it was for Dave Rice and Bob Hampshire at Hampshire Racing Engines,” said Weaver beside his B&B Drain Services, Hampshire Racing Engines, M&L Excavating, Seagate Sandblasting, Weaver Performance backed #1W.
Fostoria, Ohio’s Shawn Valenti picked right back up where he left off last year in the Burmeister Trophy Dirt Trucks, inheriting the lead when early leader Jim Holcomb had mechanical woes and driving to his 56th career win at Fremont Speedway. He now sits sixth on the track’s all-time feature win list.
“Jim Holcomb had a fast hot rod…not sure what happened to him but tough to see him break. Just another awesome deal to be back in this truck. I have to thank Jeff Babcock for still doing it and Adam from A Plus Auto Center and Chris and John Brooks…they all help out,” said Valenti beside his Craig Miller Trucking, Best Performance Motorsports, Dave Story Equipment, KS Sales & Service, Speedways Bar and Grill backed machine.
In the 30 lap Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprint A-main, Frankie Nervo and Trey Jacobs led the field to green with Nervo gaining the advantage over third starter Duncan, Byron Reed, Jacobs, Cale Conley and DJ Foos. Duncan put the wing back and drove into the lead on the next circuit and pulled steadily away.
Reed grabbed second on lap three but by just lap six was nearly four seconds behind Duncan. The only caution flew on lap seven, putting Reed right on Duncan’s rear bumper. It had little impact as Duncan once again drove away from Reed who now had his hands full with Foos. Foos took the runner-up spot on lap 11 and began to eat into Duncan’s lead while Reed, Jacobs and Zeb Wise put on an entertaining battle for third.
Heavy lapped traffic came into play with 12 laps remaining but Foos could not capitalize as Duncan maintained a two to three second lead. Reed and Jacobs continued to battle for third with Jacobs taking the position with nine laps to go.
With only a handful of laps remaining Duncan was struggling with a pair of lapped cars who were racing side by side. But, Foos could not capitalize as Duncan’s patience paid off as he took the checkers over Foos, Jacobs, Reed and Wise.
Seth Schneider and Weaver comprised the front row of the 25 lap Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprint A-main. Before a lap could be completed three cars at the tail of the field tangled and on the ensuing restart three more had problems. When the green flew, Schneider gained the advantage over Weaver, Kyle Capodice, Matt Foos, Jamie Miller and Alvin Roepke.
Schneider maintained about a four car length advantage with Weaver staying within striking distance while Capodice ran comfortably in third with Miller, Foos and Roepke putting on an entertaining battle for fourth. Weaver raced to Schneider’s outside by lap 10 but a Mike Moore tumble halted the action.
When the green reappeared Schneider was able to hold off Weaver with Capodice, Roepke and Miller giving chase. Weaver’s constant pressure paid off on lap 15 as he drove into the lead.
Weaver pulled away for the victory with Schneider, Capodice, Roepke and Miller rounding out the top five.
Cautions marred the first hand full of laps for the Burmeister Trophy Dirt Truck A-main but Jim Holcomb led at every restart. A great battle for second ensured involving Ben Class, Valenti and Cory McCaughey. Disaster struck for Holcomb on lap 13 as mechanical issues forced him to stop, handing the lead to Valenti.
The battle for second involving Ben Class, Dustin Keegan, Brad Mitten and Dana Fry was fun to watch before a caution flew for Keegan with just two laps to go. Valenti drove away on the restart to take the win over Clapp, Frey, Mitten and Brooks.
Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, June 27 on Willies Sales and Service Night featuring the All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products Attica Fremont Championship Series (AFCS) 410 Sprints presented by the Baumann Auto Group, the NAPA of Bryan AFCS 305 sprints presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales, the NRA Sprint Invader 360 Sprints and the dirt trucks in action.

TIM BUCKWALTER EARNS BIG MONEY VP FUELS BRUCE ROGERS MEMORIAL MONEY MAKER VICTORY AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY, BRIAN HIRTHLER TOPS THE FIELD IN SPORTSMAN MAIN EVENT
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. JUNE 21, 2020 – Out of action due to the COVID19 virus, racing finally returned to the Grandview Speedway 1/3-mile banked clay oval on Saturday night presenting the third annual VP Racing Fuels Bruce Rogers Memorial Money Maker 50-lap Big Block/Small Block Modified feature.
Rogers, the man who helped build the track, along with his father Forrest, was one of the most respected auto racing promoters in the business. During the 55 years of running the facility he was able to bring it to national notoriety. One of the most successful short track racing operations has continued under the operation of members of the Rogers family since he passed away.
Over 54 Modifieds and 35 Sportsman cars lined the pit area to partake in the action to start the 58th consecutive season set with six Modified heats and four Sportsman heats along with consies to see who would make the show.
When the jam packed night of stock car racing action was over Tim Buckwalter had won the Third Annual VP Race Fuels Bruce Rogers Memorial Money Maker 50-lapper that featured big and small block racers battling for the $7,500 top prize. And Brian Hirthler took home the win money in the 25-lap T.P.Truck Equipment Sportsman main event. Each driver that qualified for the 50-lapper earned at least $1,000.
Modified qualifying heats winners were Brian Hirthler, Rick Laubach, Brett Kressley, Billy Pauch Jr., Tim Buckwalter and Kyle Weiss. Consi winners were Dom Buffalino, Jeff Strunk and Mike Lisowski.
Cole Stangle, Brandon Edgar, Ryan Beltz and Brad Brightbill were the heat winners in the Sportsman with Ryan Higgs and Dakota Kohler winning the consies.
Every driver that made the main event through the heats redrew for starting positions.
Through the luck of the draw in the 50-lap event, Billy Pauch Jr. pulled the number one starting grid for the Bruce Rogers Memorial and kept the Rod Breitenstein/BMS Racing No. 14 in the lead until Tim Buckwalter dove underneath him coming off the fourth turn to put the Norm Saxton-owned No. 23X at the front of the pack.
Buckwalter, who has won in just about every type of race car he has ever wheeled, had a full straightaway lead built up at one point and in the later stages, Craig Von Dohren was closing in, but he didn’t have enough laps to actually catch him. At the drop of the checkered Buckwalter picked up the prestigious victory.
Von Dohren received an extra cash award from We The Fans for being the hard charger coming from 22nd to second after he made the race via the consi.
In the 25-lap Sportsman feature it appeared that Brandon Edgar was possibly on his way to his second career victory at the track. Former point champion Brian Hirthler had other ideas and with two laps to go he managed to take the lead away and go on to claim the win which was his sixth career triumph. The last two openers were won by his brother Kevin, but this year Brian decided it was his turn.
The Dan’s Deli ½-way hoagie award recipients were Buckwalter and Edgar. Doug Manmiller received the Cargo Trailers certificate. Four non-qualifying drivers received $250 from American Racers Tires in a drawing and they included Mark Kratz, Brad Grim, T.J. Lilly and Nate Brinker.
Before the green could be thrown in the Modified feature, a tangle occurred in the third turn during the four-abreast parade lap. Through it, Buckwalter got a flat tire, but he was allowed to go to the pits and change it and not lose a position.
Pauch Jr. maintained the lead when action resumed trailed by Kyle Weiss, Ryan Krachun, Dylan Swinehart and Buckwalter.
The running order remained the same for several laps with Buckwalter and Krachun swapping third and fourth coming upon lapped traffic.
Meme DeSantis brought out the yellow on the 14th lap when he slowed along the homestretch. Before the restart Weiss, who was running a solid second constantly gaining ground on Pauch Jr. had to pit with a left flat tire relinquishing second for Buckwalter. Pauch Jr. held his ground on this restart, but one lap later Buckwalter was the new leader.
While Buckwalter showed the way action behind him was hot and heavy between Pauch Jr., Jared Umbenhauer, Krachun and D. Swinehart.
By the 25th lap Buckwalter had a full straightaway lead built up in his mount powered by a Morrison Race Engine, but by now he was being chased by Umbenhauer, Von Dohren, Pauch and Ryan Watt, who loaned Buckwalter parts earlier in the evening.
Von Dohren finally cleared Umbenhauer after battling for second for many laps and set sail after the rapid running Buckwalter.
Despite the fact Von Dohren closed the distance, he ran out of laps to try to get the lead away from Buckwalter as Buckwalter pulled into the winner’s circle trailed by Von Dohren, Watt, Umbenhauer and Jeff Strunk, another driver that had to run the consi to make the show.
Interesting to note that multi-time track champions Von Dohren and Strunk had to qualify through the consolation events.
Sportsman action saw pole sitter Jesse Landis set the pace for six laps before Edgar moved into first on the seventh circuit.
Nathan Mohr found himself facing the wrong direction in the first turn bringing out the yellow eighth lap. Before action resumed Jim Housworth, while running a solid fifth, had to pit since the belly pan was dragging. On the restart Landis managed to regain control, but was short lived as tree laps later Edgar took back the lead coming out of the fourth turn.
Behind Edgar dicing for positions were Landis, Brian Hirthler, Kyle Lilick and Brad Arnold.
Once Hirthler overtook second he began to pressure Edgar.
With two laps remaining the fifth lead change occurred as Hirthler was now the new leader.
Hirthler never surrendered the lead and was back in victory lane again trailed by Edgar, Lilick, Arnold and Landis.
Next Saturday, June 27, a full show of T.P. Trailers Modified and T.P. Trailers Truck Equipment Sportsman which will begin the point season will be presented with the Blast From The Past Vintage Cars will be part of the tripleheader show set to get underway at 7:30 p.m.

FIRST TIMER: Carson Short stands tall at Haubstadt for first win
Illinois driver holds off World of Outlaws stars for first Series win in 11 starts
HAUBSTADT, IN – June 19, 2020 – Carson Short held up the checkered flag as high as he could. Confetti rained around him. The crowd of 5,000 people sounded like 20,000 with their empathic cheers echoing around the speedway.
If you asked Short, he just won the Knoxville Nationals. Or at least that’s what it felt like to the Marion, IL driver.
After fending off slide job attacks by Sheldon Haudenschild, Short went on to win his first career World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series win Friday night at Tri-State Speedway.
“It feels great,” Short said getting his first Series win. “Especially here. It’s where I won my first USAC race, too. It’s a great track. Everyone says it’s a different track. It’s technical. I felt like tonight was up top, running the cushion. It just feels great.”
Short led all 30 laps to claim the win in his 11th World of Outlaws start, driving for his grandfather, Richard Short’s small underfunded team. He also became the first first-time winner in more than a year for the Series.
Before the night, Short had two top-10 finishes with the Series – the first coming at Tri-State Speedway. While he only has a handful of starts in a winged Sprint Car, he has several laps around the quarter-mile track. With it being about an hour and a half from his Illinois home, Tri-State became a home track for Short. And the fans treated him as a hometown driver all night long.
“You don’t get any better than the fans here at Haubstadt,” Short said. “They’re just down home ready to watch some Sprint Car racing. They love it. It’s just the atmosphere. Winning at Haubstadt, I feel like it’s the small track of the Knoxville Nationals, if you will, with the fans. Those guys are crazy.”
Short earned the pole position for the 30-lap Feature with his win in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash. He took the lead from Haudenschild on the first lap and never looked back.
The same happened at the start of the Feature. However, Haudenschild didn’t let Short get away.
On Lap 7, Short got sideways off Turn 2, allowing Haudenschild to plan an attack to pass for the next turn. Before he could, Jeff Swindell flipped in Turn 2, bringing out the red flag.
When the race resumed, Short maintained about a two-car length distance on the NOS Energy Drink #17 car. Even when he had to wrangle his way through lap traffic, Short looked like a veteran slicing through traffic with ease.
With five laps to go, Haudenschild threw a Hail Mary slide job underneath Short’s #21 car going into Turn 3. He took the lead, but Short was able to cross underneath him and bolt back ahead of him down the straightaway. From then on, Haudenschild couldn’t get close enough again to attempt another slider. He had to settle for the runner-up finish.
“Hats off to Carson, he did a phenomenal job,” said Haudenschild, of Wooster, OH. “I was waiting on him to make a mistake and he didn’t do it. Then, I was waiting on traffic and he got through there really well. Congrats to him. I love seeing first time winners. Congrats to him. I’m happy with a second.
“We’ve been really good here. Just keep this momentum rolling. I keep telling my guys, if we keep being in this top-five we’re going to win races. We’re just working for that.”
His second-place finish was his second in a row at the track and his sixth top-five finish in the last seven races, which helped move him up to fourth in the championship standings – 124 points behind leader Brad Sweet.
David Gravel, of Watertown, CT, rounded out the podium. His third-place finish is a welcomed rebound from his 19th-place finish at Knoxville Raceway last weekend.
Behind him in fourth was Carson Macedo, of Lemoore, CA – his third fourth-place finish in a row.
Fellow Californian and reigning champion Brad Sweet, of Grass Valley, CA, finished fifth, extending his points lead over 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz – who finished 11th for the second race in a row – to 38 points.
Sweet swept the weekend at Beaver Dam Raceway and then the next weekend at Knoxville Raceway was swept by Kyle Larson.

Will Short be next in line to sweep the World of Outlaws’ first doubleheader weekend at Tri-State Speedway during the live broadcast on CBS Sports Network Saturday night?
“God, I hope so,” Short said with a chuckle and smile on his face. “Yeah, the car is on rails. I don’t think the track is going to change any. It (the #21 car) would go anywhere I wanted it to go. Even when (Haudenschild) showed me the nose with his slide job, I could cross underneath. It just had speed everywhere. Yeah, I feel like we can back it up tomorrow night and get another win.”

The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series returns to Tri-State Speedway Sat., June 20 for the second night of the historic weekend. The Feature will be live on CBS Sports Network – the first time the World of Outlaws has been live on national television since 2012 – at 9 p.m. (ET). The entire event will be broadcasted live on DIRTVision, as well.

WINDOM LEADS TUCKER-BOAT 1-2 FINISH AT LINCOLN PARK

Putnamville, Indiana (June 19, 2020).........On a night where a throng of watchful eyes were affixed on whether Kyle Larson could continue his unbeaten streak at Indiana Midget Week, it wound up as the continuation of another ongoing streak – the dominance of Tucker-Boat Motorsports, as Chris Windom captured the team’s fourth-straight USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget victory of the week with a one-two Tucker-Boat sweep led by Windom and Larson on Friday night at Lincoln Park Speedway.
Windom stole the show, dominating the final half of Friday night’s 30-lap feature event to become the third multi-time winner of the season with the series after earlier winning in February at Ocala, Fla. during Winter Dirt Games, joining two-time victor Tanner Thorson and three-time winner Larson, each of whom would play a starring role up front on this night at LPS.
Larson was aiming to become the first driver to win four consecutive USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget races since he, himself, did it in 2012-2013. However, Windom (Canton, Ill.) had his own plan to abide by, winning his second career Indiana Midget Week race after capturing his first IMW win just a little over a year ago.
In doing so, Windom collected an extra $1,000 by claiming the bounty set forth by Priority Aviation throughout Indiana Midget Week for anybody who could defeat Larson, something that hadn’t been accomplished by anybody between USAC, the World of Outlaws, the All Stars over the past couple of weeks.
“It’s pretty cool to dethrone him because he’s probably the best racecar driver maybe to ever live,” Windom said. “It’s pretty awesome to come here with this Tucker-Boat team, and every single night, we’ve had a win. I just can’t thank all these guys enough on this team for all the hard work they do running three or four cars every night.”
Larson had earlier recorded his second Fatheadz Eyewear fast qualifying time of 2020 IMW, then proceeded to win his heat race and was vying to sweep the night’s program from the sixth starting spot in the feature with the inversion.
With the average starting spot for a feature winner with the series this year being 9.25 throughout the first eight races to begin the year, no driver had yet to win a USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget feature from the front row in this season.
Starting on the outside of the front row in his Tucker-Boat Motorsports/NOS Energy Drink - Pristine Auction - K & C Drywall/Spike/Speedway Toyota, Windom fought for the lead in a hardcore feud with polesitter Buddy Kofoid. After Windom led the first two, Kofoid crossed Windom over exiting turn four on the third lap, leading Windom to the stripe a single car length up front.
Windom immediately came back at Kofoid with a barrage of haymakers on each end of the racetrack, sliding past Kofoid on entry three consecutive times, but Kofoid ultimately closed the path of the slider line on Windom in turn three to secure the position on lap four.
On the seventh lap, fourth-running Tyler Courtney spun sideways at the top of turn one and into the path of Larson, who promptly T-boned Courtney in close proximity. Appearing to briefly remain connected to Courtney, Larson stayed on the gas and was able to untangle himself from the web and continue onward with seemingly little in the way of wear and tear.
Meanwhile, Courtney stopped on the top of the banking, and was forced to restart from the tail where he drove back to a 14th place finish, dropping from first to third in the season-long USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget standings of which he is a defending champion.
On the 13th lap, Windom returned the favor on Kofoid, ducking to the bottom of turn one and sliding up in front of Kofoid for the lead. Kofoid came right back after Windom in turn three a half-lap later, sliding past the two-time USAC National champ who turned down and drove right past the top-performing series Rookie thus far to snare the position and the race lead with 17 laps remaining.
With eight to go, Larson was still mired in fourth, but a late charge saw him lunge past Kofoid for third on the bottom, then by Thorson for second in quick succession. However, thwarted in traffic with the lapped cars of Robert Dalby and Maria Cofer, Thorson surged back past Larson for the position, first high, then low, as needed. to reclaim the spot, seemingly for good.
Meanwhile, the coast was clear for Windom as he closed out his fourth career USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget feature victory by a 1.825 second margin of victory.
Thorson, who appeared headed for a solid second-place finish, had an engine failure coming out of turn four, dropping him back to seventh at the finish line. Larson collected a second-place finish with Kofoid, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Tanner Carrick rounding out the top-five.

Windom became the new overall USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget point leader by 27 markers over Courtney and admitted that it was a physical 30 laps, but he knew he had to do everything he could to beat Larson, Kofoid and a host of others just a little over a year following his first career series win during IMW.
“Damn, I’m worn out after that,” Windom said with a laugh in victory lane. “The track was giddy up. Once we got to the lead there, I knew I could maintain speed as long as I didn’t make any mistakes through three and four.”
For Larson, it was a magical run that lasted nearly two weeks and encompassed a string of eight victories across three series, a performance that won’t soon be forgotten. However, the streak came to an end Friday at Lincoln Park, although it did help him enhance his IMW point lead to 28.
“I didn’t do a great job there,” Larson admitted. “Everybody was kind of going places and I felt like maybe I spent too long trying to hit the bottom of three and four. Every streak comes to an end eventually. It was nice to get eight. I’ve got seven in a row before, so to beat that was pretty special.”
“We were trying to run above the cushion (in turns one and two) and exit low,” Larson continued. “It was kind of hard to cross over the cushion and keep your rear tires underneath you. To run the bottom, I felt like that was coming in, and I was trying to get myself lower and lower and got myself into the grease and I think that allowed Tanner (Thorson) to get by me. Then, I didn’t do a great job in traffic, so I felt like if I would’ve cleared those two cars when I got to them, I would’ve had a really good shot at Chris, but he ran a great race and didn’t make any mistakes.”

ATTICA, Ohio - Tim Shaffer, a hall of fame sprint car driver certainly has the resume that would draw the attention of any owner. But, sprint car owners are scarce so Tim Shaffer got on the phone and a former ride was available - with Bryan Grove. It has paid off so far in 2020 as Shaffer earned his 18th career 410 win at Attica Raceway Park Friday, June 19 on Craig Miller Trucking/Erie Blacktop/Bucyrus Road Materials Night.
"It's pretty awesome. Hats off to Bryan Grove and the boys helping us. We had a blast together before it was just short on money...we used a lot of used tires. This time we're doing it right. We changed bars and stuff before the feature...we're here to learn and the only way you're going to learn is if you change things up and take chances and it paid off tonight," said Shaffer beside his Canton Erectors, Kinards Lounge backed #28.
Whitehouse, Ohio's Matt Miller didn't race for the past year and half and it took him only a few laps to knock the rust off but it all came back and he drove the Rick DeLong late model to his 9th career Attica victory.
"We haven't raced in like a year and a half so it took a little bit to knock the rust off. I can't thank Rick DeLong enough....he does this all out of his own pocket. There's nothing on the sides of this car. I was committed to the bottom. The sprint car guys built that ledge up there and it was treacherous. I saw Markham (Ryan) up there and it made me a little bit nervous but I just hit my marks and it worked out," said Miller.
Fremont, Ohio's Paul Weaver held off mid race challenges from Brandon Moore and a late race charge from Kyle Peters to score his 50th career 305 sprint victory at "Ohio's Finest Racing" speedplant.
"Fifty more wins would be nice but I'm not Art Ball," joked Weaver. "I was having fun and then I saw them racing underneath me I figured I have to race around the tires. If I had seen the 26 car (Jamie Miller) behind me I would have had to move up," said Weaver beside his B&B Drain Service, Hampshire Racing Engines, M&L Excavating, Seagate Sandblasting, Weaver Performance backed machine.
Cale Conley and Shaffer brought the field to green for the 30-lap Callie's Performance Products 410 Sprint feature with Conley gaining the advantage over Shaffer, Trey Jacobs, Craig Mintz, Lee Jacobs and last week's winner Cap Henry. With six laps scored Shaffer began to make his move, closing on Conley as they prepared to race into heavy lapped traffic. Meanwhile Henry had moved into third and was also reeling in the top two.
Henry took second on lap 10 but Shaffer and Jacobs continued to hound him as Conley led but a narrow margin. Shaffer used lapped traffic to regain second on lap 12 and just began to pressure Conley when the caution flew on the restart Shaffer drove under the leader to take the top spot while Jacobs grabbed third. Shaffer began to pull away as Conley, Jacobs and Henry waged an entertaining battle for the runner-up spot.
Traffic again came into play with 10 laps to go and Craig Mintz had found something on the top of the track and and took third two circuits later. Another caution wiped out a substantial lead for Shaffer with seven laps to go. Shaffer hit his marks perfectly on the restart and continued to lead with Henry and Mintz in tow. The final caution flew on lap 25 and once again Shaffer rocked away on the restart with Henry and Mintz battling hard for second.
Shaffer drove away for the win with Mintz holding off Henry for second. Jacobs and Byron Reed (up from 15th) rounding out the top five.The victory was worth an extra $500 thanks to Gill Construction and CK Plumbing.
Tim Sabo and Devin Shiels brought the field to green for the 25 lap Propane.com/Dirt Nerds Podcast DIRTcar late model A-main. Sabo led the first lap but Shiels, a former Attica track champion, grabbed the top spot a lap later while last week's winner Ryan Markham and Miller battled hard for third. Miller drove into second on lap three and applied pressure to Shiels and made the pass for the lead but a caution flew handing the top spot back to Shiels.
When the green flew with 19 laps to go Miller drove under Shiels to take the lead. A rash of cautions the first half of the race kept the field close. Miller pulled away slightly in the lead while a very intense battle took place for second involving Shiels, Matt Irey, Markham and Sabo. Irey took the runner-up spot with 10 laps to go but Shiels would not give up continuing to race side by side. Miller was able to maintain his smooth corners and drove away to the win over Irey, Shiels, Sabo and Jon Henry.
Weaver and Brandon Moore comprised the front row of the Fremont Fence 305 Sprints A-main and when the green dropped Weaver took the lead over Moore, Kyle Peters, Steve Rando, Kyle Capodice, Kody Brewer and Jamie Miller. Weaver quickly began to pull away but a caution on lap five wiped that big lead away. On the restart Moore pressured Weaver with Peters, Capodice and Miller staying within striking distance.
Heavy lapped traffic was about to come into play when the caution flew just as Moore was making his bid for the lead. On the restart Weaver hit his marks perfectly and pulled away while Moore now had to contend with Peters. Following a caution with six laps to go, Weaver continued to lead but Peters drove into second over Moore and a closing Jamie Miller. Peters utilized the extreme high line and caught weaver with five laps to go but contact with front stretch wall with two circuits left slowed his momentum and Weaver drove to the victory over Peters, Miller, Moore and Seth Schneider who had charged from his 18th starting spot.
Attica Raceway Park will kick off the 2020 All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products Attica Fremont Championship Series Presented by the Baumann Auto Group for the 410 sprints vying for $4,000 to win along with the opener for the Napa Auto Parts of Bryan AFCS Presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales 305 Sprints battling for $1,000 to win thanks to Gressman Powersports. It will also be the first race of the Attica-Oakshade Raceway Challenge Series for the late models paying $1,200 to win.

LARSON STAYS UNBEATEN AT IMW; WINS 3RD STRAIGHT AT LPS

Putnamville, Indiana (June 18, 2020).........Just when a little doubt crept in that maybe a 15th place starting spot just might be too much to overcome, Kyle Larson was there to prove that notion wrong. Again.
The Elk Grove, Calif. native is now 3-for-3 at Indiana Midget Week following Thursday night's USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget triumph in round three of the series at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind.
It was Larson's third consecutive Indiana Midget Week victory in as many nights and was his eighth consecutive feature win across USAC, World of Outlaws and All Star competition in less than a two-week span.
Furthermore, Larson became the series' first driver to win three consecutive feature events since, well, himself. He won the final three races of the 2019 season and has now won six USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget races in his last six starts.
Two nights after winning the opener at Paragon Speedway and one night after charging from 14th to the win at Gas City I-69 Speedway, Larson did it again, already becoming the first driver to win three races in a single Indiana Midget Week, but this one in particular made him most proud.
"To come from 15th like that on a super technical racetrack is very special to me," Larson said. "I had a good line working in three and four. People would enter in and turn across, and I felt like I could run above the cushion the whole way and be good. It got some holes developing over there. It was a little tricky."
Relatively speaking, of course, Larson dug himself a hole he would have to drive himself out of, much as he did one night prior at Gas City. He qualified 9th, then missed the transfer in the heat race, and finished a ho-hum 3rd in the semi-feature, which placed him inside of row eight for the start of the feature.
Cannon McIntosh led the first third of the 30-lapper, repealing repeated challenges from fourth-starting Tanner Thorson who slid past McIntosh on multiple occasions throughout the first nine laps, with McIntosh denying him the position each time, for the time being.
That is, until the 10th lap, when Thorson found grip on the bottom of turns one and two to pull even with McIntosh exiting turn two. Thorson out-drag raced McIntosh into the third corner, slid up and ripped away the position for the race lead. McIntosh brought the heat to in retaliation, sliding his way past from bottom to top in three and four, but Thorson dipped low and nipped McIntosh by a single strand of hair at the line before pulling away on the back straight as McIntosh hiccupped at the exit of two.
By the 14th circuit, a familiar name had popped up on the radar with Larson occupying 6th and now closing in on a gaggle in a close-knit battle for 3rd. Larson took matters into his own hands, splitting between Buddy Kofoid and fast qualifier Chris Windom midway down the back straightaway of the 5/16-mile dirt oval before utilizing the bottom to slide up in front of Zach Daum for third-place at the exit of turn four.
Moments later, on the 16th lap, 11th running Jason McDougal got upside down atop the banking in turns three and four, from which he emerged unscathed, but saw his race end.
All that did was help close the gap for Larson between his 3rd position and the leaders. A spectacular high/low pass of McIntosh for 2nd was negated by a yellow for a Kevin Thomas Jr. spin in the second turn on lap 17. But, on the following restart, it didn't long for Larson to resume his craftwork, submitting a 2-for-1 slide job in turn three that sent him past both McIntosh and Thorson for the lead momentarily as Thorson ducked back under to nip Larson at the line and retain the lead.
Larson fired another shot on the 21st lap, powering past Thorson on the bottom of turn three, only to slide up at the exit of four as Thorson shot back under to beat Larson at the stripe by a wheel.
With 9 to go, Thorson's car hopped off the bottom of turn two, opening a clear lane on the bottom for Larson to skate on by and snag the race lead. Thorson promptly came back at Larson in turn three on consecutive laps, trying to slide on by but was not able to get enough mustard on the fastball to slide in front of him, only to pull side-by-side before Larson scooched away.
Kyle Larson (#86) won Thursday's Lincoln Park Speedway round of Indiana Midget Week after starting 15th. Second-place finisher Tanner Thorson (#19) won the same race in 2019, also after starting 15th.

A clear lane to victory for Larson was interrupted by the stopped car of 12th running Carson Macedo, who came to a halt on the back straight with smoke pouring out from under the hood. Under the caution, Thomas Meseraull, who had worked his way to 4th, pulled off and into the work area due to a flat right rear tire. That sequence of events orchestrated a final three-lap shootout where Larson was not to be denied.
"I felt like, when I slid Tanner and Cannon a couple times in three and four, I could actually make up ground, and they would only get to my inside. I felt like if I just ran that line the last few laps, I could carry enough speed to the exit that they wouldn't have a run to get to my back bumper inside down the front stretch."
From there, Larson closed out a masterpiece performance with a 1.285 second margin of victory over Thorson, McIntosh, Windom and Shane Golobic.
The victory was Larson's 8th of his Indiana Midget Week career, putting him just one victory shy of Bryan Clauson's all-time mark of nine wins with the series. Furthermore, the win was the 22nd of Larson's USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget career, equaling him with past series champions Bobby East and Shorty Templeman for 26th all-time.
"(I had) just a really great car once again," Larson said of his Tucker-Boat Motorsports/Pristine Auction - K & C Drywall/Spike/Speedway. "(It's) cool to be the first to win three Indiana Midget Week races (in a week), and in a row too, that's special. Hopefully, there's many more the rest of the week. It's been a lot of fun."
For Thorson, it was his second runner-up finish to Larson in a three-night span after finishing 2nd at the Paragon opener. Ironically, it was he who started 15th and won at the Lincoln Park round of IMW in 2019. Thorson made no bones about his motivation in the upcoming final three rounds of Indiana Midget Week, to find an answer on how to stop Larson.
"It just sucks being a sitting duck," Thorson exclaimed regarding leading a restart. "That's what happened at Paragon (too). He's (Larson) the best there is. There's no two ways about it. To run second to him, I guess it's saying something, but damn, I want to win. I need to stop this guy."
Meanwhile, a turn four flip involving defending Indiana Midget Week champion Logan Seavey was the most serious accident of the night. Seavey climbed out of his crashed ride with assistance from the medical crew, but was later transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. for observation.

Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour Restarting 2020 Season At Caney Valley and I-30 Speedway
Bryan Hulbert – TULSA, Okla. (June 18, 2020) With venues opening and ASCS Officials able to work with tracks across the country, the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network is set to roar back to life on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan.
The first time back at the Kansas quarter-mile since June 21, 1993, during Speedweek, the win went to Terry Gray.
Presented by Terry Mattox Promotions, the event is co-sanctioned with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products and includes Factory Stocks and Stock Cars. The Thursday showdown will include a Fireworks Show after the races.
The first of a two-part weekend, the series will see action on Saturday, June 27 at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. The 76th National Tour event at “Hammer Hill”, the last visit on May 12, 2018, went to Sam Hafertepe, Jr.
Going into the two-race affair, Oklahoma’s Harli White leads the way over Sam Hafertepe, Jr. by 14 markers with Roger Crockett, Blake Hahn, and Matt Covington all within 37 points of the lead. California’s Tanner Carrick holds sixth with Jordon Mallett, Scott Bogucki, Dylan Westbrook, and Blake Carrick completing the top ten in tour standings.
Thursday, June 25 at Caney Valley Speedway opens at 5:00 P.M. with racing getting underway at 8:00 P.M. (CT). Admission is $20 for adults and Kids 12 and under get into the grandstand for free. Caney Valley Speedway is located at CR 1300 in Caney, Kan.

Opening at 5:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 27, the action at I-30 Speedway is slated to begin at 7:30 P.M.
