Kyle Larson scores 14th All Star win of 2020 in Lincoln’s Dirt Classic 7
ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. (September 20, 2020) - For the 14th time of 2020, Elk Grove, California’s Kyle Larson found his way to Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 victory lane, and a big trip it was, scoring Lincoln Speedway’s Dirt Classic 7 for a $20,000 top prize.
Dominating much of the evening program, Larson, aboard the Paul Silva-owned/Finley Farms/Durst/Lucas Oil/Tarlton and Sons/No. 57 sprint car, led every circuit of the 40-lap finale, kicking things off in the Pigeon Hills with a win in each of his respective Dirt Classic heat races. Impressive enough, the Lincoln Speedway win is actually Larson’s second of the week, first securing $6,900 during the unsanctioned Weldon Sterner Memorial on Wednesday, September 16.
With all victories across all divisions included, Larson now owns 39 wins in 2020.
“My car felt great all night, so I was really happy about that. To get the win in our second heat race allowed us to carry that momentum into the feature,” Kyle Larson explained, who leads the 2020 All Star Circuit of Champions win count. “Central Pennsylvania is as tough as it gets. The first couple years coming out here, I only got to run maybe seven or eight times, but now that I’ve been coming out here a lot more with Paul (Silva), we’ve been quick. It just shows how good Paul prepares these cars and what our team is able to do. We certainly couldn’t do it without everyone who helps.”
Larson was relatively unchallenged during the entire 40-lap program with his only disturbances in the form of cautions; a pair of yellow flags on lap 26 and 31, and one red flag stoppage on lap 35.
Dillsburg’s Anthony Macri chased Larson for much of the Dirt Classic main event, snagging second from Rico Abreu on lap three and maintaining that position until the caution on lap 31. The ensuing restart allowed two-time All Star champion, Aaron Reutzel, and former full-time Outlaw contender, Brent Marks, to drive by the Macri Concrete No. 39M. The red flag stoppage on lap 35 for a tangled Paul McMahan and Danny Dietrich allowed Reutzel the opportunity to restart on the tail tank of the familiar No. 57, but Larson proved to be too much to overcome, driving off to score the $20,000 payday.
Aaron Reutzel finished second, followed by Brent Marks, Rico Abreu and Anthony Macri.
“Those last 15 or so laps, the cautions really worked out for me,” Larson continued. “That allowed me to just kinda focus on the track in front of me, as well as keep the tires underneath me. The first 25 laps were fun, too. When I caught traffic, I really wasn’t sure what to do because all of the lap cars were kinda the same speed. I never really saw a nose inside of me, so I didn’t feel pressured much.
“Thanks to all of the fans for coming out and supporting this race. We always talk about the competition in Pennsylvania, but the race fans are second to none. We love coming out here and getting to see everyone.”

The Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 will conclude their 2020 season with four starts in the Buckeye State, first visiting the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 22-23. TEXAS TWO STEP: Logan Schuchart Ropes Second Devil’s Bowl Win
The championship points battle tightens with only eight points separating Brad Sweet and Schuchart
MESQUITE, TX — Sept. 19, 2020 — Blood was in the water. The scent of victory lingered for Shark Racing’s Logan Schuchart at Devil’s Bowl Speedway Saturday night.
The hunger for a win had been turning in his stomach for the past two months.
Since claiming the trophy at the Terre Haute Action Track in mid-July, Schuchart went on a run of 18 top-10 finishes in a row, including four runner-up finishes, but no wins.
When the opportunity to visit Victory Lane for the second year in a row at Devil’s Bowl – the birthplace of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series – presented itself, Schuchart made the most of it. He maneuvered his way past the likes of Jason Sides, Jacob Allen, Sheldon Haudenschild and David Gravel to go from fifth to the lead by the halfway point of the 30-lap Feature and then went on to claim the $20,000 win.
“We’ve had a lot of seconds and thirds in the last two months,” said Schuchart, of Hanover, PA. “Some really good races. Ran up front with big names and with great teams. There’s a lot of great teams out here that are tough to beat but this Drydene Performance Products race team is going to keep working hard and do the best we can to get this thing in the winner’s circle.
“Just happy to see these guys’ hard work – Ron Helmick, Ben Witman, Tyler Garber, Brendan Collum, Bill (Klingbeil), my grandfather (Bobby Allen), Michael Newman, everybody that is a part of this team – to just get this thing were it needs to be and see their hard work pay off and get this thing back in victory lane where it belongs.”
The victory was his sixth of the season and 22nd of his World of Outlaws career. It also helped him close back in on the championship lead. He now trails points leader Brad Sweet, who finished fourth, by eight points with 12 races remaining.
Before Schuchart galloped his Drydene sponsored horse through the field, Gravel and Haudenschild entered the Feature as the early favorites. Gravel set Quick Time for the fifth time this year – tying him with Sweet and Kyle Larson for the most Quick Time awards this season – won his Drydene Heat Race and then the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash.
However, his Dash win came with a bit of luck. Gravel and Haudenschild crossed the finish line at a dead tie – 0.000. Since Gravel led the lap prior, he was awarded the victory.
Like Schuchart, Gravel has craved a return to Victory Lane. His last win came at Knoxville Raceway about a month ago. He earned seven top-five finishes in the nine races after and had been a contender to win in several of them. He felt Saturday night at Devil’s Bowl could finally result in another trophy.
He rocketed ahead of the field in the early stage of the Feature, leaving little hope for second-place Haudenschild to get as close to him as he did during the Dash.
While he led, Schuchart did his dance through the field. He was in fourth by Lap 3. Third by Lap 8. And second by Lap 9. Five laps later he could sense the blood in the water. Gravel was in sight and in striking distance.
As the pair exited Turn 2, they had to split the lap car of rookie Mason Daniel, who ran the middle lane through the corner. Gravel chose to go high and Schuchart went low. The Pennsylvania driver’s choice proved to be most beneficial. Gravel was left little room between he, Daniel, and the edge of the track, forcing him to back off the throttle, while Schuchart was left an open door to jolt by them both.
That split second opportunity was all he needed to accomplish his quest of obtaining another victory. Gravel attempted to run him down in the closing laps, keeping him within reach but a caution with three laps to go allowed Schuchart to restart in clear and cruise to the win.
“We had a good enough car to win,” said Gravel, of Watertown, CT. “I’m really bummed for my guys and all our sponsors here tonight. Sometimes it’s better running second there. Mason Daniel has been hard to lap all season and he decides to miss the bottom and give Logan the bottom. It is what it is. We’ll take second and move on.”
He’s on a streak of 26 top-10 finishes in a row, which has helped keep Jason Johnson Racing in the hunt for the team championship. They are currently tied with Schuchart’s Shark Racing team for second in points – 8 points behind Kasey Kahne Racing.
Haudenschild rounded out the podium with his third-place finish, continuing to be one of the best cars on the tour at the moment. He’s collected 12 top-10 finishes in his last 16 races – five of them being wins. He’s now only 14 points behind 10-time Series champion Donny Schatz for third in the driver points.
“The car was good,” said Haudenschild, of Wooster, OH. “Logan (Schuchart) getting by me was a big move. I think we could have kept up with the 41 (of Gravel), but, man, it was a tough track. I feel like in traffic we could have had a shot. We all got bunched up there. We’ll take a third and keep pushing here.”

Sam Hafertepe, Jr. Charges To Third $10,000 Hockett/McMillin Memorial Victory!

(September 19, 2020) Falling back to third for most of the SawBlade.com A-Feature Saturday night, a caution with eight laps to go saw Sam Hafertepe, Jr. mount the late-race charge to secure the $10,000 prize in the General Tire Hockett/McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.

“That was really exciting. If these fans didn’t enjoy that, I don’t know, because there just isn’t better racing than that,” stated Hafertepe.
“These guys, they drove their hearts out and I feel like all three of us should have won this deal. It was just a badass race. Everybody drove each other clean, we were throwing sliders, and that cushion was tough. It was treacherous and really, our car wasn’t that good. Them two had us covered, but I just didn’t give up and kept pushing, and pushing, and pushing. I’ve won this race two other times, and I was determined to make it three.”
Chasing Mark Smith and Derek Hagar on the Lap 32 restart, Hafertepe rolled by Smith for second on Lap 36.
Trailing Hagar by 1.301-seconds, Sam leaned hard on the nearly foot tall cushion that circled the three-eights mile oval. Closing it down to 0.874-seconds the following lap, Sam was within mere car lengths as the pair raced into the third and fourth turns.
Hooking the cushion through the fourth turn, Hagar’s No. 9jr suddenly shot right, launching into the fluff just long enough to give Hafertepe room to sail into the lead on Lap 38.
Racing to the white flag with Hagar in hot pursuit, Hafertepe kept it smooth through the final circuit for his sixth National Tour score of the season. Also counting as a win with the Racinboys.com ASCS Warrior Region presented by Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. tied Jesse Hockett’s nine regional triumphs.
Hagar crossed second with Mark Smith, who dominated the opening 27 laps, ending his weekend third. Making up five positions in the Dissolvalloy No. 88, Oklahoma’s Shane Stewart crossed fourth with Justin Sanders completing the top five. Going red for Scott Bogucki, who was running fourth coming to the checkered flag, the finish reverted to the white flag lap after the No. 15h.
Racing around Hafertepe through the opening half of the A-Feature, Dylan Westbrook slipped to sixth with Jordon Mallett seventh. Ayrton Gennetten was eighth with Tim Crawley making up four spots to ninth while Roger Crockett completed the top ten.
Starting the night with SCE Gaskets Qualifiers, wins went to Shane Stewart, Seth Bergman, Jonathan Cornell, and Harli White. BMRS B-Features went to Sean McClelland, Garet Williamson, and Brandon Anderson. The Brodix LCQ went to Sean McClelland.
Provisionals were used by Blake Hahn (Points), Matt Covington (Points), and Miles Paulus (Regional).

FREMONT, Ohio - After a fantastic 2019 season that saw him claim a pair of championships, DJ Foos was struggling in 2020. But about a month ago he and the Burmeister Racing team started to gain momentum and it came to a head Saturday, Sept. 19 at Fremont Speedway as the Fremont, Ohio driver led all 30 laps to score his first win of the season on Pub 400 Night.
“Wrecks kept happening right in front of us and a million yellow flags and Cole (Macedo) is a gasser and I kept expecting a slider in one and two. I kept driving it in there harder and harder…I made so many mistakes there towards the end. There’s one thing I’ve learned this year…you can never take a win for granted. It feels so good to win,” said Foos in the Engine Pro Victory Lane.
“These guys on this team don’t give up. The Burmeisters have been doing this for 60 years and there’s a reason for it. I’m so grateful to be sitting in this car and race every weekend. Fremont, Ohio’s Paul Weaver is having one of the greatest seasons in his long history of racing and he added to his accomplishments Saturday in the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints. Weaver jumped into the lead at the drop of the green of the 25-lap feature from his outside front row starting spot and never looked back, claiming his sixth win of the season at “The Track That Action Built.” Weaver now has 13 total victories in 2020 including seven wins at Attica Raceway Park. Saturday’s triumph was the 57th of his career at Fremont and puts him seventh on the track’s all-time win list.
“Things are just going our way when it comes to pill draws. You keep putting me on the front row and it makes it hard to lose. I want to thank Pam and Steve Brown, Russ Adkins, definitely Bob Hampshire and Dave Rice,” said Weaver of his B&B Drain Service, Hampshire Racing Engines, M&L Excavating, Seagate Sandblasting, Weaver Performance backed #1W.
In a caution filled – 10 yellow flags in 20 laps – Burmeister Trophy Dirt Truck feature, Fostoria, Ohio’s Shawn Valenti took charge on lap seven, survived numerous restarts and drove to his fourth win of the season. It was Valenti’s 59th career win at Fremont putting him fifth on the track’s all-time win list, only one win away from tying John Ivy and Mark Keegan for third.
“To be up there in wins with those guys is pretty amazing. I have to thank the Babocks. When we unloaded this thing we weren’t that good and actually had to have some parts brought in and change a leaf spring that went bad. A pretty amazing group of guys with John Brooks and Chris…they bust their butts on this thing too,” said Valenti of his Best Performance Motorsports; A Plus Auto Center; Craig Miller Trucking; KS Sales & Service; Gressman Powersports; Dave Story Equipment, Speedways Bar and Grill backed #7B.
Foos and Trey Jacobs brought the field to green for the 30-lap Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprint A-main with Foos gaining the advantage over Cole Macedo, Jacobs, Stuart Brubaker, RJ Jacobs, Dean Jacobs and TJ Michael. A caution on lap five kept the field close as Brubaker had moved into third.
Following back-to-back cautions on lap eight and nine, Foos got tremendous restarts and pulled away from Macedo who had his hands full with ninth starter Nate Dussel with Brubaker and Dean Jacobs battling for fourth.
Foos entered heavy lapped traffic at the half-way point and Macedo and Dussel closed with Dean Jacobs taking fourth. With 10 laps to go Foos made a fantastic move in lapped traffic and began to pull away until Josh Turner tipped over right in front of the entertaining battle for second involving Macedo, Dussel and Dean Jacobs.
After another caution on the ensuing restart, Foos pulled away again when the green reappeared but a caution with six laps remaining gave Macedo and Dussel another shot. Foos was too good when the green fell and he drove away to his 16th career victory at Fremont with Dussel taking second on the white flag lap. Macedo, Dean Jacobs and Brian Smith rounded out the top five.
Brandon Moore and Weaver paced the field for the 25 lap 305 A-main with Weaver taking the initial lead over Moore, Jamie Miller, Alvin Roepke, Kyle Capodice and Mike Keegan. A caution after two laps were scored slowed Weaver’s march to the checkers and when the green reappeared he drove away while Miller took second with Roepke taking third on lap five.
Weaver encountered heavy lapped traffic by lap eight but Miller could not close. A caution with 12 laps in put Miller and Roepke right on Weaver’s tail but the veteran again pulled away until another caution on lap 14.
When the green came back out Weaver built his lead once again as Miller and Roepke exchanged the runner-up spot lap after lap with Seth Schneider moving into fourth.
No one was going to catch Weaver as he drove to the win over Roepke, Miller, Schneider and Moore.
In the crash-filled dirt truck A-main, Cory McCaughey grabbed the lead at the drop of the green and maintained the top spot the first six circuits. Valenti used a restart to take the lead on lap seven and despite numerous cautions, would build big leads. A caution with three laps to go wiped out a nearly six second lead for Valenti.
Valenti would not be denied driving to the victory over McCaughey, Jamie Miller, Dana Fry and Kent Brewer.
It will be all sprint cars Saturday, Sept. 26 at Fremont Speedway as the FAST winged 410 sprints come to down along with the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (BOSS) non-wing sprint cars and the 305 sprints.

RUBLE RULES HAUBSTADT HUSTLER FOR FIRST USAC SPRINT WIN

Haubstadt, Indiana (September 19, 2020).........In a year that had produced one first-time USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car winner at Tri-State Speedway this past June, lightning struck twice at the Haubstadt, Ind. quarter-mile dirt oval Saturday night when Kendall Ruble reached victory lane for the first time, collecting $10,000 at the 13th annual Haubstadt Hustler co-sanctioned by the Midwest Sprint Car Series.
Ruble (Vincennes, Ind.) joined Stephen Schnapf as the second first-time winner with the series this season, and became the sixth-ever driver to earn his first USAC National Sprint Car feature triumph at Tri-State along with Schnapf, Daron Clayton (2006), Hunter Schuerenberg (2008), Blake Fitzpatrick (2010) and Carson Short (2016).
Prior to Ruble, the most recent driver to win his first career USAC National Sprint Car in a 40-lapper was current USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car point leader, Chris Windom, who won at Pennsylvania's Big Diamond Speedway in 2010.
Making just his eighth career USAC National Sprint Car feature start, Ruble lined up fourth on the starting grid for the 40-lap feature event aboard his Ruble-Martin Motorsports/Martin's Auto Care - Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance/DRC/SPEC Chevy. Meanwhile, he had two-time Haubstadt Hustler winner Kyle Cummins and 2016 TSS USAC winner Chase Stockon in front of him, plus three-time Haubstadt Hustler winner Kevin Thomas Jr. to his inside in the second row.
To the surprise of many, by the exit of turn two on the opening lap, Cummins had dropped from the pole to third as Stockon raced around the outside to the lead while Ruble pulled a wheel stand as he shot underneath Cummins on the back straightaway to move to second.
Early on, Ruble found the bottom of the racetrack to his liking, and on the third lap, edged Stockon to lead by a car length at the stripe. Stockon, however, reestablished the grip through the middle and cruised back around Ruble to retake the position. Ruble, nonetheless, never wavered from his stranglehold of the bottom.
"In the middle and on the top, if you keep your momentum up around here, you can be very fast," Ruble explained. "But on the bottom, if you can come off the corner here, you're going to be really fast. Also, it kind of helps you protect against people from passing you entering the corner."
Ruble continually badgered Stockon following a caution for Jonathan Vennard, who spun sideways in turn two on the seventh lap where he was then clipped by Chayse Hayhurst, resulting in terminal front end damage to Vennard's ride. Ruble was able to pull even with Stockon several times but was unable sew up the spot, and on lap 13, Stockon closed the door on him in turn one as traffic loomed, securing his escape from the clutches of Ruble for the time being.
"When Stockon got in front of me, he was pretty stinking fast, and he kept pulling on me and pulling on me," Ruble recalled. "With me being a little less experienced driver, every time I got up to lapped traffic, I was hoping somebody would mess up or slow him down a little bit. But, with him being more experienced, he always seemed to get through it a little better than I was."
Following that early caution, Ruble had to talk himself into calming down and letting the race come to him without forcing the issue. That, plus a bit of an adjustment on the shocks, allowed Ruble to stalk Stockon through the halfway point and onto the 31st lap where Ruble stuck it in turns one and two while Stockon swung just a bit wide at the exit of turn two.
As Ruble shot underneath for the lead, Stockon kissed the back straightaway concrete with his right side tires, which scrubbed his speed and also opened the door for Cummins to pounce for the second spot with an inside turn four pass of Stockon.
With six laps remaining, as Ruble tried to negotiate Dakota Jackson on the tail end of the lead lap, Ruble misjudged just slightly, closing a tad too fast on corner entry in turn one, which sent his car straight up the hill just as Cummins peeked underneath to overtake Ruble for the lead. Ruble recalibrated and immediately went to the outside of Cummins exiting turn two while Cummins' surge became stifled as he tried to maneuver under Jackson on the back straightway.
When Cummins and Ruble entered the bottom of turn three side-by-side just moments later, the two grazed wheels with Ruble's left rear tire and Cummins' right rear rubber grazing sidewalls against each other. That sent Cummins into a 90-degree spin backward up the track that also collected 15th running Dave Darland and 16th place Carson Short. Kevin Thomas Jr., running fourth at the moment, also careened into Short, but kept on going, albeit briefly as he pulled into the infield under the ensuing yellow flag, putting him out of the race and out of contention for a record fourth career Haubstadt Hustler victory.
"It was a little bit of racing deal," Ruble admitted. "I could hear an engine behind me and I knew it was either Cummins or Stockon. Once I saw the red nose, I knew it was Cummins. I think he was trying to not nudge me but trying to scare me away from the bottom a little bit and I came down a little bit too much. I got into him, unlike I should've, and I feel pretty bad about that. Not the way I wanted to do it, but here we are."
With a clear path ahead, and just seven laps remaining, Ruble could feel his heart pounding like a jackhammer under his firesuit. Just six laps now stood in the way of him becoming the 258th different driver to win a USAC National Sprint Car race. Once the green flag dropped, Ruble showed no nerves in keeping Stockon at bay lap-after-lap with Stockon seemingly following and setting up one final shot at Ruble and the race lead.
On the final circuit, Stockon maintained a two car length gap behind Ruble, and when the time came to fire his shot, Stockon made a run at him to the bottom of turn three. However, Ruble nailed the bottom perfectly, leaving no gap for Stockon to take advantage of as he pitched his car sideways and slid up the racetrack with Ruble closing out the victory by a 0.830 sec. margin over Stockon.

Jadon Rogers finished a career-best 3rd as he extended his lead in the series' Rookie of the Year race to 55 points. Robert Ballou earned KSE Racing Products/The Frolic Bar & Grill Hard Charger honors by advancing from his 18th starting position to finish 4th. Critter Malone earned Hard Work on his way to a 5th place finish, which was his first top-five result with the series since a November 2006 prelim night for the Oval Nationals at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.
With his late-race surge to a 6th place finish, Chris Windom extended his point lead in the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship standings from two to eight over Brady Bacon with only three events remaining in the 2020 season. Windom's charge included a pass of Bacon for the 7th position just three laps from the end of the 40-lap feature. Bacon finished 8th. Runner-up finisher Stockon is third in the standings, just 36 markers out of the lead.
The night's most serious accident occurred on the final lap of the first heat race where Stan Beadles and Brandon Mattox were battling for the fourth and final transfer spot. Beadles ramped over the right rear tire of Mattox at the exit of turn four and slammed into the outside retaining wall along the front straightaway. The contact ignited a fire which engulfed Beadles' car in flames from which he ultimately escaped under his own power.
In the aftermath, Beadles was attended to by medical personnel, then loaded into an ambulance via stretcher and transported to Ascension St Vincent Hospital in nearby Evansville, Ind. and flown via helicopter to a burn center in Indianapolis for further treatment. A report from the family on social media stated that Beadles had suffered second degree burns to his hands, arms, knees, and face in the accident.

JEFF STRUNK EARNS POT OF GOLD WITH 8TH FREEDOM 76 VICTORY IN THE 50TH ANNUAL EVENT
BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 20, 2020 . . . It seems as if Jeff Strunk rises to the top in big money paying events. Saturday night in the 50th Annual Freedom 76, a 76-lap Modified race started by the late promoter Bruce Rogers in 1971, the 10 time T.P.Trailers NASCAR track Modified point champion held true to form performing in front of a huge crowd. A fierce battle with guaranteed starter Brett Kressley, winner of the Forrest Rogers Memorial, started on the 37th lap after Strunk reeled him in and it wasn’t until the 64th lap that Strunk actually succeeded in becoming the fourth different leader.
Positions were constantly changing until the wave of the checkered when Strunk prevailed as the winner for the eighth time earning a $35,550 payday. He also garnered extra lap money in addition to a Bob Hilbert jacket. Chasing him across the line were N.Y. invader Matt Sheppard and defending race winner and former point champion Mike Gular.
Polesitter Briggs Danner set the pace for one lap before Bobby Varin overtook him.
Within a few laps Varin opened daylight over his fellow competitors. The battle for second brewed between Danner, Brandon Grosso and Sheppard while Lauden Reimert, Richie Hitzler, 2020 Modified point champion Craig Von Dohren and Cory Merkel diced for the remaining positions.
Merkel’s night ended when he hit the third turn wall for the first caution on the 13th lap. Varin maintained the lead on the restart with Grosso now second.
Strunk advanced to the runner-up spot on the 18th lap restart needed when Mike Maresca spun in the first turn allowing him challenge Varin.
Von Dohren’s night was over early when he jumped the cushion in turn three and hit the wall finally coming to a stop in the second turn for the 22nd lap caution. Varin was still the leader when action resumed, but it was Kressley in pursuit of the leader.
Kressley passed Varin on the 26th lap and second through fifth was now comprised of Varin, Strunk, Sheppard and Gular.
It wasn’t until the 31st lap that Strunk motored into second again and set his sights on Kressley, who was on the move from 20th.
The yellow was flying again for Ryan Lilick on the 38th lap when he stopped along the backstretch. At this time a fuel stop was called for the four cars of Danner, Justin Grim, Keith Hoffman and Dave Dissinger that were running alcohol and could not last the distance. The majority of competitors had switched to gas. On the restart Strunk took the lead, but it was short-lived since Kressley was back on top the following lap around the 1/3-mile oval.
Kressley ran the outside lane while Strunk stuck to the low groove as the battle progressed with each driver determined to be first.
It wasn’t until the 64th lap that Strunk, who started 12th, put the Glenn Hyneman-owned Bicknell chassis No. 126 in the number one position.
Sheppard and Gular passed Kressley for second and third respectively with five laps to go when Kressley fell to fourth.
Strunk continued his pace to chalk up his second win of the season at Grandview with the last one coming August 15, 2020. Second through fifth were Sheppard, Gular, Kressley and Varin. Rounding out the top ten were Duane Howard, who had to get into the race through the Schaeffer Racing Minuteman 20; Ryan Godown, Stewart Friesen coming from last in the 32-car grid following a quick pit stop prior to the start; Reimert and Frank Cozze.
Andy Bachetti, Merkel, Godown, Frank Yankowski, Anthony Perrego and Lilick won the six 12-lap heats for the close to 70 cars that attempted to qualify. Ray Swinehart and Billy Pauch Jr. won the consies to enter the Minuteman 20.
The non-stop Minuteman 20, the last chance to get into the Freedom that qualified five cars was won by Maresca followed by Howard, Max McLaughlin, Keith Hoffman and Ryan Krachun.
The $1,000 to win Kirsten Snyder Web Design and Photography 10-lap Cash Dash went to Godown.
Howard was the recipient of the $500 Hard Charger award from Bobby Gunther and sponsors. Howard went from 29th to sixth for 23 positions.
Next event coming up, now that the very successful Freedom 76 weekend is complete, is the Mods at the Mad House on Saturday, October 17th. Included will be three 20-lap features for Small Block/Big Block Modified racers each paying $2000 to win. A driver winning all three earns a Pioneer Pole Building Triple Sweep Bonus of $2500. And if someone falls short of the three wins and claims two wins there is a PPB Double Sweep Bonus of $500. And for the Sportsman racers there is $1,300 to win their feature. BIG BLOCK/SMALL BLOCK MODIFIED TRIPLE 20’S SWEEP WORTH $8,500 PLUS SPORTSMAN TO CLOSE OUT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY SEASON SATRUDAY, OCTOBER 17
BECHTELSVILLE, PA . . . . . A possible $8,500 payday awaits any modified driver who can pull off a sweep of the Trick or Treat Triple 20’s in the Thunder on the Hill season finale at the Grandview Speedway Saturday night, October 17. Each Modified feature will pay $2,000 to the winner and with thanks to Pioneer Pole Buildings, a $2,500 bonus is posted to any driver who can sweep the three features. If one driver wins two features, PPB will add an additional $500 in bonus money. Each feature offers an attractive payoff with $200 being paid to start. As in past years, this October event will allow both Big Block and 358 Modifieds to compete together in a unique rules package. Also on the program will be the sportsman competing in a series of qualifying events leading up to a $1,300 win 20 lap feature.
On race night, Saturday, October 17, the front gate will open at 4 PM with qualifying getting underway at 6:00 PM. The pit gate will open at 2:30 PM.
Pioneer Pole Buildings is the premier builder of post frame buildings in PA, NJ, DE, MD, WV, VA and NY. Qualifying for the Modifieds will determine the starting field with the top 12 finishers from the heat race events, drawing the top 12 starting positions in the opening feature. The winner of the first and second feature will then draw an invert number of 8, 10 or 12. This makes a sweep of the Pioneer Pole Buildings $2,500 bonus extremely possible.
A special rules package is offered as a ‘treat’ to the region’s competitors, with both American Racer and Hoosier tires allowed for competition, and either Big-Block or Spec Small-Block engines permitted. An event sheet with the complete payoff, rules, and details is available at www.thunderonthehillracingseries.com There is no entry fee but drivers must pre-enter to be eligible for the posted payoff and to draw. For the Saturday, October 17 event, adult admission tickets are $25, Children 6 to 11 are $10, Children 5 and under will be admitted free. The pit fee is $40, and a license is not required.
Advance tickets are available by calling 443 513 4456. Please speak clearly and provide your first and last name and the number of tickets you need. Tickets may be paid for a at 3:30 PM. Advance tickets orders can be processed up to the day before the race. We apologize, but advance tickets will NOT be available on race day. You may pick-up and pay for your tickets on race night at 3:30 PM and enter the grandstands immediately.
